i’s really frustrating to owe tens of thousands of dollars for 2 degrees (bachelor & master) and having it be a useless endeavor.

i’m highly educated and graduated with honors. but i don’t have 3, 5, 7, 10 years experience in any job, ever. further yet in anything that relates to my degrees.

“entry level” jobs always require years of experience (at least here in the states)... and i just don’t get it. that’s not entry level to me. they want to pay people entry level salary for years of experience. it’s bullshit.

i apply to jobs constantly. if the job requires interview(s), i will not get the job. i’ve interviewed for hundreds of jobs, most of which i’m overqualified for considering my education. as soon as i walk in for the interview or get called into the room to interview, they get one look at me (and you can SEE the look on their faces, trust me), and they’ve already decided they are not giving me the job. i’ve had interviews last between 3-5 min because they know they have to seem like they tried but they have no interest.at  one interview, at a nearby bmv (bureau of motor vehicles for those outside the states who may not know), the manager stopped mid question to end the interview. with all of these interviews, i can almost guarantee my resume goes into the trash as soon as i leave the room. super infuriating.

the only place i have applied that does not require interviews is the i r s. that’s why i always reapply there. i pass a criminal bg check and bingo bango, work. (but it can take months to like, a full year to be hired for their positions)

that being said, i lost my ideal job as a clerk at the irs a whopping 5 days into it because i got bronchitis and had to miss work but had not yet worked enough time to earn any kind of leave. ‘murica

so, people will say to me, “ok, the job search isn’t going well but you need money to live. just apply to like walmart and taco bell and keep searching for better while you work.”

my pals... i cannot do those jobs. i wish i could because i would. 

my health is trash. physical and mental. i can’t stand up for more than a few min at a time. i basically can’t do any physical labor because i can’t lift anything more than a few pounds and that whole bending, twisting, etc. obviously doesn’t fly either. 

also got sick during the clerk position because i had to walk to a parking garage down the street. after the walk, which almost killed me anyway, i did fine in the office. but then i had to walk back down to my car, through a parking garage in which the elevators were down for maintenance, trek up multiple flights of stairs, not able to find my stupid ass car for over 2 hours, crying and having a massive panic attack while desperately looking. i have some health issues that cause overheating, so when added to all that mess and it being about 40 degrees outside, my immune system went right into fucking me up lol

and jobs that require passing a physical? bet you can guess how that goes. i can’t pass a physical, not even close. another situation where all i have to do is walk in the room and the doctor/nurse is like, “oh no... no no no... no passing this.” (i’m fat af guys... like very fat--and there are those of you on my friends list that i have seen be shitty to very fat people and i hope you’re miserable tbh... especially those of you who are “smaller fats” who attack those larger than you or look at them with disgust--i honestly hate you and i hope you out yourselves on this post so the trash can take itself out)

i can’t work at a call center because i have severe phone anxiety. (my first time around at the irs was the call center... i was good at it but had anxiety and panic attacks multiple times a day, nearly every day.)

i’ve applied for disability time and time again and am always denied. i guess because i’m not on my deathbed, i’m not disabled enough, despite barely being able to function as a human. 

i guess the whole point of this post is for me to just express myself. i’ve been doing a lot of job searching and applying. and each time, when i finish doing it, i have an anxiety attack. i just... i don’t know. it’s my own fault, but i can’t just wave a magic wand and make everything better. it’s going to take years and years. i don’t have years. i’m without money, without a car (because it’s fucked up and i need the money to fix it), without a home... i am have nothing.

Purely from my own odd experience since I still barely know anything about cars, but could I request headcannons for RFA (or just Zen and V if ya want) reacting to a female MC who works at an auto parts store and has to do a lot of heavy lifting, interact with a lot of men, mostly hicks, and works with guys older than her? Shes typically soft and shy around them but developed a bit sassier and tomboyish attitude for interacting with customers. Sorry this is so specific 😅 thank you!

ohh wow! I...actually now honestly Nothing About Cars, so I’m not too sure how to work with this T-T I’ll just write Zen and V for now, but if you like it, then I can continue with the rest of the characters too!!

ZEN:

* He was honestly excited when, after mentioning in the RFA chatroom how he loves riding his motorcycle, MC got just as excited, asking him about the motorcycle’s model, what modifications he’d done to it, and other little details, some of which even Zen himself didn’t have an answer for!

* When they explained they work in an auto parts store, he was shocked. “Wait, wait, which one?!” he asked, and at the sound of the store’s name, he wrecked his mind for a memory he knew was there.

* “Wait! I know you!” he screamed. He’d called MC immediatly after remembering why their name sounded so familiar, his excitedness seeping over through the receiver, “You’re that cool lady that works at the store! I’d go there often to get stuff for my bike and I remember seeing you a lot! Hell, I even tried flirtiing with you once and you rejected me so fast I could hear my jaw hit the floor!” he was only...half-joking about that last bit.

* Truth be told, of course he remembered her-she was the reason he kept going back to that store, and something in him was both excited and confused at the way his heart skipped a beat when he saw her take a box that must’ve weighed more than she did and lift it up like it was no big deal, even stopping to chat with some of her co-workers whilst holding it.

* Seeing the MC on the messenger though-this had developed into something bigger than a crush, there was no denying it. She was so soft-spoken and polite, yet whenver Seven made a jab at her, she’d return it tenfold, like a little chihuahua bearing it’s fangs to anyone that pisses it off. He was so attracted to her it was insane (and high-key proud of her for putting Seven in his place lmao).

