Fanfic Self-Rec Thing

Thanks for the tag, @fandomn00blr, this has given me an excuse to go look through my fics! Idk who to tag, but if you see this and do it, please tag me, I love to see it

I hadn’t published anything in a while before this year, so all but one of these are old, but oh well. I’m also gonna include testimonials from the comments, cause that’s fun innit

1. Same Time, Same Place (Explicit, 4/6 chapters, 24,772 words) A post-canon Our Flag Means Death Lucius/Izzy fic, in which they’re each separately stranded in Nassau, losing their minds, and looking for a distraction from the horrors. Subtitle should be Izzy Hands and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known. While this is not finished yet, it is planned and I work on it literally every chance I get, so... it’s going.

From the comments: “[T]his fic is such a joy... it's so fun and funny to read. Beautiful writing, insane chemistry--love it, love it." (I get so many great comments on this one T.T)

2. Warm (Explicit, one-shot, 1,416 words) A little Merribela I wrote for a prompt and actually really like. It’s the last in a rough series, but I haven’t gotten around to actually putting them into one on Ao3, so there’s context but I think it’s evident enough you don’t need to have read any others.

3. Bitten (General-Explicit, 7 one-shots of various lengths but altogether 10,586 words) Both isolated and adrift in a place that doesn't quite feel like home, Carver and Merrill have a lot in common. Maybe even enough to overcome their massive differences. I ship everyone with Merrill and I’m not sorry about it lol

4. A Visit (Teen, 929 words) An Awakening Tabristair fic - there’s a whole series for these two, but it’s all old and this is the only one I still like writing-wise. Also a prompt fill!

Thank you for this prompt! I felt like writing a little Carver x Merrill for tonight's @dadrunkwriting.

The way to the alienage is dark, the sun hiding behind the tall buildings up in Hightown. Carver walks with purpose, knowing that people, that the elves are watching him. He's out of place here. A human in templar armor, it's a small miracle that nobody's throwing rotten fruit at him.

The taste of the air changes as he enters the plaza of the alienage. It's the vhenadahl, the tree of the people. Merrill had explained that to him. Somehow, the tree makes the air cleaner. He didn't believe it at first, but as he breathes in now, he has to admit that the air doesn't smell of the foundries and tanneries, but like rays of sunshine.

He turns to the right, knowing quite well where Merrill lives. It's not the first time he shoves his helmet under his arm and knocks on the green door, waiting anxiously to be led inside.

The door opens slowly and just for a gap. Carver doesn't recognise Merrill at first. Usually she's full of energy, shining so bright. But today, her light is gone.

"Carver. What are you doing here?"

"Can I come in? Please?"

Merrill opens the door wide, and Carver follows her inside. The curtains are drawn and only one candle spreads a little light in the room. His armor creaks as he moves through the small room, his shoulder guards nearly scraping against the walls.

"Isabela just left," Merrill says as she sits down in a rickety chair. "My clan. They cast me out."

Carver sits on the other chair, flinching at the metallic noises he makes. "Hawke told me what happened."

"Aren't you going to get in trouble?" She looks at the symbol on his chest. A flaming cross, the symbol of hunters. He shouldn't have come here like this.

As quick as possible, he unties his gauntlets and takes Merrill's hand in his. "That doesn't matter."

"I'm alone now."

"You're not alone," Carver says. "You have friends now, here."

Merrill's hand clenches between his. "Please don't leave me."

"I won't." Carver's heart beats painfully in his chest.

He looks down on himself, over all that metal, embraced with symbols Merrill fears and he rips it off, piece by piece. A pile of metal ends up next to the door and he can finally breathe.

"I'm not leaving you," he says and pulls Merrill in his arms. "I'm staying here, as long as you want."

Hey! I’m hollyand on AO3 and I write Dragon Age 2 fanfiction! I write mostly Carver Hawke/Merrill, Garrett Hawke/Anders [link], and the odd DA2 rare-pair fic. Here are the Carver/Merrill fanfics I’ve posted to Archive of Our Own.

