Finished rereading the lost hero and it was certainly a book. Its weird because it follows the riordan formula pretty well and yet i was so underwhelmed for the most part. Like Jason is afraid of letting people down but it doesnt really amount to anything. Leo is... like that. Piper cant stop being Not Like Other Girls and also dragging out the keeping the truth from her friends plot until the last possible second like... girl pls just tell them about ur dad

#i know the not like other girls things is mostly an issue with riordan writing teen girls #but duuuuuudddeee #its been like 10 years and i still just cant find it in me to like piper #shes just so quirky and different and also a great friend and sassy and secretly awesome and perfect and everyone actually loves her like!! #i didnt mind her having issues with her dad or that kind of stuff #but every chapter is her flip flopping between severe insecurity and being great at everything #like we're just told at some point that shes super powerful and then she is #i kinda like jason #i respect him and hes a good guy #and his character makes sense #but im underwhelmed #alas he is just a very classic typical hero #leo actually has an super fascinating backstory and character arc #aside from the cringey stuff i genuinely find his backstory really enjoyable
