The day Pixelberry released Choices was the day I downloaded it. So that’s to say I was there at the very beginning. And they almost drove me away about nine months ago. I got sick of the sex books and the toxic LIs and I missed Choices community being a community. I still think VIP screwed that up, but… I never got up the nerve to delete the app. Up until The Nanny Affair 2 (actually now that I’m thinking about it Wolf Bride 🤮 was probably the nail in the coffin, I got board with TNA2 but WB was utterly disgusting) I had read every single book they had. Now I’m back. The Princess Swap brought me back.

Does it have a lot of issues like many of the other new books? Yes. But it’s cheesy and fun and cute! It reminds me of The Royal Romance and Foreign Affairs and A Very Scandalous Engagement, some of my favorite books on the app! It’s a cheesy royalty and I love it. I’m going to try to get back into Choices because I really did enjoy this fandom and I miss it.

However, as an asexual the sexy books are SO HARD because I do not understand the MCs motivations at all and I get so bored. So we’ll see if I actually catch up on the books or not.

Laws of Attraction, Ch. 8 AKA Team Outside the Building

What happened this week:

The team heads off to a retreat for some team building, as a prelude to the very prestigious law conference for the weekend. Seeing as how this book is canonically set in late October (Lydia and Joey’s marriage certificate said the 23rd, and Sadie said the conference is this weekend), Sadie and Gabe have chosen chilly New York violence. That night, grab a moment with your LI before the ever-boisterous Beau interrupts.

Speaking of Beau, at the conference, you’re given the chance to either forgive him for his stunt last week, put him on thin ice, or not forgive him at all. It takes a “kettle, meet pot” situation for him to apologize, and you can help him out for networking points or not. Professional schmoozing impresses everyone.

Surprisingly, PB sets us up with Lina AKA discount F!Robin Flores for another hookup. Is this their way of telling everyone that Robin will not be an LI in TNA2? I guess we’ll have to find out.

The murder case we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived, and we’re defending the prime suspect. This is the big leagues. Celebrity murder cases do not go unnoticed. Luckily, the firm has one of the most brilliant yeehaws to ever enter their swanky New York office. Too bad we’ll have to wait a bit, because this book is taking a short break.

Thoughts:

It has come to my attention that I, in fact, did not complete last week’s chapter review. I only remembered about it because I remembered that the book is taking a mini halfway-hiatus. So here we are. That means this is one of the longest times we’ve gone contentless in a while. From last Wednesday until this Friday, when TNA2 premieres, it’ll have been ten days of a release schedule drier than the personalities of some of PB’s LIs.

I am loving how both LI routes progress at different speeds. Obviously the barriers between Aislinn and MC vs Gabe and MC are different. I think one of the many flaws of PB’s past books *cough Open Heart cough* is their need to advance the romances at the same rate, even though it would be different for each character depending on the relationship. This book does a good job of doing the opposite, and letting each relationship take its natural pace.

For everyone complaining about the slow burn, I think it’s being executed really well. TNA failed at this in the sense that Sam and MC were already down to get naked by Chapter 1 but were cockblocked every time since, but once they eventually fucked then all the allure of the slow burn was lost. They just started fucking anywhere and everywhere. And that was only halfway through the book, so the second half was practically pwp. With Gabe, there is obvious attraction but still a regard for boundaries, which some other boss LIs heavily lack, so the tension builds much stronger.

This group is actually so enjoyable! Very strong personalities that aren’t entirely insufferable (yet).

So far it’s a very good book. Don’t wanna get my expectations up too much, but the bar has been raised from the depths of hell to perhaps Choices purgatory.

Not me butting in but I will agree to disagree with anon about the choices fandom still having their interests. Mostly because I haven’t actually played choices or gone into the play choices tag in so long but when TRR, OPH and even TNA1 were available, the main tag would literally trend the day one of their episodes would come out. But that hasn’t happened anymore? I literally don’t even know if people play the TNA2 since not everyone posts about it and the main tag hasn’t trended (?) since OPH ended I think

I understand if fans now post in the books tag rather than the main tag but it still doesn’t change the fact that choices is not as talked about as before. Maybe if new interesting books come out (like Blades 2) then it could change but who knows

TNA2 is supposed to have 20 chapters like book 1 and think it'll get a book 3 cause the story has been so slow. I just don't see how they can tie all the loose ends in 6 chapters. Plus, there's the fact choices posted a fan asking for TNA3 on their insta story a few weeks ago and PB never did that before 😬

Ugh I really hope not 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m not sure how they’re gonna wrap everything up in 6 chapters either, but this really doesn’t need a book 3 lol. Especially because it’s pretty obvious that they’re already struggling to keep the story going now. I’m just gonna chalk them posting that fan up to them leaning into the TNA hype and not them already planning to continue it because there are a lot of things they’ve been doing with it that they haven’t done for other books. That’s probably just some very wishful thinking on my part though 🥴

I just finished chapter 15 of TNA2 and it almost actually became the Nanny Affair because MC has the choice of kissing Jordan and going almost all the way with him/her but stops because MC still loves Sam and Sam is just waiting at the door

What other Choices books do you like. would you write for them?

Desire and Decorum is tied with OH for my absolute favorite. I love that series so much. I also liked A Very Scandalous Proposal a lot. An underrated gem was A Courtesan of Rome, which doesn't get the love it deserves. I enjoyed other stories, but I don't think they were on par with those mentioned above. But I really did love TRR (hated TRH, haven't even opened TRF). And I enjoyed Queen B and TNA (do not like TNA2 at all.), but they were like junk food. Good, fun, but I know it's not meeting any nutritional requirements. lol Would I write for any of them? Maybe, but no plans on it right now outside of a TNA one time short based on a request for flufftober. I would never say never though.
