idk how many people talked about the scene of dennis turning the heart into a diamond but that was one of the most fascinating parts of the episode in my opinion. i don't think it's a coincidence that it was a diamond specifically. diamonds are often a symbolism of perfection, invincibility, ethereal beauty and health. all of these being things that dennis is obsessed about. when he's touching the man's heart he seems to be at peace for just a moment and then his facial expression drastically changes before he tears the heart out, turns it into a diamond and eats it. you could say the heart represents what he really craves (listen to your heart playing in the background too) and him turning it into a diamond and eating it is an allusion of him taking back control and putting inside him every aspect of his life that he needs to be in control of, how he ultimately is always gonna go back to hiding his vulnerability. we also have the beach in the bg, with the water representing rebirth, cleanse, change. the detour of him going to the beach house but not actually going into the water is dennis restricting himself from what he really wants.

Sexiest Podcast Character — Unscripted Bracket — Round 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Glenn Close (Dungeons & Daddies):
#Propaganda for Glenn Close: one of the other PCs mentions multiple times how hot he is #Actually several characters point it out but especially Henry #Also the only person in a podcast that has to put a disclaimer about not being a BDSM podcast to have had sex during the course of the show
We didn’t do hot Glenn summer for him to LOSE. Spoilers for his story but MORE PROPAGANDA FOR YOU:
Young hot rocker dilf
Loyal to his dead wife <3
Does in fact smoke weed
BARD!! HES A BARD. HE WAS LEAD GUITAR IN HIS BAND (that he was kicked out of)
His band was a Christmas cover band btw.
Literally the fandom had hot Glenn summer which consisted of drawing him being incredibly hot and sexy
Anti government (ofc)
Kind of cringefail (Disney adult) (was on dilfs of disneyland)
Young and sexy not your style? Then how about HIM AFTER YEARS LOCKED IN A TIME PRISON WITH A DAMN HANNIBAL MASK ??
Lost an eye and wears a fucking eyepatch
One incredibly buff arm
Has a pet rat named after his son <3
Immeasurable amounts of trauma in this man- becomes progressively more unhinged
OH OLD HUMAN BARD ISNT CUTTING IT? FINE
HE BECOMES A FUCKING DEMON
A COOL HOT ONE-EYED DEMON WHO WANTS TO KILL HIS DAD (also sexy)
HE CANONICALLY ENDS CHRISTIAN HELL VIA CHRISTMAS
IS ALSO WAY OVERLEVELED
Becomes a demon hunter for the rest of his existence
Also nonwhite !!! We are done with cringefail whiteboys !!!!!!!!!
I can’t put into words ok just know he is the best plz love him.
Listen, I don't know this other character but I've seem some good arguments for her However Consider Glenn Close winning through no effort of his own in a bullshit way despite being a dick is the most in character thing ever. He leveled up three times and got a crab mech, we GOT to give him this win, it's fitting
I don’t regulate if minors follow me or not bc I’m a pretty chill space but I hope the world is aware that’s the only reason I haven’t been downright nasty about Glenn close. I’m down bad. I’m NOT in the boat of ‘Glenn isn’t sexy but I want him to win bc it’s my fandom’. I would estimate I have 200+ drawings of Glenn on my phone that AREN’T safe for work. Way more that are. Where did they come from? That’s MY business. But I tell you this fact to assure you- Glenn IS sexy. I’m not voting to represent my fandom I’m voting out of TRUTH AND LOVE. IF YOU DON’T GET IT YOU DON’T GET IT!!! I just think my level of feral over this man is more powerful than y’all realize. If you don’t get his sex appeal that’s okay, but don’t doubt that this is my truth.
Okay but Glenn made a minivan cum by talking to her so
HE HAS A BOOK THAT HE MARKS X’S AND CHECKS FOR EVERY DAY TO SEE IF THAT DAY WAS A SUCCESS OR NOT. TO SEE IF HE DID GOOD THAT DAY. ITS ALMOST ENTIRELY X’S. HE WAS CUCKED OUT OF A SON. AND A DEAD WIFE. HE DIDN’T EVEN GET TO KILL HIS DAD IN REVENGE. There’s absolutely nothing going for him except his sex appeal in his life. Nobody he loved remembers him. He lost his eye. All he has is a pet rat and friends who admit they don’t really like him that much. He was kicked out of his own band. The band was named after him. He was kicked out of the Glenn Close trio. All he could do was deez nuts the big bad and be sexy. If nothing else, then pity him. Look in his eyes. Look at his heart and soul. Do you think pickman needs this to feel good about herself? Can she not accept a loss for the sake of a pathetic father? Can she shake hands with the minivan fucker and his human gun and just take the L on this one? He did not do the BDSM episode for this I’ll tell you what. Do this for my his sake. Do it for Nick Jr, who needs the prize money to pay for his rat snacks. Do it for his son. For Morgan. Ganbatte.

Mod Note: While I will still take "bad dads are sexy" propaganda and "bad dads aren't sexy" anti-propaganda, I kindly request no more discussion on whether or not he was a bad father. This is a sexypoll, not a parentingpoll. If you see a post you strongly disagree with, you can just not reblog it.
Mod Note 2: This tournament is about fictional podcast characters. Please do not vote for the real actress Glenn Close.
Lup (The Adventure Zone: Balance):
Is somehow the hot twin between her and Taako
Lup Bluejeans (née... Taaco? Tacco? Taco? Tako? who tf knows this is why I'm going with her husband's last name. doylistly she gets her last name from her brother whose last name is given as "Taako again but spelled differently"): Hot, funny, smart and undead. Is there anything else you could want in a woman?? Well, in case there is: she's also canonically trans
LUP IS THE HOTTEST. VOTE LUP.

