We've seen DP and DC be different universes where Danny and Valerie are the only heroes in DP, but there are thousands of heroes in DC. We've seen where DP and DC are in the same universe, and Amity Park just thinks the Justice League are ignoring them.

But what if DP and DC are different universes, BUT Danny and Val aren't the only heroes?

If we treat superheroes as basically cops/military with superpowers, then we can infer what heroes would be like using cop/military statistics. You could even use My Hero Academia society as a basis. Things like "heroes are more interested in protecting private property than serving the public" and "Heroes have high levels of PTSD and physical disability and aren't helped after they retire" are common knowledge in Danny's universe.

And specifically, the one I wanted to make clear for this prompt: In Danny's universe, heroes are highly likely to abuse their family/sidekicks outside the mask.

Suddenly, Danny's in the DC universe. For a low-stakes reason; if he's there because the DP universe imploded or his parents tried to kill him, he'd be too concerned about himself to act on his instincts. No, Danny's there for a vacation and there are so many heroes and kid heroes that he feels sick.

Maybe he catches Batman being rough with his kids, or overhears Superman "belittling" Superboy (Conner). Nevertheless...

Danny ends up thinking that all the Justice League are abusing their sidekicks and families and becomes a villain to save them.

Mason holds his breath when Connor hugs him at the airport. He lets go of Connor at a reasonable interval, which is the first sign that this is going to be okay. When he takes a small cautious breath, it’s fine. Connor still smells like Connor, but not so much. Not in a way that makes Mason’s bones ache and his stomach clench. It’s like Connor’s scent has been coated in wax, processed down into a fancy candle, something to make their room smell nice. No big deal.

On the ice, instead of instinctively knocking guys over, he has to tell himself to hit. He recognizes a handful of alphas playing on other teams – Knies, Edvinsson, Jiricek – but he can’t rely on his nose to tell him exactly where they are on the ice.

Mason trips Kent off a faceoff at practice one day, and it feels speculative, like he just wanted to see what Kent would do. The flash of aggression Mason feels whenever he confronts somebody on the ice is missing. Kent comes up spitting and snarling, and Mason just holds onto him, neutralizing Kent’s attempts to hit him. He’s never turned down a scrap before.

They give Mason the C and the coaches tell him they like the way he carries himself. Mason knows what that’s code for. They also put him and Connor together on a line right from the start and never even try to separate them. The coaches plug in a rotating cast on Mason’s other wing, but it doesn’t matter who’s there. He and Connor keep on scoring regardless.

There’s a ping pong table in the lounge at the rink. The first time they spot it, Mason looks over at Connor with one eyebrow raised, and finds the same expression on Connor’s face. They grab for the paddles simultaneously. After the first few days, no one else even bothers. The table belongs to Mason and Connor now. They spend every minute of downtime in furiously competitive ping pong matches, chirping each other and arguing about the rules, Mason unabashedly cellying every time he wins.

Back in December, while Mason was lying awake trying to ignore Connor’s intoxicating scent, sometimes he wondered how he’d feel about Connor if Mason wasn’t an alpha. If Connor was any other 16-year-old, without a scent to drive Mason mad. Would he be a good buddy, or would Mason want more?

The suppressant gives him a muted space to consider the question. As Connor narrows his eyes and slams down game point, Mason decides that he does. He likes Connor. He can imagine Connor across from him at the ping pong table every day for a long long time, blue eyes intense with competition, intent on beating Mason. He’s the only person who’s ever been as determined as Mason to win. The only person who’s always given Mason a good fight.

It’s something nice to think about, a hazy future thing for someday, if Connor ever presents and turns out to be an omega after all. Kent’s theories aside, Mason still thinks Connor’s got to be an alpha. Nobody as driven as Connor, as intense and competitive and confident, could be an omega.

In between ping pong matches, they win and they win, and it feels like they’ll never lose, not as long as he and Connor are together. Mason ticks up their record as it hits double digits and finally climbs all the way to 15-0 after they beat Czechia in the semifinal. 

