I really liked the new Mean Girls movie. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised how creative some of these dance numbers were. I had a good time.

I will say tho, and this might just be because I haven’t seen the original in a long while, but it feels like some of the edge was taken off. Like they were certainly not nice girls and they definitely need to learn what healthy friendships are but they weren’t Mean girls. Not like the original anyways. Idk, it also might be the glam of the musical numbers but it felt softer than I remember. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something I miss from earlier eras of the creative side of the internet was things just being unabashedly low-budget. Just all unashamedly amateur, unprofessional, ‘I don’t own a good camera but I have a story to tell you’, ‘I can’t afford a good mic but I have a song to sing for you,’ ‘I don’t have any kind of background in editing or lighting and I only just picked up this guitar last Tuesday but here’s an entire musical me and my friends wrote about our favourite book, we filmed it on a potato and put it up on YouTube in ten minute segments because we thought it was pretty funny.’

#everything felt so much less like Content then #and as someone who wants to share creative stuff online #it’s now incredibly daunting thinking about doing that bc #especially as a disabled person who can’t work full time #it feels almost impossible to extricate art from being Content #like there’s this immense pressure to produce things that could pass as professionally produced by a team of educated people #and to make smart decisions so that somehow eventually you can profit off your art #and instead of it being a ‘hey look at my silly little song’ it becomes #competing in an over saturated market already dominated by the nepotism afforded by wealth and connections #and it feels like it would very difficult not to measure my personal satisfaction with how a certain piece of art turned out #by how much attention it got online #even though I genuinely have zero desire to be famous and it sounds like a complete nightmare #anyway I’m gonna have ice cream for dinner how about you guys #hmp42

Idk if this is just me, but does it seem like the Hunger Games movies left out most of the stuff about food in general?

Maybe I just noticed this because in my first read I was worried that all of them were cannibals, but like… in the movies it seems like they were never actually that hungry. Like, we know that Katniss and Gale have to hunt, and that Peeta gave Katniss the bread, but a lot of the details about just how hungry they were to get to those choices were just… gone. And when they’re in the Capitol on the Victory Tour, they mention the vomit-inducer but it was more of an offhand thing. What got me especially though is that in Mockingjay Pt. 2, their time with Tigris appears to be much shorter, but also… she doesn’t feed them! And from what I remember that was fairly significant in the books, especially considering the position they were in.

In the books, hunger was the driving force of the vast majority of decisions they made. Katniss literally spent a good chunk of her first games desperately searching for water—Haymitch rewarded their performances with food—Katniss described every single thing she eats and primarily characterizes new places based on their food (the Capitol and District 13 especially). TBOSAS supports this even further when you see how even people in the Capitol were starving in the aftermath of the war—that’s why sponsors were added to the game!

I just—the whole series is literally about starvation and what it means to be human, but the movies just focused on love and war.

So a very unique purchase I made during hiatus… a pair of antique prosthetic arms I basically saved from being sold as lamps?? They were most likely made between 1900-1930, though one professor I reached out to says they might specifically be WWI era or thereabouts which is grand cos I’ve been getting very into WWI medicine, specifically prosthetics and plastic surgery, these past two years. Definitely a great addition to my collection regardless! They are two left arms produced for two different people but by the same maker in France and came with a swivel joint and hook, ring, and brush attachments.

it’s so frustrating to be looking at products for medical reasons and have all of the info on them be based on a healthy persons health. I don’t want to know which heart rate monitor watch doodad is best for working out and exercise - I want to know which one will give me the most accurate heart rate and sleep info. I especially don’t want to know which meal replacement shakes are best for weight loss - I want to know what I can use to make sure I’m getting enough nutrients when I’m too nauseous to eat.