Subtext and Culture, Young Royals, Season 3, Episode 6
Out here in the real world it's been a week since the cliffhanger ending of episode 5 where Simon broke up with Wilhelm, but in-universe it's just the next day, and Wilhelm is being comforted by Felice.
Tumblr media
Subtext: This entire episode is incredibly meta, there are so many times characters say things that reference earlier seasons or episodes, or the entire series as a whole. This is the first time, and Felice is saying what we're all thinking. IS IT REALLY OVER?!? 😱
Blink and you miss it: Felice gives Wilhelm her sunglasses and dries his tears so he can hide the fact that he's been crying. Also, look at that gorgeous Swedish summer. It is so pretty.
Culture: The third-years are painting the banners that go on the trucks on graduation day.
Culture: They're also signing each others' student hats, which is a common tradition. You can just sign your name or write something funny or do whatever.
Culture: This car is what we in Sweden call a sossecontainer. It's an old 90's Volvo, it's square, it's ugly, and it was pretty cheap and reliable, so it was very common and popular among working class and the lower middle classes. It was never a high-status car, so it perfectly illustrates the Eriksson family.
Subtext: Oh look, another throwback to season 1 when Sara argued with Simon about their dad, and said that he should stop giving people second chances.
Tumblr media
Culture: Oh look, another poem by Karin Boye. This time it's Eternity, a poem about cherishing your time with your loved one, and the text is about how good times feel like an endless summer, which is what it certainly looks like for the kids and their teacher in the lush landscape. But just like in the poem, their endless summer is about to end.
Culture: This is pretty much exactly the reason used when real-world Lundsberg was temporarily closed.
Culture: And Wilhelm isn't wrong, the shitty traditions are in the walls of the place, it's always been like that, and it's always been upheld by everyone involved with the school, parents, teachers, staff, and students.
Subtext: Since this is the last episode, let's prepare the viewers to say good bye to the show, and let's do it with a little montage of students crying and taking their stuff down and emptying their rooms.
Culture: This is a 100% factually true statement, Göteborg is the worst city in the world. Source: I'm a native Stockholmer, and you just have to trust me on this, ok? Look, it's just common sense, alright? Don't listen to people from Göteborg, they're just jealous they're not living in the glorious capital. Also, they talk funny. And they have no sense of humour! And everyone is named Glenn or something.
Culture: I don't think they're referencing an actual school here, and the current Norwegian royal children went to school in Norway, not Switzerland. But the current Danish crown prince went to some boarding school in Switzerland for a while, but then he went to the Danish elite boarding school Herlufsholm. However, it was rocked by a bullying scandal in 2022, so they had to pull him out of that one and deny all knowledge of the events. Feels familiar?
Culture: Solliden is the private summer palace of the real-world Swedish royal family located on Öland, an island off the south-east coast of Sweden. The show has consistently stayed away from every likeness with the real world, but I guess they couldn't be arsed making up a fictional summer palace for the YR royal family so they went with something familiar.
Subtext: Farima is talking about the problems of finding a new school for Wilhelm from an academic perspective, but he's just thinking about how this means he won't be close to Simon any longer.
Tumblr media
Culture: Vincent and the boys are pouring one out for Hillerska. It's a way to toast a dead friend, or in this case, a place.
Blink and you miss it: August places a king chess piece on the table before telling his friends that he's Wilhelm's reserve and might be king someday.
Subtext: And he's still so blinded by the glamour of it, despite everything. Thankfully, his friends can bring him down a couple of pegs.
Blink and you miss it: While Wilhelm is returning Kris, the book from last season, the second book in the pile is a book by Kjell Westö, Den Svavelgula Himlen - Yellow Sulphur Sky. It's about a working class kid in Finland becoming friends with his upper-class neighbour family, and his struggle maintaining a relationship with the girl of the family because of their class differences. Slightly on the nose there, show.
Meta: Henry interrupting our boys at the worst possible time is just a running joke at this point. How many times has it happened now? Four times? Five? Read the fucking room, Henry!
Subtext: Last chance to have a party together, but also last chance to see Simon, "maybe ever". Oh no, we have to start preparing for a sad ending!
Tumblr media
Culture: Red solo cups are not a thing anywhere outside the US really, but you can buy them as a gag gift in Sweden, because to us they're just a weird movie prop we've seen American movies. Every other party scene in the show has featured regular plastic cups.
Culture: Drinking with the teachers?!? Yeah, sure, why not, everyone is an adult.
Subtext: Emo outfit? ✅ Sitting on the floor? ✅ Full of self-pity? ✅ Exaggerating the catastrophic state of his world in the way only a 17yo disaster boy can do? ✅
Meta: Another throwback to how Wilhelm was referred to as the party prince back in season 1.
Blink and you miss it: Felice hides the wine bottle behind her back before Malin comes in. She knows, Felice. Malin knows everything.
Meta: Another throwback to when Wilhelm was eating the dirt at the very same football field that disaster emo boy Simon is now sitting at together with his friends, who are trying to convince him to go to the final party.
Tumblr media
Subtext: This time, August isn't just sorry that he got caught, he is genuinely sorry for everything he did to Wilhelm. He in turn forgives August, and we're all getting closure for this plot point.
Meta: Hey, hey, hey guys, do you remember that scene in season 1 episode 1 when Sara helped hold Felice's hair while she was throwing up? We're doing a throwback here!
Meta: Hey, hey, hey guys, do you remember that scene in season 1 episode 3 when Felice told Sara that maybe you don't have to speak the truth all the time? Well, Sara still doesn't understand why you would lie, but this time she's right, Felice was right to tell the truth.
Blink and you miss it: Stella and Fredrika are making out at the party, Felice saw it, and is making a very funny face. This is also why Stella rudely rejects Rosh, because of course she's gonna choose Fredrika, Rosh was just a distraction to make her jealous.
Subtext: Vincent is talking about Nils, who just came out, but August just saw Sara, and that's the whoever he wants.
Subtext: But despite saying that he doesn't care about anyone else seeing them, he still ducked behind a stack of pallets for this conversation.
Meta: This is a brutal Fleabag reference.
Cinematography: This scene is overwhelmingly lit in that sickly greenish fluorescent hue, but there's golden light coming from somewhere, so Sara and August share one final kiss in that golden light. But there's not enough of it to go around, not enough for their love to last, so August is left standing there alone, and all the golden light is gone.
Tumblr media
Cinematography: Wilhelm and Simon left the party sometime after midnight, this is supposed to be a very early morning summer sunrise, and our boys are just gonna be bathed in the golden light throughout the entire scene. Gods, it is pretty.
Meta: Hey, hey, remember that scene in season 1 when Simon was singing that song, and Wilhelm instantly fell for him?
Meta: Hey guys, remember that scene in season 1 when they were discussing welfare politics in class and Simon threw shade on Wilhelm? This is a throwback to that.