The final goes to OT. Garand comes out of his crease and doesn’t make the save, and Finland gets it behind him, and Mason’s entire world narrows to the puck bouncing toward the goal line. He and Connor skid into the paint from opposite sides. They’re chopping at the puck, trying to corral it out of the net, and Mason can feel Connor next to him and suddenly he knows he’s got it. His stick makes the connection, swiping the puck out of danger at the last microsecond, but it’s both of them doing it, like Connor’s presence is sharpening his reflexes.

They’re barely back to the bench before Kent scores the golden goal. Mason and Connor leap over the boards and go flying into the mob. It means more this time, after this tournament was almost taken away, after all the risks and sacrifices to be here, in August, at the unlikeliest of world juniors. Mason’s howling, screaming, shaking Kent by the scruff of his neck, yanking his teammates around by the backs of their jerseys so he can crush them into a hug.

Then Connor crashes into him, and that’s the best of all, clinging to each other to celebrate another gold medal together. Mason doesn’t want it to be the last. He wants their perfect 16-0 record to keep growing. He wants worlds, he wants Olympics, he wants every best-on-best game ever with Connor…

Connor’s face is pressed into the side of his neck.

Mason freezes. 

He can feel every detail of Connor’s face against his skin. His sweaty hair and damp eyelashes, the softness of his lips under the bridge of his nose, the imaginary stubble on his jaw.

This can’t be happening. Mason springs up, and keeps jumping up and down, just like most of his teammates are still doing.

Dislodged, Connor lifts his head. “Mase…?” He looks dazed and uncertain, and his voice is so quiet but Mason can still hear it over the roar of the celebrating arena.

Mason grabs for the nearest teammates and pulls two of them in for a messy four-way group hug, still jumping, still screaming. As he angles his shoulder between himself and Connor, Mason looks up. From across the exultant mass of their team, Kent locks eyes with him, watching.

I was just perusing tags on that post about Connor Kent being referred to as “the think of steel” and i saw your tags and now I have to ask, because I am relatively new to caring about DC at all, but does it Actually stand for Detective Comics?! this is breaking my worldview a little.

So the 'DC' did originally stand for 'Detective Comics' BUT by the time 'DC Comics' became the legal name for the company, the 'DC' was no longer really intended as an acronym.

The name 'DC Comics' started more so as a colloquial term (publisher called ‘Detective Comics, Inc.’ puts logo on their comics that just says ‘DC’ -> since ‘DC’ is the label on the comics, people start calling them ‘DC Comics’) that then eventually became official due to its wide use, but it’s not like ‘Detective Comics Comics’ was the company's intended name. It’s just a lil jokey joke some of us use that’s rooted in the true origin of the company’s name.

To back this up/build a timeline about this, I'm going to pull excerpts from some books i’ll link at the end!

So, years and events of note:

[Then] in 1935, Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson's National Allied Publications came out with New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine #1— the first time original characters and stories had appeared in a comic book format.¹

In 1937, Major Wheeler-Nicholson found himself financially overextended with his printer. In order to continue publishing, he had little choice but to take Harry Donenfeld on as a partner. Detective Comics, Inc., was formed early that year, with Wheeler-Nicholson and Donenfeld's business manager, Jack S. Liebowitz, listed as owners.¹

The new company's first production, Detective Comics #1 (March 1937) was the first true DC comic book. The character of Batman was introduced in issue #27 (May 1939) of that series.¹

[in 1938] Harry Donenfeld was now CEO of both National Allied Publications and its sister company Detective Comics, Inc. Liebowitz managed the offices, heading up accounting and the creative activities, while Donenfeld expanded the distribution through Independent News. Not long after that, National Allied Publications and Detective Comics were merged to form a new entity called National Comics. But even back then the company was known colloquially as DC.¹

