Ok so no one asked but I was thinking about musicals and what I’ve been able to see over the years so I made a list. So this has taken over thirty years and most organised by other people and pretty much always in the cheap seats which are never actually that cheap anyway. I do live close enough to a big city and some big local theatres too so I’m a lucky spot and there’s more than I expected. Under the cut for anyone whose vaguely interested.
Professional Productions
Joseph and his amazing technical raincoat when I was ten - first musical I listened to the cassette (I know!!what’s that?) over and over for years I know pretty much every word
Les Miserables good songs - but like it says miserable
The Lion King it’s was ok but too much like the film to be exciting (sorry)
Frozen missed the first 20 minutes cos got the time wrong - the sets and the dress change are magnificent! Not too much like the film
Hairspray one of my favourites
Waitress had no idea what it was about but I loved it
Hamilton the most expensive tickets I’ve ever bought - took my daughter and her friend because they were obsessed
Chicago (on Broadway for 30th birthday trip)
Blood Brothers made me jump at end and then cry
The King and I with Trixi from call the midwife- amazing production. Cried again
9-5 in the underground theatre of the Savoy which was cool
Bugsy Malone a favourite film from my childhood took my kids
Bombay Dreams had to Google the name cos I’d forgotten seen in early 2000s but it was fantastic
The Rocky Horror Picture Show -dressed up for it when I was at uni very fun. Some people left at intermission not sure what they we’re expecting!
Anything goes or possibly Crazy for you- no memory of it really
Miss Saigon seen it twice, once from ‘the gods’ and couldn’t really see anything.
Guys and Dolls- had Ewan MacGregor in it which is why I went
Wicked reasonably good seats for this one excellent
Local amateur productions
Hairspray
Calamity Jane
Shrek - the strangest thing I’ve ever seen
Oklahoma
Little Shop Of Horrors
Singin in the rain was great and it rained on stage in my local theatre
West side story more than once
Local School Productions
The sound of music
West side story
My fair lady
Grease
Wizard of Oz
And finally Would Like to see
Six
Moulin Rouge booked for sept
Book of Morman
Mamma Mia
Everyone’s talking about Jamie

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
All jokes aside these seats weren’t that bad. Especially for a morning extempore purchase. Had a great time and if there were any cheap tickets left for tomorrow I’d probably go again ngl lol (edit, I checked again and there actually is and now I’m ver tempted). I have tickets for the Mamma Mia matinée but my evening is free
Got some audio too which is nice because Earl was great as ever and Anouk had a really nice night vocally, sounded a lot better than yesterday I think

I went to the mamma Mia musical in London 2 years ago and I cried. It was one of my favourites days ever because my brother got us cheap tickets and it were supposed to be bad seats but we wer actually on the side on top so we saw everything from the side including the musicians. Pretty sure I watched the musicians more than the musical and at the end everyone was dancing and singing along
That sounds sooo nice!

The Bucky Trap (Part 5/?)
Summary: James Buchanan Barnes never considered himself as a fatherly figure until Cassie Lang decided to set up him up with you. Nevertheless chaos ensues.
Word Count: 1260
Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader
Characters: Cassie Lang, Bucky Barnes, Scott Lang
Warnings: N/A Baseball language? Minor Tony Stark Slander
A/N: Eep! Loving this positive feedback! Love you all! In the next two chapters things will start to heat up. In the meantime, I will soon be opening up requests with song prompts (hint: I watched Mamma Mia Here We Go Again and my ABBA loving heart got inspired). Also, there will be two series based on two movies that Patrick Dempsey has starred in can you guess which movies?
Tumblr media
On that day you really didn’t know what went through Cassie’s head. What kid uses that much paper to try and draw an ant? You didn’t say anything though, because you figured it was a coping mechanism for her dad going to jail when she was young and her mom married a guy whose job is to look over criminals. So you let Cassie go through all of your construction paper that you had invested your own money in, because American public school system budgets were awful.