Cinematography: Just fucking look at this shit. What a nice view. The nature and the sunrise is pretty, too! Going naked into the water? Yeah, that's a rebirth metaphor as well. Lisa said so!
Subtext: This entire scene is basically Wilhelm trying one last time to get Simon back. They said they weren't gonna, but he's trying anyway. They're talking about that politics class where Wilhelm couldn't speak up because he was "not allowed". So he's still bound by his royal duties, which is why Simon broke up with him last episode.
Subtext: And since Wilhelm is still stuck, he's left on dry land, while Simon swims away from him, free. Guys, I'm thinking we're actually gonna get a sad ending! This does not look good! 😭
Tumblr media
Blink and you miss it: Stella and Fredrika are sleeping in the same bed and making out the morning after, and millions of #Stedrika shippers are rejoicing! Yay, fanservice!
Blink and you miss it: Walter is helping Henry up after he passed out in the grass outside after the party, and millions of #Walty shippers are rejoicing! Yay, fanservice!
Subtext: The last photo Wilhelm takes down from his wall is the one with him and Simon, because that's the most important memory of this place.
Blink and you miss it: Wilhelm shuts off his red lightstrip in his room. Those lights have typically been a symbol of his love for Simon, but he's turning it off. Sad ending confirmed.
Meta: Listen, it's a lovely little song that Simon wrote for Wilhelm, but it's 100% fanservice, it's referencing events in the show that Simon actually didn't witness, and it's even referencing the soundtrack to the show itself! I mean, come on! And we're getting yet another sad boy Wilhelm montage of him moping around Hillerska with his earbuds.
Subtext: Remember how the frog snowglobe was a gift from Erik, who in turn got it from their grandpa, the king? It's so obviously a symbol of the monarchy, but Wilhelm is dumping it in the trash. Are we... Are we not getting a sad ending?
Tumblr media
Cinematography: The shot of the flag being raised is cut off at half mast, which is a pretty universal symbol for mourning. Oh ok, we're back on track for a sad ending.
Subtext: This is the first time this season that Simon speaks Spanish with his mom, and the first time in the entire series that Sara does, which shows that they're fully themselves again, they've pulled themselves out of the Hillerska world.
Culture: The graduating students are having a champagne breakfast before the graduation ceremony, that's also very common in Sweden.
Subtext: Felice and the rest of the choir decided to have a little rebellion and not sing the boring old Hillerska song, and instead the new improved one that Simon made last season. No-one told him about the switch though, which is why he's so surprised.
Culture: After the ceremony, the graduating students will run out of the school to find their parents and family and friends, who are waiting for them, usually with a big sign with the most embarrassing baby picture they could find of them.
Blink and you miss it: August's mom and stepdad have also made a huge sign with an embarrassing picture of August Malte as a kid. Adorable.
Lost in translation: The queen is saying "lilla gubben", which literally means "little old man", a very common term of endearment in Swedish families. The show has been pretty consistent in that Wilhelm's family are all using normal words, just like any other family would. So it's pretty funny that despite everyone else using titles and styles all the time, to Wilhelm, his parents are simply "mamma" and "pappa", as if he was a regular kid.
Subtext: As a graduating student you get little gifts from your family, flowers, champagne, stuffed animals, all with a blue-and-yellow ribbon so you can hang them around your neck. August is family, so the Queen gives him one as well. Of a frog with a crown. Which is a symbol of the monarchy in the show. Wilhelm threw his frog in the trash, August is getting a frog from the Queen. I think there might be symbolism here! I think we're setting up August to become the next king! Do we dare hope for a happy ending?
Tumblr media
Cinematography: Just fucking look at this shit. The composition, the contrast, the height difference, the distance between them. It's so pretty. And they're talking about how good it was while it lasted, just like how a TV show with a sad ending can still be an amazing experience. Hint hint.
Subtext: We're saying our goodbyes, Wilhelm and Simon are saying goodbye to each other, Wilhelm wishes Simon a nice summer, just like how Simon wished Wilhelm a good Christmas back in season 1, and just like back then, they both understand that they love each other, but can't be together.
Cinematography: And then Simon exits the scene, again, leaving Wilhelm standing there alone, again, having seemingly chosen his family and royal duty.
Tumblr media
Culture: It's common to either rent a truck as a large group of students, or to be driven in a flashy car alone or with a friend. The two girls in the centre are sitting in a very nice Aston Martin, while a bunch of their classmates are on a truck. I can't make out the full text on the banner, but I think it says something like "Lock up your sons because tonight we become like animals".
Culture: Svensson is a very common Swedish last name, so to "be a Svensson" basically means that you're super average and mediocre, you're like everyone else. Whereas these elite kids are used to having everyone else bow and scrape for them, so that message is on brand.
Cinematography: We're in the car, it looks like the ending of season 1, and we're doing a close-up of Wilhelm's face. We're ready for the fourth-wall-break of him staring sadly into the camera, having been once again broken down by the system and not getting the boy. We've said goodbye to everyone, roll the credits, start your crying...
Cinematography: ...except the show isn't ending here. We're having an honest conversation between Wilhelm and his parents for the first time. Because every other time he's said that he doesn't want to be crown prince of the next king, he's been angry or upset, he's been threatening, and definitely impulsive. But he's never wanted any of it.
Cinematography: His parents let him go, they open the door to their van, Wilhelm exits, and the show turns up the volume of the soundtrack. "Energetic music" my ass, it's the Harmony theme! It's the main theme of the entire show playing as Wilhelm runs away.
Subtext: Oh, yeah, August sees him run away, and understands that he's next in line now. Sorry buddy, sucks to be you, but never mind that now. RUN, WILHELM, RUN!!! GET YOUR MAN!
Cinematography: The shows turns into the most perfect rom-com, with Wilhelm chasing down Simon's car through the incredibly lush and green Swedish summer. He catches up to them, tells Simon that he ditched the crown for his own sake, and asks if it's really over between them.
VAD FAN TROR DU?
As if the soundtrack wasn't triumphant enough, it now starts playing As Long As you Are Here as they throw themselves in each other's arms. Happy ending! They're crying, I'm crying, we're all crying! 😭
Tumblr media
Cinematography: A montage? With all the best scenes between our boys from the entire show? With the text of the soundtrack perfectly matching the montage? I should be outraged at how cheesy this is, but it is perfect. Perfect. I love it. I swear, this fucking show.
Tumblr media
Subtext: Finally we are at the true ending of the show. Wilhelm has managed to escape Hillerska, him and Simon and Sara and Felice have all escaped the hierarchies, the expectations, the duties, and the toxic environment of the school. He arrived in a Ferrari, and is now running away with his boyfriend and friends in a crappy Volvo station-wagon. The stiff suit jackets are gone, they're all in white, his hair is ruffled in the wind, and for the last time ever Wilhelm looks into the camera. And he smiles.
He is finally free.