* When she came to his house he was a stuttering blushing mess-and so was she! She was still the same cheerful sassy girl he’d met at the shop, but she was also this quiet soft girl he wanted to protect-how dare she do this to his heart, Zen just couldn’t handle it!!

* When they eventually got together (after a lot of matchmaking from the RFA because Zen was being really shy for once in his life lol), he’d go to the shop often to see her, and sometimes get some stuff for his bike too, which she’d later help him implement at home.

* He’s a very jealous sort of guy, so seeing her talk and laugh with her co-workers did bring a bitter taste to his throat, especially when she’d bump her shoulder into theirs or let them pat her back after a job well done, but he bit the feelings down-he trusted MC whole-heartedly, and knew this feeling was irrational. He’d never let this interfere in their relationships.

* It really helped when MC introduced him to her co-workers though, and they all gave him the stink eye at first-was this pretty-boy type enough for their friend? But eventually they all saw how much he loves her and accepted him as part of the group. He could tell that most of them looked at MC like a little sister who was just. As buff as them lol, and he appreciated it, happy to know she’s so well liked in her workplace.

* Would absoloutely take her on bike rides too ;) But he’d be thrice as careful than usual-he had his most precious person riding right beside him afterall!! He’d also give her a harsh no when she asked if she could ride the bike instead-he trusts her, but he loves her too much and would never want to risk her getting injured, ever.

V/JIHYUN:

* He found out about her workplace from Seven’s background check, but never thought twice about it. 

* He only put more thought into it, when one day, whilst talking about Zen’s motorcycle in the group chat, Zen took a jab at him, insulting his worn-down, has-seen-better-days little Volkswagen, saying it looks like it’s ready to break at the spot at any minute now.

* MC was suddenly very intrigued by the conversation-asking a dozen questions about V’s car that he honestly had no answer to. He offered that if she was this interested, she could drop by his place for a cup of coffee and to take a look at the car too, especially after she insisted she’d love to help fix it up- “Vintage beauties like that should be conserves as best as possible!” she insisted, and V found her enthusiasm contagious-even if he didn’t share the same interest, seeing how passionate she was about it made his heart flutter.

* He loved how open and bold she could be, even though she was also so bashful from time to time, especially when meeting in person-he almost couldn’t believe that the gentle, soft girl sitting across him nursing a cup of warm coffee between her palms was the same one that managed to shut both Jumin and Zen up whilst they were having yet another arguement in the messenger-he held her at such a high regard after that, even higher than before.

* True to her word, she took one look at his car and decided this is something she just has to get her hands on, already mumbling out loud different alterations she could do to his little Beetle as he called it, whilst keeping its exterior the same.

* V laughed, putting a hand on her shoulder as she stood there eyeing the vehicle. “I trust you fully MC-whatever you want to do to the car, you can do it.”

* The expression of joy that filled MC’s face at his words made his heart skip a beat or two. Hell, he’d break his car a dozen times over if putting it back together would make her this happy!!

* He let her take his car to the shop, so she could match the necessary parts to it, and watched her work-he even met all her co-workers, who by the end of the day, took MC aside and told her ‘to protect this man at all costs’ (cue V looking to them all confused like OwO?? and the big burly men working with MC just holding back tears at his cuteness lmao)

* Within two weeks, the car was unrecognisable-Zen could never make fun of it again! It was still the same old beauty, but it ran so much smoother, it’s engine didn’t turn off every few minutes, even the whole dashboard was different, with a newer radio installed along with an AUX port- “so you can listen to any music you want, all the time!” MC said with a grin that made his heart flutter.

* “I-I’d love to take you on a drive now...on a roadtrip, as a thank-you..maybe?” he asked, his cheeks a furious red as MC beamed up at him.

* He’d oficially ask her to date him at the end of their daytrip, on a hill with a view to the city skyline, sitting on the hood of the car with her beside him-and he’d count his lucky stars for the shitty state his car had been, for letting him meet this new side of MC, the one that made him fall head over heels.

Ahhh. You didn’t ask this before. Good question. This is also a hella  long response so lemme put it under the ‘read more’ (that is probably why my responses are not working because ‘WOW BITCH 600 WORDS OR LESS NONE OF THIS STORY BUILDING BULL SHIT WE CAN’T HAVE THAT HERE’)

Uhhh…so I know this isn’t very ‘legal’ but I stole Allen off of the car accident Mana had that resulted in his death. Yeah, I know. In my defense, the kid was thrown from the vehicle (Mana had an old as fuck car, like the shit before seatbelts were invented. I don’t know how he kept that piece of shit running or how he managed to get past coppers with no seat belts, especially with a kid in the car). I was a little amazed that no one from my team noticed the kid just lying there. I mean you would fucking think since they are police and it’s their job. Guess you shouldn’t expect much from a piece of shit town’s police force.

So, I stole Allen from the car accident because 1. Nobody else noticed the fucking kid thrown from a vehicle and 2. I was suspicious of Mana’s car accident (I knew the guy since high school before he went bat shit crazy and left). 3. Plus, the kid had that strange star scar cut into his forehead which was a symbol that Neah drew back in high school. That’s what tipped me off and that’s what made me take the little brat in.

Should I have taken him to a hospital? Probably. But I didn’t because I’m possessive of Mana and Neah, they were a strange duo but nonetheless the only friends I had in high school. I wanted to try and protect their reputations if I could. I know that is not okay to do as a police officer. It’s not okay to withhold evidence, but as far as I’m fucking concerned, I never wanted to be apart of the force. I just did it because Tiedoll said I would be good at it and it’ll keep me somewhat, stable condition. I still drank and shit, but at least I could somewhat take care of myself and Tiedoll could watch over me.

