As pride month is coming to a close, I want to share a bit about my love of Elton John. I remember being quite young, when I got my grubby hands on my mom’s greatest hits cds from her. In fact, my friend @hailstormcosplay gave me his whole collection for my birthday one year. He’s an absolutely perfectly imperfect man. When my friend @meghan_b12 took me to see Rocketman, she was definitely checking up on me A LOT during the process of the film. There was SO MUCH that he went through, that I could completely understand. He struggled with coming out, in a time where it was still extremely difficult to without losing everything you worked so hard for. He’s battled with addictions, due to traumas... He’s a man who’s been through the wringer and I can relate SO MUCH to that. A lot of times, I struggle to let people in and experience the real ME. I’ve been hurt so many damn times that I just keep up walls. My first serious relationship was very much mentally abusive, bordering on controlling. My parents had a messy divorce. I struggle with a lot of anxiety and depression... For crying out loud, I’m one of the most genderfluid people you’ll have the (hopefully) pleasures of following. This movie came into my life and others at a very good time. To remind us that there’s a lot to be done, but we should be incredibly hopeful about it all. 💖🏳️‍🌈 As someone who’s under that beautiful flag, I needed to share in this fantastical telling of this important man’s life. I can only thank @davidfurnish for finding him 25 years ago and loving him the way he so deserves. And of course, I have to thank the man himself. At the off chance of you seeing this, thank you, @eltonjohn . Thank you for being with me through thick and thin. Thank you for filling me with both happiness as well as sadness.
