platonic relationship things to consider: family/found family.
ready go.
#DCB Comments#bc like I love my OTPs yes yes I do but I also love familial relationships#in fact I've always loved the idea of Dimi and Felix bring like adoptive brothers kinda#bc Lambert and Rodrigue were Extra Close and then it could make them a lil family#but then you get to add Glenn and Ingrid in if you do that#and since Roddy and Lamby were close friends with Matthias then you stick him in#and that sticks in Sylvain and Miklan too#and oh look you have a whole family of people both with some romance in there and some platonic love#bc listen I stick my platonic Sylvain and Dimi friendship in a LOT of my dmcl fics#basically Dimi and Claude are all uwu in luvvies cuddle cuddle smoochies#but Sylvain is also like the local Dimi caretaker and if Dimi needs anything he'll be like nyoom right over#to me Sylvain and Dimi have one of the best and strongest platonic relationships in the whole game#so I love sticking it into my ship fics bc Dimi doesn't just have his romance going for him#but also his love for Sylvain and Sylvain's love for him as best friends#like sure Claude would never let anything happen to Dimi but that doesn't mean Sylvain would do anything less for Dimi#I basically have this headcanon that when Felix and Dimi grew apart as they got older that Sylvain became Dimi's best friend over time#mainly based on the facts within the games that we get between Sylvain and Dimi's interactions#but also I love Rodrigue and Dimi's relationship too! I LOVE the way they see each other as father and son#I LOVE when Rodrigue tells Dimi stories about Lambert and talks to him like a father who is proud to tell his kid some stories#and I love the idea of Sylvain and Miklan making up and just... awkwardly trying to be brothers again in AG/GW#or even AUs for Houses where Miklan survives and Sylvain tries to fix things bc he sees how much like say#Felix loves/loved his own older brother and Sylvain is sad with all these ppl around him with siblings who are close#and Sylvain is like man I want that too :/ and he wonders if he appeals hard enough to Miklan that Miklan will kinda open his eyes?#and maybe even grow out of his hatred for his situation bc depending on how Sylvain acts around him#Miklan might start to realize his hatred is misplaced and he was the one in the wrong and maybe even feel a bit bad about it#if Sylvain took the first steps I think Miklan could follow even if it's rocky and difficult at first#platonic relationships are GOOD and even for me irl I value my best friend more than having a romance in my life#I don't date and I was never the type to do so bc I don't pursue nor care about romance#I love my ships in fiction but irl forget it. I don't need nor want romance. I'm a hopeless romantic for fiction only lol#but I loooOOOOVE my family stuff and distant families becoming closer

Something to add to your dimiclaude post: there's also a reference in AG when Dimitri says: "And Claude told me we would meet again". I thought it was a nice callback to Claude's departure in AM, when he says to Dimitri: "Let's promise to meet again." :)
Yes! It always makes me wish we got to see them meet again post AM. Maybe even in AG, we could see Claude change his mind about the Church and everything when he sees how Dimitri governs. For AG he was already making progress since the war happened later, but with AM maybe Claude would contact him sooner when he learns about Fodlan's progress. They could work on things together and they could do that in both games when they meet again. 🥺
I love how close they seem to be despite how little screentime they get together, and how implicitly they trust each other. 🥺
OH YEAH and something else I forgot to add in my ask reply!!!
In VW after Gronder, Claude specifically worries about Dimitri and is really sad about what happened to him. He could've said he wondered what happened to the people from Faerghus, or at least their BL classmates, but he mentions Dimitri by name and wants to know what happened to him. When Hilda starts to explain what happened to Dimitri, she starts crying a lot for him and Claude shows sadness too, which is very rare for him. Most of the others weren't really thinking about what happened to him, but it affects Claude even though he didn't see it happen (like, Hilda of course is affected because she saw it happen and she must've known Dimitri at least a little bit to be so sad for him).
Listen, they care each other, okay. 🥺

You know, when you consider Azure Moon as a self-contained narrative, the use of ‘unanswered questions’ and ambiguity as a reinforcement of the themes of the route are really effective. I honestly think having the route not address the Slithers was the best narrative choice IntSys could possibly have made given the themes of Azure Moon.
Like. The developers didn’t really expect people to actually play all the routes; they designed the game so ‘everyone would have a different experience.’ As a result, all the routes have very different themes and scopes. Azure Moon is the tightest, most character-driven narrative despite not being the shortest route.
And Azure Moon is about grief.
Grief hangs over the entire route; except for Mercedes, every single one of the Blue Lions is haunted by the Tragedy of Duscur and the unanswered questions surrounding it. Felix loses his brother directly, and his worldview and best friend to the aftermath. Ingrid loses her fiance, but also her sense of security; without Glenn, her people may starve, and her personal future is now uncertain. Sylvain and Glenn were the same age, so we can assume they were friends, though his loss is less direct; Sylvain is surrounded by people broken by loss, including his own father. Annette’s father leaves her family in disgrace over being unable to stop the tragedy. Ashe loses his foster brother to the aftermath; and later his foster father as well.
Dimitri and Dedue lose everything.
All of them spend the whole route wanting to find answers and some kind of closure for this event. It drives the entire narrative for all of the Lions actually from Faerghus. Mercedes, meanwhile, stands as an outside observer to that tragedy - but she is also dealing with her own personal tragedy and unanswered questions about her brother, and that drives her during Azure Moon.
And the thing about grief is that sometimes you never get closure. But you still have to move on, anyway.
That’s the whole point of Azure Moon. Dimitri has to move on. All the Lions have to move on.
Mercedes cannot regain her brother, whether you find out his identity or not in the route. She has to move on anyway. Dimitri cannot reconcile with his family, not with Rufus (Did Dimitri kill him? We the viewer can never really know for sure) and not with Edelgard. He never finds out whether Patricia wanted to kill his father, or whether she loved Dimitri at all (and we the viewer don’t, either). He has to move on anyway. The Lions never find out the cause of the tragedy.
They have to move on anyway.
Involving the Slithers at that point would not only add a bunch of last-minute narrative complications that aren’t necessary in Azure Moon, it would undermine the emotional impact of the route (in much the same way the last map of Verdant Wind does, honestly). The themes of Azure Moon not only don’t need to answer the question of the Slithers; not answering that question is the point. Bringing up the Slithers at that point would take all the air out of the personal drama the route takes its entire runtime addressing.
Dimitri hesitates at the end. He stops, and tries to look back, and Byleth stops him. He has to move on. He can’t keep looking back at Duscur. He’s got to walk forward.
And that means leaving his questions unanswered.

