welcome to the twentieth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

Keith and Lance go undercover (sort of) at General Iverson's gala to steal back an Altean artifact the general stole while treasure-hunting. Keith's job? Sneaking away in the middle of the party to find the artifact. Lance's job? Looking pretty in a dress.

love love LOVE adventure fics this shit ROCKS. voltron?? thief archeologists whose main goal is to steal artefacts from rich asshole collectors and return them to where they came from?? iconique!! klance playing the pretty distrction?? iconique moreso!! 

2. ring my bell by @dumdum692 [EXPLICIT]

And granted, Keith has always been a sore spot for him in this way; Lance has always felt at odds with his domesticated temperament, and Keith holds absolutely none of that. Keith doesn't give two whopping shits about getting pimples, or if Stacy in English class thinks he has bad breath. Keith isn't standing zombie-eyed in the purple lights of a party, plotting woe-is-me narratives of his own melancholia and loneliness, gazing detachedly into a red Solo cup full of jungle juice - he just is, and that's always made Lance, in equal parts, devastatingly embarrassed and devastatingly horny.

Sadly, this scale weights significantly more towards the horny end as of late, because Keith is developing quite a few, very distinctly Galra characteristics, and it's driving Lance absolutely buck fucking nuts.

this fic is a proud truther of two important things: a) lance’s type is literally anyone who can kick his ass and look good doing it, and b) lance has a big vocabulary entirely so he can be as melodramatic as possible whenever he so pleases. and i for one am thankful for its service.

3. Cross My Path by @wittyy-name [EXPLICIT]

Lance owns a witch themed cat cafe that rescues black cats. Each one has a unique collar and color coded name to help tell them apart. He's not supposed to play favorites, but he's already adopted his favorite, Red, as his own. Cold and distant to everyone, Red is extremely affectionate to Lance. Needy. Clingy. Protective. But Lance doesn't mind. He makes Lance's home a little less lonely. He's a little weird, but aren't all cats? He loves his baby boy, and he's eternally grateful for the day that little black fluff ball crossed his path.

Lance doesn't think twice about Red's odd quirks. That is, until he wakes up with a naked stranger in his bed.

And hey! Turns out Red is actually a witch named Keith who's been cursed to be a cat for twenty years. A really hot witch who's still very affectionate towards Lance.

any fic that’s tagged with catboy keith is a winner in my book tbh. and this fic is AMAZING the entire concept is unbelievably cool and the storyline is adorable!! also healthy relationship boundaries and expectations for the win!! plus rough sex also!!

Keith couldn’t feel his legs. Upon further realization, he couldn’t feel his arms either, or his hands. He could, however, feel Lance’s hands, and they were all over him, running up and down his chest in inspection, tilting his chin this way and that, pulling him up from the floor where he figured he’d landed probably because his knees had just given out on him.

“Stupid,” he heard Lance say. “You blew out your legs.”

But before Ava can turn to run away from the door, it swings open to reveal Sara Lance standing in front of her. Her hair is bundled into a messy bun on the top of her head, two stray strands framing the sides of her face. She’s wearing a SCHS soccer hoodie and skin tight shorts that only come halfway down her thighs, revealing muscly, freckled legs that Ava has to work very hard not to look at. Her feet are adorned with grey fluffy socks which Ava is avoiding calling adorable in her head in fear of starting to associate Sara with any word remotely cutesy and affectionate.

Sara’s expression is genuinely surprised for several moments, eyes wide and startling blue. Her lack of makeup and the dim, golden light of the corridor highlight the freckles that are littered across her face.

Her eyelashes are really blonde, thinks Ava. How did I never know her eyelashes were blonde?

since u wont answer my ask about which fics u don't like....what are some fics you LOVE that no one else likes??? hehehe

Ha! Damn straight, I won’t answer that question! Opinions are dangerous things in some circles... and as it turns out, this is one of those circles! ;)

That being said, there are a few fics I absolutely adore that others don’t like as much -- and honestly, that’s fine too! I hate this notion that we should all like the exact same content and offer the same boiler-plate, glowing praise. I don’t think I could exist in a community that wasn’t focused on concrit and improvement versus everyone being into the exact same things 100% of the time. Variety is the spice of life, as they say! :D

So that being said... here is my totally just-for-fun, not-from-a-place-of-authority, not-in-any-particular order list of fics I like that other people usually don’t. Obviously, your mileage may (and should) vary... I’m just giving what is strictly my opinion based on what I’ve heard around the interwebs!  

