A day like today 20 years ago the first novel of our beloved series was published in November 2000. This is an incredible anniversary and that’s why we’ll celebrate the whole month with events!
I hope you can join this special occasion and contribute a little bit by sharing your posts and art here in tumblr.

Comfort Food Comics Spider-Man Post 4 : Final Post

Ok! The Conclusion. Thanks for listening to my rambling about what comics I put in this book.
-Untold Tales of Spider-Man 1996 Annual: A lovely series by Kurt Busiek that doesnt get enough attention. This annual featuring Spidey going out on a date with Sue Storm is just so good. Mike Allred draws and its insanely fun. I really enjoy the Spidey Sue chemistry.
-Spider-Man’s Tangled Web #13: Double Shots: Ron Zimmerman and Sean Phillips give us Spidey foes comparing their villain stories and how bad they are while hanging at a bar. Its a wonderful tale and that ending!!! Ooooph. Brutal.
-Amazing Spider-Man #500: If Straczynski had left when Jr. jr left, I feel this run would be unanimously heralded as one of Spidey’s greatest. I love JMS and Jr. jr’s collaboration on Spidey. Everything else by JMS...ehhhhh. But, 500 is an amazing tale that features Spidey’s entire history, him overcoming everything, the amazing Last Stand future scenario and suit, and Pete being able to talk to Uncle Ben in an ending drawn by Romita Senior. This is what comic books should be. This was a book I read after Spider-Man 2 came out and it ultimately, along with Ultimate Spider-Man brought me full force back into comics for good as a late teen.
-The Spectacular Spider-Man Volume 2 #27: I have a very love/hate opinion of Paul Jenkins. Sometime he writes such good comics. Most of the time his output ranges from bland to awful. His issues on Spectacular with artist Mark Buckingham however tend to be some real gems. This is the issue where Buckingham leans in hard making Uncle Ben and a young Pete basically into Calvin and Hobbes. Its beautifully illustrated and very sweet. I really enjoyed this one.
-Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #1 - Peter and Kitty Pryde kiss!!! I bought this one when I was 17 or 18 and in my first year of college in my first high school sweetheart relationship. It really hit me right where I wanted at the time. Im 30 now and I still dig this one. I love quiet, character focused comics and a cute date between Ultimate Spidey and Ultimate Kitty still remains my favorite issue of Ultimate Spider-Man ever. One of my go too comfort food comics for many years.
-Marvel Team-Up Volume 3 #14: Spider-Man and Invincible! Boy this is one I never hear mentioned. I bet few people even know that Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker were able to team up their Image creation Invincible with Spider-Man once. I remember finding out about this and just losing it. It slides into Invincible continuity perfectly and offers up a really fun tale. Its right in that era of Bendis’ New Avengers and seeing Invincible’s reaction to that team is priceless. This is an awesome team up of two of comics best characters.
-Spider-Man Unlimited Volume 3 #14: “Without A Trace” Spidey/Black Cat vs a Doombot by C.B Cebulski and David Finch. Just a fun little story with some great Black Cat, Pete and MJ moments. Finch’s artwork is really great here. Always been a quiet favorite of mine.
-Amazing Spider-Man #637: Grim Hunt Conclusion. Sure, Grim Hunt never had to happen but that run of comics The Gauntlet and Grim Hunt are some of my favorite Spidey comics. This end issue is fantastic with a darker Spidey, the Kraven family, Kaine. Its such a personal favorite issue. I remember losing it just about every page when this came out.
-Amazing Spider-Man 672: Spider Island Part 6 of 6: Dan Slott’s last truly great Spidey story. This event was so much fun and had so many fun character moments. This final issue has everything youd ever want in a Spider-Man comic. True Spidey heroics, Marvel U fully involved, Kaine’s push, MJ moments. I just love this one issue so much.
-Edge of Spider-Verse 5: SP//dr - Ok so Spider-Gwen is the best costume in Spider-Verse but a costume does not a good character make. SP//dr to me was the best comic to come out of Spider-Verse. I looooved it. Evangelion meets Spider-Man. Thats like a dream filled gif from God to me. Jake Wyatt, one of my all time fave artists gets to cut loose here and it does not dissapoint. In a perfect world we’d have Gerard Way and Wyatt doing a SP//dr series for years instead of the Gwen series we did get. Happy to see her show up again recently though!
And thats that folks! All the personal Comfort Food Comics I could pack into my must have Spidey Bible. Already I regret not including The Lost Years, a Hobgoblin issue, Capt. Stacy’s death, Richard Case’s Sensational Akasha story, Spider-Carnage, Amazing #1 by Spencer....the list goes on and on and a volume 2 may have to be made somewhere down the line. But for right now this is everything you could ever want for some amazing, spectacular, sensational, web of, adjectiveless Spidey Comfort Food! Hope you enjoyed it.