Saudade (Yandere!Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd/Reader)
A/n: it has been 500 years since I turned off my brain and wrote something out of pure passion lmao dimitri my beloved <333
Unreliable Synopsis: Circumstances won't allow you to be around the crown prince of Faerghus' side, and it wasn't as if you want to be near him either after allying with House Gloucester. Besides, if there was one person you want from your past back, who else would it be other than your old womanizer best friend? (Cw: yandere themes, violence, war)
commissioned by: @poptartsthings (holy sht thank you for making my first commission to be dimitri fic aaAAHHHHH--)
Tumblr media
“You should just send them your letter– say that you’re sorry.”
"Uhuh, but what if he doesn't remember me anymore, Raph?"
"Well," Raphael placed both his hands behind his head, lolling back as he reeled a fish in. "There’s just no way. Based on your stories, I think he’s in love with you, (Y/n). You can't just ignore him forever, ya know?"
You raised an eyebrow, "yes, I can. It's not like there are tons of situations where I need to interact with the crown prince."
"Okay, true... But maaaaaybe you can try eating lunch with him!" Raphael brushed against your shoulder "There's nothing that can get people to open up like a good meal together. Maybe you can steal a seat– oh, and sneak in his favorites on his plate too."
You chuckled softly, "I think that method only works on you, Raph."
"Nonsense!" He said, shaking his head earnestly. "It also works on my baby sister!"
You snorted.
Your housemates are endearing. Truthfully, you never would have expected that it's comfortable in the Golden Deer. Your heart desired to become a Blue Lions graduate like your parents, but familial circumstances or lack-there-of forbade any opportunity. Had life been easier on you, your dorm wall would've sported your family’s blue flag.
And not Gloucester’s.
Since your parents perished in what is now known as the “Tragedy of Duscur”, Count Gloucester assumed responsibility of being your legal guardian. Your parents had always thought of Lorenz’s father as a close ally. Plus, this arrangement was better than living up the frigid north with estranged minor noble relatives who gave you an even more colder shoulder.
However, thread any less carefully around the Alliance, and you might find yourself under his conservatorship forever. You just have to thank the Blue Sea Star that you didn’t bore a crest lest you’d be engaged to Lorenz. Uncle Erwin is a wonderful father to him and he doesn’t treat you with malice either— but of course, he keeps an eye open to morally gray opportunities to exploit your title.
And that includes listing your name amongst the Golden Deers.
At first, you were hesitant in showing that you're an “outlier” in class, but it seems you fit the mold quite easily. Too easily. Not because you had been accustomed to their social norms, it is more like the fawns are oddballs themselves. The youngest was an enchantment waiting to explode, your largest was a total muscle-head, the house leader has a screw loose when it comes to strategic retreat and poisoning, and the rest are just as eccentric.
No one cares if you told them you have an affinity for theater here, and spoilers: they really did not give a damn. Except for maybe when Ignatz genuinely went "oh, that sounds wonderful, (Y/n)!" before the conversation digressed about Leonie's mismatched socks she bought on the market.
Oh, but Raphael and Claude did care when they found out that you might've had a long but faded friendship with at least four of the Blue Lions. Compared to Claude, you trust that Raphael comes from a good place whenever he brings them up. Since he and Ignatz were childhood friends who slowly grew apart, he has your best intentions whenever he suggests something that could reignite your relationship with either Sylvain, Felix, Ingrid, or Prince Dimitri.
Claude, on the other hand…
The house leader first emerged as a shadow, then he sat down and squeezed between you and Raphael, with his arm encircled around your waist. Claude's apparent lack of etiquette went unmentioned by either of you (you suspect Claude is part-Almyran), but you do intend to ignore him later like your "foster brother" does.
"Trading secrets about Prince Dimitri, are we? Won't ya invite poor me along in your little secret meeting?”
You sighed tiredly, "Claude–"
"I was just kidding. No need to give me that face," Claude raised his arms defensively. “My lips are sealed— I never heard a single word between you two, promise.”
The deers were a little leery of your prior association with the crown prince of Faerghus. Claude, who frequently pries into everyone's private affairs, persistently diverted your focus to the Lions. In fact, he once burned your favorite book to forcibly draw your attention to the library so that you'll share the same room with Dimitri. Talk about extremes, really.
But you did notice that there's something off about Claude this time.
“So what brings you here? There’s no way you’ve come here to fish.”
“Yeah, no…” He cringed. “I’d rather do the eating part.”
“Haha, you get it, Claude!” Raphael said before the two men shared a crisp high-five.
Ah, these fawns…
You sighed, “can we skip to the part where you explain why you’re sitting beside me right now?”
“Sure. Leonie wanted me to tell you that Lysithea told her that Lorenz was told by Prof—”
“Do you not know the meaning of “skip”, Riegan?”
“Nah, course I do,” Claude smirked. “It’s just fun to tease people who live in House Gloucester.”
“Sothis, have mercy.”
“As I was saying, Lorenz was told by Professor Byleth to tell you that Sylvain is now part of the Golden Deer.”
“…”
“…”
“…”
“… What?”
There was no dramatic gasp. Nothing sensational or derogatory comment was elicited from impetuous lips. You simply blinked and said the words "what? as if it were a simple joke. Claude needn’t explain that those were facts. Based on how he approached with worry written on his face that he failed to hide from you, he wasn't jesting.
You're reluctant to speak with Sylvain. You last spoke to him in earnest four years ago. Don't get it twisted, you do want to get back in touch with that philanderer's good graces, but where would you even start?
Dear Sylvain, I’m sorry for ignoring your letters? Dear Sylvain, I’ll reimburse you for all the theater tickets you gifted before without my consent? Dear Sylvain, I’m a garbage best friend?
… Knowing him, he’d likely frame that letter with careful preservation while the ink from his heaps of love letters faded inside his shelf collection. If you were to send similar letters to the other two, Felix would train to become a mortal savant and burn the letter out of spite, and Ingrid would have simply torn them up.
“WOAH!!!”
Raphael's chest caught your attention for a brief moment, and you quickly avoided him, concerned that those wooden buttons will suddenly protrude into your eyes. Your housemate captured the fish without even feeling his buttons tear apart from his outfit.
Goddess Messenger.
That’s quite an expensive catch right there.
But it felt like an omen for something.
“… I’m heading back to my dorm room.”
“Want us to go with you?” Raphael offered, but he reeked of fish.
“No, I’ll head there alone.”
Claude tilted his head, “Sylvain is probably there, you know.”
“I know,” you nodded. “But I’m tired.”
“I just can’t run away from the lions anymore.”
Tumblr media
You should’ve taken your words literally.
Instead, the phrase "I need to get over this, fast" resonated in your thoughts, and you bolted as soon as the impulse to settle everything fueled your anxiety. You should have cared if someone got in your way, but you didn't.
“Ngh—” you flinched, bumping into someone’s back. “Whoops— sorry about that—”
You froze as you looked up.
Great. Just your luck.
“… What is there to be forgiven, (Y/n)?”
And of course, he called you by your first name. Your arguments against Raphael were demonstrably false. A futile hoax. Why even try to imagine that he might have forgotten about you?
Dimitri smiled softly, his eyes crinkling in delight. You gulped shakily.
After all, how can the crown prince ever forget his first love?
Now that you took a good look, his hair was much shorter than how it used to be and he grew positively taller. It’s a haircut you took a while to get used to, especially since you recalled how his hair used to hover near his shoulder. Not that you didn’t know about any of this information already. It’s just that you had to reassess those facts after seeing him up close. Perhaps a bit too close for comfort.
If only your last memories with him were as pleasant as his face.
He wanted you as his consort, but you had nothing to offer him. No land, no worthy title befitting for a king’s spouse, and no true inheritance in your arsenal at age 15. But when one has less to lose, they become more introspective. While clinging to Sothis' statue and pleading for life, they gain wisdom. Unlike the prince, you were not naive to what could befall the kingdom if you were to marry him. Instead, you sought asylum by knocking on Uncle Erwin’s door with the few loyal servants to House (L/n) left, and he accepted your offer after days of consideration.
His name will be tarnished as a young traumatized prince who copes by spoiling a love unrequited. But most of all? The loss of his friends and family would’ve developed his separation anxiety towards you more if you stayed.
The prince was something of a doormat teenager. He begged and nearly cried when you had accidentally slipped out that you’ll be allying with House Gloucester– but stopped his outburst the moment you chewed him out with hurtful phrases. Dimitri clung onto you like an affectionate pup and if his childhood self could latch on for the rest of his life, he would in a heartbeat. Perhaps it was the side-effect of being his first friend. He had always been a genuinely kind person, but he was always so caught up in whatever happened in the past.
Was it rational or heartless to leave him and the rest of your companions behind? Likely both, if you were to ask El.
That doesn't mean you don't occasionally catch a glimpse of him at the officer's academy. It's hilarious how, after Dedue performed his duties as a vassal, Dimitri now had to cope with a situation that was identical to yours. A "protector" so dependent… it was as though you were watching the prince try on your shoes. Your “you don’t have to shield me every time we go to the training grounds” line became His Highness’ catchphrase towards his retainer. And you’re not sure what to feel about that.
Was it comedy or plain karma? Likely both, if you were to ask Claude.
“Good evening, Your Highness,” you bowed. There would’ve been more eyes on you inside the cafeteria if you hadn’t. Gossips of lese-majeste would’ve stirred even Lindhart awake. “Do you require something from me?”
Formal.
Too formal for him, but not formal enough for you.
Dimitri's brows wrinkled, and you briefly saw his lip tremble. His hands were behind his back, and one of them was discreetly and firmly gripping his wrist. That man had a pained, speechless expression on his face, and you don't hold him responsible when words fall short.
But when words do fail, you wished he could just stop talking whenever he feels overwhelmed.
“I…”
I miss you. So much.
You didn’t need to hear it to know what he wanted to say.
Princess Edelgard was right, Dimitri is wholly predictable.
He cleared his throat, ears turning red.
“It had been so long since we had last spoken, has it not?”
“It has.”
“Around 4 years, so I'd say.”
“Hmm. So it has,” you doubt he noticed how your words were curt and redundant, since he's too busy trying not to melt. “So it has.”
“Are you enjoying the Golden Deer house, s-so far?” Dimitri manufactured a smile. “I’ve heard you and Lorenz made for a wonderful tag team at the last House Tournament.”
Bullshit.
He didn’t just “hear” about it.
You saw him cheer for you giddily in that tournament.
There is nothing he can conceal from you. If he were as cunning as Claude, it might take you some time to discover who was responsible for leaving sloppy, "anonymous" love letters inside your dorm. There were also petals tucked inside. Pink camellias, a sign of longing.
“It’s a feat not worthy of your praise, your Highness.”
Seriously, you don’t want to hear him flatter you anymore.
“Simply untrue,” he shook his head earnestly. “I’ve also heard that—… Y… You are fond of Raphael. As a friend— of course. It’s relieving to know that you have many companions from different walks of life— which is to say, I approve of whoever you talk to, but—”
You’re not deaf. You noticed how much his words were about your relations with others. There’s no other interpretation to this other than jealousy.
Still, his face was red. He must be too caught up in the joy of talking to you that he didn’t care for how envious his words sounded. You laughed curtly. You want to remind him the reason why you left, but you can’t explain a thing despite desperately wanting to, just like him.
Dimitri wants you back, so much so that he's stuttering in every sentence.
But you didn’t reply to his ramblings. Save for the cafeteria hall’s chatter, it was silent. You’ve long accepted in your heart that your family is dead and you ought to coast forward.
And there’s no future where you will cut through a path beside Dimitri.
Besides, House (L/n) had histories of trading tactics with Leicester, and you cannot discount how people refer to your blood as sheeple with its loyalty. It’s a double-edged sword, one you’d utilize well if you close your eyes right now and ignored the heartbreak and yearning in his eyes.
And so, you closed your eyes.
“My apologies, I’m in a hurry so I’m afraid I have to get going. Farewell, Your Highness.”
Dimitri's eyes widened, trying to reach for your arm.
“(Y/n), please wait–”
But you were already gone.
Tumblr media
“Hey there, (N/n)!”
It was only when you heard a familiar voice did you open your eyes again.
An attractive and familiar young man lazily leaned on one hand on your door, completely blocking your dorm room. “Are you gonna talk to me now, or are you just going to ignore me for the rest of the school year?”
He’s here.
You steeled yourself.
“Gautier…” You exhaled.
“Oof, “Gautier”, they said,” he frowned. “Not a single “I miss you, Sylvain”? No “gosh, sorry I didn’t talk to you for so long, I was just too shy to admit that I was wrong!”?”
You chuckled nervously.
“Perceptive as ever, I see.” But you weren’t wrong. Becoming a Golden Deer was the right path for you.
“Not perceptive, but hopeful really,” Sylvain shrugged. “Based on that reply, I’m glad my wishful thinking was spot on. You do miss me.”
“I do, but I now just realized I’m not prepared for this conversation,” you said, surprised by your upfront and composed anxiety. That talk with Dimitri seriously drained all the energy you garnered earlier. “Can we do this later?”
“No can do. I shall allow you passage if thee speaks from the heart,” he teased with his signature ladykiller grin. “Go on, say it~”
You sighed, burlesquely exasperated.
The two of you adore theater, so talks like these were commonplace. He’d mask his flaws when confessing sins in this manner, but you prefer to hear his real justifications. In any case, this is just another conquest for him to gad off and hunt some girls in another house— and your new professor is undoubtedly a sight to behold.
“Oh, Sylvain, mine dear friend, thou art missed for nearly half a decade, but mine fear did not condone myself to reach out.”
Like two birds of a feather, you also similarly mask your sentimentality.
Funny how you can easily say you miss Sylvain, but not Dimitri.
Sylvain smiled. Genuinely, this time.
“Good.”
The resolution was surprisingly fast. You were willing to bet you both anticipated a serious confrontation– a meeting that feels like a long-awaited class reunion after a war or so. But no.
The two of you are still flawed yet perceptive idiots after 4 years of not talking.
You both laughed in unison.
What were you worrying about anyway? You knew that at this point if Sylvain was angry at you for leaving, he should have grown tired of that emotion.
His primary grudge had always been the crest system, not you.
You should've had this talk earlier, he's the only one in the Blue Lions you were sure won't blame a crestless noble like you for those circumstances.
“Now move, Gautier.”
He stepped aside smugly.
You opened your mouth in surprised indignation.
“Why does my room look clean?”
“I had Mercedes help me clean it up the moment I took a look inside. Seriously, I can’t believe you managed to live in a complete pigsty—”
“It’s like you want to sour our reestablished friendship in under 5 minutes, Sylvie.”
“...”
“What? Too old to be called Sylvie nowadays?”
“No, keep calling me that,”
Sylvain never stopped smiling.
“Oh, and by the way? I miss you too, (N/n).”
Tumblr media
“… There you are.”
As soon as Sylvain left the hall to your dorm, he was greeted by the sight of the crown prince lingering in front of the stairways. Unlike Sylvain, he was not leaning on anything while waiting. The prince stood straight, dignified.
Then again, Sylvain knew his royal motivations lie in jealousy— and that’s far from “dignified.”
Sylvain can tell from his stiff stance that Claude was particularly touchy-feely earlier, which was exactly why he requested Lorenz to relay the message instead rather than the house leader. His Highness must’ve seen how close you sat beside Raphael and then Claude. The Golden Deer's leader knew Dimitri was obsessed with you— he probably intended to provoke him for the upcoming Battle of Eagle and Lion. It didn't help that Dimitri had his eyes on you, always. If not him, then Dedue.
Not that Claude's scheme will work. Dimitri was satisfied just to see you smile, even when it pains him to acknowledge that it wasn’t for him or because of him.
Sylvain is an exception to that rule.
Dimitri had a cold glint in his azure eyes, but his gaze all but glared at Sylvain. He had a smidgen of control, for now. But it’s not long until what Sylvain had prophesied about the crown prince quipping a remark or two about staying away from you will occur.
“Waiting for me to explain my random decision, I’m guessing?”
“Oh, I simply liked standing here but sure, Sylvain! I’d dearly love to know the rational thought behind switching houses out of the blue. It is not as if Felix and Ingrid were worried about you,” Dimitri generously gave his princely smile.
Sometimes, Sylvain forgets it was physically possible for someone so austere with himself like Dimitri to say something laced with malicious sarcasm. But Sylvain knew Dimitri stood there because he was still worried about his friend, even when he pretends to be unbothered.
Like bread and butter, Dimitri and forced positivism complement each other disastrously well. The Blue Lions often caught him murmuring things like "I'm delighted (Y/n) is making new friends" or "I hope Claude continues to treat them well" despite having a glum expression on his face, obviously bottling up his envy. Felix finds it as easy as breathing to call him out on this behavior: "Why bother stalking them when you can't handle the envy you feel when they hugged Lorenz or held hands with Marianne? ”
His Highness never answered that question. He thinks had kept his feral thoughts at bay most of the time and will continue to do so.
Still… Raphael, Claude, and then Sylvain… Dimitri can’t catch a break.
Why do all these men keep approaching you?
Will you never recognize the perpetual anguish that befall him the moment you didn't reach for his hand and took Count Gloucester's that day? Have you no sympathy for the man that promised your protection— for the boy you trained and sneaked out when you thought the king wasn't looking? Whenever he wakes up the following morning without you, do you not experience the same emptiness and loneliness that he does?
Was it because he is a "troubled prince" nowadays?
Was it because he couldn't taste anything anymore?
Why did you eat saghert and cream with Ignatz instead of him at the cafeteria?
Why did these men have to ruin the one taste he can recall?
He lies awake every night to the sound of phantom screams from fallen soldiers, friends, and family against his hand-covered ears.
But you were his solace. His “God/dess”.
And just like with the Goddess Sothis, he lacked the means to grasp your hand...
If only his cold hands could wring those men's necks as well...
“... Do you really want to know, Your Highness?”
It took Dimitri a while before he snapped out of his trance. His voice dipped low, his breathing uneasy, and his eyes lacked focus.
Sylvain looked at him with pity Dimitri wished you spared him instead.
“Yes,” he exhaled. “It shall help our friends put their minds at ease.”
“Well, well, you're sure it's not because you'll miss me?”
“Sylvain.”
“Okay, fine, I’ll tell you,” Sylvain dreamily gazed up at the sky and boldly proclaimed:
“The new professor was hot.”
“Sylvain!—”
“Calm down, Your Highness! That was just a joke.”
Unlikely.
“I joined because (Y/n) is there.”
Dimitri froze.
The meaning behind those words could either be tolerable or impermissible enough to make the prince push Sylvain to the training grounds without remorse.
Sylvain’s not going to try and suddenly woo you now, will he?
You did grow more gorgeous after four years after all…
But Sylvain can't have you— Dimitri might just lose it. Out of everyone on campus, he refuses to let an adamant skirt-chaser take you.
“… Elaborate.”
“Elaborate? What’s there to elaborate?” Sylvain crossed his arms behind his back, now back to his laissez-faire attitude in life. He cackled to himself, absolutely unrepentant. “Is it bad that I want to reunite with an old friend? You know, before they were your friend, they were mine. Don’t forget that we’re both older than you, Dimitri.”
Multiple considerations led to why Sylvain chose to frolic with the deers rather than squander the school year at the lion’s den. One of these includes avoiding Ingrid’s nagging— he can’t be bothered having a pegasus pecking around while he galavants with (unfortunate) women.
But most of it boiled down to reunite with the one platonic relationship he missed.
Sylvain became Dimitri’s ally through you. Had you not approached Sylvain and Dimitri during one of King Lambert’s birthday celebrations, they wouldn’t have initiated a friendship through a children’s version of a bergamot tea party away from drunken nobility. More opportunities to befriend the prince would’ve likely presented themselves through Ingrid and Felix, but that memory of tiny cups and tea-stained shoes was special because it had you.
Because you were smart and kind enough to drag Sylvain out of his older brother’s schemes of public humiliation under the guise of being “invited” to an audience with royalty.
You were more of a sibling than Miklan ever was.
“By two years,” Dimitri stressed. “You’re only older than me by two years.”
“Your point? Doesn’t change the fact that compared to most students this year, we’re one of the older ones.”
He bit his bottom lip.
Age was one of Dimitri’s insecurities. It cannot be helped— if he were only older, people would’ve listened to his testimony for the people of Duscur more seriously— if he were only older, he would’ve had control over his uncle—
Dimitri’s knuckles grew white underneath his gloves.
If he were only older, then maybe you would’ve stayed by his side.
“What a lark. Are you attempting to compete on who had a better relationship with (Y/n)?”
“No, Your Highness, YOU are.”
Dimitri’s eyes widened. He hadn’t realized that those pointed words he spoke aimed towards himself like a misthrown javelin.
"Let’s be honest, Your Highness. I’m saying this as a friend, but you could be a bit tone-deaf and insufferable around them,” Sylvain deadpanned. “You had some serious attachment issues and you never listen when they tell you to stop with all those creepy comments about protecting them forever.”
“Is… Is that so?”
Dimitri muttered to himself while looking at his shoes, sounding almost broken. He had doubts, but Sylvain’s words practically cemented that you’d be unwilling to spend time with him again.
“Besides, if this were a competition, you lost the moment I waited at their dorm.”
The prince’s head snapped back up like a confused puppy.
“Why is that?”
What a horrible thing to ask.
“Because (Y/n) just told me that they missed me,” Sylvain smirked.
“And if you were there, you could’ve heard them call me Sylvie too, just like the good old days.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since that talk with Sylvain, Dimitri wanted to make you as lonely as him.
Oh, how he badly wanted to whisk you away from that house– oh just how much he wished he could force you to wear his cape– to wear the color of the lions.
But none of that matters now.
You look prettier when doused in splattered red.
The soil sipped the blood that drained from Ignatz's head. It reminded you of the time you asked the painter if he could use blood as a dye. If he were to watch this scene, he would've waxed poetic about how he will be simply returning his life to the earth, but the beauty of death is lost on you. The gravity of war weighed far more than the theatrics of what-he-would've-spoken.
It’s been five years since the war started.
You had lost your voice two years ago the moment Dimitri kidnapped you on your expedition to Garreg Mach— you’ve mistaken him for a bandit and in a blind rage, he dealt a massive blow to your neck. Dimitri didn’t mind that you had lost your ability to speak he seemed to relish that you’re similarly deformed. He romanticized both your disabilities often. A “God/dess” who couldn’t speak and a “boar” who couldn’t quite see. What a royal pair indeed…
You can’t say your prayers now, but you hoped thinking about praying for Ignatz was enough…
Ignatz should've turned 22 this year. Based on the way he last behaved, he didn't seem prepared for this war and had been misplaced by Professor Byleth.
You’ll never be able to eat saghert and cream with him again.
You can't remember what tactic you used in this battle. Was it Felix who was assigned to stick ten feet away from you who had slain Ignatz? Or was it Ingrid who rode her pegasus to stab the sniper in a suicidal fashion?
This entire battle is a blur. You can no longer stand straight and aim your sword reluctantly toward anyone.
Why can't everything go back to how it was before? Why can't you just fish at the Great Bridge of Myrddin with Uncle Erwin again?
You wobbled down the grass as a wyvern obstructed your view with its proud albino scales cruising the sky. Claude sits atop, his face stony through a nearly unrecognizable expression of placid anger. His emerald eyes inevitably met yours.
You didn't stand with your sword supporting you, and he didn't draw his bow either. Instead, before leaving to find the bright red target everyone called an "Emperor", Claude mouthed words that only you two could understand. You uttered nothing in response. Even if Claude were to succeed, his scheme would be futile.
Sylvain can’t save you from Dimitri.
Like a fairytale, it begins and ends with the crown prince. It always had.
But if Dimitri was the protagonist of this story, then pray tell, what does that make you?
A damsel in distress?
The king's court jester?
All you ever wanted was for House (L/n) to survive, to preserve your family name and dwindling territory against House Charon. You desired the opportunity to emulate your father. A fearless front-liner and a skilled tactician.
However, you have not taken any real action to end this war. You moved like a weak infantry, unable to maintain balance on one leg or call out for upcoming danger.
You just can’t run away from the lions anymore.
"Get up."
You couldn't move, mortified.
His Highness is back.
"I said GET UP!!!"
His iron-like hands yanked your hair up, and you felt some of it weeded out by his sheer brute force. You wept immediately but held back tears. Despite your commitment to keeping your composure, he had torn away what little hold you had left on what you call "stability." Your knees shook as his tall figure began to drag you away. Each step felt more jagged than the last. Your heart beat erratically as you worried about toppling down– and when you inevitably did, he was there to pick you up.
For Dimitri, this situation was advantageous. Most Golden Deers are here, which meant he had opportunities to route them all. He had already stabbed Ignatz, incessantly. Each draw of his lance— each crack of the artist’s glasses and bones— rejuvenated whatever youth war had stolen from him. The future king of lions couldn’t stop grinning maniacally as his eyes lay upon a deer’s corpse. It was as if his sense of taste was coming back. All of his soldiers and classmates were too terrified to stop his senseless slaughter. If Gustave did not scold him about the oncoming army, he would’ve continued damaging the corpse senselessly.
But it’s only a matter of time until he shoots for the leader of the herd as well.
He still hasn’t forgiven him for using his beloved against him back at the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. This was the perfect opportunity for revenge. Once they’re out of the picture, then it’s only Edelgard left who he had to worry about— but until then, he’ll have to take the deers’ lives for stealing his beloved away.
Shame that Lorenz had yet to be found.
"Tch. Fool."
He cradled you like a bride but gripped your jaw like a hostage. Dimitri's current appearance is much too different from what he used to be. Sweat and blood had greased up his unruly hair, and the blue cloak that was slung over his shoulders was much dirtier.
"I command you to eat."
It was almost sweet. Almost kind when his voice softened for just a millisecond. Almost touching how his one eye gazed upon your sunken features with disdain.
But your appreciation for it all vanished the moment he robbed something from Ignatz's corpse.
"Eat."
He shoved onto you Ignatz's last bloody loaf of bread. It was hard, yet soaked.
Your throat couldn't express how terrified you were upon holding it.
"Gone deaf as well, have we?"
He pushed the bread closer to your chest, effectively crushing it against you. Dimitri breathed against your ear.
"I SAID: EAT.”
Your tears and Ignatz's blood salted your food.
The bread tasted just like the ones Raphael's family had in their inn.
Ignatz… He probably got this from Raphael… Which means he's in Gronder as well…
You sobbed as you took a feeble bite.
Please… Please be safe, Raphael.
Dimitri saw your struggle. He saw your continued concern for those who were after his life and yours. Why do you spare sympathy for the bodies that got in the way between you and him? They did not warrant those tears. The weak must fall— even he too will join them someday.
And so, Dimitri closed his eye.
You’ve gone fragile in his arms, and that was not spoken in a romantic sense. He had fractured your right leg enough to make you use your sword as a cane, yet he insists on dragging you in combat. Time and time again, he forces you to witness what he is capable of and more till you’re unable to write complaints.
Dimitri wanted to reassure you that you’re on the right side of history.
That you can cut a path beside him— you just weren’t trying hard enough before.
And it was a challenge the prince can’t easily scale. You never showed your appreciation for longer than a minute. When he learned how to dance begrudgingly with El after she had poisoned him with thoughts that he could use her teachings someday to dance with you— you dared to ask Sylvain out during the White Heron Cup. When he tried to give you a more fancy dagger as well during El’s parting, you admired Sylvain’s coincidental parcel of theater tickets and tea leaves instead.
Sylvain, Sylvain, Sylvain—
It was always Sylvain.
His entire body shook from laughter. You shriveled in fear as his voice echoed throughout the battlefield.
The beast put you down underneath a tree's shade that he deemed as safe.
… and kissed your forehead.
“I can see him approaching us.”
Dimitri cooed mockingly.
“Shall I decapitate and mount that filthy rat's head on a silver plate?”
You didn’t need to hear him utter his name to know he was referring to Sylvain. It was tempting to challenge him on how he could say such a thing about someone who had once been a friend, but that inquiry wouldn't help. Dimitri cupped your face and wiped your tears away with his rough and heavy hands. You flinch so easily nowadays.
How adorable.
Five years ago, you won't move a muscle whenever he kissed your forehead good night.
Five years ago, he worried about accidentally waking you up and exposing himself for breaking into your dorm so often just to drop his unhinged love letters.
Five years ago, watching you rest allowed moments of respite.
However, it didn’t invigorate him as much as your tears did now.
“Fret not, my fellow monster, I shall fetch it for you,”
He tightened his grip on his areadbhar, scanning the right field. The lance's crest stone glowed, and there was no looking back after that.
You’re here now, and he will NEVER let you leave. He won’t have a repeat of what had occurred when Count Gloucester was present around nine years ago or so. He’ll protect you this time, and it no longer mattered to him if he were a corpse or a monster in your eyes. It mattered not that he no longer slept. He intends to keep you alive and by his side, just like what he had promised in his childhood.
You can't even begin to imagine how much being away from you ruined him.
He had reached the point where he will kill everyone that tried to touch you, and he won’t have someone else do it, too.
Was this love or obsession? Likely both, if you were to ask Lady Rhea.
But what does Rhea know about Dimitri’s mental state anyways? She’s been missing for years now, she might as well be dead to you.
Without thinking, you grabbed his cloak. He patted your head but his eyes were locked on the cavalry unit from afar, and the dark and sinister smirk on his face solidified your fears.
Sylvain approached faster, and you did your best not to cry.
If he dares to fight Dimitri in the state he is now, then he might as well be a dead man walking too.
You wished you didn’t have to join the Golden Deer house— you wished Sylvain didn’t follow suit— and you wish you didn’t leave Sylvain behind. You did not doubt that if it hadn’t been for you, Dimitri would have concentrated only on Edelgard and joined forces with Claude to eliminate her. It would have given this historical period a more coordinated scheme. History won’t have to remember you as the catalyst that made things worse.
"(N/n)!"
You heard Sylvain yell from behind Dimitri, which only made your heart ache more.
It's been years since you last heard his voice again.
Dimitri took your warm hands and brushed his cheek against it, no matter how obvious it was that your eyes yearned for someone else’s touch.
He looked at you with such a soft gaze that you nearly forgot the monster he had become.
“Once we hang his head on our bedroom wall, you have no right to complain about missing “Sylvie” ever again, my beloved.”