today’s episode was such a brilliant showcase of freddie’s talents like i know we know he’s good at what he does but he had me clutching at my chest one minute, laughing out loud the next, then crying after that like hello??? his ability to shape such complicated and interesting characters with similarly complicated and interesting dynamics is incredible and ik he’d probably laugh this off but i think it’s worth noting that this just really cemented the idea that freddie wong never set out to make the perfect character with the perfect redemption arc and for all both glenn and nick are these two grandstanding demons of hell, they are also just. human as fuck

Great teen talk overall, but honestly I was particularly interested in what Matt had to say about where Lincoln is at right now (and that we might get a better glimpse into this next episode? Which has me both nervous and excited but I'm trying not to think about it *too* much cause I'm already super nervous about how things are gonna pan out for the twins next episode).
It all tracks- Lincoln's increasingly nihilistic view of the world impeding on his ability to feel much of anything but nevertheless caring about how *his friends* are feeling and what they want. Being too deep in a dissociative state to process his own grief (and everything else) but caring that *Normal* is sad and doing what he can to help him.
I think Lincoln is a funny and incredibly fascinating character because if you look at his words, honestly no one can deliver a blow like Lincoln- a trademark of his brutal honesty, and in most stark contrast to Normal's "toxic positivity", neither being inherently better or worse than the other just inverted, and reflective of different values (something something cheerkicks is doomed by the narrative they should kiss etc. etc. not what the post is about). Conversely, if you look at Lincoln's actions (and Lincoln is, at his heart, an action-oriented character), truly nobody is putting their ass on the line for the people around them quite like Linc is. I've stated on several occasions that I believe Lincoln is the most selfless of the teens, and I stand by this, but this is a virtue as much as it as a flaw. It's heroic, to put yourself in a line of fire to save your friend's dad, or impale your leg on a candy cane twice to get an anchor, or hug your friend to show them you care even if it literally winds up killing you- but it also reflects self-preservation instincts that somehow manage to be even weaker than those of the guy who tried to throw himself out of a building thinking that a parachute would save him (god I love Taylor).
Lincoln cares immensely about his friends (despite his growing numbness to the world around him), but dangerously little about himself and what becomes of his own life. As a less dire example, "Apollo Four Teens" acts as a great demonstration of how Lincoln will stretch himself thin for everyone around him until there's nothing left, but forgets in the process to stop and register his own emotions and tend to his own needs. Combine this with Lincoln's perpetual "keep calm and roll with the punches" attitude towards the nonstop bullshit the teens have gone through over the course of the season, including an extensive list of unresolved issues related to Grant (which by now I've outlined fairly thoroughly), and you have a serious recipe for disaster. Characters like Normal and Scary are, relatively speaking, pretty obvious and emotive with respect to their pain, even when they are trying not to be. This is good, since it makes it easier for other characters to recognize that they need help in the first place and try to look out for them (they may not always know how to do so correctly, but the intent is there). Lincoln, in contrast, shuts down and becomes less emotive in response to his own pain (in a manner that is somewhat similar to Darryl, more similar to Glenn, and of course most similar to Grant, but ultimately different from all of them), silently building his walls up higher and higher but being no safer for it. It is partially for this reason that other characters very rarely think to check in on Linc and see how he's doing (Taylor to his credit tried after the titanic episode, but that got interrupted, and Grant does also try but- much like his own dad with him- fails to meet his son halfway in being honest and vulnerable and hence fails to make any progress), leaving him to mostly suffer in silence perhaps without even truly realizing it himself.
I guess the gist of what I'm saying is, Lincoln is in deep water, all of this has been a long time coming, and if nobody does anything about it soon... (Metaphorically-speaking of course-) that boy is going to drown.

So, in the aftershow talk Anthony laments about season 2 but honestly? I love season 2.
I think season 1 had a lot more clear of an objective, and a lot more clear of a structure, but that’s kind of perfect for the story of season 2 right?
season 2 is a story about being a teen. It’s about all the ups and downs and struggles and heartache and everything about being a teen, it’s about crushes, and emotions, and fathers, and weird mustaches, and it’s about the incredibly gen z/alpha experience of trying to figure out what you can do in a world that feels like it’s doomed by the people before you. It’s a very teen story. It’s very proud of this, and it does it very well, and while I can’t say whether or not it was *intentional* I think the structure and flow of season 2 is perfect for that story.
It starts off with a decently defined structure in school, with a vague but simple enough goal to reach, then you’re thrusted out into the world, having to make big choices for yourself and that’s when it starts to get… Messy. Things aren’t as simple as they used to be, there’s lots of moving pieces, people who are going to be making their own decisions that you can’t really change, there’s a lot of things going on. And it even feels difficult to lean on the people you care about but you do it anyways.
I think season 2 has had some of the best pc to pc emotional character interactions of the entire series and I don’t think you get there without season 2 being structured the way it is. Season 2 being so much more loose and more focused on the players pushing the plot I think purely serves it for the story it ends up telling. I don’t think you get moments like Scary siding with Willy and even while lashing out and eldritch blasting still being hugged by Linc and piled on by everyone to show she’s cared for in a season like season 1. I just don’t think that happens, because I don’t think everything being the way it is and the more almost tv show like structuring of season 1 would allow for that. It had plenty of great emotional moments, but I think the teen nature of it being messier and more impulsive and trying to figure out who you are and where your place in the world is absolutely benefits from a looser structure and goals that are less neatly defined.
The dads have, for the most part, figured themselves out as people even on episode 1 hitting. Sure they all grow and learn and change, but they never stop being those people they are during episode 1, they just become better versions of themselves. Even Glenn. Debatably. (he definitely changed but he might have become a worse person, like he’s a stoner who plays a guitar and says “far out” at the start and by the end is creating big vats of oil to blow up an entire commune and pissing in the sand lying down.) They’re adults, they have their priorities, and they know who they are. We’re in a freaky situation, we’ve been through a lot, let’s get our kids, let’s get tf out, let’s maybe try and fix some things because we’re not totally monsters or anything. Bing bang boom.
The dads have very clear outlines, but the season 2 cast has very strong vibes.
They’re a lot more chaotic, loosely defined, and their outlines are less immediate, but in exchange they are absolutely vibrating with energy and possibility and chaos and all of these interesting dynamics and things that never feel forced because, well, they’re still figuring themselves out! By all rights, they SHOULDN’T have those same defined outlines to their characters that the season 1 cast had.
The entire story is about being messy, and finding your way in life, and I think season 2 does that perfectly, and I think none of the incredible stuff that everyone brings to the table works without Anthony doing what he did and doing the incredible job he did. Good shit king.