So that day you went to Staples, where Bucky and Cassie would conveniently run into you, at the exact time and aisle Vision calculated you would do so. Right as you turned out of the aisle you bumped into none other than Bucky and Cassie.
You were lying to yourself if you said that the man wasn’t charming, he was. He just seemed so endearing, and you were happy that when he walked you to your car he didn’t try to make a move. It would have been too forward at that time. “Oh hi Cassie, Mr. Lang.” you nodded courthouse at the two of them with a smile tracing your lips.
“Hi Miss L/N!” Cassie exclaimed innocently, pushing the smugness that her daddy’s plan was working.
“Hi.” Bucky said softly. Why was he still so starstruck? He swore you just did something to him.
Was he shy? How cute..wait. You regained your composure and pursed your lips, “So, what are you guys doing here?” Really? They were at Staples, they were probably getting school supplies.
“Here? Umm just picking some stuff up.” Bucky said as he grabbed the nearest thing to him...which was a printer.
Your eyebrows raised as he picked up the printer box. “Oh.”
“Yup.”
“Well...I think I better go check out.”
“Wait!” Cassie exclaimed as she bounded after you. “Miss L/N, would you like to go the Giants and Mets game with us? My daddy doesn’t have any friends, and we have an extra ticket.” And she laid it on you: the infamous puppy dog eyes.
You couldn’t help it, but you gave in without hesitation. “Sure.” You couldn’t stop yourself, the girl was too cute. Besides, you needed to get out more, and it wouldn’t hurt to go out with Bucky if Cassie was a buffer.
“Wait what?” Bucky exclaimed as he looked between the two girls. Was it really that easy?
You raised an eyebrow at the man, “Well I guess I won’t go then.”
“Wait what? No, no, I was just surprised that uh...These printers sure are cheap!” Bucky said as he raised the printer box with a smile. It was 250 dollars. Lucky for him, it was going on Tony’s credit card.
“Uh huh.” you said with a smirk as you eyed him. What a strange guy.
“So you’re going?” Cassie said with a smile.
“Sure, your dad and I will exchange number and you guys can pick me up.” you said as you took out your phone to get Bucky’s number.
And so the two of you got each other’s numbers, and departed at the checkout line. You buying more construction paper, and Bucky buying a definitely not cheap printer with a giggling Cassie.
Two days later, Cassie skipped around the Avengers, clad in Giants gear head from toe, with Scott trailing behind her, singing, “When the Giants come to town, it’s Bye-Bye Baby, Every time the chips are down, it’s Bye-Bye Baby, History’s in the making at Candlestick Park,Cheer for the batter, and light the spark!” Scott and Cassie exclaimed the last part with conviction, as they were met by Bucky, looking rather upset. He was wearing a black t-shirt with one of Scott’s hats on. “Did it have to be the Giants?” He grumbled. As he regained his memories back, he caught up to the little things that he liked, like science, innovation, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He hated the Giants then, and he still hated them now, even if they were a California team.
“Did my daughter have to pick out a Dodgers fan to act like her father?” Scott retorted as he put his hands on his hips. He was more shocked by Bucky’s opinions on baseball than this whole situation.
Bucky rolled his eyes at this before looking down at Cassie, “Ready kid?”
Cassie nodded with her toothy grin, “Yup! I’ll see you there Daddy!” And with that Cassie and Bucky walked off to the car while Scott waited for his ride to pick him up.
----
You walked out in a Mets baseball cap, a tank top, and jeans when you got the text that Bucky was outside. In reality, you could care less about baseball, you were just glad that this hat was on sale. Sliding into the front seat you looked back at Cassie and said with a wink, “You ready?”
Cassie nodded, “I brought my glove! It’s signed by my daddy’s really good friend Hunter Pence!” She waved the baseball glove in the air, showing the scribble on it. Scott had run out of ideas to get his daughter a gift, and he was broke, so he took her glove and tried to forge the baseball player’s signature. Sure, Paxton may have given him a lecture about it afterwards, but Cassie loved it.