The Courtship of Daisy and Junior (Rated Mature/Explicit):

Following the trip to Chateau Haine with Carver, Isabela hatches a plot to matchmake the templar with Merrill. Varric bets that it won’t work, while Merrill has no idea what’s going on. Will Carver manage to win Merrill’s heart? Or will Isabela lose her bet? (Set near the beginning of Act 2; inspired by party banter between Carver and Isabela in the Mark of the Assassin DLC.) Completed, 64,516 words and 23 chapters long.

A Chance Engagement (Rated Teen and Up, some F!Hawke/Isabela):

Regency AU. When Miss Merrill attends the Kirkwall public assembly ball, the last man she expects to engage in a dance is Carver Hawke – a single man who has just come into possession of a large fortune. A Marriage of Convenience (or: The Spy Who Married Me) (Rated Mature/Explicit):

Modern AU. Garrett Hawke has political ambitions – and one of those involves marrying off his ex-Templar brother Carver, to smooth his promotion to Viscount. Merrill is in modern-day Kirkwall spying (badly) on Hawke on behalf of Keeper Marethari. When Carver and Merrill agree to marry for convenience and later annul the marriage for non-consummation, they might find that maybe, just maybe, all might not go as planned. Completed, 20,920 words and 6 chapters long.

The Templar And The Blood Mage (Rated Explicit; some M!Hawke/Anders):

Carver has finally managed, with Isabela’s help, to get together with Merrill. Being a Templar, however, means he is forced to keep his relationship a secret - a fact that is not helped by the publication of a certain friend-fiction that becomes the Kirkwall version of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Also known as Hollyand’s excuse to write lots of smut. (Sequel to “The Courtship of Daisy and Junior”, although I wrote this fic first.) On hiatus, 42,142 words and 9 chapters long.

Far Too Cute to be Anything But Naughty (rated Explicit):

Merrill discovers she has a templar kink, where she gets off on being Silenced or having her mana drained. Since no-one else seems to want to do “dirty things” with her anyway, she decides Carver will be the man – and the templar – to indulge her. Set mostly during the Mark of the Assassin DLC. Completed, 8,420 words and 3 chapters long.

Soulmate AU. Templars and blood mages are mortal enemies—but what if one is the other’s soulmate? Polyamorous-friendly and Aro-friendly Soulmate AU with time skips; angst with a happy ending. Written for an exchange. Completed, 9,785 words and 7 chapters long.

Carver and Merrill Go On A Picnic (Along With Everyone Else) (Rated Teen and Up):

Written for two prompt requests for the Black Emporium Rare Pair Fanfic Exchange 2016: “Carver crushing on Merrill, Merrill being obliviously adorable, and Hawke (preferably female) being a huge troll. Bonus points for Varric being Hawke’s backup troll. No smut for this one, just Carver and Merrill fumbling adorably around each other. Happy ending please!” and “Carver pines over Merrill, is really awkward about it, and the rest of the gang tease him mercilessly”. Set in Act 1. One-shot, 2,404 words.

Truth or Dare (Rated Mature):

The crew play ‘Truth or Dare’ over a few drinks at the Hanged Man. Merrill ends up with a forfeit that makes things a little awkward… for Carver, anyway. Set in Act 1. One-shot, 3,470 words.

Cupcakes (Rated General/Teen and Up):

Modern AU. Merrill participates in a local baking competition, and everyone is head over heels in love with her special Dalish cupcakes. One of the judges, Carver Hawke, reluctantly attends the event because his mother is the president of the local Baking Society… and might have fallen for more than her baking skills. Written for a Tumblr prompt. One-shot, 2,384 words.

In Vino Veritas (Rated Teen):

Warden Carver helps Merrill home from the Hanged Man when she’s drunk. Cuteness ensues. Written for an exchange. One-shot, 1,162 words.

Do You Wanna Build A Snowman? (Rated Teen and Up):

It snows in Kirkwall, and Merrill persuades Warden Carver – and Fenris and Marian Hawke – to play in the snow with her. Set after DA2; written for the Carver Defence Squad Secret Santa Exchange 2016. One-shot, 1,955 words.

