Rocks back up to the Jedi Council after disappearing for like three months, minimum, on the most terrible roller coaster ride ever with a new saber, new look, less baby, way more trauma round two electric boogaloo, oh and a new Sith and a new fashion, I guess: ‘Sup? How’s the war?

🖊️ for whoever you’re having the most brainworms about right now :) (-justiceforc3po from main)
Send me a “🖊+an OC“ and I will talk about that OC!
Thank you so much! Going to take this open invitation to be a little unwell about the au for Rhyst that is making the brain worms really dance and jiggle lately.
First, a brief touch on Rhyst as he is in 'canon' - my main Jedi Knight, a Shadow, someone who does not enjoy that the Republic and the Order forge him more and more into a warrior and who quickly finds some strain in seeing so first-hand several of the Republic's failures. The mantle of 'hero' hangs heavy and he never asked for it, never sought such high stakes or praise. He struggles in the end to hold fast to his own advice (to use a few lines from my ever beast under the floorboards Ziost fic that I could not top if I tried to summarize him): "...It won’t be easy. But nothing about this ever was.” He offered her a hand. “We would not be Jedi if we did not continue to try. Will you come with us?”
Rhyst tickles my brain because he struggles far more than I think he ever lets on, or even his story lets on. And part of it is his support network; the very people he relies on, that hold him up, also, unfortunately, play an unintentional hand in some of his burdens. Generally, I list these people in his main story as Kira and Savosta. To be clear, they mean perfectly well. In short, though, a lot of the people Rhyst is close to are also people that share in some level of the idolization of him as the Hero of Tython. They've seen his strengths and it's inspired them, so when they speak of that inspiration, Rhyst tends to listen and offer gentle smiles. He has a very difficult time naming that as part of what worries him and wears on him because he knows of their intentions and he values that it helped them, even if he doesn't necessarily believe as they do that all of his deeds are worthy of such praise as tends to be given to him. He is no model of the Jedi, he thinks, but so many have placed similar accolades upon his shoulders.
[This is already getting really long and there's more specific Knight spoilers I'd like to get into, so throwing in a cut here. Spoilers for mainly the transition between Chapters 2 & 3 of the Knight origin and what follows, essentially.]
Rhyst does keep fighting for the Republic and the Jedi for a very long time; he becomes... a bit resigned to this role as a warrior that isn't exactly what he wanted out of his duties, nor does he feel he is their strongest. But it's what they need him to be, where they say he can help, so he dutifully accepts their pleas for aid and their askance of him to fight among the troops. More and more does he find himself suffocated in the armor of a trooper and less and less in the robes so common among the Order - particularly their scholars, diplomats, and learners.
Which is. already a lot. I do not talk about him enough, but he's such an interesting character to me, actually. There's a lot about him that's hidden that I didn't quite notice on first pass either. I do have to thank @hyrohkaah for a lot of that, hehe, essentially my #1 fanclub member, I say, of Rhyst and Savosta, so I got to actually dig through how they tick when talking about them.
So. The AU. Shorthand SithAU, but more an exploration of like... the conceptual premise that what if the Warrior storyline as what happens to the Knight during Vitiate's control of them in Chapter Two [which, brief side note, I cannot remember for the life of me where I first encountered this idea, if it was another post or if it was trigged by just... a series of posts and discussions etc, or if it just... stumbled out of the woods of my brain one day and now I'm finally doing something with it], and then I got running with myself and it grew sort of into its own beast.
If the original events as they play out more canon to the Knight story is what it looks like when Rhyst can reconnect with and rely, somewhat, on his main support network in his crew, his former Masters Maltaf Orathuse and Satia Lerann, then the ~Sith AU is sort of... what happens when that initial reconnect, even, isn't there. Because not that Rhyst is ever given a whole lot of time to really figure himself out in the wake of everything, considering the war on and the urgency of thwarting Vitiate's plans, but... what if less of that.
Because Rhyst does have a lot of uncertainties about his place in the Order, the direction the Republic is taking given all the weapons projects he watched fail, etc... and that's always a very large part of what Vitiate uses against him there.