In 2017, I watched “The Gang Tends Bar” as it aired live, and it’s all kind of a blur but I remember three things very clearly:
Sunnyblr was POPPING. To this day, I still see TGTB posts floating around with 10k notes and they are all still so fucking good. My beautiful relics of an absolutely insane time.
Airing A Crickets Tale that very next week is probably one of the most chaotic things that was happening to Tumblr at that time. We were all like, “Mmm, thanks for whatever that was, RCG! So yummy! Now can we have another helping of repressed middle-aged gay men?” and they said, “Okay, sure! Here’s more of that but make it foreboding,” and aired “Dennis’ Double Life” the very next week after THAT.
I didn’t sleep the night TGTB aired. I was a freshman in college and I went to class the next day and just stared at nothing during my lecture because I was so blown away by it. At 18, it was one of the most formative experiences I’ve ever had with television. Raw, emotional moments have always been so much more impactful to me in comedic shows. I still consider it one of the most romantic episodes of any show I’ve ever seen. I’m 25 now, and I have never forgotten the way I felt the first time I saw this episode. My life is entirely different now from February of 2017, but my feelings about TGTB are exactly the same if not intensified.
Bonus Big Feelings:
Once you’ve watched “Dennis’ Double Life,” TGTB reads so differently—it hurts so much more. Because you know how it ends for them and you never get closure. YOU NEVER GET CLOSURE.
Something about Glenn’s hair being outstandingly hot in S12 really brought everything together, that year + heightened the pining. He would do something and we’d all be like “ok work!”
Season 16 is the closest I’ve felt to Season 12 levels of deranged. I think this makes sense since S16, stylistically, reminds me the most of classic Sunny and somehow, also, every macden fic I’ve ever read.
I never had a good reference point for whether other people outside of Sunnyblr read that episode as incredibly queer, or Just Guys Being Dudes, but most of my comms class watched this show, and we were all foaming at the mouth talking about it the next day. Everyone was like, “Oh my god! It’s getting gayer! We won!”
Reflecting on where I was in life when TGTB, and when this most recent season aired, I can’t help but wonder where we’ll all be if they touch noses. Season 24 is our seasons guys.

The first time I watched this one was before I'd watched Wiseguy, so I don't think I had much of an opinion about Glenn Frey other than TAKE IT EEEEEASY, TAKE IT EEEEEEASY
Anyway I actually really like him as an actor and I think he does a great job of playing a super burnt out aging hippie Vietnam vet here
This is also the second (and unfortunately the second to last) episode directed by my best pal Paul Michael Glaser, so it's thoughtful and well-paced and fairly homoerotic, which is all one really needs for a solid Vice episode
The DEA does not come off well at all in this episode:
Sonny tells a callous and "results oriented" DEA agent who blames casualties on the "politics of contraband" that "the politics of contraband does not involve killing children," and then straight up calls him a fascist
And later a Rico expresses a sense of surprise that they're involved in such "a big operation, moving people to Cartagena," and a DEA agent responds with "not people, just you two"
...which is all fair because the DEA is terrible, although we're still in the portion of the series where (Sonny especially believes) "regular cops" are still positioned as good, so a bit of pot-kettle going on there
Trudy SO wants to go to Cartagena and make a drug deal but the DEA agent tells her she is staying in Miami and posing as Rico's wife. : (
We'll see later in Prodigal Son that PMG is really good at directing Don Johnson, but it's very clear in this episode that he's also extremely good with Philip Michael Thomas
There's a bunch of moments in this one that are very Starsky & Hutch -- the fight in the alley could literally be ripped from an S&H episode, and the later scene where Sonny and Rico have a wordless conversation in matching doorways feels very S&H as well
The lyrics to the Glenn Frey song Smuggler's Blues straight up narrate part of the episode, to the point where it feels a little silly. Trudy sure does have a suitcase when you're singing about suitcases
We don't get to see if their hotel room only has one bed but I like to believe
So. I think this is the episode where Sonny, who is very good at ignoring his own feelings and refusing to process anything, suddenly realizes that he might care about Rico More Than Is Normal or Acceptable. When Tubbs is captured by the Colombian police, he lets him go fairly quickly, and without pushing back too much on Jimmy-- until they get back to the hotel. He doesn't freak out until he has the time and space to process, and then he snaps. Jimmy asks if he's going to just take on the entire Colombian police force, and Sonny says 'maybe,' and he tries to strangle Jimmy. When he calms down, and Jimmy offers him a cigarette, he breaks the filter off. And then as he and Jimmy sit and discuss loss, Sonny genuinely looks like he is (and frankly he could be) crying. He tells Jimmy that Rico is the one guy he's "gotta wait for," and then when Rico gets out of jail, he sees that Jimmy has left and Sonny has completely trashed the hotel room.
You know.
Normal coworker kind of behavior.
Thank you PMG for always supporting your loyal queers
There is an unremarked upon and incredibly ominous small boy who follows Grocero (the drug dealer) around throughout the episode, and I'm sure the intention is something-something the way the drug trade fucks up kids bla bla BUT what it actually comes off as is just. David Lynch Red Room shit. Haunted child.
When Trudy is captured later and Castillo is deciding who is going to try to defuse the bomb she's strapped to, twice Gina asks for it to be her, and twice the entire rest of the team ignores her. It's a really interesting little moment, especially coupled with the DEA agent shutting down Trudy's desire to go to Colombia earlier-- Gina and Trudy are often given short shrift, but it's not usually remarked upon. These lines didn't need to be included-- Gina and Trudy could've just been excluded from the missions as they often are-- but instead this episode actually highlights the ways they're sometimes dismissed and prevented from fully participating in things the men of Vice are never questioned on. I'm not 100% certain, but from what I recall this may be the only time this tendency is lampshaded in this way-- I suspect because this episode was written by Miguel Piñero, which is to say: Calderone himself.
Piñero was a playwright and poet known for piercing portrayals of modern society and its ills (especially with regards to the treatment of Black and Hispanic populations). He died very young, but in that time was nominated for or received a number of prestigious writing awards and helped found the Nuyorican art movement. I do not think it's a coincidence that this man saw some things (Vice's iffy track record with women, the abject uselessness and evil of the DEA, even the portrayal of the Colombian police captain not as corrupt but desperate) more clearly than many of the other writers on the show. It's also worth noting that Piñero was bisexual, and in a relationship with gay painter Martin Wong at the likely time of writing this episode-- which is to say I don't think Sonny's "oh. Oh no." moment about Rico ought to be brushed off as "straight writer accidentally makes something homoerotic because they don't think or care about women."
Tubbs blesses himself when he hears that Sonny and Trudy are okay-- he is not generally portrayed as particularly religious, but he probably had a Catholic upbringing, given his background, and it feels like a very real reaction.
The episode ends with Tubbs waxing philosophical about why anyone would do any of this shit and deciding that "the bottom line is money," and Castillo agreeing, "usually is." That's it folks! That's the show!
So uh. Is Jimmy dead
I know in a later episode some other smuggler will be like "yeah Jimmy told me all about you guys" to Sonny and Rico but like. Someone forgot to wrap up Glenn Frey's storyline here
He gets shot and then we just never see him again
R(?)IP Jimmy