So, no I didn’t have legal custody of Allen and that’s also not exactly legal, but I don’t see anyone knocking down my fucking door wanting custody of him.

(Mun: However, I do have a fic chapter where I have played around with the idea of Allen’s birth parents taking custody of him, leading to Cross having to fight and win custody back. This blog is inspired/somewhat grabbing ideas from the Parent Drabble series isweartoerenimnotjaeger is doing. But I figured for the sake of story telling I’ll give a rundown version of the chapter. If you do wish to read it on your own, warning, that chapter is triggering. It was meant more to be a ‘what if’ scenario going away from the bigger plot and I might be doing a second, highly less triggering rendition in the future.)

At least, I thought I wouldn’t have anyone knocking down my door for custody of him. When the brat was 10 there was an incident of a police officer coming by telling me that the brat’s birth parents wanted custody of their kid. I know some laws may differ depending on the case, but usually when the original birth parents want their kid back, you’re kind of fucked. You can’t just keep their kid locked in your basement (I wanted to and honestly it would’ve been better for Allen and I after I learned what those yahoo’s did to him.). Once again, it’s illegal, so I had no choice but to give up Allen for a time.

Apparently, his birth parents saw him at some choir singing competition (because the kid likes singing and he’s good at it) that their second brat (Allen’s half-brother) competes in. I don’t know how the fuck they connected that “Oh it’s the son we sold off to the circus” but they did, and they took away Allen. Allen was not in any way shape or form okay with this, but sadly the law is shit about factoring in a child’s needs to begin with.

Anyways, I sent Tim off with him to keep him safe (also because I didn’t trust these birth parents of his). Tim is his comfort item and friend. It would be a crime not to send him off with the brat. Lo’ and behold, my fucking senses were correct, and his birth parents decided to use his talent at singing to try and profit off of him. They also basically ruined all the effort I put into the brat, I’m talking a good diet to keep up with his high as fuck metabolism, coping with being in crowds, trusting people, learning how to read and write. So, it’s a good thing I sent Tim with him because Tim got video evidence of all the abusive illegal shit they did to the brat. That in turn, sent me to court to fight for custody for the brat. I was fucking nervous because I know how unfair and fucked the justice system is (especially since my nose was never squeaky clean to begin with. I did some shit in my younger years and I was also a drunk). I don’t know what kind of fucking miracle occurred or who I’m supposed to thank, but I did get custody of Allen eventually. No way in hell he will be taken away from me again. His birth parents better hope to God I don’t see their asses in hell because for all they did to Allen I will be doing ten times over.

Technically I was tagged in this by @smartcookie727 lol Not sure if being tagged in an answer counts. But also given that the actual words for the I’ll Tag section are “if ya wanna do it go for it,” I’m gonna avoid my responsibilities and sleep and do it.

1) How many works in progress do you currently have?

Is this like multi-chapter type things that are currently being written and shared? Or like, things I’m working on but haven’t been shared yet? Imma go with the first. I got four. On the Gajevy front we got Kingdom. On the Sheith front we got I’ll Take the Blame, You Take My Conscience; For the Love of Football does this really count since its a series of one shots i dont even know whatever counting it; and Vector to the Stars. PEEP THAT HORRIBLE EXCUSE AT SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION Y’ALL. dont worry i hate me too lol

2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?

Uuuuuh, yes. Because that’s literally why I’m here lol Writing is kind of my thing? I have a degree in journalism, which I got solely because I thought that that would do better for getting me a job than a degree in creative writing, but would still allow me to write a book. Not, that you need a degree to do that. But when I did decide to try my hand at fan fiction, it was as a vehicle to hone the technical aspect of my writing and my voice, not only for the possibility of publishing one day, but also for my own journalistic writing. SO, to answer this as 21 y/o Vicci who hadn’t yet dipped her toes into the proverbial fan fic pond yet, yes, I would. 

3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?

PAPER. There is something about good, old fashion paper books. Will I read an ebook? Sure. I read shit on my computer all the time, I got a couple things in iBooks right now. But I will always, ALWAYS go paper over ebook any day.

4) When did you start writing?

Like.... just.... ever? Or for fic? I wrote my first original work in the 6th grade. Still got it too. It’s horrible and has every lame middle school writer thing you can think of down to cross dressing to sneak into a villain’s lair-- TWICE-- dragons because why the hell not, and Egypt. Honestly, 6th grade Vicci was on a whole other level. I’ll have to pull it out some time to get a good laugh, and send myself into a void of embarrassment. no i was actually really proud of that thing. its like 200+ pages handwritten Writing fic, I started five years ago with ye olde 1D fan fiction. The first two were horrendous. To this day, I still cherish Tweethearts.

5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?

This is the part where I admit to you that aside from like twice, no one reads my work before I post it. Everything you get goes up un-beta’d. Up until like a month and a half ago, I didn’t even read anything before posting it. I literally added my asterisks at the end and then sent it on its way. Now almost everything gets a read through before I share, but never ever to anyone else. WHY YOU ASK. I did my time with editors with the near decade I wrote for various websites and magazines and I have had my work changed to the point that the entire meaning and feeling behind it was torn away until it wasn’t even what I’d intended in the first place. So I have trust issues with other people getting their hands on my stuff. Long story short, no lol 

6) Where is your favorite place to write?

I don’t think I really have one. I do a lot of writing while I’m working, so a lot of it happens at the dining room table lol If not there, in bed. Sometimes the car. Sometimes the shower. 

7) Favorite childhood book?