What really makes the Blue Lions such interesting and well-written characters is how they’re bound by trauma. Of course, other houses also have characters who have sad or traumatic backstories, but the Blue Lions is the only one that it applies to the entire house. And it’s always so deeply rooted into the way that these characters act and why they do the things that they do.
Dimitri-Sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur. Lost his parents and dear friend. And then developed a severe case of PTSD to the point where he was haunted by illusionary ghosts of his loved ones to get revenge. And constantly fighting against himself to keep his darker tendencies reigned in.
Felix-Lost his older brother in the tragedy. And then growing to hate chivalry and lashing out against it in every way possible, and having to look at chivalrous concepts in the most cynical way to cope with Glenn’s death. Since Glenn himself highly valued chivalry.
Ingrid-Lost her fiancée (and close friend, feel like people forget about this aspect too much tbh) in the tragedy. And since she didn’t see his death and idolized Glenn so much had to force herself to believe that he died in an ideal way and wishing to replicate it herself.
Sylvain-Was already being tormented by his brother on multiple occasions and then lost a close friend and had to watch his other best friends struggle with their grief and trauma to the point of developing self-destructive tendencies. A behavior which he was most likely already exhibiting himself at that point.
Dedue-Lost his parents and sister. Had his race genocided. Has an extreme lack of self-worth due to the prejudice of his people. And accepts all of the hatred thrown at him in spite of him and most of Duscur being innocent because some Duscur people were involved.
Annette-Was abandoned by her father (due to the tragedy) and worked herself to the bone tirelessly for years in pursuit of finding him. To the point where it reaches extremely unhealthy levels. And she has to actively try to take it easy. Because she’s just become so accustomed to it.
Ashe-Lost his birth parents and had to turn to thievery to keep his younger siblings fed. His adoptive older brother was executed for conspiring in the tragedy. And due to Lonato adopting and saving him, Ashe develops an extremely idealistic perspective where he wants to help everyone and believe in the best in everyone, despite how things might seem.
Mercedes-Her father was a terrible person (don’t really want to get into that cause trigger warning stuff). And she and her mother had to escape leaving her little brother behind. Said little brother became a deranged serial killer who was beyond saving. And she has an extremely caring and motherly personality to all of her fellow Lions, probably due to the fact that she wasn’t able to save her brother, which she definitely regrets a lot.
They’re all such extremely broken, traumatized, and flawed individuals. But that’s exactly what makes them so interesting. These characters who’ve already been put through the ringer before the start of the story. And then are challenged even more during the story itself. It’s all the more satisfying when you see them push through together, overcome their flaws, and then end up victorious. The more adversity a character has, the more sweeter it is when they’re finally able to achieve their goals at the end. And that’s why, the Blue Lions are such an interesting and well-rounded house of fantastic characters.
Heck, same thing goes for Rodrigue, Gilbert, and Catherine. But I feel like this post is already too long as it is XD.
TL;DR: The Blue Lions and even Faerghus characters in general are extremely well-written.