has your Fatal Flaw podcast ever done any comics? what's your opinion on them as a medium? i've heard that comics like Batman have had significant social/political depth as commentary on the USA esp. as a means of storytelling
Oh sorry I missed this comment and now i feel bad, sorry for the late response. So do you mean Comics as in the medium or specifically superhero comics? We have done a few comics, specifically Watchmen, Berserk (Manga), Order of the Stick (Webcomic), Full Metal Alchemist (Manga) and Drowtales (Webcomics). But specifically Superhero Comics its just Watchmen.
So this is actually an interesting question because I am actually a huge fan of comics the medium, I find it super relaxing and since i’m a visual person, I really enjoy reading comics, there is a massive backlog of comics that i would like to do for the show but but @afriendtokilltime really dislikes reading comics, like it makes his head hurt since he is not as visual a person, so its always a big deal when we do any comic related content for this. I mean of those five works we did, one of them (Drowtales) wasn’t even read by @afriendtokilltime though that is partly because it is so difficult for him to get into them. I mean i’ve been wanting to review the Manga Vinland Saga for years now but I really get careful recommending things.
We both love Calvin and Hobbes but sadly that doesn’t really have a fatal flaw so we can’t review it =p
However both me and @afriendtokilltime really don’t like super hero comics as like...a genre. LIke I don’t like superheroes conceptually and both of use think that the Marvel/DC duopoly has basically stunted the industries storytelling potential. This both means that neither of us have much desire to read superhero comics (I mean the one thing we did review as the comic which hates all other superhero comics so...) and our admitted ignorance of the hidden gems which i’m sure exist within the industry. @randomshoes is much more into superheroes than either of us though.
Comics as a medium are fascinating to me though and if there is interest we might do a review of the medium of ocmics because personally I find it really fascinating how depending on how you count, the entire medium can be broken down into 4-5 different mediums despite all of them doing the basic “telling a story with a drawn figure.” routine. Like Western and Eastern Comics are using the same medium, but the divide between Western Comics and Manga is so intense that they are treated as entirely different mediums. And then Newspapers Comics and Webcomics are treated entirely separate from those as well. Some people even put graphic Novels (like Maus which is my favorite) as an entirely different medium so I’m really into comics as a medium and a genre. In fact the unfortunate fate of the Western Comicbook industry to me teaches a lot of lessons about what does and does not encourage a healthy industry, espicically contrasted to the French or Japanese comic tradition.
Me, @afriendtokilltime @randomshoes have discussed in the past doing like...Fatal Flaw whole mediums, a friend of ours asked us to do Fatal Flaw Film, but I’ve always balked because of how huge that is, but if people are interested we could pivot to talk more about comics generally. Certainly i’m into it, honestly i use comics the most as the medium to relax (alongside video games) so I often have a comic I read alongside my work (Currently the deeply underrated and sadly seemingly on hiatus OurlittleAdventure)

2018 Commission Prices
My commissions are OPEN, and here's what you need to know:

Digital Media
All of my digital media is now priced by the hour! My rate is $15 to open, and $12 an hour, rounded up to the nearest dollar. Please see my Terms and Conditions for pricing specifics. Digital media comes in:

Sketches (1-2 hrs)

Flat color (5-6 hrs)

Shipping: Shipping prices will vary by size! I am available to ship internationally (as long as you’re willing to pay for the shipping!).
Additional characters are available! Pricing does NOT change when characters are added to a single project, but if you plan on dedicating each character to a separate project, the initial $15 fee will apply to each.
Prices are based off of character complexity, estimated finish time, and detail put into the work. Prices usually fall in the mid-to-low range unless your character is particularly complex or a lot of concept design has to go into the work. However, I, the artist, reserve the right to price my commissions as I see fit. I'd be happy to review your character references for consideration, please feel free to ask me questions about my pricing!