How childhood are we talking? I had a book of old fairy tales haha is spelled it tail the first time rip that had the most beautiful illustrations and I really loved that book. And also A Wish for Wings That Work. ALSO I REALLY LOVED WALK TWO MOONS.

8) Writing for fun or publication?

Fun is my priority right now, but I am writing Vector to the Stars with the intent of possibly editing it into an original work and publishing one day. But I like to think that if I ever do publish something, I wrote it for fun to begin with.

9) Pen and paper or computer?

BOTH. I’ll also take on tablet and phone for $500, Alex. Look, I got my start in handwriting shit and sometimes you just need to feel pen on paper to get the juices flowing. Does it go quicker typing? Yes. Yes it does. But I’m a staunch believer that, much like in life, you sometimes need a change of pace and scenery. Whenever I get stuck, I switch the medium up. So both. All. Whatever.

10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?

My entire college career was a writing class lol That’s a lie, the first year was core classes and the second year I still had to deal with science, but the last year and a half was nothing but writing. Of course, not really the same since it’s a completely different form of writing but you know. IT COUNTS OKAY I HAVE TO TELL MYSELF MY EDUCATION COUNTS FOR SOMETHING. 

11) What inspires you to write?

Music. Music, music, always music. There’s a reason I devoted that much of my life to music journalism, and it’s because music is one of the great loves of my life. Sure, I need the inspiration of characters that speak to me, but every single thing that I have written has a soundtrack and music that gets the juices flowing. I dare say 90% of the things I’ve written all were born from music. 

EXAMPLES: 

Tweethearts came to me while listening to R U Mine? by the Arctic Monkeys. I wrote that chapter-- which happens like more than halfway through the fic-- before I wrote anything else.

ITTB came to me while listening to Eden playlists. To this day I cannot write anything for that fic without putting on my Eden mix.

I’m Gonna Be came to me while I was in the shower listening to Sleeping At Last.

The one shot that became MLC came to me while listening to Walking On Cars, who the band Gajeel travels with is modeled after.

VTTS was born from Glory by Dermot Kennedy also while in the shower.

Pt 3 of the football AU revealed itself during a cover of Call Me Maybe.

Long story short, I am very much inspired by music.

A/N: honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of this chapter, until the very end, so be nice, please lol. Next chapter will pick up, however.

TWENTY-SIX

When we land in Manchester, and I can’t help the anxiousness I feel wash over me. I told my parents I was coming, since Harry and I were going to be staying in the house for the night before driving down to Holmes Chapel the next day. It’s already late evening when we arrive, and Harry and I are in a weird state of exhaustion from traveling but also alertness from having gotten a bit of sleep on the plane on the way over. We’re mostly silent on the short drive from the airport to my parents’ home. Harry had someone drop his Range Rover off at the airport before we landed so we’d be able to drive ourselves around this weekend as opposed to calling cabs or renting a vehicle.

My mum is stood in the doorway of my childhood home when we get there, the light from inside the house illuminating her from behind. I can see she’s in a pretty thick jumper to keep out the chill that’s settled over the night. The display in Harry’s car read that it’s only about five degrees now from the lack of sunlight, and I can feel it as I step out of his toasty cab. 

Mum is by my side in an instant in her house slippers, wrapping her arms around me and enveloping me in her sunshine scent. I hug her back tightly, only letting her go when I see Harry come from the back, having gotten our bags. 

“Oh, Micky, baby. How was your flight?” she asks. Her hands immediately drift down to the bump that’s well concealed and very cozy under my jumper. She smiles as she runs her hands over her grandchild. I haven’t seen my mother since the holidays, and it’s definitely gotten much bigger in that time. 

“Good. Long, but uneventful. Got to fly first class,” I grin, wiggling my eyebrows. 

My mother’s smile dims a bit when she looks at Harry, but I can tell she’s still trying to be polite. My family was obviously quite furious with the situation I found myself in last year, putting a lot of the blame on Harry. I had warned them to be nice when we came, since he was the reason that I was able to come out at all. They agreed, especially when I told them there was stuff that they didn’t know that I would explain to them later. Knowing all I knew now would help in clearing the air, as well. I hope they can be civil long enough for me to get them alone to give them all the details. It would be nice to raise my daughter without her grandparents hating her father. 

“Harry, sweetie,” she greets, a hint of warmth for the man she once welcomed so fully into her home still present. I’m glad she hasn’t gone completely cold on him. “How are you, dear?”

“I’m doing alright,” he nods, accepting her kiss on the cheek.

Mum smiles a bit sympathetically, noticing the same somber tones I hear in his voice. She places a comforting squeeze to his shoulder. “Bit of a shock, yeah?”

Harry breathes out a humorless chuckle. “Yeah, a bit.”

“We’ll all work it out, dear. Babies are to be celebrated. Once everyone’s settled, I’m sure it’ll all feel better.” 

The words linger in the air between us all as Harry nods. I don’t know if it’s from the cold or what, but I swear I see tears glimmering in Harry’s eyes. He sniffles a bit and turns his head into his shoulder, both his hands full with our bags. 

“Let’s get inside, dears,” my mum announces, wrapping her hand around Harry’s waist and taking one of the bags. “Gonna catch a cold out here. You lot want some tea? Just made a cuppa for Vinny and me. Pot’s still hot.”

I smile at my mum’s back as I trail behind her and Harry, who walk linked together into the house. She’s so lovely for accepting Harry back so easily even though I know there’s still probably a lot of anger she harbors toward him. And it’s amazing knowing she trusts me enough to accept my word that the situation with Harry isn’t as it seems. 

Can only hope it goes as smoothly with my dad.

