🌟Paul Tully's 24-year sobriety journey. He describes how he was at a crossroads, doing dead-end jobs and raising a family, which drove him to join the military. Despite having to reduce over 100 pounds to qualify, he was able to join the military. After leaving the military, he experienced obstacles owing to his criminal record, which hampered his career chances until he met a caring judge who wiped his record and recognized his devotion to the country. 🛤️
🎭After his record was expunged, Paul opted to use his GI Bill benefits to attend Cerritos Community College. During this period, he discovered his love of performing via participation in theater. Despite starting at the age of 30, he had a strong connection to acting, indicating that he had finally found what he genuinely liked. He highlights the transforming power of second chances and the necessity of discovering one's passion, even if it happens later in life. ✨
🌱Paul's narrative explores themes of endurance, atonement, and personal satisfaction. Despite failures and hurdles, such as addiction and legal issues, he persevered and eventually discovered his purpose in acting. His path exemplifies how facing adversity can lead to personal growth and understanding of one's true purpose.💪
🌟Paul Tully's path from addiction to recovery, military service to expungement, and dead-end professions to realizing his passion for acting is a moving story of change and self-discovery. His narrative demonstrates the value of second chances, the significance of helpful personalities like sympathetic judges, and the ability of individuals to achieve fulfillment and purpose later in life despite tremendous hurdles. 👏

"No ill will meant towards anyone who liked that moment, but whenever I hear the words "Cerritos strong" in season four of Lower Decks, I cringe from second-hand embarrassment and hope it doesn't become a recurring thing in season five.😬"

This was an experiment mixing still images with animated ones. Not sure if it turned out the way I hoped. I'll experiment more with other scenes in the future, perhaps.

Fuckin' Star Trek Rant
Tumblr media
Transcript: This was in response to talking about a Lower Decks episode where a crew member on the Cerritos wore a hijab and about how religious representation is important and would be a founding principal of the Federation.
Apparently... muslims shouldn't be allowed in the future.
[Screenshot of another tweet from an anonymized user reading: "No, consistent world building matters more."]
Yes... I am aware of the ✨CANNON✨of Star Trek... but I do not fucking care.
It's important to show representation of people who are alive RIGHT NOW in a future that is painted as good and desirable.
By saying muslims shouldn't be in Trek because CANNON... that's fucked up.
By saying "Muslims shouldn't be in Trek because cannon!!" or because "Roddenberry hated religion!"...
...you're saying muslims and others who show their faith outwardly in such ways are not welcome in your fantasy playground, or in your potential view of the future.
This is the same bullshit as "YOU CAN'T HAVE BLACK ELVES OR DWARVES IN LORD OF THE RINGS!!!"
You're saying your fantasy is a world without non-white people.
Shut the fuck up. Sit the fuck down. Let people be in things. Stop. Fucking. Gatekeeping.
Full disclosure: I am not a religious person and I have a virulent repulsion of religiosity--because I have seen and experienced too much hypocrisy and harm from those who espouse strong faith.
PEOPLE WHO HAVE FAITH SHOULD STILL BE WELCOME IN THE FUTURE.

Pretty Polly Posey from Community Cat Advocates and Rescue in El Cerrito, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Click here for a link to Community Cat Advocates and Rescue’s main website.
Pretty Polly Posey is a stunning medium to long hair polydactyl tortoiseshell. She is unique and special in every way. She loves her people and shows her affection with small chatty noises and a strong purr. She can be easily enticed with a yummy treat. Polly gets along with polite dogs and cats. She is very tolerant of being handled. Polly would be very happy as an only cat or becoming part of a multi pet family. More than anything she wants a home and people of her own to shower with love and appreciation.

The season (series?) Finale of Lower Decks was, like almost every other one, very ok compared to the average episode. It's not bad, but the writers are. Less than skilled. At mixing the comedic and serious moments of the show, and that causes a lot of tension to get lost. Ooooh, we need a ship so we can DISOBEY THE ORDERS OF THOSE STUFFED SHIRTS AND DO THE RIGHT THING, fine, it's cliche as hell and honestly has its own problematic elements but sure. Now we're going to do a DUEL and BETTING OUR SHIP to get theres. UH OH, I BET YOU DIDNT EXPECT WE WERE GONNA MAKE THE MILQUETOAST BIRD GUY FIGHT? OOHH, WE'RE SO CLEVER AND WACKY.
C'mon, this is never half as funny as you pretend it is AND he's going to lose anyways so you can an extra layer of drama. Just do the bit where she has to agree to leave star fleet to save her friend and let's get moving.
Honestly felt the stuff with the friend would've more interesting to play straight. Like, a major part of Star Trek is that despite being a glorious luxury space communism they also have military hierarchy with the sort of boot-licking bullshit that often entails and exploring that more would've been interesting!
But that a) would require having an entire extra episode of arguments and counterarguments, which in 10 episode season means someone's baby gets cut (and as much I disliked some b-plots I can respect that they were loved)
b) would thematically require the Cerritos to have bad or at least sometimes grating management, and that's something the shows dropped in favor of "Cerritos Strong" where most everyone gets along. And that's good for most episodes because episodes about having to scrape and respect some jerk higher on the food chain than aren't as good (see the hazing subplot). It does the Lower Decks idea seems sorta lost, in a way, and especially cuts out ideas like I'm suggesting here.
Still, though, the idea of putting together a fleet of like-minded lower deckers to produce a less hierarchical, or at least less stand-at-attention and yes-sir-no-sir, fleet, is much riper for the sort of deep philosophical discussions that are Star Trek at its best. Him just being butthurt about getting kicked out for killing someone through overconfidence and then being conveniently competent enough to shut down ship weapons but charismatic enough to sell crews on doing a coup with 100% rate is less interesting. His grand plan flops in 5 minutes and it's unclear what he even imagined doing, really.
The show is a lot better when it has a proper theme it wants to explore, but the finales sorta gets swallowed in having Big Epic Movie-like Moments that they feel sorta empty in the same way the Crisis Point holodeck adventures were.