My Analysis of the Best Paired Endings in 3H (Part 16: Mercedes/Dedue)
Tumblr media
Mercedes: If I were someone else, perhaps a commoner without a Crest or stature, maybe things would be different. It's a bit sad, but…this is the way things have to be. After all, only the goddess can decide our fates.
Each character in the Blue Lions was a victim of Faerghus's patriarchal culture. Mercedes was adopted for the purpose of being married off for her Crest. The Crest of Lamine is associated with the arcana of Judgement. It represents an important decision that needs to be made regarding love and romance. It also symbolizes a solution to a protracted problem, and a feeling of freedom.
Mercedes was separated from her brother at a young age and had to make a new life for herself in the Kingdom. What got her through those hard times was the support of the church. That's why her dream was to work there to help people, just as they did for her. But doing so would be difficult if she married a nobleman.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: Though, just because two people share a promise, that doesn't guarantee they'll be together forever. You've noticed many nobles at the academy, right? They very rarely have the freedom to choose their own partners.
Mercedes had a lot in common with Ingrid. She did not want to give up on her dream to be used as a broodmare for her Crest, like her mother was. However, she felt like she had no choice.
Byleth: You can't just give up on your dreams. Mercedes: That's a very good point! We're only given one life, so we must do all we can to pursue our happiness! OK! I think that may have been just the push I was looking for! I'll tell him the truth. That I've found a life worth pursuing and I must decline the proposal! Maybe I should tell him I've fallen for someone else?
Mercedes had difficulty standing up to her adoptive father. She was willing to lie to him by telling him that she had fallen for someone else. That might explain many of her pairing options.
Tumblr media
Ferdinand: You baffle me. Do you not wish to be free? Mercedes: Of course I do. Let me try that again in a way you might understand. Ahem. A true noble cuts their own path, seizing freedom from the clutches of tyranny!
I suspect that the reason she rejected Ferdinand's help to sever ties with her adoptive father was because she wasn't sure if his gesture was an attempt to woo her. She wasn't sure if she would have the will to decline if he proposed. In their paired ending, she severs ties with her adoptive father and marries him immediately after the war. She lives the traditional life of a noble wife while her husband is recognized for his achievements.
Mercedes: I don't care to flaunt my noble past or my Crest. I have no desire to return to that status. Lorenz: Then, if I may speak hypothetically a moment… Does that mean that if a nobleman were to offer you his hand in marriage, you would decline? Mercedes: Not at all. That's a separate matter entirely. Even if I were to fall in love, regardless of their social status… I'm not looking to marry right now.
Even by the end of their A-Support, she still didn't seem to like Lorenz very much. She was unusually sarcastic with him. And she specifically said she wasn't ready to marry even if she was in love. But it is still possible that she will marry Lorenz immediately after the war. It shows how difficult it was for her to deviate from her path.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: …No, I'm glad. I feel like I saw your true face for the first time. …Hey, Sylvain. Would you be able to save me from the curse of my Crest? Sylvain: I…I'll save you! With my heart and soul! I love you! Great! Let's get married!
Mercedes also had a lot in common with Sylvain, and the two actually became close friends. They are both Gemini, the zodiac sign which is thought to be two-faced because of their natural duality.
Mercedes: Don't be ashamed of crying. I'm here to protect you. Will you protect me in return? Sylvain: I will. I promise. You know, Mercedes, you really are a special lady.
Because Mercedes was able to empathize with his pain, he let the mask slip with her, and she saw his other face. Because of that, she was also the only character to see him cry. She wanted him to save her from her arranged marriage, and she had a genuine desire to save him from that fate, too. So, she is one of the very few women Sylvain is able to marry and have a paired ending with.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: You're much the same, yes? People like us have to try to bloom as best we can. Sylvain: Never really thought of myself as a flower, but I get what you're saying. Flowers are stuck in the same spot for life, whether they like it or not. And if they happen to sprout in a bad area, they're out of luck. But we have legs, not roots. We can go wherever we want.
But Hopes does a good job of showing why that's not the ideal solution to their problems. Even if she did marry him, she would prefer to be doing charity work rather than living the life of a nobleman's wife. Sylvain was fine with that, but Mercedes did not want to stand in the way of him marrying the person he truly loved.
Tumblr media
Sylvain: To be perfectly clear, I'm not making advances on your or anything. But I'm the heir of House Gautier. If I ask you, this other guy will have no choice but to bow out. Though I doubt he'd be happy about it. After that, you can do whatever you want. Go work at a church or ladle out soup or whatever makes you happy. I won't stop you. Mercedes: But that would prevent you from marrying the person you love.
She didn't realize that Sylvain didn't want to get married in the first place. He would be marrying her because she offered him a loophole to his own predicament. With her as his wife, he could fulfill his noble obligation, but still be able to live freely. They cared for each other and shared mutual respect, but neither of them seemed like they would have considered marrying the other without their fathers pushing them into an arranged marriage.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: And before that, when I lived with my mother and my little brother. It also reminds me of the time I spent studying with friends at the school of sorcery in the capital. Things may not have been easy then, but I would give anything to return to those days.
The tagline for the game was, "Sweet memories twisted by time's cruel hand". The best option for Mercedes might seem like recruiting her into Crimson Flower and reuniting her with her brother.
Mercedes & Jeritza Once those who slither in the dark were finally defeated, Mercedes left home and opened a small orphanage in the Faerghus region with her mother. After many years of kind service raising children who had lost their families, she received a letter bearing familiar handwriting. Its author, a prisoner in Enbarr, expressed his sincerest well-wishes to Mercedes and her family. Still more time passed until, one day, the man who wrote the letter paid her a visit. With joyful tears in her eyes, Mercedes smiled, took Emile by the hand, and at last welcomed him home.
And their ending is certainly touching. I was never really a big fan of it, though, because Jeritza's condition is resolved without any explanation. In Mercedes' paralogue, the Death Knight said his soul had long departed. He was not fully in control of himself, which is why he continued to fight on the opposite side from his sister. Before this DLC update, it had been implied that Emile had probably been experimented on like the Remire villagers. He was barely human anymore and it was impossible for him to return to normal.
Mercedes: It's sad, but the truth is that people forget. You may be afraid to forget your past, but you'll never be able to revisit it. Living in the present is the best we can do. We owe it to those who can't come back. Dimitri: If someone had said those words to me five years ago, I would be a different man today.
As sad as it is, Mercedes had a stronger character arc in AM where she had to accept that she's unable to return to the past.
Tumblr media
Annette: You know, I've always loved you more than anything in the world! Mercedes: My, is that…a confession of love? Hehe, I'm so happy~. Annette: Uh, um, I wanted to say I love the sweets you bake more than anything in the world! Mercedes: Oh, is that so... Well, I love you, Annie.
Other than Emile, Annette was the most important person to Mercedes. In their A-Support they both confessed their love for each other. While it did seem like the bisexual Mercedes may have loved her beyond friendship (particularly in the Japanese), Annette seemed insistent on emphasizing her platonic love.
Annette & Mercedes After the war, Annette and Mercedes lived separate lives: the former as a teacher at the school of sorcery in Fhirdiad, the latter as a cleric at Garreg Mach. Though they lived apart, they exchanged letters so frequently and shared their lives with one another in such detail that it was as though they were side by side. After many decades, they resigned their respective positions and reunited at Garreg Mach. In their final years, they relocated to a modest house in the Fortress City. It is said that they were happy together to the very end.
They will not be life partners even if you go for their paired ending. While they do keep in touch, they'll live completely separate lives until retirement age. It's a slightly bittersweet ending, showing how, as we get older and pursue different life paths, things don't always stay the same. I don't consider it to be the most satisfying ending for either of them. Still, the fact that Mercedes will move away from her best friend shows how important it was to her to pursue her dream.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: I just don't want to let go of the life that I've made for myself. I know it's not what my heart wants, but I don't have the strength to say no.
After Garreg Mach fell, Mercedes returned home to the Kingdom capital and joined the merchant business. She told Byleth that she didn't want to give up the life she made for herself in Fhirdiad.
Annette: Since our time in the capital, so much has happened. We've had to make new lives for ourselves, and we've seen at least as many hard times as good. If things keep changing like this, I wonder if we'll be able to stay the same people we are now…
And Annette also didn't want things between them to change by starting completely new lives again, which is what happens in their paired ending.
Dimitri: My own dreams… I have never given it any thought. What about you? What do you want, Mercedes? Mercedes: I want to keep sewing and training with you, even after you've become king. I want to be your friend.
Mercedes even wanted to stay friends with Dimitri after the war, which would only be possible if she kept her old life in the capital.
Mercedes: I'm going to Fhirdiad to meet with my adoptive father, and I'd like you to accompany me. Byleth: What for? Mercedes: I feel the need to set things straight with him in my own way. I've already decided exactly what I'm going to say. I'm choosing to live my life how I want, in pursuit of my own happiness. I need you to accept that. I'm in charge of my own destiny. Not you, not anyone else. Just me. Ah… I've waited so long to say all that.
The best thing for her would be to sever ties with her adoptive father, without the excuse of already having a fiancé. She always left her fate in the hands of the goddess or people above her. But her character arc was about acting of her own free will.
Tumblr media
Dimitri: Do you remember the child who cursed me after my father's funeral? Dedue: Ah, yes. I believe he was the son of a knight who fell in Duscur. Dimitri: He was furious that I would not take revenge on your people, and even more enraged to see you serving as my vassal. He berated me without mercy, demanding I kill you then and there. All I could do was walk away. Everyone desires revenge for that day. Survivors and the dead alike cry out for retribution.
Dimitri was also a victim of Faerghus's violent patriarchal culture. He was expected to carry out vengeance for the Tragedy of Duscur. His violent urges were encouraged and rewarded by the society he grew up in. At times, he was chilled to the bone by the depravity of his own actions, such as suppressing a rebellion.
Dedue: When I stood before those soldiers and their swords that day, I was prepared to die. But then you suddenly appeared, and you shielded me. I knew then that a savior's hand could reach into even the deepest darkness.
Dedue was the biggest victim of Farghus's retaliatory violence. His moniker is "Taciturn Devotee". A devotee is a person who strongly admires a particular person. But it can also mean a strong believer in a particular religion or god. It probably would not be an exaggeration to state that Dedue saw Dimitri as the Fódlan goddess.
Tumblr media
Dedue: And I would cast it aside in an instant if my death were to your benefit. For that reason, I cannot consider myself your friend. There are still many in the Kingdom who despise the people of Duscur. It would be selfish of me to stand by your side as an equal.
Many people interpreted his feelings for Dimitri as having a romantic aspect to them. I certainly wouldn't reject that interpretation. After all, by reaching out his hand, Dimitri served the same role that Byleth did for him.
Dedue: You promised me you would build a Kingdom that is proud to boast of Duscur blood. In this Kingdom, where there is no distinction between the people of Duscur and the people of Fódlan… Will I finally, without reservation, be able to call you my friend? Will I…Dimitri? Dimitri: Dedue… Yes, you will call me your friend, again and again. No matter how many hardships I must endure… Dedue: I will do all I can to bring about that world as well. To be your friend…is what I have always wanted.
During their A-Support, we learned that Dimitri made a promise to Dedue before they attended the Officer's Academy.
Dimitri & Dedue After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and his loyal vassal, Dedue, remained ever at his side. Among Dimitri's achievements was the reconciliation with Duscur: an extraordinary effort that required extensive negotiations to get past a history of betrayal and oppression. It was a trying task, but Dimitri never once considered giving up. While they behaved as lord and vassal in public, it is said that Dimitri and Dedue were more like family in private. When Dimitri finally fell to illness, Dedue tended to his liege's deathbed, and then took up a post at his grave for the rest of his days. When the time came, they were buried beside each other.
Their paired ending emphasizes Dimitri's efforts reconciling with Duscur and how he never gave up. But it does not specify whether the Duscur people were able to proudly live alongside people from Fódlan without distinction. In fact, because Dedue had to behave as a vassal in public, it implies that there was still hostility between Duscur and the Kingdom for the majority of Dimitri's reign. Dedue only gets to stand by Dimitri's side as an equal in death.
Also, there was no mention of Dedue's efforts bringing about the world he wanted to see. It only mentions him serving Dimitri for his entire life as a subordinate, then guarding his grave for the rest of his days. It is not that different from his solo ending, and I don't think it's a particularly satisfying ending for Dedue.
Tumblr media
Dedue: I would regretfully decline. I cannot know happiness without you by my side. I would still seek vengeance. Just… for my own sake, not yours. Dimitri: Interesting. And nothing I say to the contrary will change your mind? Dedue: Your Majesty, can you not live for your own sake? Dimitri: My life is not my own. It belongs to my kingdom, my people, and the dead.
Neither Dimitri or Dedue knew how to live for themselves, and neither could live without the other.
Dedue: I…can still fight, Your Highness. Dimitri: Shut up and retreat. You must live, Dedue.
During his boar phase, Dimitri was willing to mow down any of his old classmates, even if they were not his enemies. And he was willing to send all of his friends and allies to their deaths, too. The single exception was Dedue. He is the only person Dimitri tells to retreat at Gronder Field. And Dedue will live only to seek vengeance.
Dedue: Ngh… I'm not finished yet! Dimitri: Fall back, Dedue! Please! I cannot afford to lose you!
In Scarlet Blaze, Dimitri also begs him to retreat in the Valley of Torment. Dedue would have gladly fought to the death, but Dimitri personally made sure he didn't. It was because he cherished Dedue so much that he wanted him to live for his own happiness.
Tumblr media
Dedue: Someday, I hope to show you a whole landscape of these flowers in full bloom. Byleth: You mean Duscur? Dedue: Yes. Once this conflict is over, and His Highness ascends the throne, I believe it can be done. You must live at least until then. Understood? Byleth: Same to you. Dedue: That's true enough. I had not thought much of my own life, until now. Except that I would gladly cast it aside for His Highness. That is still true, but now I desire to see the end of this war. Until I can show you the fields of Duscur in bloom… I will go on living.
Other than Dimitri, the only other thing that gave Dedue a reason to live was showing Byleth the flowers of Duscur in bloom.
Dedue: When I left the capital, I told His Majesty that I would be leaving his service. Byleth: What?! Dedue: He accepted my decision with a smile.
If you go for Dedue's paired ending with Byleth, you learn that if Dedue were to leave Dimitri's service, he would accept with a smile. And I think Dedue has a better character arc if he is able to grow past his codependence on Dimitri and find his own reason to live.
Tumblr media
Dedue: To Duscur? There is nothing of interest left there. Mercedes: Isn't it where you were born? And isn't it where your wonderful food and stories come from? I think those are reason enough to visit at least once! Dedue: Mercedes… If you will allow it, I would like to accompany you. His Highness would surely grant me leave to go.
When Mercedes asked Dedue what his plans were after the war, he said it was to serve Dimitri for the rest of his days. And in most of his endings, that's exactly what he does, even if he's married. Going with her to Duscur and praying to the gods (and goddesses) of his own culture changed his entire fate. That's probably why his ending with Mercedes is so different compared to all of his others.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: I think a place is only truly destroyed when there's no one left to remember it. You should tell more people about Duscur to keep it alive.
The whole relationship between Mercedes and Dedue revolved around the idea that they could keep their loved ones alive through their memories. He taught her many things about his culture, and she taught him a family recipe that would have otherwise been forgotten.
Dedue: I understand how you feel. I had a younger sister. Sylvain: Had? Oh. Tell me about her. What was she like? Dedue: Hm. She loved flowers, and often made crowns out of them. And once she set her mind to something, nothing in the world could change it.
I really loved their Support in Hopes. It felt exactly like a post-Houses version of their relationship after they had travelled to Duscur and fallen in love. There are rarely any times where Dedue seems happier than when teaching her and the kids to make flower crowns, in memory of his sister. They seem like a married teacher couple, too.

Dedue & Mercedes Two years after the war, Dedue and his wife, Mercedes, opened a school in the Duscur residential district in Fhirdiad. The school educated Duscur children, who had never been given structured learning before, in reading, writing, arithmetic, and even Duscur history. Many years later, when the Duscur people reclaimed their homeland, the people who attended this school were able to resettle there and revive their old culture. Because of this, Dedue and Mercedes were forever renowned by the Duscur.
This is the only ending where Dimitri's promise to Dedue is actually fulfilled, as it mentions the Duscur people having their own district in Fhirdiad. And it just so happens that this is the only paired ending (besides the one with Byleth) where Dedue isn't described as a vassal. He is still living in the capital, so we can assume that he and Dimitri are close friends. But they live as equals. Dedue has his own life now and his own achievements are renowned.
In Hopes, Mercedes said she wanted to go back to Fhirdiad, but not live with her adoptive father. This is the only ending (other than with Dimitri) where she can live her dream, help those in need, and stay in Fhirdiad with her other friends. With Dedue, they get married two years after the war. So, she clearly didn't marry him just to escape her arranged marriage. Dedue and Mercedes bonded over their sense of loss, but they used that pain to keep Duscur alive, so I think it's the absolute best conclusion to their character arcs.