can you say more about the lighting stuff you mentioned?
Ruh roh you’ve hit a special interest button!
I can I can but I’m not a pro gaffer or anything I’ve lit some of my own projects and helped on some smaller student films and I also have very strong opinions about lighting when I think its bad and sunny I think is very bad as of right now.
Early sunny gets knocked a lot for its incredibly shitty lighting and yes while there are clear flaws when it comes to things like reflections in picture frames and directional issues for some of their shots their actual lighting strat itself fit the show perfectly. What better for an anti-sitcom sitcom about a bunch of assholes working in a dingy bar than dingy lighting with lots of shadows and texture?
It works perfectly for the show!
So lets look at a picture from season 4 vs season 15 (I apologize in advance for having taken pictures of my screen I know that makes things look awful but alas I could not find these caps on YouTube)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 4’s lighting makes great use of their practicals (lamps, the neon) for some backlight *which adds dimension, while also making it appear like their strongest light source is coming from from the window. (In general, early seasons used a lot of practical lighting, ie. “real world lighting) The light here looks motivated *whatever fill they put on rob is a bit much but alas*, motivated meaning the light would organically come from somewhere in the real world. And the use of shadow creates both dimension and a feeling of naturalism. Again. GREAT for this kind of show.
Season 15s lighting is such a good example of the show’s hollywoodification. The lighting (conventional TV three point) is great for modeling and fashion photography as it often enhances people’s conventional attractiveness and doesn’t rely too much on needing a “source.” I think this lighting, especially for a show like sunny, is CORNY AS HELL! And I hate to say it but it really pains me that no matter how funny this show will be with the jokes it’ll never look the same and because of that something will always be lost. New sunny feels lit like a commercial. New Sunny’s lighting incorporates very little artistry and tone into it. (Granted, I thought the lighting was actually a lot better in the bar for the most recent episode). I mean just look the lighting on Glenn’s face in particular. There’s barely any difference between the right and left side of his face. Danny’s might be even worse. It creates this flat and unnatural look that totally clashes with their setting.
The craziest part is, in “The Gang Wins an Award” they make fun of sitcoms for using this type of lighting! And it makes me want to rip my hair out because guys!! Hello!!! You will start doing this too!!

thoughts about Henry and Mercedes, after episode 47
thinking about Henry and Mercedes leaving their home, their entire plane of existence, to go and do their best to care for the people that their sons sacrificed and left for dead. the absolute hell they must have gone through to establish a point of safety and peace in all that chaos and violence. it's a terrifying world of cannibalism and memory stealing and various factions struggling for power, but even so, they wouldn't hide Oakvale. if they did then the people looking for help wouldn't be able to find them. so they're exposed and vulnerable and every time a group of attackers comes along looking to hurt them or exploit them, the first thing Henry and Mercedes do is try to make peace. try to offer them shelter, ask them if they really want to be enacting all this violence. and sometimes that works! and sometimes it doesn't.
Henry stewarding Oakvale and being terrified of turning into Barry. being terrified that he might be slipping without realizing it, he could be falling under the Doodler's influence. is he encouraging the villagers to idolize him? is this a cult? he fuckin hopes not, but would he even be aware of it if he was? he's seen the way people act in this world, so convinced that what they're doing is totally normal, even as they tear someone limb from limb, even as they're pushing other people into vats of molten cheese.
Mercedes leaving her life behind and taking up arms, learning how to kill to defend her people. she gets good at it. really good at it. they both wonder if this is the doodler too, if she's being changed, if she's starting to enjoy it. Henry assuring her that this isn't her responsibility, she doesn't have to do this. Mercedes getting fuckin pissed off whenever he suggests that she isn't just as responsible, as if Lark and Sparrow aren't her sons as well, as if she doesn't have just as big a role in everything that happened.
occasionally, they get phone calls from back home, and it's never anything good. Ron calls them to let them know that Darryl died. then a call from Terry Jr, Ron disappeared and they think he drowned. Henry agonizes about whether or not he can justify going to their funerals. Henry normally doesn't leave Oakvale, doesn't like leaving it undefended, doesn't trust Barry on his own, even with the bracelets (they had to move the bracelets from his ear to his hand after they caught him trying to cut his ear lobe off to get rid of them). but just one day back home would be minutes in this world. surely that's okay. surely he can make that exception to go say goodbye to his friends.
both times, he's terrified that he's going to come back to ruin and devastation. both times he feels incredibly guilty to be able to leave, to be able to take a day off, when billions of others can't. both times he gives flowers grown on the world that Darryl and Ron were born on, before code purple swapped everything round. both times, Glenn offers him a joint, asks to at least get a drink together before he runs back to the old world. both times, Henry declines and disappears before he can get too comfortable, before he can be tempted by the safety and the calm, before he can be convinced to stay
in the present day, Lark and Sparrow didn't seem surprised that Mercedes had passed away. they already knew. so Henry must have called to tell them at the time. were Lark and Sparrow expecting it, did they see it coming? how long had it been for them, since they'd last seen her? how long had it been for Mercedes, how long had she gone without seeing her beautiful boys, before she died?
thinking about Henry without his wife, without his friends, without his sons, caring for a village full of traumatized and terrified people, the only family he has left is his abusive father, living in a world that is constantly trying to destroy everything he's built, and the fuckin emotional fortitude it must take to still, after all that, offer the Doodler a cup of chamomile tea.

