"It's time we had queer media do X!"
Babe, I promise you it already exists. Queer media is already doing that. It came out this year. It came out 20 years ago. The only reason you're not aware of it is that queer media always has been mostly indie and people don't watch enough weird indie stuff.
If you only watch queer media made to appeal to a broadly average viewer, of course you're not going to see comedic gay sex, or drag club workplace comedy, or trans men grappling with their interpersonal relationships changing, or romcoms that reject amatanormativity, or 70+ year old lesbian road trips, or Muslim gay coming of age stories, or sham marriage comedies. But these are all in real films and shows.
What's not happening is average straight people paying attention to these wonderful pieces of media, the best films and shows you've ever seen, because they were not made for straight people. They don't talk to straight people, they don't let straight people in on the community jokes and commentary, and they deliberately do things to make straight people uncomfortable. They're more passionate and more messy.
And what you'll almost always get is found family. So if you love that trope there is an entire genre waiting for you to discover.
Off the top of my head that I've watched this year:
Comedic gay sex: Bros (2022), Spoiler Alert (2022), Smiley (2022).
Drag club workplace comedy: Smiley (2022).
Trans men grappling with their interpersonal relationships changing: Rūrangi (2020), Romeos (2011).
Romcoms that reject amatanormativity: Bros (2022), Chutney Popcorn (1999), Badhai Do (2022).
70+ year old lesbian road trips: Cloudburst (2011).
Muslim gay coming of age stories: Naz & Maalik (2016).
Sham marriage comedies: Badhai Do (2022).

when we talk about lgbqt+ persons not forgetting our history, one thing I wish is that we don't forget to watch indie queer cinema from the late 80s, 90s, early 2000's.
They're not perfect: they'll include problematic dialogue, full of cringe, be clearly made with no budget, have hilariously bad wardrobe, feature 2 or 3 actors who frankly... are not good at acting? They will generally be shockingly amateur.
But why they are important is that they were queer stories made by queer people, for queer people. This is community media. There wasn't money or acclaim and no one who made it expected it to be consumed by a large audience. That wasn't the POINT of it. So if it looks amateurish, that's because it is.
There is just something essentially very different about Go Fish, an indie queer movie about lesbians that was meant to create open conversation between lesbians, and a wide-release hollywood action adventure film with a lesbian character. I'm not saying the 2nd thing is worthless. I'm just saying, community media is ALSO of value and it's an important part of our history. Consuming it can tell us about the kind of conversations, arguments, problematic biases, sterotypes, and grudges that the queer community used to have (and will also reveal how long-standing some internal debates are).
Like, I haven't watched Better Than Chocolate in at least 15 years, but I think it would be interesting to view now and consider their portrayal of an amab trans character who, if I recall correctly, considers herself a lesbian.

(since, u know, small budget and not mainstream. this was pre-streaming media.) Feel free to point out what I missed.

Fave popcorn flavour?
this is the best question i've ever received because popcorn is my favorite snack. this is gonna be an annoyingly long answer.
i LOVE white cheddar (or any cheddar, really), there's a smartfood popcorn flavor that is so spicy and delicious so i love that, i had a latina roommate who put tapatio on her popcorn and that shit's delicious. my mom will sometimes put chaat masala and other desi spices on popcorn and that is sooooo good.
honestly i like anything cheesy and spicy, but there's also that chicago mix you get where it's cheddar and caramel and that shit is sooooooo good. i don't even like sweet popcorn at all but that shit HITS. trader joes has an herb popcorn that is delicious. also i love a regular, buttery popcorn so much.
HONEST TO GOD the only snack i love on the same level as popcorn is plantain chips. especially the really thin lime + chili (or just lime) ones. i fr come from a popcorn and plantain chip family. we also do popped lotus seeds and the mint chutney flavor of that is ELITE.

Crispy Bhindi Popcorn
Delicious and crispy snack made by dipping ladyfinger pieces in pakoda batter. If it is not served as a side dish for lunch and dinner, it can be a perfect snack for evening tea time with a cup of coffee or tea. Crispy Bhindi Popcorn The snack usually contains all the necessary spices and herbs, and goes great with spicy or tangy tomato chutney.
Steamed popcorn or nibbles are a popular bite, especially among the more youthful crowd in larger urban communities. These are usually made with meat, potatoes, or cheddar protein making it a perfect crunchy and delicious chomping nibble. However, it can also be made with other hero ingredients, and okra is one such delicious ingredient that can be used to make okra popcorn bites that are original and creative.
As I have explained in the popcorn or bites recipe, popular ingredients like potatoes and cheese are generally used to make it. Fundamentally, it will help hold the shape and most seriously, it adds flavor and flavor to Southern style. Be that as it may, these options can become tiresome and you may yearn for something better or unique. Ladyfinger should be a standout among the many options considered. In short, bhindi can be cooked quickly and easily by deep frying it. Furthermore, the crispiness with a splash of moisture in it makes it a perfect tempting chomping nibble. Crispy Bhindi Popcorn I usually pair them with a simple tomato sauce or hot and sour sauce. However, any type of mayo or aioli sauce should make it even better.