So, what if, eventually, Vitiate's control stuck long enough, and the Sith re-training to focus on emotions as a source of power, to moreso feed into them and stew with them rather than sit with them to understand and find new takeaways for learning stuck... And with Scourge absent, what more fun a ploy against the Jedi than to turn one of their poster Knights into his own right hand, perhaps even a new Wrath?
After a bit of a kolto soak and some... repairing of the damage from that ill-fated Strike Team visit to the Fortress, of course.
Tumblr media
And that, in short, is the premise which we work off of! As a Sith then, Rhyst settles first as something of a hunting dog, an efficient warrior Vitiate can assign to strike against his enemies, to taunt the Republic in an idle gesture to support the Empire's war - except his latest project is and isn't ever particularly recognized as part of the Empire's forces, given Vitiate's secrecy [and, as we learn later, his interest in other projects]. Ultimately, Rhyst becomes the keeper of Vitiate's secrets - a guardian of artifacts and ritual knowledge as well as an assassin for the Emperor in seclusion.
Kira takes over the hunt for the rest of the Jedi Strike Team and a way to stop Vitiate's plans with Lord Scourge in the meantime, but, eventually, the one to strike at Vitiate is still Rhyst - with Caolan!!! Who is. a whole other ramble, blorbo from friend's brain, etc etc belonging to enabler @hyrohkaah again and simply I'm in love w/Caolan but. but. that's liable to get me off topic. But, in an attempt to keep it short, Caolan has similar 'Vitiate's project a little off the leash and slightly to the left' syndrome and they become 'do not separate' about it.
The interlude years then are spent with Caolan on the hunt for lingering specters of Vitiate's influence in the galaxy. Rhyst is... unclaimed by either major power in the aftermath. While his style is not entirely Sith, it definitely more heavily and openly relies upon dark side tendencies somewhat informed by his previous Jedi training. He'd self-identify as a Dark Side user, but not particularly affiliated with the Sith. He's still too much of an ex-Jedi to be claimed by the Empire and, of course, the suspicion that he struck at their former Emperor does little to win him potential favor (not that he seeks it) on that side of the metaphorical galactic fence.
And then his reasons for avoiding return to the Jedi Order are somewhat two-fold; Rhyst is still driven deeply by a sense of duty. Vitiate became so certain of his control over him - and, eventually, Rhyst's genuine give to servitude to this master - that he's one of the few in the galaxy to know some of the former Emperor's trickier secrets. He knows just enough to be dangerous - even if only as a nuisance in the grand scheme of matters (to speak to the retreat to Wild Space and Zakuul), enough to make Vitiate seek his other avenues as Valkorian. That sense of duty drives him to act on this knowledge. Returning to the Jedi would delay this, he thinks. They would offer something like redemption and Rhyst has... again, essentially, resigned himself to his fate, his new purpose, this new flavor of his life. He is not exactly happy with what he has become, but it is... serviceable. And eventually accepting that with Caolan, helping each other through their own struggles with Vitiate's mark upon their lives, is... its own kind of freedom. It's their truth. It's honest to who they are and who they aim to be. It... accepts what was outside of their control and is permission to continue to be - that survival has no inherent moral value. And Rhyst will not tolerate either of them to be chained to dispassionate leaders again - not Vitiate as a manipulator and crafter of tools, and not the Jedi Council and Republic Senate as even well-meaning commanders of change and bickering definitions of "justice." He cannot abide by handing them over to shackles - literal or figurative - when they have a duty to stop Vitiate in his entirety to complete.
So, in a way... he comes to a lot more of an honest conclusion of self in this whole ordeal. In fighting alongside Caolan for their own directives, without that constant need to perform to a mold or an image that weighs upon them in the Jedi, Rhyst has a far easier time determining what's important to him and carving out those boundaries of what he is and isn't fighting for, what's important to him.
