I am so glad that lgbtiqa+TV and Cinema has moved on from the drama and turmoil of the 70s and 80s and started to embrace, the joy, happiness, love and happily ever afters. Gives me hope for the future of the lgbtiqa+ community

I just saw Bros, and honestly? As a bi woman, I laughed and nearly cried numerous times throughout the movie. Is it for everyone? Definitely no, I would not imagine my mom enjoying this. But there is a lot of queer commentary that isn’t just gay stuff that’s nice to hear. Billy Eichner knows his stuff and I would rec this to everyone that gets gay jokes and loves romcoms. Some people will cry it goes into stereotypes but it also defends each characters POV. The grand gestures were so sweet and felt a lot more grounded for a happy ending than other romcoms that end with the couple getting married in the last 3 minutes. Please go see this and feel all the feels, please.

"It's time we had queer media do X!"
Babe, I promise you it already exists. Queer media is already doing that. It came out this year. It came out 20 years ago. The only reason you're not aware of it is that queer media always has been mostly indie and people don't watch enough weird indie stuff.
If you only watch queer media made to appeal to a broadly average viewer, of course you're not going to see comedic gay sex, or drag club workplace comedy, or trans men grappling with their interpersonal relationships changing, or romcoms that reject amatanormativity, or 70+ year old lesbian road trips, or Muslim gay coming of age stories, or sham marriage comedies. But these are all in real films and shows.
What's not happening is average straight people paying attention to these wonderful pieces of media, the best films and shows you've ever seen, because they were not made for straight people. They don't talk to straight people, they don't let straight people in on the community jokes and commentary, and they deliberately do things to make straight people uncomfortable. They're more passionate and more messy.
And what you'll almost always get is found family. So if you love that trope there is an entire genre waiting for you to discover.
Off the top of my head that I've watched this year:
Comedic gay sex: Bros (2022), Spoiler Alert (2022), Smiley (2022).
Drag club workplace comedy: Smiley (2022).
Trans men grappling with their interpersonal relationships changing: Rūrangi (2020), Romeos (2011).
Romcoms that reject amatanormativity: Bros (2022), Chutney Popcorn (1999), Badhai Do (2022).
70+ year old lesbian road trips: Cloudburst (2011).
Muslim gay coming of age stories: Naz & Maalik (2016).
Sham marriage comedies: Badhai Do (2022).

|| Bros (2022) || 4/5🌟 || Rom-Com || "Bobby is a neurotic podcast host who's happy to go on Tinder dates and content not to have a serious relationship. That all changes when he meets Aaron, an equally detached lawyer who likes to play the field. Repeatedly drawn to each other, both men begin to show their vulnerable sides as their undeniable attraction turns into something resembling a commitment."
This film was review bombed by homophobes, and while it has positive reviews from actual critics, it didn't gross well in theaters, so I didn't really know what I'd think of this movie but I really enjoyed it. I think there were a lot of important conversations and topics discussed in this film. The main couple was very sweet and very messy 😂 but I did really like this movie!

It’s kinda funny this Billy dude who I never heard of is mad nobody wants see bro. A rom com during month of October.
If it came out Valentine’s Day it might do better but judging from Twitter this guy looks annoying ass hell and he’s main lead? Yeah nobody wants that.
You know what Would do well? Venom? It’s gay and superhero movie. So you hit both target audiences. Deadpool is in same boat and he’s canon pansexual lead
Like it’s done great on October plus it’s marketed as rom com with a literal man eating alien slime.
sorry Bro movie. I rather watch movie of disaster of a man being all domestic and gay with his unhinge monster alien bf than just two gay guys in NYC.
At least for October it’s on brand because monsters lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

Billy on the Street guy has me pinned with his romcom (Bros) and anatomically identified like a rare specimen of moth in a shadowbox collection
very very good film i was expecting to be Kind Of Okay. did not expect to be called out about the intricate rituals or garth brooks
but the montage of forgotten historical gays? it destroyed me. I'm still thinking about it 12 hours later. I wanted this flick to be so-bad-it's-good but no I have to convince people to watch it because I feel so seen and it was somehow still incredibly self-aware
