Dying dying dying to know the full set of voicelines for Resplendent Grima but in the meantime I guess I will simply think about the two they previewed...
The thing is, you know, Grima seems to bluffing again, because uh... "It is only natural the weak serve as kindling for the strong. Muspell's ideology aligns with my own." Grima my beloved that is NOT your ideology.
I mean, at first glance it's pretty similar to what Halloween m!Grima says...
"Those without the will or power to resist can only be crushed underfoot. Such is the nature of the harvest." But... Grima is not saying that this is how things SHOULD be, only that this is how he views the world: as a horrible zero-sum game where those without power are crushed by those who have it.
Like, Muspell (the dragon) comes across as pretty straightforward and unironic in his callousness towards mortals and in his belief that it would be good for them all to just fight to the death. But no matter how many lines the various Grima alts have disparaging humans and talking about crushing them like worms, Grima also makes it clear that they do care. They care a lot and do not like that the world is the ruthless place they see it as.
We know Grima's REAL ideology, because legendary Grima presents it to us.
"One person's satisfaction means another must suffer. That is the truth of all worlds. But my power of destruction is the one true equalizer."
The world that Muspell desires is in fact the one that Grima would put to an end. Grima HATES Muspell's ideology. Saying it "aligns" with his is only true in the sense that Grima believes that that harsh and depressing way of life is inescapable reality.
(Though... "If you think there's someone out there capable of leading the world with such high-minded ideas of love and bonds... I'd love to meet them." is very interesting in the context of the Kingdom of Muspell because... well, Laegjarn and Laevatein are in many ways quite similar to Emmeryn and Chrom, don't you think? And they are the ones who would be guiding the nation. Muspell the dragon says he "knows nothing" of the kingdom because "mortals are of no consequence" so... if Grima were to visit, it would be the royals he would see.)
But it does make me wonder if Grima is perhaps... a little envious of Muspell's perspective? Because saying that "a kingdom that consumes all with roaring flame" is "an ideal to strive for" suggests that... he's not there yet himself. That he's looking at the callousness of Muspell and Surtr and thinking that he needs to care less and destroy more...

do you ever think about how often steve is hit with a surge of want while simply looking at danny? how many times over the years he had to resist the overwhelming desire to kiss him?
when you think about how steve actually has been in love with danny for literal years and held back all this time it becomes funny/sad when danny calls him an animal, accuses him of poor impulse control.
how often steve has had to resist the urge to haul danny in by the waist and kiss the daylights out of him? especially when he is being particularly bratty or undermining steve's authority and riling him up on purpose. ('you want aggressive aggressive?')
not that it is any easier in the quiet moments when danny is being his generous self, good father-friend-partner, and steve is overwhelmed by a need to cradle his face and gently press their lips together because words aren't adequate to pour out the sheer affection and appreciation he is feeling in that moment.
the absolute draconian levels of self-control steve must have not to act on his feelings when he's a man of action and jumping off a cliff would always be his first instinct which means resisting it is going against his very nature.
how many times has he held on by a thread, the fear of messing up what they have the only thing stopping him? which is saying a lot because steve isn't afraid of anything else, death being less scary and preferable to losing danny.
what if one day he finally slips? too many buttons pushed. chain yanked one too many times. does he not realize what he's doing to me? no one has the ability to make him lose equilibrium quite like danny.
perhaps he can't hold back any longer, he just has to shut that pretty mouth up somehow, consequences be damned. so he finally pulls danny in, too riled up to realise what it means until later that he's met with no resistance.
danny goes willingly, a self-satisfied smirk just barely gracing his face before steve wipes it off with his mouth. he doesn't even have the energy to be surprised when the only words he hears after being able to breathe are
'what took you so long?'

no but I legit don't think I'll ever shut up about the incredible narrative arc in tnc temptation we have our protagonist go from a place of complete passivity in devil by the window - "I feel my body drifting into the sky" - to then in farewell neverland where he makes a conscious, affirmative choice to take action - "Neverland, my love, I bid you farewell, and I'm free falling, it's time to fall, it's time (falling, falling)" like that imagery of levitating with complete submission and deference to then shifting by the end of the album into action and bravery is such a chef's kiss narrative choice like DO YOU SEE

"Sworn to the sword that will kill you - how's that for devotion?"
-
Sometimes you make an NPC who just has vibes and you have to make a painting inspired by the 3 of Swords tarot card about it to feel satisfied (plot twist! You are never satisfied). Antiope of the Theros campaign I'm DMing is a fascinating exercise on what happens when what you are bound to and what you live for happen to be the same person thing. No spoilers tho! I have players watching.

just finished the first season of doctor who (by which I mean the 2005 one because I'm lazy and didn't bother watching the classic show) and I'd just like to say I understand why 2000's tumblrinas were insane about this but I could have been insane about it in much more unique and interesting ways I think

New Character !! Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy !!
Fighting RIGHT off the gate oh my god i got jumpscared so hard.
"Your Chorus"-- So it's definitely a demon they're fighting. I wonder if Hush is some kind of demon as well. I wonder what an "Articulate" is in relation to the Chorus and D(a)emon kind.
WHY IS THE LISTENER HERE WHAT IS HAPPENING. How did you find these gentlemen.
Reticuli calls him a "Freak," what could he possibly be then ! Why are people after him ! What is he doing !
The COOL contrast between Hush in the Listener's head versus Reticuli speaking to them. That scratched my brain. Very cool and satisfying.
Hush sounds so nonchalantly sing-songy, even with the little echo in his voice. It's haunting. I love it.
Are demons known to manipulate the Spellsong ? I didn't think they could. Do demons have Cores, too ? Perhaps i don't know as much as i thought about them.
"You have no idea the kind of man you saved, what i'm capable of, what i'm going to do." Wow, that isn't ominous at all !
At least he doesn't want to hurt us, that's probably good ! I hope ! He does talk about how saving him was a Mistake, but surely nothing bad can come out of this-- can it ?
NOT a demon ??? NOT a human ?? ... not a robot. So he is some secret third (or fourth) thing. That's pretty exciting ! YO WHAT did he DO to us that was so LOUD-- the Complicated Answer sucks actually.
He calls us "Doc" !! That's kind of cute !!! They seem to be adept in healing, even if that isn't their occupation, so maybe we get a Healer listener ? That'd be sick.
I will admit, his subtle flirting did enchant me. Even if it was a Little scary. He seems kind of nice ! ... maybe !
--
I've seen some people say he's somehow connected to the Sovreigns-- be that he Is one, or was created By them for something specific. I think that's a pretty cool idea ! It's a nice tie-in to Vega. Maybe they'll interact at some point !
I don't think he could be a Shade, everything we know about them seems to be more Feral and Unthinking. Unless a mass amount of deaths have gone under the rug, i don't know how a Shade could gain that kind of consciousness/humanity. But all that's interesting to think about as well !
Somehow i'm hoping for some secret Third thing.... either way I'm excited to learn more about all of this !!! :o)