Which, of course, I can't leave well enough alone, so... naturally, when Lana Beniko and Theron Shan team up to investigate the Revanites and turn to investigating Imperial and Republic ghost stories alike about potentially a fallen Jedi or rogue Sith agents when they're short on allies among their own people... the narrative just has to catch back up to them and wrest away some of that little sliver of control over their own lives, and Rhyst may just have to reckon with both sides' expectations of him again after all. :3

what type of villain are you?
your honor, i do love a good uquiz diagnosing the diseases and problems of my fictional characters and also i might be slightly procrastinating a final paper. saw this one from @sasslett and simply could not resist :3 quiz link! for those who'd like.
swtor edition first!
Tumblr media
tyr deckard - then let me be evil
You never wanted to hurt anyone, but the world never gave you a choice. You did the best you could with what you had, but every innocent mistake you made was held against you when it counted, every crossroads led you down the wrong path no matter which way you went. No matter what you did, the odds were stacked against you. It wasn't fair, and you are sick and tired of being told what a monster you are for things out of your control. Well, fine. They want a monster? YOU'LL GIVE THEM A MONSTER!
Tumblr media
alucren ellery - the betrayer
You like to do things up close and personal. As personal as you can get. You are an excellent actor, and you do adore putting on a smile knowing your worst enemy, the one you hate the most, doesn't suspect a thing when they tell you their deepest secrets. Your only motivation is revenge, and revenge you shall get. Perhaps you loved them once, long ago, but any fondness for your target you once felt has long since warped and twisted into perverse obsession, laced with malice and venom and seething hatred. Good or evil does not matter to you. All that matters is they get what they deserve.
Tumblr media
leo ashold - the coward
You didn't have another choice, honest! Have these people SEEN what the heroes are up against? It'd end you in an instant, whether that be a lovecraftian abomination with a hold on your soul, a rampaging monster that's destroying more than a hurricane and an earthquake could in one fell swoop, a shadow organization that has tabs on everyone you love and will end them in an instant, or just a particularly grumpy boss that might yell at you if you don't fall in with his excessively tyrannical methods, you can't go risking your neck for the poor saps that think they can stop it. No way, you're staying on the bad guy side, where it's SAFE.
Tumblr media
rhyst delavast - for the greater good
Perhaps you do not believe what you are doing can truly be classified as evil. Perhaps some people will be hurt from the immediate consequences of your actions, but what the masses fail to see is the immense good that will come of your plans. Maybe you act in the name of science, or for your people who have fallen on great tragedy. Maybe you see cracks in a failing system and want to uproot it through chaotic, destructive means to avoid greater tragedy down the line. Maybe you're just in with a bad crowd, but you can't leave them, no matter how unsavory their intentions, because they're your only ticket to your ultimate goals. No matter what, your goals are noble, and you take no joy in wreaking havoc or hurting those in your way, but the evils you partake in are necessary. If you need to play the bad guy to ensure a better future, then you are willing to play that part.
Tumblr media
savosta - no moral compass
You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

Send me a “🖊+an OC“ and I will talk about that OC!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tag your polyamorous ocs just got me really going about Rhyst & Savosta again - two beans who have a surprising amount of lore in my head for how little I've actually talked or written about them.
SO. Kira x Rhyst & Savosta is absolutely a thing that transpires by their total reunion post-KOTXX. And I do think, at least at the moment, that that's where this polycule becomes an official thing, even though these three are running in each other's circles far earlier.
Short version, Rhyst & Savosta have been running into each other circa about Ilum? They meet tackling Republic and Imperial objectives, respectively, and decide cooperation benefits them both. Rhyst with Kira and Savosta with Quinn take on Darth Serevin, steal the stealth fighter, and eventually confront Malgus together. Rhyst and Savosta eventually go from tepid enemies based on circumstance to allies and then friends by the era of the Coalition forces and vow to stop Vitiate - together because the old bastard has taken enough from them (and the galaxy, reminds Rhyst).
