I’m trying to contain my hyperfixation on The Magnus Archives until I finish it

im gon keep yapping about the sound design for the magnus protocol because its driving me insane
the difference between the two podcasts is so drastic its FRIGHTENING
The Magnus Archives intro/outro: high-pitched, screeching, eerie, dies off with what sounds like a stone tumbling into the depths and lights turning on/off, water, sounds like the darkness of a cave that you must descend into even though you're terrified, but you do it anyway
The Magnus Protocol intro/outro: LOUD, deep, bone-chilling/shaking, foreboding, it sounds like darkness in a different way, like the great throat of some unknown beast that is hundreds of times larger and older than us and will swallow us whole; it's fear that hunts us, instead of us hunting it
-
also, side note/addition because i realized i forgot to add WHY it freaked me out
long story short, i was around 50% deaf in my right ear until I was 12 years old (reconstructive surgery truly is something I am so grateful for) and now I'm back to a fairly normal hearing range.
The problem?
I can't hear low tones as easily.
the magnus protocol is heavily reliant on lower tones, so what I hear is likely not how most people hear it, but for me it sputters, almost, parts of it are kind of missing, and I know I'm not hearing it right, which freaks me the fuck out.

45% of my brain is like " the puter voices are jmart and jonah magnus!!11!1!1!!;" and 45% are " they know we were going to try make TMA and tmagp have some sort of direct relation and they're using it to trick us" and the other 10% are " these motherfuckers are planning something totally different and completely unexpected"

You know when you've been thinking something for ages and it feels normal and then you say it out loud and it sounds so odd and unbelievable that you physically wince but you have to keep going because it'd be embarrassing to backtrack at that point so you just speak it into being normal again?
Yeah I think that's what the supplementals were like for Jon.

What I really want to find out from The Magnus Protocol is how Oliver Banks and Graham Folger broke up. If it wasnt the notebook eating then what was it??

@a-mag-a-day Today I'm thinking about Martin, specifically, how quote-unquote human he really still is
he's clearly fallen on the side of 'Watcher' in the Eyepocalypse, not surprising perhaps, cause he already was able to turn invisible or something like it in s4 from the Lonely, and had to be 'both Lonely and Watching' enough for Peter's plan to at least work in theory. and while not as deep in it as Jon, he's still worked for the Eye for 10 years iirc, and he's marked by it to the point that it's a part of his domain
Martin in canon appears occasionally insensitive to Jon's new impulses, acting as the straight man to his avatar-ness. But we know that Martin's really good at acting like how he thinks things ought to be, while ignoring how he knows them to be deep down. (examples: him being the last one to accept Sasha is gone, at first instance assuming Jon must've been brainwashed in 142 Scrutiny, "I'm knackered!' -'Are you?' -'... ok, well, no, but i feel like i should be")
so i wonder, how much of his reactions are because Jon's words are genuinely alien to him, and how much is just posturing, exaggerating how he feels like he should react, to ignore when Jon's experiences feel relatable, or that niggling idea that, if everyone in this world is either victim or watcher, and Martin feels remarkably good, all things considered... well.
Or,

ah yes, it's the very tired, cynical man with an obsession for investigating and caffeine that has some weird paranormal connection with knowledge, and his partner, the lovable, silly little guy who supports him through every war crime and pushes aside his own problems in order to help him and others.
yes, of course, the cynical guy who considers himself a monster and values trust above anything else. and the charismatic, lovable guy who has so many issues he ignores, so much rage he never lets out, and who somehow wins over said trust because, really, how could he not after everything they went through?
the very oblivious cynical guy who doesn't notice the obvious crush the charismatic guy has on him, and that, after a very rocky start, falls head over heels for him and never looks back.
yes, the couple that goes through so much shit and have eachtohers back through it all, that no matter what nightmarish scenario they're stuck in, they are together and will fight for it to stay that way.
so. is this about guapoduo/spiderbit or jonmartin. you decide

I really love re-listening to tma and coming across statements that I have absolutely zero memory of. I’ve listened to this podcast four times. Goes to show how low my attention span really is.

loving all the theories we’re all coming up with and speculation of what entities are connected to what cases, but uhhhhh have we considered:
the 14 entities don’t exist here— it’s closer to the Eyepocalypse version of the entities than the 14 individual ones. like personal hells. and the eye is presiding over it all, watching and cataloging and taking it all in. which is why OIAR has access to all this incredibly invasive info like personal emails or phone calls or therapy sessions.
the world of TMagP is living in the shadow of the panopticon.

one of the things that impresses me so much about TMA is that I'm content enough with how the story went down and enjoy the cast of characters and their dynamics such that I don't have a single "exclude" tag here on AO3. Like yeah there's stuff thematically I don't read but nothing I automatically filter out when I comb through the TMA tag. No characters or ships that I really avoid.