“Oh! How lovely!” You exclaimed as you shot Bucky a smile, your eyes saying ‘I have no idea who that is’. Which Bucky caught as he shrugged. Yeah, he didn’t know who that was either, but Scott got the kid a signed glove, so that made him look good.
“So, we’re going to tailgate with a couple of people that I know.” Bucky started as he started driving.
“How do you know them?”
Great question. Bucky didn’t even know who he was going to sit with. “Well, they’re friends of Cassie’s uncle.” Nice save, that’ll bite him in the back later.
The entire car ride the two of you were talking, mostly bickering on which routes to take, with some commentary on the weird people New York.
“So, can we both agree that Tony Stark is overrated?” you said as you looked over at him.
Boy did he have some thoughts about Tony. “Yup,” Bucky smirked, “I mean, what’s up with the goatee?”
“Right? Also, is he a playboy or is he serious about Pepper Potts? I mean, she is waaaay too good for him.”
“Agreed. Also, his ego is off the charts.”
“Ugh totally, I can feel it seeping off of every picture I see of him. Like, I get it, you’re Iron Man.”
Bucky chuckled, “You know, you’re very agreeable Miss L/N, except when it comes to directions.”
You scoffed as you turned to look at him with shock in your eyes, “Excuse me? Any other day I would have been right about construction. Navigation systems are rigged.”
“Sure. But this navigation system just outsmarted you.” Bucky said with a smirk as he tapped on the GPS.
“That’s the evil internet lord that will take over and steal all of our jobs, you can’t trust it.”
Bucky didn’t respond to this, giddy as he pulled into the parking lot where Scott and his friends were waving. And then suddenly he realized that he didn’t tell Scott to fill his friends on the situation. So, he might have panicked as he made eye contact with the dark haired woman with Scott as she raised an eyebrow at him and turned to glare at Scott, while an older couple behind them looked rather shocked to see them.
“Stay in here.” he said sharply to you and Cassie before rushing to go meet Scott and company.
“Scott,” the older man hissed as he kept on eye on Bucky, “Why the hell is he here?”

I’ve been thinking about Here We Go Again... (in summary: the more I think about it, the more issues I have with it.)
a lot of the reaction seems to be hyping it up far more than I enjoyed it, and it’s weird, because I do absolutely adore Mamma Mia, so why shouldn’t I? but I think it’s adoring Mamma Mia that makes it so hard to love the sequel.
so here are some reasons I don’t think I’m connecting with it, just as a point of discussion. there are probably more that I’m forgetting. (I don’t want to study. also I’m chatting with Nicole about it and so I’m overthinking it rather than overthinking a passage from Henry V.)
the fact that it was written and directed by a man just irks me. the musical and the first movie are very much by women, primarily for women, and just... it doesn’t sit well.
it does as well feel like Ol was cashing in on the big name - with the amount of liberties taken with canon, it felt almost disrespectful to the first movie. a few blips, I can take; warping so much of it felt ridiculous.
for one, Donna’s mother is supposed to be dead. she’s supposed to be dead, and Catholic, and to have thrown her daughter out when she got pregnant. if Ruby was in the exact same situation as Donna, why did she tell Donna not to bother coming back? had we seen Cher in the flashbacks, we could have had a big number from her earlier on - when you release 80% of her screentime before the movie comes out, you can’t claim you wanted to build up to her appearance - as a flashback with young Donna, maybe a distant-over-time duet with Donna, have her pop up again at the end when they all partied with their younger selves. viciously Catholic Ruby with a fraught relationship with her daughter would have worked, would have made more sense. and then we could have seen Cher acting, rather than Cher playing fictional-Cher.
young Rosie and young Tanya meeting the young dads in passing also absolutely didn’t work for me. Rosie harbouring a crush on Bill for twenty years just felt... weird. Donna in MM1 reveals to Tanya and Rosie that there were two other potential fathers - why did they then need to meet them?