A Fake Date at the De Launcet Mansion Ball (Rated Teen and Up):

Merrill gets lost in Kirkwall… and accidentally ends up at a ball at the De Launcet Mansion in Hightown. Fortunately for her, she runs into Carver Hawke - and together they formulate a plan to pretend that she is there as his date, while he can secretly spy on Emile de Launcet’s parents for the Knight Commander. What could go wrong? Written for a Tumblr prompt. One-shot, 6,614 words.

Knight Takes Queen (Rated Explicit):

Merrill is a size queen, and only a certain Knight-Corporal of the Kirkwall Templar Order can satisfy her (and give her the creampie of her dreams). One-shot, 4,348 words.

Major Arcana: VIII. Strength (Rated Teen and Up):

From a collection of ficlets based on the cards of the tarot, posted on AO3 as a multi-chaptered fic by accident instead of posting as a fanfiction series. Carver and Merrill sit around a campfire and talk in Act 1. One-shot, 776 words.

Major Arcana: XIII. Death (Rated Teen and Up):

From a collection of ficlets based on the cards of the tarot, posted on AO3 as a multi-chaptered fic by accident instead of posting as a fanfiction series. Grey Warden Carver comforts Merrill after the death of her entire clan. One-shot, 2,043 words.

the things we cannot say (not out loud, but i love you) (Rated Teen and Up):

In the years that follow the Arishok battle, Grey Warden Carver Hawke and Merrill try to write to each other. Epistolary angst fic set in Act 3 written entirely as a series of letters. One-shot, 1,692 words.

I'm writing a roommates AU for Carver and Merrill because I can't focus on anything unless it's procrastinating on something else.

...

A cozy looking armchair covered in blankets and paperback books sat opposite the windows, and he tilted his head at the array. Leaning over the chair, he picked up a book. Its dog-eared pages and well-worn cover signified that someone loved it very much, and at that, Carver wondered if he'd walked into the wrong apartment after all.

"Would you like to borrow it? You can, you know, as long as you don't mind notes in the margins."

He dropped the book and whipped around to the owner of the sing-song voice, who was certainly not his sister. A slender elf wearing a pair of loose, green overalls smiled brightly at him. Her baggy sweater and bare feet told him this was her little nook, and he'd just disturbed it. For some reason she wasn't alarmed at him breaking into her apartment, and that was even stranger than getting the wrong door.

"I'm sorry," he said, cringing at his mistake. "My sister's letting me stay at her place and I must have walked in here by accident."

The elf's smile dimmed in disappointment for a moment. "Oh, well I'm sure she would have mentioned me. But Hawke is busy. I must of slipped her mind."

"You know my sister?" It came out gruff. He frowned in confusion and could see on the elf's face that she'd taken it as a sign he was annoyed with her.

"Well, yes, I'm her roommate?"

Aurelia’s July Challenge 2017 - Day 27 - Merrill/Carver

„I don‘t think anyone could ever be as lovely as you.“

Sometimes Carver thought that his life couldn‘t get any better. Like just now, when he was sitting on the Wounded Coast, away from his brother and his ragtag band for a day, with the most lovely person he knew right beside him. He threw a shy glance at her, and Merrill looked right back at him and gave him one of her lovely smiles that always made his insides turn to goo.

If Anders knew about that he‘d probably blame it on blood magic, but Carver knew that it was something else. He was hopelessly in love with the Dalish elf, that was what it was. He had been trying to court Merrill for a while now, and she seemed open enough to it, even though he wasn‘t sure that she really got his intentions already. But he also didn‘t want to be too pushy…

At least he had managed to take her on a date now. Nothing fancy, but they were sitting on the beach on a blanket and were enjoying a peaceful afternoon (after much grumbling about how he should be careful around her, Fenris had agreed to make sure that no group of bandits, Vashoths, wolves, spiders or other vermin made it to their little bay, and Carver knew he owed him a few bottles of that fancy wine he liked now. It was worth it though.

Merrill seemed very busy, intensely focused on her lap where she had a bunch of flowers that she was slowly weaving into a wreath with her clever, nimble fingers.