Breakdown
My commission types and what you’ll get with each commission, in order:
Traditional sketches: Variable size, quick, detailed pencil sketches of your character(s). When ordering a sketch page, pages typically include a handful of headshots, a couple waist-up pieces, a full body or two, and possibly a handful of chibis. Regardless, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Sketch pages are available to be mailed at your request!
Traditional ink: These pieces are large, high-detail, black or sepia ink graphics of your character. You may also include a single color to be used with the ink that will be added in copic marker or colored pencil. Ink pieces can be mailed at the your request!
(New!) Icons: Simple, small icons. Headshots of your character done in a graphic style to show them off. Can be done in a circle or a square!
Chibis: Small, cutesy, expressive representations of your characters.
Digital sketches: Just about the same as traditional ones, but digital. Smallish, messy, sketchy pieces of your character(s). I have a few sketching styles you can select from! A sketch sheet contains what a traditional sketch sheet usually does: 1 full body, a couple waist-up sketches, and a handful of headshots/busts!
Digital ink: These pieces are large and incredibly detailed black or colored ink. I am very passionate about my ink work and have multiple styles for you to choose from! These are my favorite to do :3c
Flat color: Simple, flat, with a fair amount of detail and no shading, and few additional effects. Typically ink work with color, but this can be changed to be a colored sketch.
(New!) Lineless: A messy, free-flowing, lineless style. Quick and easy, though detailed and tons of fun.
Shading: A shaded commission will vary in appearance, contain cel shading, and have more in-depth color than a flat color or colored sketch.
(New!) Fully rendered: Fully rendered pieces are my most extensive commission type. These commissions take hours upon hours, and play will numerous complex shading techniques, but are painstakingly crafted to be just right. These commissions are HIGHLY experimental, but the result will be worth it.
Media
As you see above, my commissions are broken into traditional and digital media. I am available to mail traditional commissions! Please contact me about shipping prices if you wish to receive your commission in the mail.
Digital commissions will be sent to the client in full resolution and size, and I will also send PNG flat files of the individual layers at your request. I will NOT provide the .psd/.sai/.mmd file for your use (with very limited exceptions). Digital commissions will be sent in the form of a .zip/.rar file at the client's request, to avoid the compression of images.
How do I get one?
Instructions:
Request a hold* on a slot purchase if necessary/available. The preferred/default hold time is seven days (1 week), and the maximum hold time is fourteen days (2 weeks).
Establish a payment plan, if applicable. Purchases $50 and over are available for a payment plan. Purchases under $50 must be paid up front before commission materials will be delivered.
Send me a thorough visual reference of your character, or VERY well-written description. Either format requires: Height, body type, color palette, and a brief description of their personality and behavior. I reserve the right to properly judge my ability to illustrate your character in the format requested, and the to decline a commission request based on my current skills. Creating concept art of characters without a previously established visual will take a LOT of extra time. Be mindful of this when providing characters without a clear reference.
Inquire through email by contacting me at [email protected], or private message me a valid email address via your preferred social media site. My available platforms are: DeviantArt, Tumblr, Twitter, Toyhouse, and Instagram.
Pay the invoice you receive from PayPal in your inbox. Credit, Debit, and PayPal payments are accepted. While payment is pending, the commission process and your commission slot (if applicable) will be put on hold. You are given ten days to pay your invoice after the completion of your project. Afterwards, late fees will be applied.
If you do not pay your invoice on time, you will be subject to an additional $5/day late fee. These fees are non-negotiable and will be sent with reminders for each late day.
Yes... You may purchase a commission from me with DeviantArt points. However, I greatly favor USD over points due to the high percentage that DeviantArt takes from me when converting points into cash through the commission widget, and the fact that points given to me personally cannot be exchanged for money. Clients who offer USD WILL take priority over those who offer points. Sorry, a zombie's gotta eat.
* - Holds are a temporary pause of the payment and commission process to allow for payment. Want a commission before the queue fills up, but you don’t get your paycheck until next weekend? Request a hold!

Pixel art. I’m still figuring out my style!

Vehicles/mechs.
Complex scenery/nature.
Complex architecture.
Political statements.
Fetishes.
NSFW work. Nudity is acceptable when it’s tasteful, but I won’t do sex scenes.
Anything that includes hate symbols or has association with racism or hate. This includes any racism/discrimination-related symbols or slang, or hate directed towards any people in particular. Hateful content includes: abrasive commentary concerning race, orientation, kin or specific person/organization, hateful commentary concerning race, orientation, kin or specific person/organization, or slanderous political ideals.
Scenes self harm. This includes anything drug related, characters actively harming or attempting to harm themselves, or other requests along those lines. Mild gore is acceptable, such as bloodied hands, blood spatter, or bleeding eyes/blood tears, but I reserve the right to refuse a commission if I deem it too extreme. Please inquire if necessary.
Scenes of potentially triggering, sensitive, or disturbing material. Self-explanatory. I’d like to keep my work as much of a safe place as possible.
Transformation scenes.
Hypermuscular/obese scenes.
