Hey Taz Balance fans how do we feel about Lucretia striving to choose lives for her friends that she thought they could find joy and peace in (the beach with family for Merle, Raven's Roost for Magnus, a whole traveling cooking show for Taako) and checking up on them to see them safe and happy and using that as her only rock in her lonely and doomed mission to recover the relics, only to watch all three of their lives fall apart (Merle's lovless marriage + running out on his family, Governor Kalen destroying Raven's Roost and killing the love of Magnus's life and his father in law, the poisoning in Glamor Springs that led to Taako believing he'd killed 40 people and having to abandon his dream job). How de we feel about that gang.

Davenport knew he should have stayed on the ship.
They had had a hard enough time finding a place that was willing to help them with supplies after they pissed off the regional government by stealing the Light from them when negotiations failed, so they didn't have many provisions on board by the time the Hunger was due to arrive. When they finally found a town with a surplus of goods and kindhearted townsfolk willing to part with some of them, Davenport sent the whole crew to gather as much as they could in case they end up in an uninhabited planet again. He could see the sky beginning to darken as he watched his crew struggle to get back to the ship from on top of the deck, but he thought there was still enough time to get down there and help them load up the ship faster before having to take off.
Curse his naivete.
They've fully abandoned the supplies now and are just trying to make it back to the Starblaster, but they are quickly surrounded by Hunger. Their forward progress comes to a grinding halt just a dozen or so feet away from the ship, and the crew forms a circle to try and protect each other's backs.
“There's too many of them, Captain!” Barry yells as he fires off another spell.
“I've noticed!” Davenport says through gritted teeth. He dodges a sword and gets slammed by a fist, stumbling into Magnus.
Magnus grunts as one of the Hunger bounces off his shield. “Wait a minute. Cap'n'port, only one of us needs to make it to the ship, right?” He says. He swings his ax and cuts a long figure in half.
“Yes, preferably me because I'm the pilot.” Davenport blasts an ogre looking shadowy figure with Phantasmal Killer. That should keep them occupied for a while.
“Lucky you're just a lil' guy,” Magnus mutters.
“What did you just say?” Davenport asks. This doesn't seem like the time or place for this, but he has a feeling whatever is going to come out of Magnus' mouth next is going to be both something that he never would have expected from him and something he wouldn't like.
“I have an idea. Just get ready to cast a spell to slow down your fall if you can do something like that,” Magnus says.
“What-”
“Lup, cover me!” Magnus yells.
“What do you think I'm trying to do?” Lup yells back from right next to him. She tries to step in front of him anyway and blasts a cone of fire into the mob in front of them.
“Magnus, what are you-”
Before Davenport can finish his sentence, Magnus drops his ax and shield, picks him up, and spins with him a couple of times before launching him into the air like a ball. Davenport screams as he sails over the crowd of Hunger attacking his friends, but he's definitely getting closer to the ship now. Magnus must have critted on his throw too because he makes it a good distance over the Hunger before he starts falling, but at this rate, he'll only smack into the side of the ship instead of getting on it. He grasps his wand with a grip of death and points downward, and a blast of wind pushes him back up into the air. He angles it, so he's moving both up and toward the ship again. Then he lets himself fall onto the deck. He lands hard though, and he rolls a couple of feet before stopping.
Looks like he is lucky he's just a lil' guy.
Davenport springs to his feet and runs for the bridge, stumbling a bit in pain and disorientation. He makes it to the wheel and pulls on the throttle, and he launches the Starblaster into the sky like a dart. He weaves around tendrils and punches through the inky opal sky.
Come on come on come on!
He zips past the plane and into the space beyond the stars. Then things get a little shaky in a way that is growing to become familiar. His stance shifts just a little without his control, and he watches as white threads of light come together to stitch back together his crew all around the deck. He breathes a sigh of relief as they finish their transformation. His friends cheer and high five, and Davenport walks down from the bridge to join them. They may have almost nothing to work with in terms of supplies, but they're alive and safe.
And he doesn't have to kick Magnus' ass.

It's kinda funny to me how hard Davenport tried to keep his relationship with the rest of the crew Strictly Professional for the first like, 20 years, then by cycle 30ish he was everyone's dad. He couldn't escape the found family. I'm pretty sure at some point I started actually introducing him as my dad to any new friends I made which deeply confused some people because y'know. He was a gnome and I was an elf. When they asked if I was adopted I said no and he usually rolled his eyes and refused to go along with my cool joke. One time I walked in on him and Merle making out which is the only memory I'm glad Lucretia erased. Anyways Cap'n'port if you're out there I'd still die for you -Taako (#✨🌂🍽️)