Mum drags me into the kitchen after leaving Harry and my father in the sitting room, awkwardly looking at each other. Harry’s eyes are still a bit watery—I’m still not quite sure from what—and he was kind of obsessively clearing his throat when my mother pulled me away. I’m a little scared to leave them alone together, because my dad may be nice, but he’s a bit more hardened than Mum. I can only imagine the glares he’s shooting Harry’s way.

“Should we really be leaving them alone?” I ask as soon as the door has swung shut behind us.

Mum goes about getting out more mugs and a couple more teabags. I can still see the steam rising out of the lip of the tea kettle, so I know the water is still going to be hot enough to steep the leaves properly. Mum’s never been one to make a shit cup of tea, and I was hoping she wasn’t going to start now. 

She chuckles and glances at me over her shoulder as she pours water. “You’re dad’s not gonna do anything rash, darling. Maybe just scare him a bit.”

“You think he’s not scared enough as it is?” I ask. “He got told a week ago that he’s gonna be a dad. I’d be shitting my pants if I were him. He doesn’t need Dad compounding that.”

“Well, if you would tell us what all’s been going on lately, maybe we’d be able to be nice again,” she suggests. “I’ll tell you tomorrow before we leave,” I promise. “Just know that things are a lot less on either of us than I first thought.”

“What do you mean by that?” she asks, obviously confused by my cryptic wording. 

I sigh. “Harry’s old management are a conspiracy theory come to life, basically.”

“They kept you from talking to each other, didn’t they?” For my mother being a grown woman with a life of her own, she sure knew way more about that general discourse within the One Direction fandom than the average person. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to find out that she’s had a secret Tumblr fan account this entire time. That’s how big of a fangirl she is.

“Pretty much, yeah.”

“Pricks. If I ever see Simon Cowell, I’m gonna beat his arse.”

“Don’t get thrown in jail, Mum. You’re too pretty for those awful jumpsuits.” She smiles at me as she hands me my mug. “Thank you, darling. Now let’s go rescue the lad, shall we?”

The scene we walk into is not as bad as I was imagining it would be. Harry’s sitting stiffly on the couch adjacent to the chair that my father’s sitting in, and my dad’s giving him a sort of steely look that I know looks intimidating to the unknowing person. I know my father, though, and he’s all bark and no bite when it comes to his intimidation tactics. I think I’ve heard my father properly raise his voice at me only a handful of times in my entire life, and it had been more out of fear than anger. And I know in this situation, my father’s more fearful as well. He’s afraid of me getting hurt further and he’s afraid of Harry letting us down. I want to ease his fears, and I’m hoping Harry and I can both take the time to do so. 

Mum hands Harry his mug of tea and he thanks her softly. He’s smaller in demeanor than I’ve ever seen him, his shoulders curled inward so he’s taking up as little space as possible, and his socked feet tucked close to the couch instead of how he’d usually allow his long legs to spread out or have his ankle crossed over the opposite knee. He keeps his elbows close to his sides as he cradles the mug in his hands, his rings clinking against the ceramic. The expression on his face is somber and a little shaken, if I’m reading him correctly. I wonder what he’s thinking, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask with my parents’ nearby. I make a mental note to ask him later.

“So how've you been, Harry?” my mum asks as she settles into the chair opposite my dad. I take a seat next to Harry on the sofa, though I place myself at the other end of it, not wanting to encroach upon his space if he needs it, which he looks like he does. I’ve never seen him look so withdrawn, and I kind of want to cuddle him and reassure him that it’s going to be okay. I don’t really have that position in his life anymore, though, so I’ll maintain my distance until he asks me otherwise. 

Harry takes a sip of his tea before answering. “Just enjoying my time off for now. Catching up with friends and spending time with my family, mostly. Figuring out what my next steps are career-wise.”

“You’ve got bigger things to figure out now, don’t you?” Dad asks, his voice a bit hostile and very obviously condescending.

“Dad,” I warn, throwing him a glare over the edge of my cup.

He gives me a, “What did I do?” face, which I roll my eyes at. Play innocent all he wants, I know he’s aware of exactly what he’s done.

“Uh…” Harry trails, looking between me and my parents, his brows furrowed. He’s taken to wiping one hand nervously against the thigh of his jeans, and I can see his knee starting to twitch, only a short moment away from a nervous bounce. “Yeah, I do. Micky and I have been working on it.”

“Dad, I told you to trust me. Leave Harry alone. We’re adults; we’re figuring it out.”

“You’re my daughter, Mick. It’s my job to look out for you, love,” he argues, his features softening.

“And I appreciate it,” I nod, giving him a smile. “But I’m dealing with my own problems. Harry and I aren’t clueless teenagers who have to rely on our parents for everything.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m not still worried about you two.”

“I get that. But have a little faith, yeah? I’ve got this.”

“Mick—”

“Leave them alone, Vinny,” my mum demands, giving him a look that he bows down to every time. It’s usually funny to witness, but no one’s laughing in this situation. “Got to trust them when they say they’re figuring it out. Our job is to support them and offer help when they need it, not question their decisions.” Dad heaves a sigh. There’s a few beats of silence where my parents just look at each other, seemingly having a silent conversation between each other while Harry and I pretend not to watch on.

I can feel the nerves coming off of Harry in waves still, and I’m not really surprised when he reaches over and gently pulls me closer to him by the hand. Knowing he doesn’t want to get too touchy when we’re around my parents, who would definitely get the wrong ideas, I’m not offended when he slides his hand into mine, my hand curled around just his fingers. He takes to running his thumb along all my knuckles, slowing when he comes into contact with the tiara ring on my middle finger. I give a gentle squeeze to his fingers as I glance up at him. 