(however, you can pry aromantic bisexual Tanya out of my cold, dead hands.)
on the young fathers - their personalities were fine, but honestly, they could have rolled with the designs from MM1 a little bit. I’m not saying replicate them exactly, but where was Sam’s long hair and seventies facial hair? where was Harry Headbanger’s headbanger aesthetic? Bill seemed alright, but “long blonde hair” is still a thing now. they definitely seemed to want them to be modern-day-attractive, which was depressing.
also, they could have at least mentioned Harry being gay in passing. have the ticket guy hitting on him, and a panicked “no sorry I have a husband”. he doesn’t even need to actually have a partner, just acknowledge that he’s gay. (he’s the only major lead not paired off by the end. Tanya is hinted to hook up with Fernando’s brother. Bill and Rosie are back together. come on, Ol, you wrote and directed Imagine Me And You for fuck’s sake.)
and they could have at least checked the timelines from the first movie. that was just lazy.
young Donna didn’t gel with me as Donna. (I’m not the only person to say this, but it bears repeating.) it’s not really because of the acting, but the writing; I couldn’t connect the Donna we all know to the Donna we were shown. young Tanya and young Rosie were brilliant - but let’s be real, they weren’t given enough to work with to go either way, so while their portrayals were great, we didn’t have enough of them onscreen.
having Donna die, offscreen, a year prior, with no explanation just felt cheap, and like a disservice to the character. apparently Meryl wasn’t available for most of the filming, but that’s not the answer. if Meryl is your main character, you work around her, and you don’t do a character such a massive disservice. but if you have to do that - what happened? was it an accident, an aneurysm, a long-term illness? these things matter, and it’s something that detracted from the movie for me - I kept expecting to find out, but we didn’t.
but really. have the arc with Sophie and Sky all take place in NYC, so that modern Kalokairi isn’t the focus for as much of it. have Donna be in NYC with Sky, marketing the villa or just working on something to do with it, or fuck it she’s just travelling and Sky’s away for a different reason, and have Sophie realise while Donna is away that she’s pregnant - do the parallels that way. she didn’t need to die to be offscreen less!
(spitballing with Nicole: Donna was recording an album. Donna finds out her mother is dying, so flies out to see her, rolls up with Cher in tow at the end. I actually fucking love that idea. but really. ANYTHING.)
seriously, don’t sell me this as the feel-good-movie-of-the-summer when I’m sat in the cinema crying for most of it. My Love, My Life was beautiful but I can’t listen to that or I’ve Been Waiting For You now without having a bit of a crying fit. which is bad, because I LIKE THOSE SONGS. starting a feel-good movie by killing off a main character with no real reason is not a good way to start it.
also they did Kisses of Fire dirty. ABBA has plenty of weird songs that would have worked, why did they have to mangle one I genuinely love for the laughs. and yeah that’s eight separate links to peppy ABBA songs that have genuinely bizarre lyrics or themes.
also they really could have warned us when they released the soundtrack that The Day Before You Came was only ever intended to be album-only. I kept expecting it - it would have been lovely during the credits - and then, well, it’s the song that never came.
and where the fuck was Hasta Manana on the soundtrack. the best sung song in your entire film and you don’t even release a full recording? some of the songs sounded a bit gutsless - When I Kissed The Teacher was so clearly recorded in a studio, and it grated on me when a lot of the songs sounded like that.
but seriously. it wasn’t as happy as it could have been, it wasn’t as in-character for a lot of it as it could have been.
there were things I did like, but as you can tell, there were a lot of things I didn’t. and overall, it was enough to detract from me enjoying the movie. like... it was fun, I’ll watch it again, I’ll buy the DVD (mostly for the special features they’ll probably skimp on), but fuck me the first movie is so much better, and I’m trying to pretend this one isn’t even canon. it’s Sophie having a weird pregnancy fever dream? whatever reason I can think of is better than accepting it, because otherwise it kind of poisons the first movie in hindsight.

