[ID: Two Wings of Fire dragons, Peril the SkyWing and Turtle the SeaWing. They are both sitting together on a blue background. Peril is bright orange with a yellow belly and softly glows yellow. She is looking over her shoulder to look quizzically at Turtle who is sitting to her right holding a marshmallow roasting stick near her back with a look of concentration on his face. His tongue is sticking out as he says 'Ok, this time it will work for sure!' On the ground below his feet are several burnt marshmallows smoking. Turtle is short, seaweed green with yellow accents, and plump. He wears a gold armband with sky fire on his right shoulder and a blue jade turtle earring on his left ear. /End]
Guess who finished a test and then finished this? Yep this guy did. A bit later than I wanted. But my favorite friendship is Turtle and Peril. Tall, awkward, lanky, terrifying trans lady befriends small, chubby, anxious, fish-smelling wizard child to go on a quest. I just love their interactions. And the fact that Turtle canonically has scales that are strong as diamonds/indestructible, that means they can give each other hugs. They definitely stay friends after the ends of the books. Maybe Turtle even helps her write scrolls about firescales so other firescale dragons have stories and experiences to draw from (Ruby totally makes it illegal to murder children based on a disability/gene mutation so there are going to be more mini Peril's running around and they deserve to have stories they can relate to).
I am trying to push my shapes a bit more. So lanky Peril and chubby Turtle. He's nice and round and she's a bit more pointy. I also switched up my Peril design a bit. Turtle is the same because I low key really like my design for him. But I saw a really cool theory about how Turtle should be Anemone's colors because he's the animus. So I might have to do a drawing of that. And maybe Anemone was 'standard' colors until she was cursed by Turtle. And then the magic starts forcibly changing her colors and pushing the other colors out.
The few snippets of dialogue I've seen from from Hermes in Hades 2 really reaffirms a core part of whatever his relationship is to Charon to me: Hermes is extremely invested in making sure Charon has someone to talk to.
Please say hi to him. Please make sure he's doing okay. Please look out for him. Someone needs to be checking in on Charon and be there for Charon when Hermes can't be.
Maybe it's because he recognizes Charon is a loner and doesn't have people who worry about him. Maybe its because he knows Charon has a hard time communicating. Maybe its because Charon is a workaholic and will put the people he cares about before himself. Maybe he just really fucking likes Charon.
Probably all of these. But I had that assumption in the first game, and I'm glad its canonized (or so it seems) in second. Hermes worries about his big skull faced man's mental and social well-being so much that he's asking the children of Hades to take some time out of their big important 'find my mom/dad' quests to make sure boatmen aren't too lonely without they speedy chatty birds.
Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.
Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.
So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.
In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.
Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.
It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.
Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.
i’ve been thinking a lot about if johnny would ever let v call him robert
thinking about if johnny has his body back, but has been struggling to fit into the 2077 night city. but at the end of the day, he knows v is there for him, always there
v is his home, he’s safe with them, he feels so comfortable with them
and of course johnny calls them by their name when it’s just them two alone, it just feels right
so one night, johnny is laying down on the couch, his head on v’s lap as they’re playing with his hair and he says “do you mind calling me robert? you know… when it’s just the two of us?” and v just nods, happy, knowing how much johnny saying their name means to them, but also that johnny felt comfortable to even ask that
johnny sheds his full rockerboy persona in front of v and bares his soul to them. they aren’t johnny, famous musician & v, top level merc — they’re robert and valerie/vincent when they’re together, two people so deep in love, knowing everything about each other
one of my favorite little fact about reverse 1999 is that sonetto and sotheby are technically each other's first friends.
like ik sonetto has vertin but idk they js felt more like "acquaintances" or "coworkers" rather than friends, especially in chapter 1 (tho I guess as time progresses they ofc grew closer w each other).
also I LIVE for this cute detail when the storm started happening
it's js so cute to see sonetto rushing to sotheby's side after mr. karson died to comfort her. i might be overanalyzing but idk i think this js goes to show how sonetto became quite fond of the girl

Miles was doing his math homework at his desk while his boyfriend laid out on his bed with one of his sketchbooks and some of his markers.
"Hey, luv, what ya, think 'bout a dog with 3 eyes in ya art book?" Hobie asked, making Miles look over at him. "Hm, I wouldn't mind. You just draw whatever you want, Hobie. I'll either add to the page or leave it alone," Miles said with a smile as he turned back to his homework.
Hobie smiled and looked down at the sketchbook page, "Alright thank ya, sunflower." He said before flipping to the first page and seeing a self-portrait that Miles drew of himself. That's when he got to work, draw on the white spaces of the page, and he never drew the same thing twice. He smiled at his little doodles before flipping to an empty page and drew out a picture of him and Miles.
Time skip♡
"I'm sorry we didn't get to spend a lot of time together Hobie, this vision work is sumping me." Miles said as he watched hobie slip his boots on, "It's fine sunflower," Hobie said, sliding his mask over his hair and eyes. "I love just being around you." Hobie said before kissing Miles forehead and climbing out his window. Miles smiled before shutting his window and walking over to his bed where his sketchbook and markers sag.
Miles picked up his sketchbook about to lay it on his desk when he saw the drawing of two stick people in the middle of a page with a heart in the middle of them at the bottom of the page it said, "A punks flower" Miles smiled at the page before picking up his pencil and a few markers. He then began to sketch out the faces of both him and Hobie. Keeping a distance between his sketch and his boyfriends art, not wanting to ruin Hobie's art.
Basically these 2 are the embodiment of giving a reality check.
Reminder: most people dont notice but they are not the villains of the movie. Just an antagonistic force against the protagonist that push him forward yet eventually both earning mutual respect.