Kira and Rhyst develop something of a relationship during the class story that's... rather experimental. Kira has a bit more experience in the matter than Rhyst and is the more outgoing of the two; they bond first as friends and when the suggestion comes up that maybe they try something else.., Rhyst trusts her enough to take the lead and give it a go. Given the whole... tail end of the Knight storyline and the strain that puts on Rhyst, he does ask to sort of... take it slow a while. Rhyst needs a lot more time to put himself back together and reorient his priorities and his beliefs, so they don't end up married - and, fun fact, I had to restart that cutscene a couple times because left to his own devices, Rhyst would not be the one to ask. He wasn't going to just take the hint, not at that time, at least. But I wanted them to get the romance reunion, so here we are.
Tumblr media
(The little bow, however, is incredibly fitting and supremely endearing.)
SO. Now that we have the individual elements at least on the board, how do they all end up in a consensual cuddle pile?
Largely because Kira and Savosta are both on the same page about how important Rhyst is to them.
Individually, Savosta has no relationship experience - and generally little interest in changing that. He'd not identify by any of the involved labels, but he's a sex-neutral flavor of the asexual spectrum and just... disinterested, generally speaking, in both sexual and romantic relationships.
That said, Rhyst comes to mean quite a lot to him and they grow very close. Rhyst expresses some interest that Savosta is agreeable to exploring and... the rest was sort of history for them. They never add any new definitions to their relationship; they are very close friends and they don't foresee anything changing that.
Savosta is ultimately the one by his side through the events of KOTXX and their relationship continues in this manner throughout that period. When Kira returns, Savosta's expectations of their relationship don't really change. It's whatever Rhyst wants - he's just been happy to help his friend. So, when Rhyst suggests discussing it as a group, Savosta's on board. And I imagine Kira knew something of how close the two were previously, so it's not exactly a surprise when they disclose the other elements of their relationship. Kira and Rhyst still identify as partners and the trio can often be found sandwiched together on a couch with Rhyst sprawled between them. Kira and Savosta will occasionally end up beside each other, but Savosta never ends up in the middle of their heaps because it'd be a bit of a sensory overload for him - too much touching.
Kira and Savosta's relationship within the dynamic is one of friendship and keeping their eyes on Rhyst, trying to do what they can to balance what the galaxy has over-demanded of him. Rhyst has a terrible time saying no when it comes to his duties and is, unfortunately, rather good at masking just how self-sacrificing he can be because of that guard of duty and service. Savosta and Kira also both have their weaknesses in that each of them have ways they sort of idolize Rhyst and they can occasionally accidentally end up talking over Rhyst's own concerns in eagerness to assuage any fears or worries they think he might have. But that's... sort of it's own entire ramble to get into about Rhyst's complicated relationship with being a Jedi after having his faith in the Republic somewhat strained after the repeated failures of the various weapons projects of chapter 1 and the Council's decision to move forward with the strike team efforts despite voiced concerns. It's a whole... deal about the unwavering faith people tend to place on Rhyst without necessarily verifying how he's actually doing beneath the image of all the accolades they've awarded him.
Anyway. As far as their polycule goes, it's generally full of cuddle piles and Kira playing with Rhyst's hair while he falls asleep against Savosta. They're two of the people Rhyst trusts most and that have been there for him through some of his toughest times and each of them has their valuable insights for his support - Kira tends to bring a lightness to him he sometimes loses track of and Savosta has strong convictions and inspiring dedication. Rhyst, for his part, is their eager to please Labrador puppy who's maybe just a bit too good for this world, but he's earnestly trying.

once you're stripped clean, what's at your core?
the return of the beloved uquiz. tagged by @fatewalker-phoenix. i think i did this one ages ago for some swtor blorbos, so let's diagnose some of the latest editions of them xD
i love when uquiz comes into my house and shoots my ocs point blank in the face about their traits and emotions alknfdlasdfnsdf
uquiz link <3 consider that an open invitation to show me your blorbos' diagnoses if you want to play along 👀
Tumblr media
shay delacroix - silent admission.
in tarot, the fool is numbered 0 – the number of unlimited potential. as the protagonist, he is ever present and therefore needs no number as well as no introduction. the world revolves around you in ways that i can't begin to describe, though you'd shrug it off if i were to begin to explain. i need you to know that time is running out. if you want to get this done, you need to start now. sloth is your greatest enemy in this world, and you can only run so far from the opposition when you start with such a disadvantage. keep your head high, yeah? the kid you were is still in there somewhere. you need to show him that it was worth it.