dialogue prompt #40 with mags n lucretia would make my week <3 the concept of then excitedly telling each other mundane things that mean the world to them makes my heart explode <3
Prompt: "Today is gonna be the best!"
First of all I am SO sorry that this took so long to get to. June sure was a month. This maybe went a little differently than first intended but I hope you like it, and thanks so much for the ask!
--
Lucretia is resigned to the fact that it's going to be a bad day.
She's been stuck inside the ship with a broken leg for three days (and she would have had to take a fall right after Merle left for Parlay, of course that's how it happened), and she is already sick of it. It turns out staying put and reading all day is much less attractive when she doesn't have a choice in the matter.
At least she's not stuck in her room. The others have created a impressive setup for her in the lounge: Magnus adapted a desk for her so she could still write while sitting on the couch with her leg propped up, Taako and Lup have gathered a rather alarming amount of snacks and drinks and placed them within arm's reach; Barry contributed a small tower of books.
But as the others bustle about her getting ready for a recon mission, she is filled with a deep, shameful envy at their ability to move around, to walk, to go outside.
So she does what she always does in moments of distress and buries herself in a book. She's more successful than she expected--so much so that it takes several seconds to realize that Magnus is standing over her.
"Luce," he whispers. He has been careful about interrupting her reading ever since she accidentally whacked him with a complete history of Tesseralian cuisine and gave him a black eye.
She doesn't respond. Maybe if she pretends she is too engrossed in her book to hear him, he'll go away.
He pokes her gently in the shoulder.
"Luuuuuuce."
She can hear the undercurrent of excitement in his voice; clearly he has something to tell her, and he won't give up until he does. She sighs and sets down her book.
"What, Magnus?"
As soon as she looks up at him she can tell she was right--Magnus is practically bouncing up and down with excitement. He doesn't seem perturbed at all by the irritation in her voice.
"Guess what guess what guess what?"
Lucretia knows Magnus well enough to know that he doesn't need her to actually guess, or even really respond, so she just raises her eyebrows at him. This is invitation enough.
"It's snowing!"
She can't help perking up at that. They've come across snow on other planes, of course, but the novelty of it hasn't worn off yet. She still remembers the first time they saw it, how the whole crew stood transfixed, watching as frozen water floated gently down from the sky.
"Come on," Magnus says, "You shouldn't have to stay holed up here on a day like this. Come see!"
Lucretia glances at the crutches propped up on the end of the couch, and inwardly groans at the prospect of maneuvering her way up to the deck.
"I can carry you, if you want?" Magnus says.
She hesitates for only a moment, then nods. "All right."
Magnus scoops her up, blanket and all, and in just a few minutes they're stepping out onto the deck. Lucretia gasps a little as the cold air hits her, pulling her blanket tight around herself.
Davenport is already there, and Magnus deposits Lucretia in a chair next to him, under the awning so they're protected from the still-falling snow.
"Look at that," Magnus says, and Lucretia can't help smiling at the sheer child-like wonder in his voice.
Lucretia looks out over what just yesterday had been a somewhat depressing landscape of barren trees and brown grass. Now, it's been transformed, piles of snow covering the grass in blankets of shimmering white, the branches of the trees each delicately lines with their own tiny, fluffy snowbank. The sky is clear and the sun catches on the snow and makes the drifts shimmer and sparkle like piles of tiny diamonds.
"It's beautiful," she says, and for a moment, she forgets everything else, thoroughly enchanted by the scene before her.
"It certainly is something," Davenport says.
"Cap, we can put off the mission for a day, right?" Magnus says.
Davenport makes a noncommittal noise. "Well, I..."
But when Magnus gets like this, he will not be denied. "Come on, Cap'n'port. It's snowing! We could make a snowman and have snowball fights! And hot chocolate!"
Davenport sighs theatrically. "Fine," he says, and Magnus whoops. "I suppose. we can postpone one day. For the snow."
"Yess!" Magnus says, and Lucretia can't help smiling at his excitement. "Today is gonna be the best!"
And it is.
Magnus gathers the others and pulls them outside with varying degrees of excitement and grumbling. After bundling up and wrapping her leg securely so no snow will get inside the cast, he moves Lucretia's chair out to the field in front of the ship, and builds her a snow fort that gives her full cover if she leans her head forward to her knees. The snow is high enough around her chair that she can reach down to gather up handfuls of snow, but half the time she doesn't need to, because Magnus keeps her well supplied. He crows when she sends a snowball at Taako that gets him right at the nape of the neck--then they both have to dive for cover as Lup and Taako send a barrage of enchanted snowballs at their fort. Barry and Davenport bow out of the fight but instead work on crafting an impressive snowman referee.
When the snowman is built and the snow forts have been all-but demolished, they all troop back inside, red-cheeked and soaked through, and Taako makes a big batch of hot chocolate, and Lup pulls out the stew that has been simmering slowly away all day in a low oven, and there are arguments over who gets to use the shower first and who left their jacket full of snowmelt on the floor by the door, and eventually they settle at the table for dinner, warm and dry and heavy with a pleasant sort of exhaustion.
After dinner, Lucretia asks Magnus to move her chair back out to the deck, and they sit, wrapped in blankets and holding fresh mugs of hot chocolate close to their chests, and watch the gentle fall of snowflakes against the brilliant orange of the setting sun.
Lucretia leans her head against Magnus's shoulder, taking in the river of golden light the sun makes across the snow, tucking away the image as something to maybe paint later. She realizes that, apart from the times that she's had to move from one place to another, she's hardly thought about her leg all day.
"Hey, Magnus?" she says after a moment.
"Mm?" His response is soft; she thinks he might be almost asleep.
"Thanks for today."
He chuckles, and she can feel the deep bass of it in his chest. "Anytime, Luce."