This is my overview of 2017 at the Theatre which has been a very special year with plenty of trips to London and even a trip to New York and squeezing in some Broadway shows. All to go along with the trips to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal and the Sunderland Empire to catch the latest UK touring shows.
In 2016 I managed to see 31 shows. In 2017 I managed to see 36 shows! So just beating the 2016 total! You can see a list of all of these shows here. This also included trying to get plenty of deals and really using the day seats to help save money.
January started off with a play and that was The Play That Goes Wrong which had fantastic reviews during its West End run and I could easily see why. Such a hilarious night at the theatre and much needed to start the year off, Read the full review here.
February turned into a pretty busy theatre month with a trip to London. But it started with Wonderland the Musical which is a pretty new musical and a new adventure for Alice heading back to wonderland, I really thought this was outstanding especially with Kerry Ellis in it too! Read the full review here and Stage Door with Kerry Ellis! Then onto a London trip and that included getting Day Seats for Dreamgirls with the incredible Amber Riley in it! A truly fantastic show that really does have so many good musical numbers, Read the full review here and stage door with the Cast! The following day a matinee performance of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical which has quickly became one of my favourites. Then that night it was over to the London Palladium to catch Whoopi Goldberg doing a stand up show, it had been a very long time since she had done that in the UK! Read full review here. I finished off this month with another UK Tour this time The Wedding Singer based on the popular film of the same name, which pretty much is what you would expect, Read full review here.
March included another trip down to the West End to see Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? which I have wanted to see live on stage since first watching the film. With Imelda Staunton taking on the role of Martha I just had to see this, Conleth Hill was outstanding as well! Read the full review here. The next trip was to see Million Dollar Quartet on its UK Tour in Newcastle, looking at the night when legends came together and what just might have gone on, a very interesting show, read the full review here. A repeat of a show I first saw many years ago in the legendary Blood Brothers which you can easily understand why it is still going to this day, read the full review here.
April I had only one show originally booked with two very last minute deals. Since totally loving Les Mis last year I went to see Beyond the Barricade which features previous members of Les Mis cast and it is a fantastic musical theatre concert to check out if you love musicals, read the full review here. A very unknown and new musical was next up with All or Nothing the Small Faces musical which was very impressive and in the same format as Sunny Afternoon, read the full review here. The Woman in Black was next up and it is a very interesting play, really pushing the boundaries and keeping everyone on the edge of their seat from start to finish, read the full review here.
May would see another trip down to London and a rather busy few days at different theatres. Taking in Funny Girl with Sheridan Smith taking the hit West End production on tour, read the full review here. The first show of two in the day in London was 42nd Street which was a very impressive show and even better that I managed to get the tickets from the Today Tix app! I have always been such a huge fan of tap dancing and this is the perfect show for that, read the full review here. Then another trip to see what had become my favourite show of the moment with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, read the full review here.
June for whatever reason ended up with only one show Dirty Dancing, which is pretty much the film just redone on the stage which is a little bit disappointing really as the tickets are rather on the pricey side for this one, read the full review here.
July was probably the most impressive month considering during the New York trip I managed to see three shows! Including some absolute legends on stage at the same time. Started off the trip with War Paint: A New Musical which had none other than Patti LuPone who I have always wanted to see in a show, along with Christine Ebersole and the songs had been specially written just for them, read the full review here. It was then also a fantastic experience to go to the CD launch for the show as well! I had just missed Groundhog Day the Musical when it premiered in London so managed to snap up some rush tickets for this one, a very clever musical considering the day is repeated over and over again but some very impressive songs to help this along, read the full review here. Then moving onto Hello, Dolly! Starring Bette Midler, yes really I had managed to get tickets for this well before we went and it was outstanding. The ticket prices taught me that the West End isn’t quite that bad (yet) but this was more than worth it as the theatre was pretty small the seats weren’t as high up as I expected them to be, read the full review here. To finish this month off I went to see local lad Joe McElderry and his Saturday Night at the Movies Tour, I had these tickets for so long that he actually changed the name of the tour in that time. It really was a good night of songs from the movies and I guess fits in so very well with what this blog is all about, read the full review here.