Tumblr media
rhyst delavast - cauterizing rage
the house has burned around you, and you’re the only one left standing. is it gratifying to be the survivor? fear and anger are weapons in your capable hands, used only to serve your agenda of fighting back when deemed necessary. you're a powerful person, built from the ashes of your despair and your family's mistakes. with time, you'll bloom into someone softer, like the full blossoms that grow each spring and wither away with the leaves in fall. they won't disappear if you take your eyes off of them. you're enough.
Tumblr media
alucren ellery - fractured glass
no amount of orchestrated class is ever going to hide the fact that you’re doomed to be alone. you’re a puppet, you’re a weapon, but most importantly? you’re a fraud. your facade isn’t malicious, but that doesn’t change a thing. everything in your life is in your control now, and you chose to let yourself become stiff and distant. you’re guilty of everything you blame yourself for, and your misfortune is the fault of nobody but yourself. your selfish nature forges you into a man-made monster, so quick to blame and so desperate to escape consequence. i hope that you can become someone you’re proud of soon.
Tumblr media
savosta - resounding truth
you have a goal in mind, and others brush it off right away… why does everyone always tell you to follow your dreams when it's actually their dreams that they want you to follow? your memory is weak, and your conviction is even weaker on days when you're reminded of how alone you really are. it's hard to go on without someone pushing you forward… is this what life is? a cycle of monotony, fueled only by the desire not to trouble anyone too much with your passing? it would be nice to have something, or someone, to spur you on. i hope you find them.

WIP Guessing Game: Explosion
Send me a word and if it's in one of my WIPs, I'll post the sentence or line it appears in!
“Commander.” Savosta’s jaw set harshly as the holo flickered into life, almost immediately rocked by an explosion in the background.
“Lord Wrath.” The former Cipher Nine appeared out of the static with a grim frown already set across his lips and stern lines drawn across his features, armed and apparently in the middle of duty.
Ziost? Ziost. From the still unnamed (properly) Ziost fic.

tragic greek figures + your ocs
Thank you for reminding me I wanted to do this one, @captainderyn! Uquiz, my beloved, diagnose my ocs, lmaoooo.
I have... honestly lost track of who has and hasn’t done this, so if you haven’t, I’m tagging you. I’m tagging you, I’m tagging you, I’m taggi-
(Dot, it’d help if you’d link the quiz)
Tyr Deckard - Patroclus
Tumblr media
clever patroclus, beloved patroclus, poor patroclus: you do fall into madness, nor vanity, nor hubris. not, that is, for your own sake. love for that golden-haired man, sorrow for your countrymen; it is for his name that you don his armor, and for the dying greeks that you ride into battle. every piece of you is willingly given away, even if after you are gone there are wicked things done in your name.
Savosta - Icarus
Tumblr media
what is there to be said of icarus? you were warned, yet you persisted, imprudently. but what of your first taste of liberation? the exhilaration that follows the first ray of the sun to touch you as you are, as a free man, makes you drunk on joy. we all know the foolish things that drunken people are capable of. was the fall as thrilling as the flight?
Lensan Ryaldar - Arachne
Tumblr media
adept arachne, the things which you craft are born from years of careful practice, focused effort, and a drop of divine inspiration. your finished product shows the skills which you have honed over your lifetime, so take pride in that, but don’t proclaim yourself a peerless artisan, and, by the gods, show humility when you’ve been beaten.
Rhystyl Delavast - Achilles
Tumblr media
best of the greeks, eager for honor, and quick to rage: you could easily live in content and easy until you're gray-haired, but glory and fame call for you just beyond the horizon. you are not prone to self-reflection and trip into the same pits of wrath at bruised pride over and over. are you truly ready to sacrifice everything so that your name will be immortalized? is your fury what you want to be remembered for?