„It is a beautiful day, is it not?“

„It is“ Carver agreed, even though there were heavy rainclouds hanging at the horizon. Maybe they wouldn‘t drift into their direction. And even if they did, it wouldn‘t matter much. As long as Merrill wouldn‘t mind, and he knew that she wouldn‘t.“

„You know… I don‘t think I‘ve ever met anyone as lovely as you“, he murmured, then blushed bright red and turned away to rub at the back of his neck. Why was he always so clumsy around her, damn?

He heard a little giggle next to her, and then something touched his head. He felt around with his hand and realised that it was the wreath – the flower crown – that Merrill had made earlier.

„I think you‘re wrong“ she stated and took his face in her tiny hands, making him look at her.

„You‘ve met yourself, and you‘re clearly the most lovely person“ she stated, and Carver momentarily worried about whether it was possible to pass out from blushing too much.

„You… think so?“ he asked, his heart beating frantically. She liked him? She thought he was lovely? She would even give him a flowercrown?

„Of course I do“ she replied and then leaned in to press her lips against Carver‘s in a short, clumsy kiss.

„This is how you show it, right? That you like someone?“

Now she seemed to be at odds, and Carver quickly pulled her back in to return her kiss, albeit with maybe a little more force.

„Maker, never change“ he murmured as he pulled her close against him, and she got comfortable in his lap with a shy little giggle.

„I wasn‘t planning on it, you know. I think I like myself the way I am. Even if not everyone sees it like that...“

She sounded sad then, and he knew that she was thinking about some of the others of their companions that only saw her as a silly foolish girl with no idea of how life worked. But he knew better, and he leaned forward to give her kiss a cheek.

„Not everyone may see just yet, but you‘re wonderful the way you are, Merrill. Truly wonderful, and smart, and kind, and beautiful, and openhearted, and please, never change. You arelly are the most lovely person I‘ve ever met…. Even including myself, if you insist.“

WIP whatever day it is

Thanks for the tag @fandomn00blr 💘 and I’m tagging @hollyand-writes if you want to post WIP things or be aware of the carvermerrill I’m writing 👀, and as always everyone else should just tag me if they wanna post what they’re working on

I don’t want to speak too soon but I might… actually be about to start posting this one. It’s my carvermerrill modern scene AU:

They practiced. They’ll be fine. They practiced.

“There you are.” Peaches appears in the doorway, holding a 40. “They wanna do a sound check.”

They’ll be fine. Carver doesn’t know anyone here besides his bandmates, not yet. Isabela promised to show up, but hasn’t yet, and Anders, who he only sort of knows, is in motion every time he sees him. So Carver took refuge in the kitchen, which has been relatively empty, pretending to get a beer from the fridge for the past ten minutes.

“You look nervous,” Peaches says.

“I’m not.”

She holds out her bottle, and he shakes his head. “Not even a little?”

“No. I’ll be down in a minute.”

They practiced. And it went okay. Not perfectly, Alistair’s still a little shy on a few songs, but okay. He hasn’t seen face tat girl, but there’s not that many people here yet. There’s a girl with a bunch of stick-and-pokes who looks like she got her hair caught in a lawnmower smoking a hookah in the living room, a short goth girl with a chest piece of bones over where her actual chest bones are, but no face tat girl. Maybe she won’t be here. He doesn’t know which would be worse.

He follows Peaches down the stairs and into the basement, which Anders calls unfinished, but everyone else in the world might call a safety hazard. Concrete floors, exposed beams, and people smoking and drinking and slamming into each other as hard as they can. People. Maybe a lot of them.

They’ll be fine.

My ultimate OTP! (I mean, given that I run the Carvermerrill Tumblr ship blog, this should surprise no-one, LMAO.) Forever sad that Bioware teased us with this ship in-game, and even indicated that they intended for it to happen until the third DLC got cancelled. But this is what fanfic and fanart is for!

I am happy for any AU or canonverse/canon-divergent scenario - I love any and all scenarios with this pairing and can never get enough! Warden Carver, Templar Carver, Act 1 Carver, AU Carver, it’s all good with me.

I love this pairing and there is just not enough of it.