Rules: pick a song for each letter of your url and tag that many people. my url is too long for that lol
I have a playlist for songs I currently listen to, let's see if it's enought to complete this game… there's not a huge variety of artists tho ^^"
A - Appaloosa by Lor S - Sinktank by Inabakumori O - Overdose by Natori (hi minni!!!! I saw a cover of it in one of your asks lately!!! :3) F - fanfiction by Lor (yes, that's a lyrics video on their official channel xd) T - Tail by Sunmi (when will she come back to Poland TT__TT) S - Sweet Dream from Alien Stage by C!naH / by BL8M (I have both versions on my playlist, yeah) P - Post Shelter by Inabakumori O - Order of Silence from Genshin (ost from Cyno's demo) T - Trafalgar Square by Lor F - FightSong by Eve O - Overture from Jesus Christ Superstar 1996 R - Ruler Of My Heart from Alien Stage ( ‼ spoilers from Alien Stage here ‼ cw: blood, violence, death, panic attack) A - agaki (亜ガキ) by Ora (sometimes the background music skips between left and right side and I love it) N - Nonsense Bungaku by Eve G - A Gentleman's Fantasy from Honkai Star Rail (amazing boss theme!!) E - Ezra Was Right by Grandbrothers (this one starts quite slowly, if you're impatient you can start at 3:15 xD) L - Lagtrain by Inabakumori S - $hrek 2 by Lor (cw: guys without shirts fighting at school)
Lor is a Polish band that I recommend with my whole heart :3
many Eve's MVs are like short animes, I love them so so much
the whole Alien Stage is quite short, because it's basically made of music videos and there's less than 10 rn (here's a playlist for anyone interested) (but it can be quite triggering sometimes)
fuck gachas and their gambling, but genshin and star rail have amazing music
here's a very fun fact: I started listening to Eve and Inabakumori last year on April 17 and May 4 respectively, so about a year ago!!

list 5 topics i can talk on for an hour without preparing any material
this one's difficult!!!! because I can endlessly talk about my fandoms and blorbos........only. I don't feel knowledgeable on anything specific, but I could, however, ramble on about my interests
I'm back to that Stardew Valley Grind™ rn so I could talk a lot about my farm. my first farm. year three, winter, and it's probably the ugliest farm you've ever seen. and. and also. my cyhaino sdv au brainrot. 😳
genshin, especially my ultimate blorbo Alhaitham 🌱 idk, I just like this guy, I saw first leaks and I was like 👉 this guy. this is my dude.
my babeys blue lions from fire emblem 3 houses 😭 I chose them in my first playthrough and I still do NOT care about anyone else (that's an exaggeration, I care about others, but... not as much... 😔) also, Sylvain is there and flirty red guys are my ultimate weakness. I know he can, just, switch to your house if you're playing female Byleth (lol), but I don't want to separate him from his friends 😭 they're all traumatised and need hugs
painting and drawing! lately I fell back in love in traditional art and I picked up acrylic painting, and I'm watching a lot of videos and learning a lot - by my own trial and error too, but it's fun!
various handcraft I learned - embroidery, crocheting, knitting, punch needle, sewing - and stuff I created. I don't do all these all the time, only when I feel like it so.....irregularly lol! but I have lots of ideas and some plans, and unfinished works

Could you talk a little more about the complexities of Blue Lions?
I agree that almost everyone puts them down and says they're simple, when in reality they're just as complex as the other houses.
i'm so sorry this took so long (homework is gonna be the death of me i swear) but oh my god anon i love you
in the reblogs of the original post i did expand on them a bit individually but i am absolutely happy to talk about it more
sylvain takes his duty seriously as the future margrave gautier, which is something not a lot of people talk about. he inherits the title in literally every single one of his endings in every route (you can fact check if you want) and it’s said that he does an excellent job helping fódlan regrow and protecting the northern border from sreng in every one of them. his only reservation about it is the existence of his crest and the shit he got because of it, both from strangers and from his brother. he’s also incredibly smart (see: his supports with annette (houses), shez (hopes), his three hopes a support with felix, his three hopes supports with ashe, his three hopes supports with ignatz) and a very caring person/good friend (see: his three houses supports with dedue, mercedes, bernadetta, lysithea, dimitri, and manuela, and his three hopes supports with ingrid, mercedes, felix, dedue, and dimitri). he’s reliable (there’s a ton of evidence to that, especially in three hopes) and it’s established that he’s one of the best tacticians out there. he’s passionate about devaluing crests despite benefitting from them to the outward eye, and is always ready to help when he can. he also has low self esteem and shoves his feelings out of the way. he throws himself into various engagements with women as a form of self-destruction, never allowing himself to actually fall in love with them and treating them like shit so he doesn't get attached. he doesn't see himself as worthy of love, and so he does what he can to taunt himself with the idea with it and then rip it away from himself (see: his supports with byleth, yes, he’s a flirt and that is a big aspect of his character, but it’s not the only aspect, which more people need to acknowledge.
felix also takes his role as duke seriously, which is something a lot of people ignore. he does abandon his title in some of his endings, but none of them are AM endings. he cares about dimitri, as much as he is loathe to admit it. he's driven by emotions and sentimentality despite his inability to display emotions, hatred for outward sentimentality, and cold exterior, as proved by his three hopes supports with ingrid. and that cold exterior he developed was to cope with what felt to him like the loss of both his father and brother, and later dimitri (who he likely saw as a brother figure then). he says, point blank, that he is far from immune to emotion in his a support with dimitri in three houses. he's stubborn, yes, but not unbearably so, and he's a softy at heart. it's said in his b support with lysithea in three houses that he gave the cake she gave him to a kid, implying he doesn't mind kids as he could have just given the cake to sylvain or ingrid or another one of his friends. he's not a bad guy and doesn't spread rumors, as proved by his supports with annette in three houses. he's highly adaptable and reacts to situations in whatever way will compliment who he's with, as said in his a support with shez. his tactics can be wild but he's still incredibly smart and a vital part of their strategies both on and off the battlefield, as said by ingrid in their three houses c support and dedue in their three hopes support. he's a good friend, as said by ashe in their three hopes support and his actions before his supports in three hopes with sylvain. he's not just an emotionless swordsman who hates his dad.
ingrid isn't just a stickler about rules. she's sentimental and incredibly mature for her age (likely due to being so ostracized from her brothers and having glenn, felix, sylvain, and dimitri as childhood friends), and is willing to go to great lengths for her loved ones, even if it does go to the extreme sometimes. she saw bernadetta hiding in her room regularly and took it upon herself to help, as she had done the same thing after glenn's death. she knows felix well enough to be able to coax him to class in their c support. she was lead to believe something false, but rectifies that in her supports with dedue and realizes the faults in her ways beforehand in three houses and in three hopes gives up on that hate as more information is revealed about the tragedy. she's also very well-read and can separate her fantasies and ideals from her duties, no matter how much it pains her to do so. she's not afraid to ask for help when it comes to less personal matters, but is also fiercely independent and loathes bothering other people with her personal affairs, such as marriage proposals and her turmoil about being a knight vs being count galatea. it's clear that she loves her home, as she knows that she would likely be the best candidate for the role of count, but she doesn't want to give up on her dreams despite that. though she resigns herself to her fate in three hopes, she allows herself to get comfortable enough with byleth in three houses to reach a conclusion that combines her duty and her dream. she admits to sylvain that he's the one who dragged her from her grief after glenns death, and she allows herself to learn the truth eventually. she's far more complex than people give her credit for.
ashe is not your soft boy. i see so much shit about him being just some soft uwu boy when he so absolutely isn’t. he was orphaned, left to raise two younger siblings, and had to turn to thievery all before his tenth birthday and is still regretful for the things he had to do to survive. he is undeniably good. however, that doesn’t mean he’s soft and harmless and has to be protected. he wants to be a knight, even knowing what that entails. he becomes a soldier at 16 years old and has to watch as his classmates puts the man who saved him to the sword. he’s a general in three houses and a knight in three hopes, and he fights in the war in both games. yes, he’s incredibly caring, he can cook, he holds onto his fantasies, his ideals can be a bit naive. but he is not just some little boy you get to fawn over, when he’s been orphaned twice over and lied to about his older brothers death and still continues to smile and still hasn’t given up hope for the future. he is capable of making hard decisions, able to decide things for himself. he was the only one going into the lions who didn’t know someone else, and three months later it’s his father attacking the church, and yet he keeps smiling and keeps going and makes valuable bonds despite that. and, again, he had to do regrettable things as a child. he lived on the streets while raising his siblings. he’s seen it all, and i’m tired of people pretending he hasn’t. he’s also phenomenal at reading people (there’s a lot of evidence but specifically citing his three hopes support with felix). he’s not just your soft boy.
also, mercedes has been through hell!! and people never remember it!!! she had to watch as her mother was used to give count bartels a child with a crest and then was thrown out. she had to leave her brother behind. she said in her a support with byleth that joining the war was the first choice she had ever made of her own free will. after the timeskip, she is twenty-eight. and yes, she's a big sister character, and yes, she is extremely caring for all the other lions, but she's not just that. she's always excited to learn and is incredibly innovative (her supports with ashe, her supports with dedue (hopes and houses), her c support with dimitri, the fact taht she willingly went to the fhirdiad school of sorcery). she's smarter than people give her credit for and has brilliant people skills and does genuinely enjoy taking care of other people (her b support with ferdinand, her supports with jeritza, her supports with felix, her supports with cyril, her supports with hilda). she's very devout to her faith, but she's even more devout to her friends and family. she has never once lived for herself (a trend with the lions, truly) but never begrudges that. she's not a simple baker; she's smart and kind and has a terrifying side of mischief in her. she often teases her friends, including byleth, but is incredibly respectful of everyones boundaries (see: her supports with felix). also, back to the hardships she's been through, her adoptive father literally bought her because of her crest. she and sylvain bond over this and the troubles that their crests have brought them, and she was perfectly happy to let sylvain rant to her about it while also offering her own experiences to show him that he wasn't alone. she's such a caring character and such a good friend, which people often neglect when talking about her, and all of this is reinforced in three hopes. there is so much more about her but i'm cutting it off here because otherwise this is going to be far too long.
annette is not just ditzy and hard-working!! she is a multi-faceted character with so many different aspects about her!! she's carefree and allows herself to actually act her age. she lets herself be silly and carefree and have fun. she's highly artistic (see: her supports with ingrid, felix, claude, and kind of mercedes) and a good friend, and she knows how to go about things when they go south. she's good in an emergency - better than most, in fact - and has the determination to get her and everyone else through. yes, she's a bit of an airhead, but she's incredibly dilligent and hardworking despite that. it's established that she doesn't really know how to take a break (supports with byleth), and that her uncle is really rather strict which leaves her to deal with low self-esteem, which was undoubtedly worsened by the fact that gilbert spends so long ignoring her (directly: supports with dedue. indirectly: her supports with byleth and caspar, how her preferred method after getting a “bad” is to console her). she's also a highly competitive person (see: supports with lysithea, a little bit in her supports with sylvain). she loves helping people (supports with dedue, supports with ashe, supports with ashe in three hopes, solo ending, and endings with byleth, claude, linhardt, non-CF caspar, non-AM felix, dedue, mercedes, hanneman, and gilbert). she's also a powerful mage despite wind magic not necessarily being the strongest. she's afraid of letting people down and disappointing them, which she says straight-up in her supports with hilda. she's highly inquisitive and loves to learn, though tends to be self-conscious when it comes to taking up other peoples time with it (supports with lysithea and hanneman). people need to stop using her just as comedic relief when that's not all there is to her.
there is so much more to dedue than his devotion to dimitri, which people tend to neglect. yes, he's stoic and not necessarily the best conversationalist, but he's a deeply caring person and while he doesn't trust easily, once he trusts you he will be the best friend you will ever have (supports with shez). he loves kids and hates that he scares them (supports with mercedes in three hopes). he cares about his culture, as shown in his supports with mercedes, byleth, ashe, and sylvain in three houses and his general role in three hopes. he cares deeply, enough so that he's willing to distance himself from people because he is of duscur and doesn't want to risk tarnishing their reputation (almost every three houses support, supports with mercedes in three hopes). he doesn't begrudge those that hate the people of duscur, despite the fact that he likely should, and even seems somewhat surprised that him being from duscur isn't why felix hates him and is always surprised when faerghans don't hate him despite it all (supports with sylvain, ashe, and mercedes). he's clearly gentle, shown by the time he spends in the kitchen and greenhouse with materials that you cannot be rough with. he is willing to teach people (his supports with mercedes in three houses, his supports with sylvain in three houses, his supports with flayn, implied in his supports with petra in three hopes, his supports with annette in both three houses and three hopes) but he is also willing to be taught (his supports with mercedes in three hopes, implied in his supports with petra in three hopes, his supports with ashe in three hopes). he's truly such a caring person, which people always look over and neglect due to his stoicism and stern disposition. he is hesitant to talk to people, yes, but for good reason: so many people hate him just because of false information, so obviously he would rather not take the risk of someone attacking him for something he had no control over.
they are so much more than people give them credit for and it breaks my heart to see them simplified so often.

