Perhaps "bluffing" is not the most accurate term, in that it implies deliberate deceit, but what I mean is more... Well, like one of Grima's castle lines (which don't change with the Resplendent attire; only the voice lines change) is "Rite after rite, and still my memories refuse to return. This is beyond infuriating… Maybe I'll go start a war to cheer myself up." and that's such an assholish way to say "I'm upset and want to be distracted" even though that's what he means. He's just... He's Grima-ing it up a little.

And I do think you make a good point in your tags about the localization, because... Okay, with the understanding that I do not understand Japanese and had to use Google Translate for this...

"Of course the weak will perish... I agree with Muspell's thoughts." is 100% true and accurate to Grima in my mind. He would say this. This is clearly what he feels in his heart. OF COURSE the weak will perish. There is no point in hoping for anything else. But the flair the localization adds gives me the impression that he is trying to sound edgy on purpose in the English lines. Because it IS in character based on his other localized lines to do that.

The thing is, you know, Grima seems to bluffing again, because uh... "It is only natural the weak serve as kindling for the strong. Muspell's ideology aligns with my own." Grima my beloved that is NOT your ideology.

I mean, at first glance it's pretty similar to what Halloween m!Grima says...

"Those without the will or power to resist can only be crushed underfoot. Such is the nature of the harvest." But... Grima is not saying that this is how things SHOULD be, only that this is how he views the world: as a horrible zero-sum game where those without power are crushed by those who have it.

Like, Muspell (the dragon) comes across as pretty straightforward and unironic in his callousness towards mortals and in his belief that it would be good for them all to just fight to the death. But no matter how many lines the various Grima alts have disparaging humans and talking about crushing them like worms, Grima also makes it clear that they do care. They care a lot and do not like that the world is the ruthless place they see it as.

We know Grima's REAL ideology, because legendary Grima presents it to us.

"One person's satisfaction means another must suffer. That is the truth of all worlds. But my power of destruction is the one true equalizer."

The world that Muspell desires is in fact the one that Grima would put to an end. Grima HATES Muspell's ideology. Saying it "aligns" with his is only true in the sense that Grima believes that that harsh and depressing way of life is inescapable reality.

(Though... "If you think there's someone out there capable of leading the world with such high-minded ideas of love and bonds... I'd love to meet them." is very interesting in the context of the Kingdom of Muspell because... well, Laegjarn and Laevatein are in many ways quite similar to Emmeryn and Chrom, don't you think? And they are the ones who would be guiding the nation. Muspell the dragon says he "knows nothing" of the kingdom because "mortals are of no consequence" so... if Grima were to visit, it would be the royals he would see.)

But it does make me wonder if Grima is perhaps... a little envious of Muspell's perspective? Because saying that "a kingdom that consumes all with roaring flame" is "an ideal to strive for" suggests that... he's not there yet himself. That he's looking at the callousness of Muspell and Surtr and thinking that he needs to care less and destroy more...

Consider: post awakening ritual Chrom gets fancy Dragon Eyes as one of his new minor draconic traits.

The slit pupils this comes with have pros (buffed night vision and depth perception) and cons (penalty to peripheral vision), but most importantly, it means that in dim conditions or when Chrom is excited, he does THIS

GRIMA WASN'T EVEN IN THE GAME AT THE TIME

And like, Tempest Trials were really hard for me back then (I didn't start paying attention to the game until I summoned m!Grima on his release banner in 2018), so there's a good chance I wouldn't have even seen this map, but even if I did, I hadn't finished SoV at that point and I also hadn't developed Grima brainrot yet so it would have meant nothing to me...

But... I care now and I have thoughts about it???

Chrom WAS in the game at the time, so he conceivably could have been deployed in this Tempest Trials. Imagine the look on Grima's face if he were to ever drop the words "Thabes Labyrinth" in conversation. Why do you know what that is, Chrom? What do you mean you WENT there?

Chrom surely would have noticed the huge Grima Brand on the floor, but... do you think he knew what it meant when he saw it (It's not entirely clear where OG Prince Chrom is in Awakening's timeline; the Grima plotline might not have happened to him yet). Regardless, I think he'd put two and two together at SOME point...

Idk, I'm just reeling at the fact that it's completely possible for Chrom to have canonically seen Grima's birthplace. I never even realized...

I forgot did I ever ask for chrom facts? I remember asking for Roy and Marth facts. Anyways If I already have then tell me facts for a character of your choosing

This one is surprisingly more difficult as i've made so much unhinged Chrom content that i need to remember what is blatantly my five layers of headcanons and what isnt. uhm.

Chrom's base Falchion (legendary sword passed down for generations) has the same might as an iron sword. It's an unbreakable iron sword.

Despite Robin being the literal self insert, Chrom is the only character force-deployed on every map, and the only character with convoy access

Chrom (and male Robin) is the only dad in awakening to have a child associated with him. All other kids are associated with the mother instead.

Chrom is very clumsy. When he was a kid, he smashed a wall while training, and it never got fixed, so he and Lissa presumably covered the incident up by moving shrubbery over the hole.

This smashed wall is a legitimate plot point as it allows Lucina to inflitrate Ylisstol Castle and stop Chrom from being permanently wounded by an assassin

Speaking of Lucina, he really like. Post timeskip he's like, 25 MAX, and father of an Infant, so when a like, 18yr old girl shows up and says he's her dad. He's just like. Ok. My daughter now. Truly dad of the year. All his shortcomings as a father are External Circumstances he had no influence over ok

Literally all Chrom seasonal units are so mad to be seasonal units. Chrom hates wearing anything besides his stupid onesie. My respect tbh. I get it.

I fear if i say more I'm going to get into deranged headcanon territory. I've written enough fanfic abt him tbh.

My fav thing abt his characterization is that he sees himself as a tool of violence yet deeply admires pacifism. It's like. He loves peace in theory. When its personified by his sister. But he just. doesn't know how to put it into practice.

This is especially notable in his first meeting with Gangrel, where Gangrel has a hostage and is demanding Emmeryn negotiate. And Chrom just immediately gets aggressive amd escalates the situation into a fight. Yeah sure he was being goaded, but the guy has a surprisingly short temper!

It's a very inch resting dualism and I am a total sucker for everytime fanworks do more with that than the game does. Bcuz most FE protags. Love peace obviously. But they see violence as the means to the end, they still see themselves as holier than thou, whereas Chrom really doesn't. Death is death. Gives him flavor.

It's blatantly obvious in his behavior and skills that he was NOT meant to be the leader. Most FE protags had their parents die to become king, but he had his SISTER die. He would've been behind any of HER heirs (if she had any) in the line of succession and probably only ran a militia because he never expected to be king at all. He can't negotiate for shit on a political level, only convince people on a personal one. He's very blunt and honest (...autism swag...), and not cut out for intrigue, as well as easily manipulated.

For real he would he fucked without Robin.