Exploring the Spice Odyssey: Masala
In the realm of culinary adventures, spices have the remarkable ability to awaken our senses and elevate even the most mundane dishes to culinary masterpieces. Today, we embark on an enchanting journey deep into the world of spices, with a special focus on the tantalising Jhal Muri Masala. But before we delve into the exquisite details of this magical blend, let's take a moment to pay homage to four extraordinary ingredients that form the very foundation of this concoction: Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Lemon Powder, and Tamarind Powder.
Onion Powder: The Flavorful Heartbeat
In the quest to add depth and richness to your culinary creations, onion powder stands as an indispensable ally for any chef. This treasure embodies the concentrated essence of onions, delivering an explosion of flavor without the watery eyes. A mere pinch of onion powder sizzling in a hot pan releases an aromatic symphony, tantalizing your senses and promising a delectable experience. Whether it's a classic tomato sauce, a hearty stew, or a simple omelet, the addition of onion powder can effortlessly transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Tumblr media
Garlic Powder: Nature's Flavor Artillery
Garlic, renowned for its robust and earthy flavor, is a beloved ingredient in global cuisines. Yet, the laborious process of peeling, chopping, and handling fresh garlic can be a deterrent. This is where garlic powder swoops in as a culinary hero, encapsulating the potent essence of garlic in a convenient and mess-free form.
A mere pinch of garlic powder can infuse your dishes with an irresistible umami essence, transcending them from the realm of ordinary to extraordinary. It is the secret ingredient that elevates marinades, enriches the savoriness of roasted vegetables, and turns a simple bowl of popcorn into a gourmet delight. More than just a spice, garlic powder is the flavor artillery that propels any dish to new heights.
Tumblr media
Lemon Powder: The Zesty Revelation
The lively zest and tang of lemon have the power to illuminate even the most lackluster dishes. Lemon powder, a versatile seasoning, captures the lively essence of lemons in a concentrated form. Its tangy and invigorating flavor seamlessly complements both savory and sweet dishes.
A mere pinch of lemon powder can be a culinary game-changer. It infuses salad dressings, marinades, and seafood dishes with a burst of invigorating freshness. In the realm of baking, it transforms cakes, cookies, and muffins, enveloping them with a delightful citrusy aroma. With lemon powder in your spice arsenal, the essence of summer is perpetually at your fingertips, transcending seasonal boundaries.
Tumblr media
Tamarind Powder: A Tangy Delight
Tamarind, with its unique combination of sweetness and tanginess, is a staple in South Asian cuisines. Tamarind powder, derived from the pulpy tamarind fruit, encapsulates the intricate flavor profile of tamarind in a convenient form.
This versatile spice adds an exhilarating twist to your culinary creations. Its tanginess masterfully balances rich and savory flavors, making it the ideal addition to curries, chutneys, and marinades. Tamarind powder also unveils its magic in the creation of refreshing beverages and lends a unique character to barbecue sauces. It's a spice with boundless versatility, capable of transporting your taste buds to distant lands with every delectable bite.
Now, let's harmoniously blend these marvelous ingredients to craft something truly extraordinary - Jhal Muri Masala.
Tumblr media
Jhal Muri Masala: An Explosion of Flavor
Jhal Muri, a beloved street food snack from the bustling streets of Kolkata, India, is an amalgamation of puffed rice, an array of spices, and an assortment of toppings. At the heart of this culinary masterpiece lies Jhal Muri Masala, a harmonious fusion of spices that elevates this humble dish to a gastronomic symphony.
To craft Jhal Muri Masala, combine equal proportions of onion powder, garlic powder, lemon powder, and tamarind powder. This enchanting blend forms the backbone of the zesty, tangy, and spicy flavor profile of Jhal Muri. When intermingled with puffed rice, freshly chopped vegetables, and a drizzle of mustard oil, it gives birth to a flavor explosion that dances on your taste buds.
The Jhal Muri Experience: A Culinary Odyssey
Imagine yourself amidst the vibrant chaos of a Kolkata street corner. The air is filled with the intoxicating aroma of sizzling spices, and street vendors beckon you with their flavorful creations. You take a bite of Jhal Muri, and in an instant, you're transported to a world of flavors. The onion powder introduces a subtle sweetness, the garlic powder layers in depth, the lemon powder offers a lively kick, and the tamarind powder brings forth its signature tanginess. It's a sensory journey like no other.
Tumblr media
Jhal Muri isn't just a snack; it's a transformative experience that encapsulates the essence of street food - bold, flavorful, and unapologetically spicy. It serves as a testament to the remarkable ability of spices to metamorphose the ordinary into the extraordinary.

When harmoniously blended, as in the case of Jhal Muri Masala, these spices create a symphony of flavors capable of transporting you to distant lands and transforming each meal into a memorable adventure.
So, the next time you embark on a culinary journey, remember to embrace these versatile powders. They might very well hold the key to unlocking a world of flavor in your kitchen. The World's 50 Best Foods by CNN Travel #01
Butter Popcorn, United States
Potato Chips, United Kingdom
