another thing is like... under capitalism, business success and wealth begin to alienate you from others who don't have that. and that alienation can feed into greed, like why not keep investing and making business deals and buying expensive stuff? and no one around is really going to call you out because they are either capitalist hacks or maybe people who once struggled who now rely on you.

so like, I don't inherently expect much from creators like dnp who come into money. even though they probably have more financial freedom than many other creators because of all the tours, books, games, etc (because they are good at business!)

so like, as their fans who ultimately are their consumers, I think it's good to call them out, especially because they have shown before that they have good intentions.

am I expecting much from them? no. wealth can be corrupting and speaking out comes with risk to business/career interests. but they have a special relationship with their audience, as we're mostly all fellow queer and neurodivergent people with similar interests. so we can provide feedback and be the ones to try to ground them and be like "hey that wasn't cool please do better." stopping engagement with them and their content entirely doesn't really do anything to help, unless they did something they needed to absolutely be deplatformed for. stopping engagement is a valid personal choice, but when I see stuff that begins to resemble like 'they aren't being activists right now time for everyone to unstan' I'm like... if that makes you feel better, fine, but I would rather parasocially / affectionately be like "hey I expect more from you!" in a way that is constructive. which is something I would want to do with my friends, but the difference is, if my friends didn't change or try to then I probably would distance myself from them. Whereas Dan and Phil are entertainers we don't now irl, we have a different relationship with them. but compared to many other creators, they really do tend to be more sensitive to their audience (which has helped their success).

Ever since the Matty situation, the fandom has been weird. When I shared my feelings to other fans, I was told to simply unstan and how that’s better for them because it means lesser competition for merch and stuff or that I am not a real fan for feeling this way. It really sucks because before that, I really enjoyed conversing with them online but now, they’re invalidating my feelings. I am not telling Taylor who she should date but I think, as a poc, I am allowed to feel disappointment for her dating a racist man who mocked pocs even if it’s just for laughs. And I feel being squished cause it really bothers me to the point I can’t even enjoy listening to my comfort songs and to only be told those things when I opened up. It really sucks especially when I know the people who are telling me to shut up are white american fans so they don’t get the context on why it really affects and bother me and others so much. They probably mean it as a joke but it really hurts to tell people on why you feel discomfort and simply be told “well, that’s good, the lesser the competition, the better”. Where is the empathy? Are we really that insensitive as a fandom that we trying to shut out people who criticize her? That callous to shut out poc fans simply because we feel disappointment on her actions? And to celebrate that shitting out because it means lesser competition for them?

It’s also really uncomfortable how fans did some mental gymnastics to defend Matt. I am not saying he is evil incarnate but is it really that hard to acknowledge he messed up and said racist things he shouldn’t have said. Why do we always say, it’s taken out of context or it’s just for laugh? It being played as a joke is not any better. That’s how racism starts. That’s casual racism. This whole debacle really opened up my mind that even though people claim to be allies and people tolerate our existence when our discomfort of something starts to affect them, the same allies can defend racism if it’s from somebody they like and if we say otherwise, callously shut us out and even celebrate doing so.

It also sucks that Taylor doesn’t mind all the shitty things Matt did and still think they’re a match. Cause if he is confident to say those things on public, god knows what she is hearing in private from him and yet, she is okay with it. It’s just really bumming and disappointing all through out. Also, I’m really annoyed when people excuse him being shitty because they think he js being a better bf than Joe for performing his love of her in public. When that shouldn’t excuse all the racist things he said and did.

LSS: I just hope her white fans have some empathy to why her poc fans are feeling disappointment on her at that moment instead of simply telling us to leave and celebrate us leaving because it means lesser competition for them. This ain’t a contest on who is the best fan ever and being a fan doesn’t mean we should celebrate all the things she did.

Do you actually thing Park jimin is lonely because he lacks intimacy and human connection? Loneliness is a complex issue and many things can lead to a person feeling this way. For me, I think he's inability to be who he really is was his biggest emotional trigger. He lives in a conformist society surrounded by people who constantly expect maturity and discipline from him, with a fan base that will desert him and unstan him if he says the wrong thing, dates the wrong person or make the move. There's no room for mistakes and that can be pretty dehumanizing.

I was not looking for swiftie solidarity from this account but i found it! Thank you for being reasonable and making me feel better about this world. The fandom has been driving me insane these past few months. The way people were attacking Joe Alwyn like rabid dogs, assuming the craziest accusations from the TTPD song titles. And now that the album is not what they were expecting, they're still trying to spin it as some songs "applying to both Matty and Joe" just so they feel better. Not even getting into Joe's mental health.

The way I think a portion of the fandom has reached a level of delusion that nothing will get through to them normally, even genuine criticism of Taylor's silence regarding both political events and online vitriol hate of her ex, when she herself went through that craziness. It’s gonna be an unpopular opinion but somedays I wish he’ll do something so ridiculously stupid that most of those fans who came with H’sH and is here just because of his pretty face would unstan him and so his popularity will fall. I agree with your unpopular opinion. I'd rather have a smaller fanbase consisting of people who see and get him, and let's him do his thing, than him having a huge fanbase but then having to bend backwards to entertain the flighty gp majority. There are larries who disagrees and wants him to be successful over anything else. And we know Sony/Columbia don't agree, cause they will lose money. I'm a realist and i don't see that happening, even though some of us wish it. But i do see that the ones who actually thinks harry is a person of some substance will likely move on if this behaviour continues. But i think harry tm has a shelf life, they didn’t create him to last. He's not a slow burn, but a quick and fast burning star. They might change strategy, and think that a coming out will be a new era, rebrand him so that his career will last. Idk.

I do think harry is an interesting person and i think he's well spoken when he dosn't need to guard his words or speak on things he's not interested in. We see it so rarely though. He hardly does interviews anymore, both on camera or printed. And i agree that he could be so much more if they let him. Same with Louis.

Ofc I agree Harry’s public image is deteriorating as he connects himself to tabloid rumor/speculation (breaking up partnerships/friendships) but he’s been accused of that since he was a literal teenager, it was just wasn’t in the Hollywood league.

Look, there is no such thing as bad press (outside of some notable things that I won’t say bc we would all need to immediately unstan if anything like that happened…). Yes, Harry could do something wholesome like attend a charity match or sing for children in a hospital or heck, even model in a fashion show but (almost) NOTHING is going to get more attention than those videos.

I think Harry might have been content with the success of Live on Tour but when he won that 1st Grammy, more possibilities opened up. He has agency but he’s also Sony’s golden goose (Emrata has a new Sony podcast btw) so I’m sure there is immense pressure to capitalize while he already has huge public attention. Look at Zayn - super talented - effed off to the woods or whatever and got ZERO Grammy nods. You have to play the game and please the studio machine to be on top. Harry is making sacrifices to get and stay there and more importantly building metaphorical capital he can spend when he’s no longer the hottest thing. He def wants a long lasting career and I’m guessing has a vision for what he wants his life and work to be like in the future. I just hope he doesn’t stumble too many times on the way there.

I remember the Justine Skye and Black Chyna drama (even though I don't even follow that family close like that), and I recall ppl being upset with Kylie. I just figured it was he said/she said, girls fighting over guys drama, and so I didn't really pay much attention to it at the time. But I do recall ppl not being happy.