Reluctant to add extra titles to DC's schedule, Jack Liebowitz and publisher Maxwell C. Gaines started a sister company called All-American Comics in 1940. Its roster of characters would include the Flash, the Green Lantern, Hawkman—and eventually Wonder Woman, the first major female superhero.¹

By 1940, a circular logo containing the letters “DC” (short for Detective Comics, Inc.) was appearing on the covers of the firm’s publications; from then on readers called them DC Comics, although decades would pass before the change became official.²

In 1944 Liebowitz merged All-American into National Comics. Then he organized National Comics, Independent News, and other affiliated firms into a single corporate entity, National Periodical Publications. This was the direct precursor of today's DC Comics.¹

In 1976, Jenette Khan became DC’s new publisher. […] One of her first decisions was to drop the euphemistic company name, National Periodical Publications. After all, she reasoned, “readers tended to refer to us as DC Comics.”²

positively delighted to see that the tank index lines up precisely with my own personal preferences! to be perfectly clear, those preferences are as follows:

connor bedard to anaheim. he and mason mctavish already have a soulbond that team canada has officially and literally acknowledged, and i am not misusing literally in that sentence. add trevor zegras to the mix and we've got fucking gold on our hands. also, he's a canadian phenom with an american attitude and anaheim is gradually getting better about maximizing z's marketability so i'm cautiously optimistic they wouldn't dull connor down. (especially when the presence of trevor and mac t will make that very hard to do.)

adam fantilli to cbj. yes i understand the allure of reuniting childhood roller hockey pals connor and kent. however, connor bedard lacks what columbus desperately needs and that is SIZE. you know who's got size? absolute horse adam fantilli. i like the idea of increasing the umich contingent in columbus, and i really like the idea of pint-sized nick blankenburg taking adam under his wing. also uh adam shouldn't be too far away from luca.

i don't care too much after that but i'm fine with what's his face the swedish guy going to arizona. also michkov to sjs makes some sense; that team ought to be emerging from the woods right about the time his khl contract is up. anyway i think we can all agree that the most important thing is that neither connor nor adam goes to ch*c*go.

Clark was livid. 

That was really the only way to explain how he felt, upon hearing Kon relay what Tim had told him about Bruce’s recent behavior. 

Bruce was supposed to be better than this. He was a superhero, for god’s sake. And superheroes did not hit their children. 

But this had apparently been going on for years, according to Kon and Tim. 

How had Clark been so blind? 

Which is how Clark found himself landing in the grass in front of Wayne Manor, not even an hour after Kon had left. He’d cleared his plan with Lois, of course, but he hadn’t really expected her to object. 

She loved Damian, too, after all. And it was only Damian still living at home. 

It only took a second for someone to open the door for him, his landing, of course, set off the proximity alarm inside. But they all knew what his landings looked like on their security system by now.

Damian, surprisingly, was the one who opened the door. He looked tired. Like the past few days had been more exhausting to him than anything else. 

As far as Clark was aware, Damian had witnessed the event that set all this off, after all. He probably was exhausted. Bruce was a hero in Damian’s eyes, even if he was constantly rebelling against him. For all the shortcomings he thought his father had, abusive was likely not one of them. 

Not until this week, that is.

And his eyes lacked that spark of mischief Clark usually saw. 

The poor kid was truly lost with all this, wasn’t he?

 After exchanging pleasantries and being welcomed into the house, Clark said as gently as he could, “Damian, son, why don’t you go back a bag.”

“Mr. Kent?” Damian asked, raising an eyebrow at him, “Why?”

“You’ll be staying with us for a little while, okay?” Clark said, just as Bruce exited his office and strode down the hall, already showing signs that Clark had just ruffled some feathers.

“Excuse me?,” he said, toying with the button on his sleeve, a nervous tick, Clark knew. One Bruce thought he didn’t have. “I’m fine with sleep overs, Clark, but you can’t just show up here and take my kid without calling ahead first.”