For starters, @jenoramaca and I love Things You Shouldn’t Do at Christmas by a kissinacrisis, but almost everyone else I’ve recommended it to disagrees for some reason or other. I think this fic very realistically conveys what a young couple might go through, especially if said couple was forced into a huge responsibility/the enormity of a lifelong relationship at age 17. 

In that vein, I looooove Compromise: A Love Story by femmenerd. It features one of my all-time favorite depictions of Ginny and it’s inspired a lot of my headcanons. However... I’ve been told point-blank I’m wrong for liking this fic (?) because Ginny would “obviously” want to get married right away and because Harry would never be an auror. (And don’t get me started on that topic. Just don’t.)

By now, it should also be no surprise that I’m obsessed with the Tea Time series by frombluetored. In particular, I lurrrrve Set Fire to Our Homes, but some wrong people think it’s too long. And to these wrong people, here is what I say: I’m far from an expert, but I’ve been reading Harry Potter fanfiction for almost 20 years of my life. Believe me when I tell you that I’ve absolutely never cared about OCs as much as I care about the ones in this series. It’s legitimately baffling that anyone could walk away from someone as adorable and damaged as Caden Rowle, but what can I say? We can’t all be perfect!

Ok, this last rec usually gets a lot of hate... but I’ve been building to it for a reason. I’ve defended this fic on almost every corner of the internet -- and if this is the hill I die on, so be it, world!

My favorite fic ever is Buried Treasure and Transmogrify by Rienna Hawkes. Some wrong people think it’s too sexually graphic and that it features too much Snape and wahhhhh, but I... don’t actually care? Like, you’re absolutely entitled to think that and it’s your opinion, but I will vehemently disagree, because I effing love everyone in this story and it’s beautiful and perfect and I can’t.

Annnyway, outside of @floreatcastellumposts (and a few others), there just aren’t many authors who check every single box for me in terms of aligning with my headcanon. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of authors I love — and a lot of authors I’m happy to call myself friendly with! It’s just rare for me to find someone who syncs with me 100% of the time. And I’m sure many of you don’t agree with my headcanons, either, which is a-ok! I’m just explaining that this fic matches for me!

So yeah, for me, BT&T is one of those rare unicorns. (And if you’ve read it, you will understand why I’m chortling like a child over the word unicorn.) I first read BT&T when it came out in the mid-2000s (on Checkmated, no less!), and when I got back into fanfic a couple of years ago, I was beyond pleased that it was still available. 

I’m not sure if that rambling was clear enough, so please allow me to explain the depth of my insanity when it comes to Buried Treasure and Transmogrify.

I love this fic so much that I’ve memorized entire passages. I love it so much that I regularly (and fruitlessly) message the author... who has not existed on the internet in almost four years. It’s a legitimate tragedy that the sequel, Heroes for Ghosts, has not been updated since September 2015. Imo, we will forever be without the “true” story of how Harry was made, because to me, this series is so achingly beautiful that (with very few exceptions) it’s how I envision Marauder canon. 

I’m not exaggerating when I say this fic taught me how to write romance novels. I’m also not exaggerating when I say that I used to sneak out of my planning block in high school to read it in the library because I’m old and computers didn’t have profanity filters back then. 

So yeah. There is a certain degree of sentimental attachment... but truly, I adore this one. Your headcanon might totally disagree with how the characters are portrayed, but you still have to appreciate the depth of research that went into this fic. It’s a work of art.

Yes, Jewel is my real name although my parents admit I was supposed to be named elizabeth but changed their minds last minute after I was born how cute and I’m currently in university. I study political science and japanese for those wondering (because yes, I am japanese and it’s helpful when you live in hawaii to have that degree yk?). Johnny Suh, it’s official. Don’t know how to explain, but I love everything about him. In the end, it’s always him. damn i sound like y/n thoughts but istg it’s true From SM Rookies to NCT Life to MV behinds, he’s the one. But I’ve also come to realize that I find myself most relatable to him as a person and I think that’s why no one else can trump him wow narcissist much jewel It’s kind of just my gut feeling. It also helps that hes the fluffiest tall, muscular tight booty hottie on the planet. Not gonna lie, I HAD IT BAD FOR MARK LEE still do and yet Johnny overcame that. If mark lee were my first love, johnny is my soulmate.

