Folklore & Collage Residency at the Knoxville Museum of Art

EARLY DEADLINE: Sunday, 29 January 2023. Folklore & Collage Residency: Knoxville is an in-person residency at the Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee, centered on collage artists who want to incorporate history and folklore into their artist practice. Residents will make artwork for an exhibition and book. We will hear from guest artists, local artists, folklore specialists and faculty, who will make presentations about place in art and strategies for incorporating folklore into one’s practice. The Residency takes place Sunday, 19 March to Thursday, 23 March 2023. Designed for collage artists, professional development sessions focus on artist practice: topics include Collage Theory; Sourcing Materials, Copyright, Appropriation; Developing Materials; Collaboration; and Collage in Presentation. Fifteen After Nine, 2020. 24x18in, acrylic and charcoal on heavy paper. The title Fifteen After Nine comes from the time on the clock as I worked on the painting. 2 days in a row when I looked at the time, it happened to be 9:15. I didn’t think much of it until I noticed the horizontal could be seen as hands on a clock in the 9:15 position. Make Art Gallery presenta "Blended Visions: Colors in Conversation", una mostra virtuale che invita gli artisti ad esplorare non solo il dialogo visivo tra colore e forma, ma anche il modo in cui questo rapporto possa influire sul giudizio estetico degli spettatori. In questo contesto, ci avviciniamo al concetto filosofico di estetica secondo la prospettiva di Immanuel Kant, uno dei più influenti filosofi dell'estetica.

Gli artisti partecipanti sono invitati a giocare con questo concetto, creando opere che siano in grado di stimolare una risposta profonda negli osservatori. Ciò significa che non solo ci concentreremo sull'aspetto visivo delle opere d'arte, ma anche sul modo in cui esse possono suscitare emozioni, sensazioni e riflessioni nei nostri visitatori. Blended Vision è uno spazio inclusivo per ogni forma d'arte, dall'astratto al figurativo, dal geometrico al concettuale.