wip wednesday
Thank you for the tag @autisticbones!!! Half of this week has fallen apart, lmao, so I will always be delighted to turn to blorbos instead.
Dusts off one I almost forgot I started rrr!!!! More Rhyst & Savosta and their no good time Sith Emperor battles, lol! This one is framed around the events of KOTFE Chapter 2.
A little frazzled this week, so gonna leave this as an open tag this week. I don’t believe I have any warnings for this piece, either. Enjoy!!! (The boys are not, akdnflsdf, F’s in the chat for them, lol)
“Rhyst!”
None of this is real. Rhystyl struggled to pull in a steady breath and closed his eyes tighter. There is no emotion. There is peace.
“Rhystyl?!”
If none of it was real, why did the smoke burn his lungs? Or was that the hibernation sickness? Why did dust and ash cling to his knees, crumble under and cling to his fingertips? His grip tightened around the hilt of his saber.
The blade still hummed when ignited, full of life, still hefted its weight when he’d twisted it in his hand, desperately dodging and weaving between the singing flares of blaster fire.
Kira, Doc, T7, Rusk, even Scourge… They’d all been so close, if he could only clear the next pack, the next rise in this barren hellscape-
“Rhyst?!” Savosta crashed to the ground beside him, boots skidding in the gravelly rubble of…
Where, when were they?
Rhyst sucked in a breath as Savosta’s hands collided with his shoulders, dragging his eyes up from the ground. “Look at me, Rhyst. Look at me!” Dusted pale blue hands hurriedly framed his face, skidding across skin before his fingers twisted faintly in his hair.
“Rhyst.” Savosta panted. “Focus.” This hell was liable to shift around them at any moment, but it was all just a game.
It had to be. After what happened on Ziost, he’d believe almost anything was within Vitiate’s reach.
“Savosta…” Spoken like the first gasp of air when the drowning waves broke to the air of the horizon. The world still seemed to waver around them, but the Chiss stood resilient against the utter devastation unfurling in every direction.
Savosta cracked half a smile. “Still with me then? Good.” His hands squeezed around his shoulders. “C’mon. We have to keep moving.”
At the very least, he’d found moving was better for dispelling the fog around these spectres and dreams. He’d come to hesitate against charging headlong into the fray with saber in hand, especially when Vitiate was involved, but he could find no other way forward.
Lingering only gave the bastard more ammunition. He’d cover whatever ground, fight as many battles, cross as many stars as it took to keep this promise.
Whatever happened, they were going to face their enemy together.
He gripped Rhyst’s arm, pulling the Jedi to his feet and dusting his sleeves. Rhyst’s grip slacked around his saber, so Savosta closed a hand over his, pressing hand and hilt against his chest. “Stay with me,” he repeated.
Rhyst pulled in another breath and closed his eyes for a moment before he nodded.
“Okay.” Savosta let go and drew his saber, the burst of red-orange the only glowering life in the decaying corpse of what might have been, what may yet be. Rhyst ignited his blades behind him.
They could not be over-cautious with Vitiate - Valkorian. Whatever they stepped into may have taken root from their own minds, but the puppetmaster’s hand was ever-present, subtly orchestrating the strings of the curtains.
“Coruscant…” The Jedi’s broken voice reflected the cracked world around them, crumbling under the echoes of bombardment.
It was happening now. It was already too late.
Savosta fisted a hand into his comrade’s sleeve. “Do not stop.” His grip laxed when Rhyst shook his head, though it did little to conceal the anguished glimmer in his eyes. Rhyst briefly brushed a hand across his cheek, dispelling a few escaped tears.
“It’s not your fault.” Savosta ducked his head as his teeth caught briefly against the inside of his lip. “Come.” He tugged the Jedi’s hand again. There was nothing they could do here.
Maybe even the stars had forgotten just how far they were from these streets. And Dromund Kaas was only further.