Hi!! Is it ok to ask more questions about your OC amber? Like what kind of food she enjoys at the monastery and what places she's likely to frequent!! Ty for sharing your art and creativity! 🥺🥺🥹🥹
IT IS ALWAYS OKAY TO ASK ABOUT MY OC AMBER!! I don’t get that many questions about her, so when I do it makes me really happy! It blows my mind that others like her so much that they would want to know more. 😊
For food, Amber has a big sweet tooth. Though probably not as much as Lysithea, she loves nothing more than sipping tea and enjoying a baked good. (If you give her cake she will be your best friend!!) Amber herself grew up on a farm, so she ate a lot of staples foods growing up like soups and stews. When she found herself at the monastery, she was delighted to find new dishes to try, attempting any new foods that came her way. So far she’s learned that spicy food isn’t so much her thing, as well as fish, though she will eat anything that is placed in front of her. (If nothing else to be thoughtful and not wasteful of the food itself.) She enjoys mostly vegetables and/ or meat dishes.  Here’s what she likes that’s offered at the dinning hall – sauteed jerky, vegetable stir-fry, Gronder meat skewers, onion Gratin soup, fried crayfish (the only seafood she likes), pheasant roast with berry sauce, sweet bun trio, and peach sorbet.
As for places she likes to frequent to around the monastery, she loves to spend time around the library, stables, greenhouse, and nearby woods. The library and reading remind her of when her parents would read to her before bed. Often reading until she fell asleep. Now as a young adult and with her parents gone, she likes to read when trying to fall asleep. It gives her comfort. Sylvain has seen her on multiple occasions staring out of a window from the library. When asked about it, Amber states that the view from that window in particular looks like the view from her house growing up. Standing here at dusk takes her back to a time before she was all alone. An important detail about Amber is that she works for the monastery to help pay her way through classes. She’ll spend time at the stables caring for the horses and other animals and likes to visit the stables in her spare time as well. Mercedes caught her taking scarps from the dining hall to feed the cats and dogs around the stables. Since then, the two will collect food scraps to give to the animals. The greenhouse is for sure one of her favorites! Growing up on a farm, she spent time tending to crops, but she also helped her mother grow flowers as well! Her real name (Amber isn’t her birth name) is based off a flower given to her by her mother. As such, she loves to help grow the plants in the greenhouse. There’s been a rumor that someone heard her sing to the plants late at night. Ignatz confesses later that it was him, stating that he heard the voice and needed to know who was singing such a beautiful song. And finally, the woods around the monastery. She would live out there if she could (but Seteth wouldn’t allow it) as it’s the closest to feeling like home to her. The big trees, wild animals, babbling brooks, it all gives her comfort and makes her feel at peace. She likes to collect herbs to create salves and game to sell in town. She can be seen reading under a particular tree near the edge of the woods. But she has had to find a new hiding spot as Claude now likes to look for her every time he’s out there. An endless game of hide-and-seek.
Wow! That’s a lot but I couldn’t stop writing. I really enjoy answering questions like this, thanks so much for asking it really means a lot to me. 😊
Here’s a little sketch of Amber as well!

May I request some Sylvain headcanons? How would he react to reader crush who's avoiding him like the plague? Maybe he asked them out to hang out "as friends, nothing serious haha" but he might have kinda forgotten about some other chic he was seeing at the time (oops) and now crush got unintentionally roped up into dumb drama and wants nothing to do with it. Cue the cold shoulder. Maybe this would work best pre-timeskip, Sylv was more of a mess then 😅
{Hello! This is extraordinarily late. I really have no excuse. I hope you like it if you’re still in the fandom!}
Master-list: Here
Is it bold to assume that he expects to be avoided? He is the king of self-sabotage after all. Especially if we are talking pre-timeskip.
He’s a womanizer. He takes pride in it. Anyone who’s his type would be disgusted by the behavior
He talks the talk of wanting to be a forever bachelor, but we all know that’s a sham. He wants stability, he wants loyalty, he wants kindness...basically, if you’re what he wants then he’s going to push you away intentionally to save you from himself
So...yeah. He has no problem with his crush avoiding him. He’s convinced it will pass so long as you’re happy. He’s content being on the side, even though his close friends say otherwise
Aka. Felix picked up on what he was doing and laid down the hard blows. Basically told Sylvain he was a child. Pfft. As if he would be any different
Felix would do worse in his position, but Sylvain holds the thought in to avoid being pummeled
It takes Ingrid’s threats to make him try and attempt being friends again. Something about how he was jeopardizing the ‘team effort’ by letting you ‘sulk’
He felt there was more to it than that, but he didn’t want to press. Not to respect it, but more so because he didn’t want to know the answer
It’s one thing if you were ignoring him from how he acts. That’s fine.
but he--he doesn’t want to hurt your feelings.
He’s not stupid. He’s painfully aware of how you stare during class
how you take a step towards his table at lunch, before shaking your head and choosing somewhere else
how the one time Lorenz went too far, calling him a disappointment to nobles and tossing in a comment about his brother...you became enraged.
So angry he could see veins popping out of your neck
Lorenz earned a bruise the same color as his hair, it was awesome
He only ever saw that level of anger from Felix. Needless to say, surprises were bountiful that day.
He turned a blind eye to it all, until now. After pining for so long and then ignoring him, he was shocked you accepted his invitation to eat lunch
“Heyyy (Y/N)? Want to grab a bite to eat? Been a while since we’ve seen each other and that’s not good for friends, don’t you think?”
Ignoring Ingrid who may have been watching, he did his best to sound natural
He didn’t miss you wince when he leaned on your shoulder, or the way you stepped back at his emphasis on ‘friend’
He also seemingly “forgot” that he was supposed to have lunch with his latest hookup. He definitely wasn’t planning to have them interrupt, cutting your time together short and getting Ingrid off his back. Possibly making you hate him in the process and eliminating any chance he had with you in the future
He was planning it. Just so we’re clear
and boy did Sylvain love to self-sabotage. The hollow feeling in his heart was well deserved, which he confirmed when everything happened according to plan.
You both were eating lunch in the courtyard. Him making small talk, and you uncharacteristically silent. Not too far along comes his latest partner, mad at him for being so forgetful and even cheating on them. He took his opportunity
“Cheating on you with them!? Are you serious!? They’re just a friend, chill out,”
It was done. He committed the ultimate friendzone without fault. The way his partner looked at him in horror was also expected, but their shock wasn’t directed his way.
Why weren’t they looking-?
“Are my feelings a game to you? Do you like making people feel like smeared shit on the bottom of your shoe?”
The way you shook next to him. Your head down and hands crushing the drink in your grasp. He almost expected you to throw it at him, but instead your hands caught water. Droplets fell at a rhythmic pace.
“Did you seriously ask me to lunch when you already had plans? After not talking to me for weeks?! After treating me like I was never your friend?! I know you have a hard time being honest with yourself. I know you don’t like people who’re pushy, so I held back talking first,” they throw their cup onto the floor, standing to glare at him. They purse their lips, trying to barricade their next words yet failing horribly, “but this?! You have me awake for endless nights wondering if I did something wrong and then you use me for petty drama?”
They do the last thing he’d expect, and grab his newest ex by the arm. Before he can process a defense they’re both walking away, with his ‘friend’ furiously wiping at their eyes
“You can’t even give your partner a proper breakup. I knew you were bad, but not that bad,” they halt, turning to look over their shoulder, “I can’t believe I thought you cared about me. I...you know what, you don’t get to hear the rest,”
and you both were gone.
It was the afternoon bell that pulled him from his stupor. He knew that meant class was starting, yet Sylvain didn’t want to go.
Yet he also didn’t want to just sit around. So he forced himself to do what he does best, pretend whatever just happened never occurred
Hours go by, and then some days. He hasn’t heard from his ex once, which was rare since they normally try to reconcile at least once. As for you? It was the same cold shoulder as the past few weeks, except this time was different
You didn’t stare at him during lessons
You didn’t take one step towards his lunch table before turning away
You didn’t defend him when Ingrid gave him a nasty bruise on his cheek, or when Dorothea called him vile
You just...didn’t? He got exactly what he wanted. You did nothing, as if he never existed and your friendship never happened
and yet- he didn’t feel the relief that he expected. He wasn’t happy that you moved on, and every time you laughed his latest meal felt it was about to be re-plated
Your feelings - his crush. They were never the burden he made them appear to be
When he tries to sleep it off, all his brain would conjure is a crushed cup. Trembling fingers digging into tin, their tips changing color from pressure. Droplets of water trickling from thin air and falling on top.
Your feelings were a game to him. One that he lost from the start
He lays in bed, arm over his eyes and lets his tears fall