okay PREDICTION TIME here is what i think is going to happen in the next ep (s2 e49).
first off i think (and hope) we're going to get a party split episode, and i could not be more thrilled. Link/Normal and Scary/Taylor is the one split that we haven't seen much of, and i think its going to be incredible. i think that Sparrow is alive but has been kidnapped by Willie and is either in Heaven with him or being kept somewhere else; either that, or he's just straight-up dead. either way, Lark is going to LOSE HIS SHIT. because we're in endgame territory, i think he and Scary and Taylor are going to get into Hell somehow to call in the cavalry (Nicky, Terry Jr, Glenn, Morgan, Jodie, etc), and then will have to fight the FBI Hell occupation to get out of there. I ALSO THINK WE ARE GOING TO GET A JIMMY WONG RETURN AND I CANNOT WAIT.
on the other side of things, i think Link and Normal are going to do some dumbass shenanigans to try and get into Heaven, and the Heaven Heist references will be innumerable. i think there's a good chance that they will actually try to do the Heaven-Heist-Flatliners thing, which by definition is only possible for short moments at a time, and hilarity will ensue. bonus points if this is yet another piss episode. unsure whether or not they will actually get into Heaven this ep, but when they do, i think it's a stealth mission, and they immediately head to find Darryl and Ron to get help. inside Heaven, i think that either a. Willie is being a fascist dictator and Darryl/Ron are part of the resistance, or b. there is very little change to be seen on the surface.
FINALLY (bear with me) i think that a certain someone with demonic blood who died recently may show up at some point in the Hell bit. i Do think that David Lovesatan got ousted as soon as Hermie showed up and we will get the double whammy of both Herm Return AND Heel Turn Hermie, which i look forward to IMMENSELY. anyway, stay tuned to watch me be wrong about literally all of this <3

Sexiest Podcast Character — Unscripted Bracket — Round 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Glenn Close (Dungeons & Daddies):
#Propaganda for Glenn Close: one of the other PCs mentions multiple times how hot he is #Actually several characters point it out but especially Henry #Also the only person in a podcast that has to put a disclaimer about not being a BDSM podcast to have had sex during the course of the show
Young hot rocker dilf
He did not do the BDSM episode for this I’ll tell you what. Do this for my his sake. Do it for Nick Jr, who needs the prize money to pay for his rat snacks. Do it for his son. For Morgan. Ganbatte.
Glenn is the goofiest sexiest character there is and I will die on this hill! I will ride into battle for him! what Dndads created is truly unique and Glenn is a key part of that and for that he deserves to win. I said it before and I'll say it again - GLENN SWEEEEEP
Can we talk about how he says ‘baby’ casually? Like he just calls people that?? That’s HOT. THAT IS HOT!! He’s also bilingual and knows Japanese!!!! He’s a big dumb idiot with a lot of charisma!!!!!! HE WORKED AT A BDSM PLACE FOR TWO SEPARATE ONE SHOTS. HES SO SAD BUT PLAYS IT OFF LIKE HE’S CHILL ALL THE TIME!! HE DOESN’T THINK OF HIMSELF AS SINGLE BECAUSE HE DIDN’T DIVORCE HIS DEAD WIFE!!! He’s like.. the perfect guy. We need this win.
I’d also like to add the fact I made this. Which is the first 11 episodes edited to (almost) only have Glenn in them <3 which is a level of insanity I hope to reiterate. These took hours to make. I wouldn’t do that for anyone else.
Amber Gris (The Adventure Zone: Ethersea):
Middle aged woman who punches sharks to death. My hero
If you love me you'll vote for amber gris I swear to everything holy on earth amen
Amber is butch, instant win
Amber Gris has a negative charisma modifier and she pissed her pants on purpose in order to trick a guard and knock him out. She tied up a dude. She once killed an evil magic shark (they're out for murder. not like real sharks) by punching it and then picked it up and smashed it into another shark, also killing it. She talks in a southern accent. She calls people guppy because it indicates a lack of respect. She has a big pair of magical green arms that come from her stomach. She got a fancy jacket and immediately ripped its sleeves off. She has a gay thing going on with one of the political leaders in the city. She gets in fights with people and doesnt do vulnerability and tries to lay low and not get in any social trouble she doesn't have to. She jumped through a portal into a new world because she could. She's now the god of said world, alone with only afformentioned political leader, who was previously possessed and she had to fight. She spends her time in a bar called the Cloaca. She calls people she doesn't like claspers, because it means shark penis. She and her friend, an old man named Uncle Joshy, sneak attack each other and yell VIBE CHECK! She tries to talk fancy to impress people and she's really bad at it (verily).
She’s everything and more. She’s irreverent. She punches sharks for a living. She becomes God. What more do you need in a butch.
amber gris propaganda: she is straightup the physical embodiment of "women want me, fish fear me." also she's an appalachian post apocalyptic sea captain. that's just objectively cool.
AMBER GRIS IS PUNCHES SHARKS AND IS (one of) THE MOST BADASS BLACK WOMEN PCS IN DND SHOWS IVE EVER SEEN. SHES INCREDIBLE AND A WIN FOR DYKES EVERYWHERE
amber's creator said she was based off of the type of working-class woman you commonly see in appalachia where "this is the sort of woman that you see walking past CVS, and you know that a truck could hit her and it would just split around her as she continued to go pick up whatever she had to do that day." and that's pretty hot
guys Amber becomes lesbian god of the new world with her childhood “”friend””
#amber gris is LITERALLY a middle-aged butch #she would win this entire tournament in a just world
Last time Amber got horny was when she killed that shark
"it was a savage bummer though, don't-- trust me, there's nothing that great about a history. You know? I got one. What did I do, killed a bunch of sharks? Last time I got horny, god and christ I can't even tell you-- well, it was when I killed that shark. But! Hey. We're all just kinda figuring it out."
Moonshine Cybin (Not Another D&D Podcast: Bahumia):
She's a hot elf with mushrooms growing on her. She has 1 level of barbarian. She's bisexual. She shapeshifted into a dragon and ate a god.
how tf does the post not mention Moonshine’s giant boobs her greatest asset
Moonshine has canonically gone down on a woman for a solid hour without asking for anything in return. Moonshine edged a dryad just by kissing them. Moonshine faced down someone being controlled to kill everyone in his path and told him if he still wanted to hurt her, she would take his blows as a friend. Moonshine makes jambalaya for her family and friends. Moonshine mispronounced someone’s name for a month and that woman still wanted to hook up with Moonshine. These are just a few of the reasons why Moonshine is sexy.
shes illiterate
canonically huffs dirty water from a bong
has big tatas
wears a belly chain with a demon trapped in it
almost became the queen of hell
ate a god
turned into a pregnant moose & gave birth
The woman she went down on for an hour asking nothing in return is still hung up on her, 200 years later. Moonshine is unmatched
To be clear the woman whose name Moonshine mispronounced for a month and then hooked up with is the same woman she went down on for an hour, and the same woman who is still flustered over her 200 years later. The rizz is unparalleled. She’s also incredibly kind and accepting of others, and goes out of her way to bolster her friends. The party always requests one big bed.
moonshine cybin is a druid who learned counterspell through sheer force of will. moonshine cybin turned one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse into a dolphin, flew him 60 feet up into the air, dropped him on the ground, and then spit spores into his face to kill him. moonshine cybin turned into a dragon and bit the head off of a double god. moonshine cybin was willing to confine herself to an eternal hell to save the world. moonshine cybin is a dragon rider. you know what you must do.
Amber and Moonshine Together
Look at them. They should not have to fight when they could be gay instead. Imagine the power they would have combined... Every lesbian in a hundred mile radius of the post would swoon. It may be an odd alliance, but from an Ethersea fan to Bahumia fans, i believe this will strengthen both our odds. I have always been insane about Amber Gris but through this poll I have also learned about Moonshine and come to love her too. Take my hand... We can do this together...
OKAY HEAR ME OUT MOONSHINE AND AMBER WOULD GET ALONG SO WELL
appalachian sapphic solidarity!
Art of Amber and Moonshine from @pirateknight.

