Fifteen After Nine, 2020. 24x18in, acrylic and charcoal on heavy paper. The title Fifteen After Nine comes from the time on the clock as I worked on the painting. 2 days in a row when I looked at the time, it happened to be 9:15. I didn’t think much of it until I noticed the horizontal could be seen as hands on a clock in the 9:15 position. RECONSIDERING HISTORY

I started working on this project three decades ago, and in recent years have been working with my client to craft a refresh the house.

The house was designed by #francisfleetwood on an five acre property that fronts both the Atlantic Ocean and Mecox Bay providing water views from nearly every room in the house.

Here we see a detail of a seat built into the stairs with a 1919 drawing of #isadoraduncan by #abrahamwalkowitz and a wonderful 19th century inverted obelisk work table; used to store one’s needlepoint or mending projects.

The refresh included the addition of modern and contemporary paintings by #alfredleslie #theodorosstamos #yvonnethomas #larrypoons #georgecondo #richardprince #williambaziotes #leehall #robertmotherwell

This 1946 work was painted in Woodstock by the artist Melville Price and owes something to the artist William Baziotes who was in Woodstock at the same time. In my younger days I played drums in punk rock bands. The memories of setting up our equipment in a dive bar on a Wednesday night, playing our hearts out in a loud, sweaty set of songs to 10 people, then going home to get up for work the next morning are some I will never forget. The bands I played in never really had much success, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. I’m not a musician anymore, through my art however, I still connect with music on a profound level.
