I may have to write a "could be canon" fic about Serena's POV when Bernie goes to Holby. I have many headcanons to fit in, including but not limited to:

Bernie being woken in the early hours by a phone call from the police (Cam's escaped), and the subsequent choice to get an earlier flight.

Serena knowing Bernie's not told her everything about WHY she needs to be at Holby (because if Serena knew Cam had escaped, there would be nothing stopping her getting on a plane as well), and actively having to choose not to ask or to believe Bernie's shallow inferences and excuses.

Driving Bernie to the airport.

Saying goodbye to Bernie at the airport. Last kiss.

Arriving back home at the villa that had been their sanctuary for a year. How empty it now feels, how wrong, without Bernie there was well.

Phone alert telling her when Bernie's flight landed.

Bernie texting that she's made it to Holby. Most likely when Cam is in surgery after being hit by the ambulance. Serena is given no details like that though.

Getting "I love you x"

Waiting HOURS after that, terrified. So many ways you could go. Maybe Serena tries to ring. Gets nothing as Bernie's phone is broken. Maybe Donna rings, asking if she's heard from Bernie, and that's how she finds out. Maybe it's Henrik, even later. Maybe she's got an alert on her phone or even Marcus rings.

After hours, finally hearing from Bernie. Hearing Cam is dead.

Then... being unable to get there. It's late in the evening. No flights. Serena can't get to Bernie until the morning.

okay so I have thought about this A LOT and I just think logically, because they ran a business together (and Donna obviously did a lot of the admin there), she must know that her legal name is Catherine before then. But I don’t think they’ve ever talked about it. I think they will, one day, but Donna has learned that some things you can’t push Cam on, and she assumes this is one of them. (That’s just my take 🤷‍♀️)