“You okay?” I mouth.

Harry takes a deep breath through his nose before nodding once. “Will be,” he mouths back. The smile he offers is sad and doesn’t even begin to reach his eyes, also something I’ve never seen from him before. Prior to this, I hadn’t realized exactly how heavy this whole thing had been weighing on his shoulders. I have a feeling that when I first told him that his body immediately started running on adrenaline, so he had no chance to actually think of all the implications this situation has. Now that there’s been some time for the shock to wear off actual deep thought has come into play, he seems to be freaking out. I completely understand the reaction, but he needs to get through it sooner rather than later. There’s really not all that much time before our baby will be here.

I’m hoping the visit with his mum tomorrow will help to ease his fears, at least a little bit.

Harry heads to bed first that night, having not gotten as much sleep as me on the plane. I’m sure the emotional turmoil he’s been through recently doesn’t help his exhaustion either, so I set him up in Tommy’s old room—thanking whatever entity is looking over me that Tommy had to work tonight and didn’t drop by for a visit. 

“Your parents hate me,” Harry sighs as he unbuttons his shirt. 

I’ve been making sure there’s no questionable items around the room that Tommy may have left behind, so I stop and look at Harry. “They don’t hate you, Harry. They just don’t know everything. They’re still working on their perceived notions of what happened.”

“Are you gonna tell them?” he asks. He pulls on a plain t-shirt before bending to take off his socks. 

“Yeah. It’ll ease the hostility coming from my dad.”

“You’re mum seems surprisingly at ease,” he comments, his fingers going to the buttons of his jeans.

I purse my lips as I see him begin to undo his fly and very pointedly look only at his face. I don’t think I can take looking at Harry in his pants right now. I haven’t had sex since I last saw him, and pregnancy has made me more horny than usual. Harry shirtless seems to be a pretty regular occurrence, so I’ve become a bit desensitized, but Harry in only boxers, where the outline of his cock is more prominent than it is in his jeans, is something I can’t deal with in my current state. 

“My mum’s smart and realized something fishy was going on outside of the two of us. I don’t think my dad realizes a lot of your life was out of your control.” Harry nods and I realize he’s not going to pull on any joggers or shorts or anything, so I move to leave the room before I get embarrassingly flustered. “I’ll talk with them, though. Goodnight, Harry.”

I see the puzzled look on Harry’s face briefly as I make my way out the door. Just before I close it, I hear him call back a soft goodnight. I heave a sigh as I stand in the hallway outside of the room for a moment, gathering myself. I can hear my parents talking in quiet tones in the kitchen, so I head down there, hoping to catch them for a chat before they head to bed. It’s the weekend, but my parents like to keep up their routines.

My mum sees me standing in the doorway first, which draws my dad’s attention. He begins apologizing for scaring Harry and being a bit hostile, but I tell him it’s fine. I jump right into explaining what Harry and I discussed on the plane, making it clear to my dad that Harry didn’t just drop me for the sake of dropping me. While he’s not pleased Harry didn’t try to at least come by the house to get ahold of me, he understands that his management are really the ones to blame. I admit that I thought that Harry could have got to my parents to get to me, but then I realized I could have done the same to get to him, but that would have been entirely out of bounds and, not to mention, really weird for either of us. 

Dad promises to ease up on Harry and not make his experience of this pregnancy a more traumatizing experience than it already has been. It’s not really going to get any easier, and he’s had less time to get use to the idea than the rest of us. 

I tell them that we’re leaving for Holmes Chapel in the morning to have breakfast with Harry’s family, Gemma having come in from London to visit her brother for the weekend. I’m obviously really nervous about being there, since I haven’t seen any of them since August and Gemma already didn’t like me. Having to go see Harry’s family is giving me a taste of what Harry went through today, and the heavy feeling in my stomach is not something I’m okay with in the least.

I’m awake at five the next morning from the jet lag and how early I went to bed the night before. The room is grey, and it’s a little strange to be waking up in someone else’s bed without Micky in it with me. The last time I was here, I shared a room with her, and I got used to the feeling of having her in my arms as we slept, her warm little body pressed against mine, her soft little breaths puffing out against my collar bones from where she had her face buried against my chest. I smile at the memory, rubbing my fingers over the area like I can feel the presence of her against me again. 

The memory is a fond one and something I wouldn’t mind experiencing again, but a bitterness settles over me when I realize I’ll probably never get to feel that again. Micky was never officially my girlfriend, but she’s the closest thing to it that I’ve had in years, and I would have been happy making it official once I was done touring. Losing contact with her had hurt and left a bit of sting in my chest any time I thought of her or her name was mentioned. Now that she’s pregnant, though, and we left things the way we did—despite that not being our faults—I don’t think we’ll ever be in a place where we can be like we were last year. 

While Micky still seems relatively comfortable around me, I can’t imagine her ever wanting anything more between us than co-parenting. If I were her, I’d never want anything more to do with me than that. I can’t help that I’m still head over heels for her, though. Mick and I burned bright and hot so quickly, and I’ve never been able to move past that, pathetically enough. I know I’ll be able to raise a kid with her without ever pushing my feelings onto her, but it’s going to be a long lifetime. 