Barold J. Bluejeans- Literally the ideal dad bod.
Merle-A dad bod that is rapidly hurtling towards grandpa bod, ya feel?
Magnus Burnsides- All muscle, but practical muscle that isn't perfectly chiselled.
Taako- Looks like your average skinny twink under all those robes, but is surprisingly well muscled (gotta have those gymnast muscles to do all those flips).
Davenport- Absolutely shredded. The Captain's ripped. Cap'n'port has an 8 pack and no I do not take criticism.

#28. "Hold me. Please." From this prompt list
(Talking someone down from suicide warning)
Magnus can't sleep. It isn't as surprising as it is annoying because most nights now, he spends hours staring up at the cold metal ceiling of his quarters in the Starblaster, trying not to think about the present, the past, the future, anything really. It's really hard though when the past one hundred years was filled with black reality consuming goo, the present is filled with world shaking weapons they made and sent out into the world and are being fought over in a never ending war, and the future... Well. No one can claim to know what the future holds, but signs point to not great.
Magnus sits up slightly to punch his pillow back into shape before rolling onto his side with an angry grumph. He closes his eyes and tries to keep his mind blank. It works for all of ten seconds before the image of Taako blowing up a tree in frusteration over not being able to find his sister pops into his head. He groans, sits up, and scrubs his face with both hands. Lucretia has to be asleep by now, so he can't check in on Fisher. The only other thing he can think to do is go out on the deck for some fresh air. His room is getting too claustrophobic anyway.
Magnus stumbles his way up to the deck then freezes. A small figure is sitting on top of the railing across the deck from him, teetering on its edge like they'll fall forward and off the deck at any second, which is an especially big problem because they are currently floating thousands of feet off the ground. Magnus' heart pounds in his chest as he carefully walks toward them, trying not to be too quiet, so he doesn't startle them into falling.
When he finally makes it within ten feet of the figure, he stops, and he can feel his heart leap into his throat. He is pretty sure he can talk down Merle easily enough. He didn't expect it to be Davenport.
"Hey, uh, Cap'n'port?" He calls out cautiously.
Davenport jumps slightly but grips the railing tight enough not to go falling off of it. He looks up at him, and Magnus can see his tears glisten in the moonlight. "Hey, Magnus. What are you doing up?"
"Couldn't sleep." Magnus tries to keep his voice even, but it still comes out a little shaky. "What uh... what are you doing up, Captain?"
Davenport looks back out over the land they are hovering over. "I couldn't sleep either."
Magnus takes a few cautious steps forward. "I can tell you have a lot on your mind right now. Do you want to talk about it?"
Davenport looks down below him and stays silent for a long time. His shoulders shake slightly as he starts quietly crying, and Magnus takes the opportunity to slowly walk up to him until he's standing next to him.
"What have we done, Magnus? What did... what did I do? I signed off on this idea, and now the whole world is dying anyway." Davenport takes an unsteady breath and looks at Magnus. "This morning someone used the Oculus to make a black hole and they destroyed so much and killed so many people. How is that any better than the Hunger? And Lup-" His voice cracks on her name, and he looks down at the world below him. "It's been months, and... I don't want to be the one to bring it up but... what if she's just gone?"
Magnus swallows thickly. "None of us knew things were going to end up like this. There was no way of knowing the relics would be this devastating and we'd end up starting a-" Magnus looks away for a second. Maybe he shouldn't be summing up everything they did wrong. "Well. Anyway. What I mean to say is, there was no way you could have known things were going to get this bad, and I know that if you did know, you would have found a way to at least mitigate some of the damage. We didn't have a lot of options when we came up with this plan, and for better or worse, it is working, and this is better than the Hunger. Because if the Hunger was here, there wouldn't be a world or even a plane to worry about whether it was killing itself off or not, and after it consumed this plane it would go do the same to the next and then the next and then the next, and there wouldn't be an end to it."
Davenport closes his eyes and grips the railing even tighter as Magnus continues. "And... I don't have any answers for where Lup is or if she's completely gone, but... I do know this." Magnus puts his hand over Davenport's hand, and the gnome looks up at him through watery eyes. "Lup wouldn't want you to give up. We can figure out a way to fix this; I know we can. It'll take time and effort, but if we could find a way to hide from the Hunger, then this should be way easier than that. And hopefully while we're figuring stuff out, we'll find her, or she'll come back. Personally, I'll bet that if she comes back on her own accord, she'll have all of this already figured out because she's had months to work on it wherever she is now, and there's no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what she's been thinking about too. And Taako will be so mad at her for disappearing for so long, and she and Barry will be gross everywhere on the ship again." Davenport laughs a little at that, and Magnus smiles slightly. "And she'll be back home. She has to come back. We'll find her." I hope.
Davenport sniffles. He swings his legs idly for a moment before he stops and sighs. "Okay. Can you help me down, Magnus?"
Magnus gives him a soft smile. "Of course, Captain."
He picks him up and puts him on the ground next to him, and they both sit down with their backs up against the railing. Davenport leans into Magnus' side and says, "Will you hold me? Please?"
Magnus nods, and wraps his arms around the smaller man and pulls him up against his chest. They stay like that for a while as they look up at the stars together. Davenport still wipes at his eyes every once in a while, and Magnus lets tears of relief slide silently down his face.
And in the background, unnoticed by the two men, Lucretia stands at the top of the stairs to the deck. She saw their interaction from afar, and she also cries silently with relief when she sees Magnus take their captain down safely from the railing. She could make sure that didn't happen again. She could take their pain away. She has to.
She can fix this.
I hope.