August ended up having a very last minute London trip to catch the closing night of Beautiful but started off with La Cage Aux Folles which eventually got its UK Tour having cancelled one a few years ago now. It is a show that won’t be for everyone but very impressive and I enjoyed seeing it again after many years, read the full review here.   When heading to London for the last show of Beautiful I just had to squeeze in a matinee as well so I decided on Bat out of Hell the Musical, I have always been a fan of Meatloaf so just had to see this one. It was a very loud and amazing rock show which I was so pleased to get to see, read the full review here. Then the emotional trip to see Beautiful: The Carole King Musical as it closed in the West End, read the full review here. Then a truly spectular event happened in Newcastle at the Theatre Royal when Young Frankenstein the Musical made its UK debut with Mel Brooks present! Read the full review here and Mel Brooks on stage!
September really pushed my obsession with Young Frankenstein the Musical so much that I went back to see it twice more during it’s Newcastle run as it really is such an incredible show, makes you laugh and happy which let’s face it is what everyone wants in life not just from a show! Stage door with the cast, stage door with Lesley Joseph and stage door with Susan Stroman. The next touring show was Flashdance the Musical and lucky last minute cheap tickets as well, considering I had never seen the film before and it wasn’t really my type of thing, read the full review here. The next was a brand new show Son of a Preacher Man and using Dusty Springsteen songs, being a huge fan I was very interested to how this one was going to work, read the full review here. Love Letters a show starring Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw was coming on tour but it was cancelled due to O’Neal having back surgery. The last show this month was the UK Tour of Hairspray the Musical which for some reason I had never actually seen on stage before and it is such a fun show, read the review here.
October would see my final London trip of the year and I actually didn’t have any tickets booked before going, attempting to get day seats for both shows. I was supporting a very local show as the first one this month with Geordie the Musical which had moved to another venue after seeing it at the Customs House a couple of years ago now, read the full review here. Then another show that I had never actually seen on stage before Mamma Mia as I didn’t really think I would be a huge fan of it even though I like the film as a guilty pleasure, read the full review here. Another new show and play Shirley Valentine which saw a truly fantastic performance from Jodie Prenger in this one woman show, read the full review here. My day seat challenge then happened in London as I went to see Aladdin the Musical which has always been one of my favourite Disney films and it really is a magical theatre experience, read the full review here. Obviously I had to go and see Young Frankenstein the Musical again since it settled in the West End and it see if they had changed anything since the previews in Newcastle, read the full review here and stage door with the cast.

November would see only two shows and starting with entertainment legends Des O’Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck on a UK Tour, which included a night of laughs and reminiscing about the older days, read the full review here. Finishing the musicals off for the year just had to be Beautiful: The Carole King Musical as it came to Newcastle on it’s UK Tour.
December is always a pretty slow month now in terms of Pantomimes taking over the Theatres. Plus I couldn’t have my Wednesday before Christmas matinee trip this year (don’t worry I am starting 2018 with plenty of West End Theatre). This meant that I only went to see one production this month being at my local theatre The Customs House for their Pantomime The Lambton Worm, read full review here.
There you have it my very busy 2017 at the Theatre which I managed to fit in a lot of shows and was very obsessed with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Young Frankenstein the Musical, both for different reasons in terms of musicals but the enjoyment of both shows really was something else. I will be starting 2018 in London and taking in a few shows, but other than that I don’t really have many tickets booked yet so will be looking to try and get some last minute deals and seeing which other shows will be announced for UK Tours during 2018!
2017 at the Theatre This is my overview of 2017 at the Theatre which has been a very special year with plenty of trips to London and even a trip to New York and squeezing in some Broadway shows.