Would you be interested in writing a fic where Sylvian, due to the fear of dimitri disappearing again begins sending Dimitri gifts of food? And Dimitri is fairly oblivious and just eats whatever’s in front of him?
ajsbjshsnb I remember being mad that they don't have an A support together like saur fucking RUDE. Also, I do love Sylvain in a softer environment and without the misogyny ajnsjbajn. (and crests cause I hate crests and his issues aren't even like just a crest thing lol)
Hope you enjoy this cause had fun with it cause hrghgh soft moments
Warning: This is a fetish story!
“I’m shocked that you’d come and visit me,” Comfortable in the lavish seating that his parlor has to offer, and with no one to intrude on him, Dimitri reclines back into his armchair. He balances his half-drunk cup of tea on the saucer underneath it with one hand, his other arm free to drape over the side of the chair’s armrest. “Especially when there’s already a meeting two days from now. I half expected you to be gallivanting about Fhirdiad about now,”
Sylvain leans to the side of his seat with his elbow perched on the armrest. His chin rests on the palm of his hand as he watches Dimitri. “I can’t believe His Majesty thinks so little of me. I’m a changed man, promise!” Despite the wide smile he shows his eyes are narrowed at Dimitri’s direction. More specifically, at the small paunch that Dimitri sports, a small sliver of pudge taking residence where gaunt abdomen used to be.
“You have changed. But I still remember how much you used to complain about Fhirdiad’s women. Always thinking that-”
“Hush, Your Majesty. What if a fair maiden heard such cruel words coming from Faerghus’ own king? Think of the rumors that’d start,”
Dimitri stands upright in his chair. Slightly leaning forward, his small little amount of flab for a belly seems larger as it presses against his top. “I- forgive me. You’re right,”
Sylvain can’t even hold back his laughter. He leans back into his chair with his eyes squinted as he tries his best to temper his enjoyment. “You still wear your emotions on you sleeve,” Sylvain wipes a few stray tears at the corner of his eyes.
“I am honest. A good quality for a king to have,” Dimitri grumbles to himself. Reclining back into his chair, his cup of tea is replaced by a small dish filled with two orange cream scones.
The sugary sweet comes courtesy from Margrave Gautier, Sylvain taking up the hobby of baking to help with the large amounts of free time that come with relations improving with Sreng through Sylvain’s actions and His Majesty’s insistence with helping him. Though Sylvain's sudden, new hobby comes with the extra intention of being made for His Majesty’s consumption, the Margrave finding it hard to deny the appeal and satisfaction that comes to him whenever Dimitri compliments his growing experience; the sudden way her cheers up or perks up at the thought of someone doing something for him—the notion of anyone wishing to do something for Dimitri regardless of his status still a tall ask for the King no matter how much he denies it—also spurs Sylvain into bettering his confectionary delights. Especially after the fright he had been given all those years ago back when Dimitri had disappeared from Fodlan, disappeared from him, only to reappear as nothing more than a former husk of himself. The memories of such a broken state of his friend still cling to Sylvain’s heart, the jagged fragments stabbing him in fear of such a thing reoccuring with running a kingdom nothing but a thankless, far from easy task. The memories also reignited his curiosity; nothing more than what was expected between a future King and his future Margrave that became friends, Sylvain can only try and hold back and onto the feelings that crave something more. Something more intimate.
The small pile of pudge for a little tummy on Dimitri only drives Sylvain further insane. All the what still feel like new thoughts and ideas mingle together, the overthought hopeful scenarios and fantasies replaying in his mind even more than the ones full of fear back when he had first found Dimitri again. Thoughts of Dimitri perhaps being even a bit softer, of feeding and caressing his arms to properly give him the love and adoration he deserves, to see his face-
“Did you remember about a poor woman you abandoned?” Dimitri stands in front of Sylvain.
Sylvain's thoughts are disrupted by Dimitri, but his thoughts slowly begin to drift back to Dimitri's pudgy tummy as it stands so tantalizingly close to his face. "No. I was just thinking about how much you've enjoyed my baking. Not as much as Ashe or Dedue's but no one can hold a candle to them,"
“I should work it off soon,” Dimitri pouts. He grabs the bit of flab, the small slivers of pudge held between his thumb and fingers. “Regardless,” Dimitri clears his throat. “As I was saying. I have a meeting I must attend,”
“Ugh, you look just better,” Sylvain scoffs, practically tossing himself into the back of his seat. The inquisitive eye that looks at him with inquisitive eyes causes him to think about just what he said. The realization only brings a small smile to his face, the rest of his emotions securely buried underneath with the rest of his screaming and desire to stab something with his lance. “You look healthy. Better than the way you looked like you came crawling out of a hole. But what I think doesn’t matter. Especially when your subjects would be a little upset to see you late,”
Dimitri thinks nothing of Sylvain’s sudden burst words or his flustered nature. The oblivious, unaware King simply goes on his way as his kingdom needs him—Sylvain left with nothing more than a soft smile and goodbye.
Sylvain simply stays in his seat, the encroaching negative thoughts upon seeing His Majesty leave him—almost like those many years ago—are pushed away by his errant thoughts at seeing Dimitri's perky rear and its small extra amount of heft as he walks. He does truly think that Dimitri looks better like how he does.
Sylvain also thinks he’d look better with some extra heft.
____________
Dimitri stares down at himself. His fingers clench the waistband of his pants, slightly widened digits curled around fabric in his frustration to get his clothes on. His clothes fit him poorly; the slightly inelastic fabric hugs his extra curves. The pants come up to his widened waist, the clothing pulled up after several rounds of frustration. His stomach, the distended belly that it now is, slightly pushes past the waistband of his pants. His small, squishy gut covers his button, if his pants were able to be buttoned, the two flaps of fabric unable to go come together from his budding bulge of blubber from his fat pad. Dimitri’s thighs are notably wider as well. His pants are taut from the thicker legs, both his thighs having a slight wobble to them from the adipose that lines his legs. Dimitr’s shirt does much better but the fabric still is taut around his belly. His small gut wobbles as he allows himself to fall back into his sofa, a small tuft of his own hair blown out of his face with a huff proceeding it. His budding breasts feel strained underneath his shirt with his sitting down now. His chest stretched out the width of his top.
“Damnit,” Dimitri mutters underneath his breath, as if anyone could possibly hear him when he’s all alone in his room. He rests a hand on his gut, the palm following the soft curve of his stomach. His other hand is on his thigh, his fingers drumming his flabby leg. His stomach growls despite his budding mild annoyance. So much done already despite the sun still refusing to descende for the night, his rumbling stomach craves something to satisfy itself after all his hard work.
A cherry pie awaits him at his table. The perfectly boxed confection a gift from Sylvain, the signed and sealed note clearly Margrave Gautier’s own, Dimitri had tried to stop himself from indulging in his cravings. But the soft scent of the in season fruit mixed in with the buttery crust tempts Dimitri too much with nothing of importance, or anything else really, scheduled for later.
“One slice before dinner won’t hurt,” Dimitri cuts himself a generously portioned slice. The fruit filling smells even stronger as it slowly begins to spill out from his slice as he takes a forkful of it. A small hum escapes him the instant he takes a bite, the filling far from sweet to help compliment the crust. The second forkful comes faster than the prior one; Dimitri continues to help himself to his dessert faster, as if the treat were to disappear on him.
It doesn’t take long before the slice soon ends up completely devoured. “He’s definitely gotten much better,” Dimitri lets out a content sigh as he rests. His stomach is at peace with the rest of him. But it doesn’t last long, his gut letting out a long, guttural grumble.
Dimitri stares at the rest of the pie, a hefty helping even for multiple people still left. The greedier side of his brain wins after mentally arguing with himself, just one extra slice far from a bad thing. Especially when it comes as a gift from such a close friend.
One extra slice quickly devolves into an entire pie eaten in one singular sitting, dinner foregone in favor of tending to his bloated stomach that is a mess of noises. Though Dimitri can’t find any sort of reason to complain about himself after such a delicious treat, the stomach ache well worth it.
__________
Faerghus' winter as chilling as ever, the country's king takes residence inside the comfort of his warm, well insulated room.
Along with his favorite Margrave of course.
"Here, try these ones next," Sylvain brings a small tray with simple, homemade chocolate chip cookies over. Sylvain rests a hand against Dimitri's gut.
His Majesty is now heavyset. No longer able to claim being simply pudgy or even fat, the royal is now obese with his weight finally cresting just above 400 pounds the last time he weighed himself a couple days ago.
Dimitri pays little attention to the hand that uses his own sizable gut as a resting spot. Nor does he pay attention to the way said hand lightly rubs the ball of fat as he grazes away at all the treats offered to him. "Thank you," Is all he plainly says, a few cookies smattering the sides of his plump lips and dusting his cherubic face.
Dimitri seated, he fills out both his clothes and his chair, both of them showing off his extra weight from so many snacks and desserts given to him by Sylvain. Dimitri's gut is the largest aspect of him at his size. The large blubbery pile of lard sits comfortably on his lap. His shirt is thankfully new. The larger piece of fabric manages to cover up his girth but doesn’t hide his enormity, all of Dimitri's girth and extra weight on display now regardless of how loose of clothing he wears. Dimitri’s chest that rivals many of the women’s breasts that Sylvain would hit on stretch out his shirt. The outline of his two meaty man boobs are visible, the soft, sagging arch of them showing along with the bit of flab that lurches forward as he sits. The outline of his enlarged nipples are also visible, the faint circular spot always a point of interest for Sylvain’s vision and a fantasy for his hands.
Dimitri takes little time to finish the dozen cookies offered to him, the two blueberry scones from earlier nothing more than an appetizer. His weight still rests heavily on his mind despite the way he continues to gorge himself. “I think it’s time I work off all this weight,” Dimitri confides in his trustworthy friend. He pokes at his gut, his large sausage for an index finger sinking into his gut. “As my friend, I’m sure even you would agree that I’m rather fat,”
All Sylvain hears is his saliva running down his throat as he swallows. Trying his best to put on his largest smile, even he finds it hard to with Dimitri right next to him. Especially with how large his thighs are, both Dimitri’s thighs squished against the sides of his chair even while splaying them out to the side in some semblance of an attempt for space. And how comfortable they look to be used as his seat, Dimitri’s soft gut the only obstacle in the way but even that is more a treat than anything to deal with. His wide thighs are around the width of Sylvain’s own trim, muscular waist now. And their immensity is shown off by the way they press against his pants, the two jutting cylinders for legs cramped. And while Dimitri’s ass hasn’t received the same amount of plush padding as the rest of him, the two flabby cheeks that make up his ass still have heft to them as they fill out his pants well.
“See, even you are afraid to tell me the truth,” Dimitri sighs. He glumly looks at his sorry, fat state.
Broken out of his short little daydream, Sylvain scoffs upon hearing Dimitri’s self harsh words. “Oh please. You look damn perfect like this,” His fingernails dig into his hands. His teeth nearly cut into his tongue as he shuts his mouth.
“What? Surely you’re joking. I-”
“I mean it,” Sylvain spits out. Looking down at Dimitri, he can’t help but smile upon seeing him. Fears wash away, the muddled feelings dripping off of him. “Listen to me. Yeah, we’re friends. We’ve been friends for far too long and I, well I kind of want more than just that,”
“And all of this then?” Dimitri gestures to his gut. As confused as ever, he doesn’t even realize the effect he has on Sylvain as he lifts up his large gut, needing both hands to do so at this point.
“That was sort of an accident… But I do think you look better with all your extra heft. More of you to love,” Sylvain reaches for Dimitri’s stomach and rubs the stuffed gut.
“Sylvain, this doesn’t happen by accident. Is that why you took up baking, just to-just so you could fatten me?”
The bundle of nerves bubble in Sylvain’s throat, all of it threatening to spill out as he laughs. “Gods, no!” He takes deep breaths, slowly calming himself despite having to admit himself. “I just. Well you disappeared from everyone. I know things were awful and everything was shit but I thought you were dead. I felt like I failed you. And then you suddenly show up and sure everything is better but I still think that you'll just leave again. There! Are you happy now?” Sylvain turns to face Dimitri, his face red.
“Yes,” Dimitri’s own face mirrors Sylvain’s, the deep scarlet hue on his portly, cherubic cheeks as well. He stands up and hugs Sylvain. His body practically envelops him, Dimitri’s large, flabby arms squishing Sylvain as he holds him tightly. His gut presses into Sylvain; the expanse of flab is more than twice his width as Sylvain sinks into it.
“I didn’t start baking for you, y’know,” Sylvain grumbles. His arms are securely wrapped around Dimitri's own. “It was just nice to actually create something for once. And then I thought you needed some appreciation. Plus you always complimented me even when what I baked came out terrible. And then you got pudgy and my feelings for you got stronger,” Sylvain looks to the side. His blush burns even stronger, the furnace on his face able to melt the snow outside.
“So one thing led to another,” Dimitri finishes.
“Yeah. An accident,”
Dimitri laughs. Still holding onto Sylvain, his gut wobbles pressing and pushing against him. “A good accident then. I admit, I’ve felt strongly about you as well Sylvain. I must also admit that I enjoy seeing my boyfriend so flustered,”
The words come out like nothing for Dimitri, as if doing something as easy and natural like Sylvain’s own womanizing ways.
“Then how come I never got a dagger?” Sylvain throws out with his own laughter. He breaks free from Dimitri’s weakened grip, the much fatter man staring at him with a mixture of anger and embarrassment. “Oh I’m kidding. Besides, if you really want to try and lose some weight, then I’ll help you. We’ll spar,”
“You make fun of me and yet you propose sparring as our first activity,” Dimitri chides him but still follows along.
“Hey, this’ll be interesting. Winner gets to make the loser do something. Granted, we’ve both already gotten eyefuls of eachother but those are way back when. My memory might need some refreshing,” Sylvain already turns back on his lecherous charm. He grabs Dimitri’s ass. His hand firmly holds it as the two walk.
“Fine then. And who knows, perhaps I’ll work up an appetite after this. I’m sure you’ll be willing to help me, won't you?” Dimitri smiles softly. Dimitri begins to lead the way, ready to show off and beat Sylvain all for a favor. Sylvain is the exact same, the two idiots glad to work off their newfound frustration in a more close range, intimate session.
The first of many.

Another reason why the whole "forced marriages" concept (that Rhea haters ate up like pie) is bullshit.
Speaking for Faerghus, since this seems to be an issue players point the finger at Faerghus for, it's just... not true? This NPC does understand there are political implications to his marriage, but he wasn't forced into it and neither was his wife. They married for love.
The only known case of an arranged marriage prospect within Faerghus' known cast is Ingrid, and that's something Ingrid has taken on for herself as well. She knows her lands struggle with crops and that her people go hungry. She's choosing to deal with a non-romantic marriage for her people.
But what about Glenn, you ask? There are two aspects to that:
The marriage was arranged when Ingrid was born, but it's worth noting the marriage was arranged between Gunnar and a childhood friend's son. She wasn't just being married off to just anyone. It was both a childhood friend (who Gunnar clearly had deep trust in)'s son, but also a family member of the royal family's right hand family. But what about the Houses paralogue, you ask? Gunnar wasn't aware of the man's crimes, but as soon as he found out he rejected the proposal. Gunnar cares about his daughter's happiness and wellbeing. The only reason they're searching for a marriage candidate is because Galatea lands desperately need the financial support.
Ingrid is the only case we know of where she's being "married off" (her endings rebuke this entirely anyway because she does end up marrying for love if paired with someone). Nobody else in Faerghus had a marriage forced or politically forced on them (and frankly I still fail to understand how the Church is supposedly at fault for concept of this being the case period anyway). Dimitri, the literal prince and at the time of birth immediate heir to the throne, was never forced to marry. Felix has never been pushed to marry. Sylvain has never been pushed to marry (despite how important it is that they continue that bloodline). Annette, a female, has never been pushed to marry.
In other words, the major political players have never put their kids into arranged marriage with a single exception of necessity for one family (Galatea), and in Rodrigue's case with Glenn, it was done with a childhood friend's lands' welfare in mind. Gunnar could have married Ingrid to anyone at any point, but the most important aspect of it is that when it was arranged without her say so (i.e. at her birth), it was done with the son of a man who Gunnar trusted implicitly.
After Glenn died, Ingrid was plenty old enough to have a say so in who she might be married to. Presumably the issue wasn't pushed on her for a while after Glenn died for emotional reasons, but once they tried again, Ingrid had a say in things. Her father sent her letters specifically for her input. No, she doesn't want to marry for political reasons, but she understands how much her lands need it. Still though, her father won't force her to marry some scumbag. If she tells him she won't marry someone, he accepts that.
In other words, the only argument that can be used for "forced marriages" falls flat on its face. It's not a regular practice in Faerghus. None of the heirs to specific territories are being married against their will. The only instance we know about isn't so extreme that Gunnar is just going for it and picking the best dowry without considering his daughter's happiness and health.
The one time it was decided before she was old enough to give her input, Gunnar didn't need to "consider" marriage prospects and be unsure who to pick, because it was planned between two old friends who trusted each other and presumably felt that their child would be safe with the other family in question.
My biggest problem with people saying this claim is supported is that for the most part, people just take Claude's words in GW at pure face value and assume it's absolute, definite truth when he gives nor has any evidence to back it up (mainly because he blames it on the Church, which still doesn't make sense because such things are out the Church's jurisdiction. No amount of "seeing what the world is like without Rhea" is going to change Faerghus' politics, so even if his claims were true, Claude would have to go talk to every single individual territory within Faerghus to realize the truth if he's that dead set on his view of this, as each territory does its own thing politically).
He brings it up like it's a fact in Faerghus, which as I've said before, he has literally no knowledge whatsoever about Faerghus, and it shows. He doesn't even know extremely basic things, such as the previous king literally dying in the middle of making friends with a foreign land. He knows that Lambert died in Duscur during the Tragedy, and that's... basically the extent of his knowledge and understanding about it. For some reason though in Hopes, he thinks he understands Faerghus as well as he understands Almyra.
It's also annoying because in Fodlan games, a character can just say something - literally anything at all - and it's eaten up immediately and taken at pure face value with no thoughts actually put into questioning its validity. And before anyone says "but Dimitri didn't argue this in Zaharas!" yeah, I'm aware, and I feel that was a huge reason why that chapter, trying to be the "we fight as allies this once" chapter, was a total flop, aside from other things (particularly in the SB/GW department with Dimitri and magically wanting to "talk things over" with someone who had just murdered one of his dearest friends mere hours ago tops in SB, or in GW where politics would demand more from him).
The games have a problem with trying to introduce false concepts through characters who don't know better (i.e. introducing incorrect perspectives that we're meant to understand are just perspectives and not the truth nor fact) but then not refuting those claims, despite the game itself as the story progresses outright denying those things, whether outright or passively (in the latter's case, again, other important political figures having no talks of marriage on the table at all).
In the screenshots, the NPC is aware that politics have to get involved with his marriage, but he wasn't forced to marry and neither was she. Not only does he mention it, but he wants people to know they married for love. He's basically saying he doesn't want people to misinterpret their reasons for marriage (wanting land, wealth, etc).
In Ingrid's case, it was started with that goal in mind, but it started out in safe hands. After that she always had a say in who she might marry, and ultimately didn't marry for political reasons. The one person who was possibly going to marry for political reasons in Faerghus and not out of love ends up not even doing that.
Honestly, in Claude's case, I feel like he was just written with no purpose in mind except to rock the boat unnecessarily, because everything he claims in regard to Faerghus is purely speculation on his part. He knows absolutely nothing about Faerghus (in both games, but his ignorance in Houses isn't malicious, whereas you could argue in Hopes he's attempting to overthrow what he believes are their systems when even if they were, it would still be none of his business) but talks like he's lived there or spoken to its people who make the decisions he claims are happening.
Also, the concept of Dimitri being forced to do this that and the other thing are just... not true? Dimitri is happy to be able to help others and make reforms for his lands. He likes that he's able to have the power to make good change and help people. He knows that you need a certain degree of power to be able to push things in a better direction and to have a voice. By having the most important voice, he can make other voices known that otherwise would not be. When people have no choice but to listen to the king, he can demand that other voices are heard.
Even in his A support with Shez, he believes his happiest moment will be when he dies after dedicating his life to "a peaceful kingdom full of joyous citizens". I get the whole "but he isn't living for himself!" side of things, but this part of this post is specifically about how Dimitri is supposedly "forced" into doing things because he's king; but plain and simple, he wants to be king because by having the highest power in his land, he can make positive change happen
"This bad thing is happening in the Kingdom!" Well now he can change that. He wants to change things in his land for the better, and he understands that his position is a necessity for that. That's why he's so upset when he's "rendered powerless by age" in Houses, i.e. can't ascend the throne yet. He wanted to make change and couldn't. He wanted to do right for the Kingdom, but he couldn't yet.
Basically what I'm saying is that people keep using Claude's Hopes rhetoric as "fact", but literally none of it is. It's all based on the most severe amount of ignorance in both games and him for some reason believing that he knows jack shit about Faerghus. That includes the marriage "issue", which while I'd say it may exist in Adrestia (ex. Bernadetta being planned to marry Ferdinand), does not exist in Faerghus as any sort of "issue".
I don't recall if it's really even present in Leicester? So either... Claude just pulled that argument out of his absolute ass, or he's seeing an issue in Leicester and for some reason assuming his country's politics are every country's politics, which is, again, total ignorance (and he makes no effort to ever found out if any of that is true).