I got to the trial episode of DnDads and it just blows my mind how they thought they were going to win. I agree with the jury. I feel Ike Glenn is a good person for the most part. Completely insufferable, full of himself, and always trying to weasel out of something or pull a fast one...but still a good person. He tried to help the dads with saving their kids, used his weasel-y ways to his and the other dad's advantage, and while he's incredibly emotionally stunted he has tried to be there for his friends. But despite all of that he's a terrible father. Jodie isn't really all that better. He's the other extreme of the spectrum and Nick comes out as a kid who still hero worships his father but now is very repressed and codependent. I really do feel like Glenn has an arc. Prison really did change him and I feel like he could be a good co-parent in like an uncle capacity. The kicker though is I know that Glenn and Jodie go back to their pissing contest pretty much immediately in Hell and Nick gets fucked over by his friends. I stopped in season 2 when the kids went to Hell so relistening to this makes me feel bad for Nick and makes me wonder what his life would've been like if he had gotten to go to an alternate reality where his parent was just Morgan.

HEY GUYS ITS 1AM AND I HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ON THE NEW EPISODEEEEEE
spoilers obv
FIRST OF ALL. OMG. FREDDIE. NO CAUSE HE’S SUCH A GOOD ACTOR AND ILL TELL YOU WHY
ALL THAT STUFF TAYLOR SAID ABOUT THE LION KING? THAT WAS SO OBVIOUSLY ABOUT WHEN HE THOUGHT HE LOST HIS DAD, LIKE HOW HE COULDN’T IMAGINE WHAT IT’D BE LIKE TO LOSE A PARENT?? THAT LITERALLY ALMOST JUST HAPPENED TO HIM AND I JUST AAAAAAAAAAAAA
TAYLOR CONSISTENTLY STAYING UPSET ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND LIKE HAVING AN ACTUAL VISIBLE REACTION CREATES SUCH A SEPARATION FROM GLENN IN THE PREVIOUS SERIES WHO KEPT IT ALL DEEP DEEP IN INSIDE, AND FREDDIE HAS BEEN SO INCREDIBLY GOOD ABOUT GOING BACK TO THAT POINT OF TAYLOR’S EMOTIONAL STATE LIKE. IT GETS ME EVERY TIME.
the standup was so funny but it was also just. sad in context. lmao.
AND ON THE S U B J E C T OF SAD PARTS OF THE STANDUP WE’VE GOT HERMIE. OH MY GOD HOW HE HAS DEVELOPED AS A CHARACTER IM SCREAMING. THE FACT THAT HE IS A DEPRESSED DRAMA KID WHO USES ACTING TO COPE WITH THIS INHERENT NATURE TO WANT TO SCAM AND TRICK PEOPLE IS JUST SO. ITS SO. AND WHEN HE LITERALLY SAID THAT HE’D RATHER KILL BOTH HIS BIOLOGICAL PARENTS THAN ACCEPT THE FACTS OF HIS ORIGIN?? IM LIKE WOAH. GODDAMN ANTHONY IS A GOOD WRITER (just imagine the kind of juicy stuff he writes in that porn script lmaoooo).
ALSO I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE THEY ALL GOT MARRIED BECAUSE THATS SO FUCKIN ON BRAND. ITS SO GREAT OMG.
AND THE FACT THAT NICK HAD WEEKS OF SITTING AROUND IN HELL THINKING OF WHAT TO DO AND HE WAS JUST LIKE “yep this is the only way” IS HILARIOUS. LIKE I JUST IMAGINE HIM SITTING THERE PONDERING WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION, WITH SOME RANDOM DEAD GUY SCREAMING IN THE BACKGROUND AND HE’S JUST LIKE “shut up! I’m trying to think!”
I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF THIS WHOLE EPISODE IT WAS COMPLETE AND UTTER GOLD. I AM NOT VERY ARTICULATE RIGHT NOW NOR AM I HAVING ANYTHING ABOVE SHITPOST TO THROW IN HERE BUT HEY ITS 1AM GIVE ME A BREAK ALSO MOST OF THIS PROBABLY SHOULDN’T BE IN ALL CAPS BUT THATS JUST WHAT IM GOING WITH WOO

As I'm on my big Coogan rewatch I think I'm gonna take notes here.
KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU: I've gotta say watching it a second time really made my appreciation for it skyrocket. I get why people would say it looks more dated compared to other Partridge, but coming from a country were television really is a pillar of culture and also having studied it a bit, it's incredible to see how much they got the vibe right as well as the look and music, and also some of the sketches (like the old Olympics women) could've almost been archive footage. Steve here was still playing Partridge in a more outright comedic, less nuanced way, but he's so good at being over the top while also making you feel you're watching a real person that you really don't mind. Some of his micro-expressions and his timing are outwordly. I'd say some bits didn't land as well as others and it's more noticeable in a strict format, but there's some peak partridge thrown in there. Cheeky Monkey, the political panel and honestly most of Episode 5, Gina Langland and her ABBA medley, the Hollywood couple who's breaking up, the Hollywood kids taking the piss out of Alan. Also some of the stupid studio stuff like the interactions with Glenn Ponder, Roger Moore, Alan's idiotic but committed endings and his constant mood swings in the name of the show must go on mantra. All the supporting actors are fantastic, but I gotta tip my hat to Dave Schneider here who probably had the least successful career out of The Day Today gang, but he nails it every single time here.
