With the holidays coming up this is everyone’s reminder to

Ask little kids if they’d like a hug first

If they say no, verbally affirm the reasonable shit you just heard. “You said you wouldn’t like a hug. We won’t hug.”

You don’t even have to redirect with a high five, even though that’s fine. Touching isn’t for everyone.

Do not say upsetting things like “where is my hug?” Clown, you don’t own hugs.

It is fine to model consent by placing boundaries on touch. “Let’s wash your hands before we cuddle.” “I’m leaving this couch if you continue to yeet your foot into my pregnant belly.” “that was fun but I’m going to take a break now.”

Touchy children are not inherently sweeter. Love languages exist at any age.

Some kids like touch but not eye contact. A hug from behind is a good one or “let’s close our eyes and squeeze really tight. Ready?”

I’m dead f*ing serious there are people who want your physical affection so badly but need you to modify your approach. Just like there are people who want to get into buildings but need ramps.

Don’t comment if a kid shows affection to another adult but not you. They’re weird like that but you don’t have to make it weirder.

But I've been meaning to ask you, if you are planning to write more chapters for Noticing. You are my favourite Hinny author, the way you write their relationship is so flawless, it fills in the missing moments I never got from the book, and your writing makes me ache with the beauty of it all. You have a gift, so please never stop writing. These recent months, I've been visiting Noticing every now and then trying to see if you've updated. I completely understand if you haven't, since life gets busy for everyone. But forgive me for being pushy, it's just I love Noticing so much and how detailed it is, I was genuinely wondering if you are planning to add more chapters to it. Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for your writing has given me so much joy especially on days when I could't find any joy in life. Thank you.

To answer your question, my relationship with fic is… complicated, at the moment. My OC pays the bills, and I’m pretty committed to making money on serialized fiction platforms while the bonuses are still good. These platforms haven’t reached a great deal of worldwide success, so there are MAJOR incentives to entice authors to join/build followings. I’ve gotta make hay while the sun shines, as they say! 😜

I do have a portion of the next chapter written, but it’s completely unedited. I haven’t touched it since I was pregnant in 2020 and honestly don’t remember much of what I was writing about in the first place. Still, if you’d like, shoot me a DM and I’ll see what I can do. Just keep your expectations low 😅

And now that they are 15, their family is moving out of Missouri because they fear the recent draconian anti-trans laws.

"No longer identifies as a girl" does not mean they identify as a boy. They are still trans. They knew from the age of 4 that being a boy was not right for them.

I don't think they changed their mind. I think they just found a better understanding of who they were.

These bigots know nothing about trans people yet think they are qualified to criticize them.

You don’t own fanfics. They’re inherently public domain because they aren’t your IP. Agree or disagree with AI, there are no grounds for “protection” from AI because it isn’t your IP to begin with. That’s what you chose when you chose this medium

Do I, or any fanfic author for that matter, have any legal claims to our work? No, not really, no. (Although if someone took a fic, filed off the serial number--deleted the fandom specific elements--, and then had it published for financial gain, yeah, that would be a case.)

BUT

Fandoms are built on a social contract that says we respect each others work, the effort people put into their art. We don't steal or disrespect the work of our peers. By feeding people's fanworks to AI you both steal and disprect it, and we need to make people realize that before it's too late--before fandom falls apart, because there will be no more real, actual fanworks.