I lay in the bed for a long time, watching the sun slowly come up before being quickly covered by clouds. Around half six I get up and go to take a shower before anyone else gets up so I’m not in anyone’s way. Mick and I have planned to leave at around eight in order to get to my mum’s house in time for breakfast. Mum promised me banana pancakes, which I’d usually be all over, but my stomach is twisting so hard with nerves that no food sounds appealing. I’ve never been so anxious in my life to tell my mother something. I’ve never had something so big to tell her, and I have the type of relationship with my mum where I told her about the first time I had sex nearly immediately after it happened. She’d been as cool about it as any mother with a fifteen year old son having sex with his girlfriend could be, but having sex with a girl you dated for months and getting a girl you dated for a week pregnant are two very different things. Even though we’re much older and independent adults, telling my mum she’s going to be a gran in a few months makes me nauseous. 

When I walk out of the bathroom, I nearly run straight into Micky, who’s standing outside her bedroom door, rubbing tiredly at her eyes with her fingers. She peeks one eye open at me and squeaks when she realizes I’m standing in front of her. I’ve only got a towel around my waist, since Tommy’s room and the bathroom are just across the hallway from each other. I give her a soft smile when her eyes dart up to mine, her cheeks suddenly red. 

“Morning,” I greet, moving to go back to the room to change.  

“Morning,” she reciprocates in a choked voice. I figure she’s still tired and sleep-ridden, so I don’t question it. She clears her throat and blinks before opening both eyes. “Gonna shower and get dressed, then we can go.”

I nod. “Sounds good. See ya in a bit.”

I wrap the towel in my hair once I click the lock behind me and go about getting ready for the day. It’s supposed to be just as cold today as it was yesterday, so pull a jumper over a t-shirt and step into a pair of blue jeans. I brush my hair, grimacing a bit at the knots I encounter. I know I need to get it cut—it’s been a good while since I’ve had a proper one—but I’m planning on donating it when it gets long enough, so I’ve got to wait it out. 

I make sure all my things are packed away in my bag before heading downstairs. From what I heard, Micky only took a short shower, so I’m not surprised when I see her standing in the kitchen beside her mother. Cindy’s got a soft smile on her face and one hand pressed to Micky’s stomach, Micky’s hand on top of her’s. By Micky’s giggle, I can tell that the baby is moving around. I want to go over and join; there’s something so amazing about feeling a baby moving within their safe little home, and when it’s your own baby, there’s something even more surreal and heartwarming about it. I don’t want to intrude on the moment, though, so I hang back, letting my bag fall softly to the floor by the island.

Micky looks up at me and smiles. “Come here. She’s going crazy in there.” She reaches her hand out and beckons me over, and when I get close enough, she takes my hand in her’s and presses it to a spot right by her mum’s.

As soon as I apply a little pressure, I can feel the rolling movements along with the sharp nudges against Micky’s skin. I can’t help the smile tugging my lips up, and I look at Micky as I feel her eyes on me. She’s smiling brightly at me, a sort of reassurance in her gaze that is trying to tell me that everything’s going to be okay.

A look at other modern rights might give us a clue about how well a new system would work. These rights started out as privileges, among them education and a paid retirement. Now education is not only considered a right, its a mandate. How well has it worked? American students attend school at least until their teen years, but 15-year-olds ranked 24th out of 29 countries in aptitude for real-life math problems, according to The Washington Post. Literacy surveys suggest one in five American adults is functionally illiterate. And taxpayers keep shelling out money to fund the system. Americans also cherish the right to retire  but we expect to be supported in our old age. Younger workers and employers are forced to support retirees, funding another right. I am still covered with my parents auto insurance and while my license is not suspended, my parents will not allow me to drive anymore if they find out about them. I attended traffic school for 1/5 citations, so it should not show up to my insurance company. Hello, I am writing from Tucson, Arizona and I have 2 teenage sons (16 & 17) that both live in Wayne County, Michigan (near Detroit). If they act up or talk about branching out into something else, I just have to remind them of where they get their affordable benefits and how they would lose this corporate pool if they were to go out on their own, work for a small business without benefits, work freelance or go back to school full time. What would you do in this situation?

My bf and I had been dating for 3 1/2 years, but broke up in January. In August, we decided to try again. Things were going good, however I noticed that I was putting in much more effort than he was. I pretty much felt unappreciated and that I was putting in more effort than he was. I was paying for our dates, doing all of the driving, making the plans, etc. I don’t mind doing those things, but I do mind when I’m the only one doing them or when he doesn’t even offer to do anything. I brought this up to him, and he said I was right and that he just didn't notice or really think about it. This convo was partly on the phone while driving to his house, and then we continued the convo once I got there. When I got there, I noticed he had texted me “I will take you out to dinner, what do you want.” I didn’t read it until I got to his house, and by then it was 10pm. He said that he went to the ATM in the 15 minutes in-between time that we didn't talk, which I thought was fishy for the time of night, but he insisted it was what he did so I believed him. I told him to just save the money for the next day since it was so late. We had a long talk about the situation, about me feeling unappreciated and as if I was putting in all the effort. How he would always say that he never had money, yet could buy cigarettes and drinks for him and his friends, and I told him what he spent money on was a matter of priorities. He refused to take money out of his savings, which he said he had $5000, and I understood that, it was just he would always blow his spending money the day before I would come out to his house. I wasn’t asking him to spend all of his money on me, just maybe take me to the movies or to dinner or something. Nothing extravagant, just the normal things people do in a relationship for each other.