THE Jung Jaehyun. For reasons that need no explanation. but ill give it anyway smh

After watching the performance of herin and jaehyun singing a whole new world I knew that was it for me. (I still watch it once a month for my jaehyun-related health and to honor SM’s biggest loss, seo herin and ji hansol but thats for another conversation) back to jaehyun His vocals are unique in NCT and bring a nice color to their songs, the man looks good in literally anything, and I’ll probably say this about every member, but I love his dance style--body rolls for days sis. Definitely my ideal type, which my boyfriend is 100% aware of; no secrets in my relationship ofc which explains the wreckage. Pretty sure 81% of the fandom gets wrecked by him daily, so I think I’ll stop here. 

NCT Dream 

Renjun.  why? i just think he’s neat but no really, it was this performance (ok actually this got me ALL SORTS OF WRECKED) and this fancam that had me falling in love with him but were gonna ignore the fact that I get bias wrecked DAILY by all the other members  GOd-tier vocals, personality for daysssssss, variety KING HUANG RENJUN. Safe to claim that I go into renjun feels about 3x a week. Check my twitter for proof. +dnyl renjun was a blessing and I sometimes cant believe that it actually happened. How do I explain?? He’s literally the best boy, but when he gets all worked up....let’s stop there before I have to go to confession again.

But for fun, lets list why I have biased every dream member at some point shall we? (in no particular order) Dream might just be my ult group, songs always bop, members at star quality 

mark- yes i am including mark bc he was the reason i even started stanning dream dreamies leader since mmc days, mentor, A1 rap skills, ad libs go crazy, unparalleled dancing style, hardest worker, cutest watermelon advocate ever, all around amazing person can you tell he used to be my ult? + he’s a good christian boy and my catholic *ss has to confess my sins for being a simp for him 24/7

chenle- vocal GOD, most steady live vocals in kpop, laugh to die for

jeno- i cannot resist his eye smile i wanna cuddle and onstage charisma-2:54 “let’s goooooo” and i alskfdfjlkdldkfa. 

jaemin- “other than my members, i don’t have any friends” and yet he’s literally the most caring and wonderful little puff in existence fight me pls dont im a pacifist 

heachan- idk why but donghyukie feels like he could be my best friend and also cant stop staring at him in their dance practices his body proportions are unreal and his vocal ad libs?? don’t even get me STARTED on heachans vocals

jisung- he is my son, but also my son’s vocals?? MWAH that voice got me second guessing if he’s really my son

Ten Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul another member where it kinda just....happened? In the end I was like “damn, when did you sneaky bugger get in my heart?” He’s got a similar vibe as Johnny AND DO NOT COME FOR MY THROAT FOR SAYING THAT THATS MY OPINION Like Johnny, I see myself in Ten. There are so many reasons why I love Ten, so I’ll make it simple and provide them to you. 

Reason 1 - Performance/dance  he just hit different, he’s THAT good. Reason 2 - vocals the amount his vocals has improved?? UNMATCHED. Reason 3 - INTELLECTUAL (still trying to find the clip of him talking about different kinds of love) Reason 4 - multi-lingual KING ok so this vid is him struggling in mandarin, but imagine, you speak thai and english and learn korean to debut and all of a sudden your agency says “ok learn chinese now.” MANDARIN IS ONE OF THE HARDEST LANGUAGES TO LEARN. Reason 5 - bad b*tch he just radiates bad bitxh energy in everything he does, and I appreciate a bad bitxh

BUT I love wayv’s chaotic energy and chemistry so much that I literally love them all dreamies watch out

This specific dance really allowed winwin to shine even though ten is my bias. It really allowed others to see the fruit of his classical training even in modern dance which he never trained in. Not gonna be repetitive and SCREAM  say that he’s underrated, because we all know that already. Just show winwin some love, ok? thank you.

And so finally, we’ve reached the end. Phew, this took me almost 5 hours to put together because I definitely got carried away. For those who made it all the way to the end, thank you, I love you.