“Damian,” Clark pushed, motioning to the stairs with his head, not wanting to have this conversation in front of the child. He did not need to hear what Clark had to say.

With a frown, Damian nodded. Whatever expression Clark had on his face must have been enough to tell Damian he didn’t want to be present for this conversation, either. 

Bruce twitched at how easily Damian obeyed Clark, and snapped, “Damian Wayne, you-”

But Clark cut him off, grabbing onto his arm to prevent him from following Damian or escaping this conversation. 

Damian, bless his heart, continued on down the hall, as if nothing had just happened.

“Let go, Kent.” 

Clark didn’t, of course. Not until Damian had made it around the corner and up the stairs, where Clark was confident he could not hear them. 

“What do you think you’re doing?” Bruce demanded, looking pointedly at Clark’s hand.

“What do you think you’re doing,” Clark snapped back, loosening his grip so Bruce could escape.

Bruce yanked his arm away dramatically and glowered. “You can’t just take my kid.”

“I see two options here,” Clark said cooly, “One, you allow this to happen. Or two, I publish a story detailing exactly how you’ve been treating the older boys, and then social services does the work for me. Pick one.”

That, Clark had known ahead of time, was going to strike a chord. And it did. He could practically hear a blood vessel burst as Bruce took a step forward and growled, “You dare-”

“We’re friends, Bruce,” Clark said calmly, refusing to allow Bruce to make any sort of threat, “but you can’t honestly expect me to stand by while you beat on your children.”

“I do not-”

“You hit Tim so hard he fell to the ground. You beat Jason to the point where he couldn’t walk. And I don’t even know how many times you’ve punched and beat on Dick.” 

“They’re all adults,” Bruce bit back, “and they often start-”

“Don’t give me that bullshit. First, Tim is 16. In case you forgot, because he went and got himself emancipated. He’s a child, in both my eyes and the law’s. What kind of excuse is that, anyway? They’re your sons. You’re supposed to love them, not hit them.”

Bruce had no retort to that, and wasn’t that telling? All he did was clench his jaw and fist his hands. Likely itching to hit Clark, but knowing doing so wouldn’t gain him anything. 

Clark wasn’t even sure if he’d roll with the punch to prevent a broken hand, himself. 

“This is none of your concern,” Bruce eventually said, still glaring daggers at Clark.

Clark could hear Damian zipping up his bag upstairs, so he knew they only had another minute or two before the boy reappeared. 

“Damian will be staying with me,” Clark said, smoothing out the expression on his face, “Until you do something about whatever’s going on with you. You need help, Bruce. I’m here for you, I am. But I can’t let these boys get hurt any more.”

Somehow, Bruce managed to clench his jaw tighter, just as Damian started down the stairs. 

“I’ll make sure he keeps up with school. And if you want, I’ll let him call and text you. But I want to see you making an actual effort here. You have some great kids, Bruce. You need to start treating them better.”

Damian turned the corner of the hall at that moment, and quietly made his way down it. He paused at his father’s side and looked up, but Bruce refused to look at him. Instead, he turned around and disappeared back into his office. 

“Come on, kiddo,” Clark said, holding his arm out so Damian would join him at his side, allowing Clark to wrap an arm around his shoulders, “It’ll be alright, you know?”

“Yeah,” Damian whispered, eyes downcast as he walked along side Clark as the exited the manor.

“He does love you,” Clark said, just before he picked Damian up for them to fly to Metropolis, “he’ll come around.”

Damian hoisted his bag into his lap, allowing Clark to carry him bridal style as they flew, then said, “He loves Tim, too. And Richard and Jason. And yet he still…”

“That’s what I’m saying he’ll come around about. We’ll make sure he gets the help he needs, okay?”

After a minute, Damian just nodded, then asked, “Is Jon home?”

“He sure is. He’ll be thrilled to know you’re staying with us. You two will have to share his room, but I didn’t think he’d mind.” 

“No,” Damian said, allowing a faint smile to grace his lips, “I don’t think he will.”