🚨 ATTENTION ALL TREKKIES! 🚨
Lower Decks needs your help!
After the unjustified cancellation of Lower Decks many people are outraged, even some of the cast and crew want the show back.
So what can we do to try and save Lower Decks? And it turns out quite a lot actually.
Tumblr media
1. Write a letter - there have been some letter writing but if you write at the least one letter you’re already helping. Of course the more letters you write the better. DO NOT be rude or threatening otherwise this won’t be taken seriously and will be disregarded, be polite and formal. Here are a few mail addresses:
Jeff Grossman
Director of Programming
CBS Interactive US
235 Second Street
San Francisco, CA 94105
Tom Ryan
President & CEO Streaming Paramount Global
1515 Broadway
New York NY 10036
Brian Robbins
Paramount+
1515 Broadway
New York
NY 10036
USA
2. Sign a petition - this one might not be as effective as letter writing but it can definitely let paramount see how many people signed and how much people want it back.
3. Rewatch the show and encourage others to do the same - this will help paramount see how many people still want to watch and see more and want more. Or you could go the opposite way and cancel your subscription to Paramount+ and putting Lower Decks as the reason
4. Buy merchandise - this will help paramount know that people still want to invest in the show.
5. Buy the new season 4 Blu-ray Disc - this will help paramount see that season 4 was good and the series should be renewed for more seasons.
6. And last but not least, spread the word anyway you can. If you don’t do any of these things at the very least tell others. We can save Lower Decks but only if we work together

I’m not going to lie, I really disliked the last episode (3.09) of lower decks.  I have a lot of reasons but the biggest is that I can’t imagine Mariner ever going back to the Cerritos.
                                      Lot more under the cut
Lower Decks, because it only have 10 eps a season has a problem of getting back to to the status quo very quickly, Boimler leaves at the end of season 1 he’s back by the 2nd episode of season 2.  Freeman is arrested in the season 2 finale, she’s exonerated by the end of the 1st episode due to offscreen stuff.  I don’t mind the offscreen stuff, for the premier of season 3, but it’s still resolved quickly on what was supposed to be a big cliffhanger.
I only point this out because Mariner is going to be back on the Cerritos early season 4 if not before then. The only possible way I could see it not going that way, is if she rejoins starfleet, but joins a new ship and Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford follow her, leaving the Cerritos behind for the rest of the series.  There is no show without Mariner, she’s one of the main characters, yes, but out of the 4 main characters, she the main protagonist.  You can like one of the other 3 more, but I don’t think you can argue that out of the 4 of them Mariner is the main character.
I know it sounds dumb getting upset about something that hasn’t even happened yet, and I’m not going to argue.  But I can’t see Mariner not on the Cerritos next season and at the same time there is nothing that the season finale could show me that would make me feel like the Cerritos crew deserves her in any way.  I don’t care if each member of the crew personally apologizes and offers to literally kiss her ass for how they treated her, I can’t imagine a way the writers could make me feel like it’s enough on Mariner’s behalf.
After 3 seasons of closing herself off she finally started to open up, she got closer to her mom for the first time ever, she made friends who love her for who she is, she even got a girlfriend.  Then because of a rumor, not even proof her mother kicks her off the ship she calls home, every member of the crew save for her friends blames her for apparently badmouthing them, and her girlfriend doesn’t even give her the time to explain before breaking her heart.  And the it turns out they did all that for no reason because she’s not the one who badmouthed the crew and ship, she’s the only one who spoke warmly about them all, calling them her found family.  I can’t think of a reason for Mariner to ever go back to the Cerritos, maybe to save it or to try and recruit Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford, but not to actually be on it again.  Yeah Freeman realized she fucked up by the end, but it still happened and she only has herself to blame.
Like I said, I realize that it’s dumb to get upset for season 4 that hasn’t even been created yet, but I can’t help it.  This bothers me and I need to get it off my chest.  I have plenty of other reasons for disliking the episode, I think 3.09 is the episode I hate the most.  I think it was bad writing overall, and a bunch of other reasons, but I’m not going to get into it.  I still love Lower Decks, it’s a good show and while I dislike this episode and the peanut hamper episode, I think the whole season over all was strong and I loved it.  I just needed to get this off my chest before the finale so I can go in as neutral as possible.  Anyone have any opinions themselves, you’re welcome to talk to me about it even if you disagree as long as we can be civil to each other.