The next day, I said I was going to get some coffee and he handed me a $20 bill and said "buy anything you want, don't worry about it." I thought it was nice that he was finally trying, even if it was just a cheap cup of coffee from Tim Horton’s. I come back to his house (he lives at his two friends’ house) and go to give him the change back, and he tells me to keep it for later that day. He tells me that we cannot do anything until a certain time because one of his friends wanted to talk to him about something. Eventually the friend came home, and she asked whether or not he wanted to talk with me in the same room or not, so they went out onto the front porch. Standing in another room, I slowly hear her raise her voice and hear the argument (I have terrible hearing, so I couldn’t make out exactly what was being said). She then comes into the room I'm in and tells me that he stole money out of her wallet and that he’s been doing shady things. I walked to where he was, and at first he said he "didn't want to tell me" what happened, but then I said what his friend had said, and he admitted it. I asked if the $20 he had given me earlier was what he took, and he said yes, so I gave him back the change and dumped out the rest of my coffee, realizing that it wasn’t even his money that bought me it. He said he was being kicked out of his friends' house now. At this point, I have no clue how to react, I had a million thoughts going through my brain, so I just stayed calm. He said that he didn’t know what to do at this point. I told him that all he can do is hold his head high and lay in the bed that he made.  We go inside to start packing his things up, and I notice he puts another $20 down on top of the change I had just given back to him. I said “I thought you said you only took the $20 you gave me” and he said something like he thought I was just referring to the change, which I think was kind of bullshit. I told him that he should personally give his friend the money back, not just leave it on the counter for her, and so he did. When he gave her the money back, she had said “you have stolen from me in many different ways,” and those words still run through my head for I wonder what she meant by that. Still, I helped him pack up his stuff into my vehicle, and drove him home to his parents. I helped him unload, and we walked around his property. He said he was sorry and that he knew he had messed up. He said he would understand if I broke up with him or needed a break. I told him that I didn’t know what to think at that point. That I wanted to still hang out with him, but I knew that I shouldn’t. So, I went home. Its been three weeks now and we have hung out twice. He has bought me flowers and dinner since, I just don't know what to feel. We haven’t been able to really talk about it in person because we have no private moments. I don’t want it to escalate into a fight, so I didn’t want to talk about it in public. Also, I don’t want to ruin the only time we get to spend together. He works midnights and lives about 30 minutes away and I work during the day so its hard to organize a day to hang out. We have been though so much together and this was supposed to be our "fresh start" after we broke up back in January. The first week after this all happened, he wasn’t putting any effort into the relationship, he claimed because he “figured I was going to leave him again.” I was the one calling him, texting him, trying to talk to him, and it hurt that he didn’t feel like fighting for us. I told him that he should be trying to make things up. He said that if I was going to leave him, then “what was the point.” That hurt. I explained that if he thinks that, he obviously can’t see my worth and that I shouldn’t have to prove myself to him. He eventually said that he loves me and will really try. Also, to try and understand why he didn’t just go up to the ATM and instead took someone else’s money, I asked if he really did have as much as he said in his saving’s account, and he said that he did and that he was just selfish.  He had flowers delivered to my house last week and took me to a diner, which I appreciated, but the whole time I felt anxious. He tried kissing me, I just don’t feel attracted to him anymore and I feel bad that i feel that way. I just don’t feel the same since he lied to me and fooled me. He lied to me about going to the store ATM, he sent me off with dirty money and pretended like he was treating me, and told me to keep the change for later. He really did fool me. It wasn’t just a single lie. He took advantage of my trust. And its not just about me, he screwed over his two friends that provided him a home and also helped him get a new job. He promised me so much at the beginning of our second relationship, and I really trusted his words, giving him the benefit of the doubt and also giving my all. Its hard to feel attracted/want to kiss someone who has lied to you and fooled you. I haven’t told him those things because I don’t want to offend him or make him feel insecure. 

He currently lives with a different friend who drives him to his job because he doesn’t have a car (which is why he stays there). I had moved him back into his parent’s house, and all he told them was that he and his roommates got into an argument and he left, which honestly irks me because he is lying to them. His family really likes me, and was so happy that we had gotten back together. I love them too, so it is hard to think of not seeing them again because it was hard not talking to them the first breakup. I know I was made to look like the bad-guy our first breakup, even though there were many reasons I had to break up with him in the first place. 

I just don’t know what to do. I had given him a second chance because when we first broke up, I had kind of done it unexpectedly I guess, and I just never felt like things were finished. There was so much left unresolved and I wanted to try one more time. I thought we had been and were being honest with each other. At the beginning of our second relationship, he had brought issues that he knew he had without me having to say anything, and I really thought that he had learned from mistakes and realized what needed to change, so I believed that he had matured. 

We talked about it this morning, and I told him that part of me resents him for lying to and fooling me. It came up because he noticed that I wasn’t being enthusiastic when he was telling me how good he was at his job the past few days. He claimed that I didn’t care, and I told him I did care, it was just hard to show enthusiasm because of the feelings I was having. He told me that I should show enthusiasm and that we should be supporting each other. That his life changed in a day and that he is just trying to get things together. I told him that I do support him and have said that I am happy he got a new job and all, but it was his choice that changed his life. He said that he “doesn’t have forever” for me to forgive him or get over my resentment. He brought up how much he struggled after I left him the first time and that I don’t really know how bad it was for him when we were apart. The conversation got cut short because I had to get lunch with my grandma at a scheduled time. 

We are supposed to go to a wedding reception this weekend, which I was not originally invited to, however he and his close family are really trying to get me to be able to go. They even offered to pay the bride/groom whatever it would cost to get me a seat. I know they love me and I love them, it just sucks because if I did end things, I look like the bad-guy once again. I have such a guilty conscience, and I felt terrible for ending things in the first relationship even though it was necessary.

I had an idea that my insurance was no longer valid due to it overdrafting from my account when i had no money. so i contacted the insurance company and now they will NOT re-instate the insurance policy due to the fact that i have had two bad overdrafts with them.
