Your eyes are open but you are not sure if you have woken up or if the dream is still continuing. For the morning rays of Sun are enacting a dance drama on the wall opposite your bed. You try to figure out what is happening. It turns out that the kaleidoscopic dance drama on your room's wall is thanks to the Eastman color window glass that is partly inspired by rainbow on the distant mountains and part from the Himalayan flowers that find a way to mesmerize you every time you see them. You want to go back to your dream but you realize time is of the essence, for the dance of the sunrays is on the borrowed time a la Cinderella, with the clock ticking, so you quickly grab your camera, and click like there is no tomorrow. The sun is past his prime yet strong enough to force you to take shelter in the dense shade of the Peepul tree on the banks of Maharana Pratap Sagar aka PongDam Reservoir. There is not a soul for miles to share your solitude, except for the few goats, but then they have there own agenda that ranges from munching on fallen Peepul leaves, checking the strength of there horns by butting into each others heads and generally ignoring you as if you don't matter. May be the goats know a thing or two about matters of what matters and what not. For in this vastness you are nothing but a spec when you look at the Dhauldhars in distance, hell you are nothing even when you try to look at the reservoir in one go. Soon you realise you are nobody even when you compare yourself to the size and might of the Peepul tree that has escaped the rising waters of the Beas that now occupy some 260 KM sq. Soon you realise comparing yourself with the forces of nature is futile for you are not competing with what you see but you are part of what you see and beyond. In the beginning, there were #trees, then came the Havelis, that were built by cutting the trees. But the trees were a patient lot, they waited till the owners of the mansions decided to migrate to bigger towns and at first opportunity, the #jungle decided to strike back & now once again the Trees are taller than the mansions. As the trees spread their roots in the decaying mansions what belonged to the jungle is once again is becoming jungle. This dear reader is the story of the heritage village of #Garli in #Kangra #HimachalPradesh.⠀ The once prosperous village is now just a shadow of its former glory as most of the rich inhabitants have moved out. But the importance of Garli will never be lost for it was here and in the nearby Pragpur village that the business community of Himachal " Suds", find their roots. We cannot see our #reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.,, goes the saying... . .. . But to add to that from a photography point of view, if you want to see and photograph reflections be it a Himalayan lake or in a swimming pool get up early in the morning. Becuase normally early mornings the air is calmer and your chances of getting a reflection are much higher. Thete is something about food that is not tired of travelling 100s of miles to reach your plate. As I sit in courtyard of #ChateauGarli most of my food has travelled less than a KM to reach me. I actually saw the #Okra plants from which my dinner #bhindi was plucked at the family gardens nearby. Today for #lunch I am having #aloomatar kee subzi, with Chapatis that are made to order. The kitchen staff brings them swollen with pride and piping hot steam that escapes as you puncture the roti with your finger 😛. The mysterious temples of Masroor in #Kangra, Himachal Pradesh are one of a kind. Chiseled out of a single rock they have weathered 100s of years of attacks by invaders, rain and even a devastating earthquake. The tulsi plant in the of the courtyard has a blazing red hibiscus offering. My eyes linger on the rustic yet colorful surroundings of Chateau Garli in #heritage village #Garli. The ochre walls are covered by dark slate tiles that are covered by a darker shade of #clouds that are contemplating to shower the village or move to the next mountain valley. Shower it is the rain gods decide and the slate roof, the brass vessels on the ground and even the rusted iron chain once used to tie a buffalo start an impromptu orchestra.