Road Trip 2k24: Part 3: Roswell - part 3
Tumblr media
Roswell, New Mexico, once you look past the UFO stuff, is a pretty charming little city.
Tumblr media
It's easy to walk around the downtown area, it's pretty friendly, and overall I had a great time visiting.
One of the funniest things about the town is there are alien gray statues everywhere, and if you're a fan of the TV series Stargate (or the 1994 made for TV movie Roswell) you'll recognize the design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm told the guy who designed the alien for the 1994 movie recycled the design for Stargate, but it's just funny to see Supreme Commander Thor taking a nap on a bench in front of a Mexican restaurant. Speaking of which
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are tons of them in Roswell and they are all fantastic! Shout out to Cerritos. It was next door to my motel and the food was delicious!
Tumblr media
If you're in town I can also recommend Stellar Coffee. It's got a nice, relaxed atmosphere and great drinks.
Tumblr media
Overall I'd say if you have a strong interest in UFOs or aliens it's worth the visit.

Cammie's Story, as told to me by her caretaker's granddaughter. 28 February 2008
So Cammie came from Brentwood, CA… just outside of Oakley/ Antioch. My grandmother wasn't necessarily warm and fuzzy to anything, although now seeing some early pictures of her, she did have cats in her life.
Before my grandfather died (about 20yrs ago) they lived in Bethel Island and had a couple of cats, but after he passed the only thing in her life she truly cared about was her son (my father)
I say this not to be mean about my grandmother. She was strong willed and extremely independent and until her last day remained that way, with the exception of little Cammie.
About 5 years ago she mentioned a cat that came around her place.. She mentioned it since she knew I loved /did a lot of work w/cats.. When I asked her what the cats name was she said Stupid.. Full name was “Come here stupid”. Again I don't think this was to be mean to the cat but really her only way to justify caring about something in her life.. The cat never came into the house but spent most of her time out in my grandmother's back yard Cammie had also created a little hole in a bush where she hid out. My grandmother was 84 when she passed and my father was devastated. Not just the passing of his mom, but because he wasn't with her. The one thing that he did know was that cat was there.
We don't know exactly what happened but what we do know is that she was out in her back yard where she spent lots of time.. This was summertime in Brentwood and its very hot there.. It was a few days before the gardener found my grandmother who had apparently fallen and died. Next to her body was the bush and Cammie. It gave all of us a feeling of relief to know that she wasn't alone and unbelievable love for Cammie for staying with her.
Now to Cammie's story: My father knew how much this cat meant to my grandmother and called me to see what I could do to help.. As soon as my grandmother was gone Cammie was noticeably acting different.. also she had this little problem with her eye. It was missing. I went to Brentwood to see what I could do and was astonished to see this cats eye.. I work in feral cat clinics for the last 7 years and this was shocking to me .. Open wound, no eye… but pretty clean and not bothering her. My father said that she was attacked by a raccoon (im not so sure about that but she was attacked by something) but that the wound was over a year old and nobody had ever brought her to a vet.. (can't explain or understand the mentality) He figured she was an old cat and should probably just be put down but I said I would take her to the vet to get her checked out first.
So the vet in Antioch gave her shots and had her tested.. He wasn't very specific about her age, but did say aside from her eye she was fine. So I took her to my vet in El Cerrito and he was great.. The socket was extremely clean all though there was a bit of infection going on. He agreed to do the surgery to close her eye up and did an amazing job. They kept her for an extra day not because of any problems with the surgery, but just because she wasn't eating. She was at my place for the beginning of her recovery which was sad.. She had to wear a big awful collar, she was isolated in a room (away from our cats) and she wouldn't eat or drink a thing for me. Failure to thrive I have seen in kittens but never in a cat - not this way. So then it hit me .. Like my grandmother dignity was the key.. The collar had to go. I brought her back to the vet and we got her pumped up w/ fluids and started to feed her w/ a syringe.. within a day she was so much better, and soon after Juliet came and picked her up. THAT'S WHEN THE ANGELS CAME … Juliet and ICRA (Island Cat Rescue of Alameda) are heaven sent .. I cannot think of another group that would have taken this girl in, and loved her and found you!
It's so great because everybody had an angel in this story … For our family, Cammie was our angel. For me Juliet/ICRA was my angel and most importantly you are Cammie's. I am so grateful for your kindness. -------- Cammie was with me from adoption in February 2008 until she passed in April 2011. She is still missed.