Seeing as you like TAZ and have the 7 birds in your FAQ- headcanons for the Dear Cap’nport plz?
Thank so much for your patience, anon!!
Captain Davenport
Gonna do all the questions so click the read more!
[Please don't send me more for this particular ask game, thank you!!]
1. on a scale of 1-10, how ticklish are they?
They are insanely ticklish, we're talkin like an eleven
2. where is their most ticklish spot(s)?
He has no idea, everything feels more intense than the last
3. which spots are they not ticklish?
His mustache is the only thing at this point, and he's sure that's not even true if someone tried hard enough
4. what is their laugh like?
Cap'n'port is just a manically giggling machine. He crumbles immediately into gasping, snorting laughter
5. do they enjoy tickling? if yes, is it a fun platonic/familial thing, or kinky thing to them, or can it be both depending on the circumstance?
He doesn't hate it, and he gets jealous of the others stopping their playing when he comes by, and maybe he feels less stressed afterward
6. are they more often a lee or ler, generally?
He was an unwitting lee, but after he learns illusion magic in cycle 82 , he finally is able to defend himself in some capacity and utilize magic to give him the opportunity to unleash some tickle-wrath on his crew
7. who is someone in their life that they tickle often?
Merle is the one he sorta learns how to tickle with, even if the older dwarf isn't super ticklish, since he's so patient. But after learning what to do, and especially after cycle 82, he tickles Magnus and the Twins relentlessly.
8. who is someone in their life that they get tickled by often?
The other six birds, natch
9. does the word “tickle” or any variation of embarrass them?
Yes, 1 billion percent yes! He's a very serious gnome, and the word is so silly
10. are they embarrassed about their ticklishness, and do they try to deny/hide it?
Again, terribly so, but he doesn't really have time to deny it since he learns he's ticklish from and by the dorks he'd try to hid it from.
11. would gentle tickling or rough tickling affect them more?
It all gets to him but he can handle light tickles a smidge longer
12. is there a specific spot that they enjoy being tickled, either exclusively or more than other spots? what is it?
When done gently!!! he enjoys the back of his neck being tickled. Like, it gives his whole body butterflies in the best sorta way
13. is there a spot that they can’t stand to be tickled, either because it’s just too sensitive, or it’s uncomfortable/painful/etc? what is it?
He's literally too ticklish and can't stand being tickled for long periods of time - it's just far too much for him. But a few minutes here and there, every few days or so, he can manage.
14. would they ever purposefully bug a friend/partner/sibling into tickling them, and if so, how would they go about it?
Merle is really the only one he feels comfy enough to do this with since Merle knows Davenport's limits extraordinarily well. And he usually does so during their game nights
15. does teasing affect them?
My poor Cap'n'port is a bumbling mess when teased, it's almost worse than the tickling itself

Magnus: Look, you two are giving up too easily. Now, Taako, pretend I'm Merle.
Taako: And who am I?
Magnus: You're Taako.
Merle: Can I be Davenport?
Magnus: No! Wait, why?
Merle: He's a good leader.
Magnus: Would you butt out?
Taako: Hey, you can't talk to Cap'n'port like that!