What do the Blue Lions do if they receive an anonymous love letter from you?
Note: Reader is Gender-Neutral
Dimitri Well, whoever wrote this letter certainly had a way with words! He cannot help but admire your eloquence while wondering what he could have possibly done to receive such praise. Had he missed a special occasion? Or did someone send him this nice letter for the sake of niceness? Baffling to be sure, which is why he starts asking around in search of the original sender.
His more astute classmates are quick to point out that it is not just an ordinary greeting card, but in fact - a love letter. The moment he realizes, his face goes red.
Oh. Well now he absolutely has to know who you are, if only to convince you that he is in no way worthy of such admiration. Surely there is someone more deserving of your affection, that such words should not be wasted on him. ...Or so he tries to convince himself as he re-reads the letter every quiet moment he has alone.
Dedue There must be some kind of mistake, he thinks to himself as he quietly folds up the letter. Or a joke. Who in their right mind at Garreg Mach would hold such admiration for him, let alone emotion? He elicits no reaction and tells no one, not even Dimitri. Life seemingly goes on as normal.
What no one knows is that on some days of the week, he sits down at his desk with a quill and parchment, mulling over how to reply and struggling to choose the right words.
Eventually he gives up, deciding that silence is preferable to a clumsy response. Instead, he visits the greenhouse to select some freshly bloomed potted flowers. He arranges your letter amongst the blossoms and together they decorate his window sill where the sun lands gently every morning.
Sylvain By the time he is finished reading it, there is a big goofy grin on his face. He is no stranger to receiving such letters, having written a few of his own. In fact, he keeps a small stack of them in his room. The noteworthy ones, at least. Eventually, such letters all end up in the fireplace in a matter of days.
Yours though? It just makes him really happy for some reason. There's no way he'll let it get lost in the paperwork or toss it in the hearth. Instead, he keeps it on his person like a lucky charm.
In fact, he really wants to show it off and brag about it to everyone until they get absolutely sick of him. They do, but this is the first time he has ever truly not cared about how other people think about him (...well, maybe except for you, O mysterious admirer) and it is the best feeling ever.
Felix At first he scoffs and crumples it up after reading, tossing it into the paper bin by his desk. What a ridiculous letter, and a waste of time. So, why couldn't he get it out of his head?
Against his better judgment, he digs through his own trash to rescue it, even taking the time to smooth it out and clean it up a little. Someone clearly put far too much work into writing this silly note for it to be tossed aside.
He considers interrogating his classmates to find out who sent it, and if it was some sort of prank. But he also knows that certain friends would never let him hear the end of it if they found out. So he keeps it to himself and doesn't tell a soul. If you were brave enough to write him something so frivolous, then he hopes believes that you'll probably approach him in person on your own accord one day.
Ashe He leaps to the conclusion that the letter is meant for someone else, delivered to him by mistake. Naturally, when he goes looking for the intended recipient, people are quick to point out that his name is in fact written on the letter. That can't be right, he thinks as he rereads the heart-pounding letter for the hundredth time. And yet there it was, plain as day.
Thanks to his inquiries, word gets around campus such that people are congratulating him for having a secret admirer. The sudden attention leaves him incredibly flustered, but not terribly embarrassed. Maybe in a handful of days, he thinks with a red-faced grin, he'll write a response of his own. The only problem is whether he could write half as eloquently as you did, and how to figure out who you really are.
Mercedes She has received letters of gratitude for her service at the church before, but this is quite different. Your flowery words have captivated her, and with each re-read, she notices all the small details you included in the letter. Your elegant handwriting, the various anecdotes of all her deeds and merits, the pressed flowers, and even the faint perfume of lavender - her favorite.
It leaves her quite giggly and rosy-cheeked for the rest of the day, to the point where she has trouble concentrating in class. Even as her peers call her name and try to get her attention, she simply stares off into space with a giddy sigh and a dreamy smile. Her classmates are quick to suspect that she is lovestruck, and they might not be far from the truth.
Annette How curious, she thinks to herself cheekily as she opens the note. Could it be a love letter? Haha, no way. Unless...?
To her surprise, it is - in fact - a love letter. The moment it hits her, she panics. Freaks out, even. Burning red from cheek-to-cheek, her first impulse is to squeal out loud. Naturally, her outburst sends passers-by running over to investigate, and the cat is out of the bag before she can keep it a secret.
For the rest of the week, she is even clumsier than usual, causing a surfeit of accidents in both the kitchen and in magic class. By the end of each day, she is flustered and mortified. If only she could find out who you are, just to give you a piece of her mind for getting her riled up like this! But if she did end up meeting you face-to-face, she'd probably blush even harder then.
Ingrid She sighs, and tears it up. Except she doesn't, and the letter remains whole in her hands as she reads it again. Maybe a few more times for good measure. By the time she comes to her senses, it is too late. She has memorized your words from start to finish and still can't bring herself to get rid of the letter.
But what is the point in keeping it? She wonders. Between her dreams of knighthood and her father's designs at arranging a suitable marriage for her, there is no room in her life for a secret admirer.
And yet, whenever she feels down, your letter is a source of solace - even hope. She feels a little guilty that she would tear up her own father's letters yet keep yours. But reading your letter is like listening to a dear friend who knows the real her, even if she has no idea who you are.

Good Lord. Okay. Listen. We all agree that pre-timeskip Houses Dedue is not doing so great in the mental health department. We all agree on that. My guy needs therapy about his survivor's guilt and his PTSD and we're all agreed his self deprecation is Intense but like.
Listen. You can't…address that without also acknowledging he's like that because people have been Fucking Racist To Him Constantly for the Last Four Years of his Goddamn Life. And not like, just ‘microaggressions at the workplace’ racist, though also that too. Like, ‘somebody might fucking murder him’ kind of racist. He's not just insecure or whatever. This man is trying not to get hate-crimed.
It's rational, actually, for Dedue to assume that Any Given Faerghan is gonna be racist to him, because before going to Garreg Mach every given Faerghan except Dimitri HAS BEEN super mega turbo racist to him everywhere he goddamn goes. There's no reason for him to believe his classmates are gonna be different. Like, he doesn't know Mercedes is from the Empire! He has no reason to believe Chivalrous Knight Fanboy Ashe doesn't hate Duscur and everyone from there for regicide. Annette is the only one with a pass and only because Dedue respected Gustave until he went out for cigarettes and never came back, abandoning not only Dimitri but also Dedue in the process. The safest thing is to assume people are gonna come at him hot and preemptively deescalate the situation.
Like, he suffers from the “you can get C and B supports after the time skip” weirdness for sure, but even in his C supports, even if you get them before the skip, he is fully willing to tell Felix where to stick his fucking grapes, and he's willing to tell Ingrid she can be as big of a bitch about it as she wants but he's still going to do his job on the battlefield even if that means keeping her alive. He's consistently assertive of his boundaries with Dimitri in all their supports, including when Dimitri wishes that he did not have a particular boundary (using Dimitri's name and calling each other friends, things it's actually physically not safe for pre timeskip Dedue to do).
Because he is confident Dimitri isn't gonna fucking lose his mind at Dedue about it. He's also confident Felix, Ingrid, and Sylvain won't do a hate crime at him if he's acting in capacity of Dimitri's Vassal because of their fundamental loyalty to Dimitri, so he can safely tell them to shove it also. He tells Gustave he's a disappointment to Gustave’s face in their support!! Dedue isn't just a shrinking violet or whatever, he's just judicious about what shit he's gonna start, and how likely it is that talking shit is gonna get him hit.
(Also, yes he's a quiet guy... But also he's interacting with all these people in his second language, which he has no formal training in and which he learned from Dimitri. He really has to think about what he's going to say before he says anything because there is very little margin for error for him to misspeak without consequences and he knows it.)
Honestly unpopular opinion because like while I'm under no illusions that they did clearly fake out killing him for reasons other than his personal growth, I actually think it was in Dedue's personal best interest that he spent the timeskip in Duscur. This man hates Faerghus, he says that to Dimitri in their supports, but he's been stuck with them and having to just put up with it because he had nowhere else to go (even aside from the fact that Dimitri is literally the only living person in the world who loves him and he's terrified of losing that).
He's very clearly much more self-actualized when he returns, and in a much more relaxed and self-assured emotional place after the timeskip. Probably because he wasn't the one and only Highly Visible Do A Racism Here target and instead was with his own community, where he could actually unpack all that shit safely. Dedue needed that time outside the Racist Aggression Bubble of Faerghus to deal with his survivor's guilt properly.
You really can't address Dedue's self-image issues without also digging into the way dealing with constant racism reinforces those issues. You super cannot. Race and racism and how he deals with it is critical to the character. Is it always handled gracefully by the narrative?? No, absolutely it's not, but it is in fact in the narrative and you HAVE to engage with it if you're going to engage with Why Dedue is Like That.

So apparently there is @fe-oc-week going rn and I almost missed it! So I am going to clump as many of the prompts as I can.
Day 1: Introductions
Her name is Elena von Riegan! The illegitimate daughter of Godfrey von Riegan and his mistress Setsuna. She was born in the year of 1153. When she was about six years old, her and her mother left the Leicester Alliance to get to another country, but they end up in Fraldarius territory where they stayed. When the plague hit, it took her mother, leaving her by herself with no family left to speak of. She is a dark flier and her pegasus was a gift from Lambert and was once his first wife's pegasus.
Elena is very energetic, cunning, and stubborn. She loves her pegasus, dancing, singing, purple butterflies, rose acacia flowers. spicy food. Here interests includes learning new tactics, exploring, new training styles, and scheming. She does not like her father, disorganization, heat, and swimming. Elena is one year younger than Glenn and she is 9 years older than Felix.
Day 2: Relationships
She was part of the next generation of Faerghun four which includes Glenn Govan Fraldarius, Colby Frey Galatea, and Miklan Anschutz Gautier.
Glenn: Her childhood friend who she bonded with instantly. Over the course of their lives, they became best friends and did everything with. Eventually the two did fall in love with each other, but never acted on it because of Glenn's betrothal to Ingrid. She is the one that Glenn trusts the most.
Colby: They are very close and are childhood friends. They are pure chaos with each other and have zero braincells when they are around each other. They do care about each other deeply and Colby trust her to the point that he told her that she is a trans woman and wants to go by Astrid instead of Colby.
Miklan: The two used to be so close, like brother and sister, and did everything together. They both trained in axes and war tactics under Matthias and magic under Miklan's mother, Raven. They always competed with each other to see who was best. Elena always won. But with the birth of Sylvain, that's when their relationship broke. They constantly fought and she did everything she could to protect Sylvain from Miklan's terrible behavior. With the way Miklan treated his younger brother, she lost all feelings towards him and felt relief when he left/died.
Holst: They are friendly with each other and get along very well. They usually train with each other or have a little tea party to catch up on life since they don't see each other all that often. Sometimes they are at odds with each other, but usually they come to an agreement.
Balthus: As much as Elena likes Balthus, she gets very frustrated with Balthus. Most of her frustrations come from cleaning up his mess with Holst. She constantly questions their friendship and wonders how is still alive most of the time.
Claude: Elena cares for Claude so very much. Whenever they are around each other, they get into so much trouble and have so much fun. They pull multiple pranks on people, especially on the Gloucester family. They constantly give Judith and Nader heart-attacks. Elena also is very motherly towards Claude.
Godfrey: Elena despises her father and can't stand him. She went no contact with him after her and her mother left Riegan Territory. From what she remembers of him, she didn't feel like he cared for her or her mother. She also felt like she was like she was never meant to exist and that she was a plight on the Riegan name. So she never cared to keep in contact with her father when she got older.
Amelia: Elena always felt loved from Duchess Fraldarius, as she was the daughter Amelia never got. The two of them are very close, and they treat each other with a lot of respect.
Rodrigue: Rodrigue is like a father to Elena. He treats her with such kindness, softness, and gentleness. If she had any opinion on how a father should be, it would be Rodrigue. He trusts her with a lot of information and has her as his advisory, not only for him, but for his wife and his son Glenn.
Lambert and Aisla: Elena is like a daughter that they never had. They are like a third family to her. They care for each other deeply and trust her with so much.
Dimitri: Elena is like an older sister Dimitri and one of his closest friends. She would do anything to protect him, even at the cost of her life and in turn he would do the same. She believes in him and the future he wants to create. She is also very motherly towards him.
Ingrid: Elena and Ingrid don't get along with each other at all. She wanted to befriend her and be nice to her for Glenn's sake and because she would become Ingrid's advisor in the event she becomes the next Duchess Fraldarius. But that always failed with Ingrid's jealousy and hatred towards her. Elena does everything possible to avoid Ingrid.
Day 3: Backstory
Elena was born the only, and illegitimate, daughter of Godfrey von Riegan and his mistress Setsuna. She is also the niece of Tiana von Riegan and cousin to Claude von Riegan.
Setsuna's and Godfrey's relationship was kept in secret, and when Elena was born, her existence was also kept as a secret. Shortly after Godfrey's relationship and daughter found out, Setsuna feared the worst for her and her child, she took Elena and left the Alliance Territory. Setsuna fled towards Duscur in hopes of saving Elena from her family and all the backlash.
On their way to Duscur, they ended up in Fraldarius, only hoping to stay the night. While they were there, Elena befriended Glenn instantly. After that, they stayed there. Setsuna became an advisor to Duchess Fraldarius, Amelia and Elena enjoyed her childhood in Fraldarius.
Because of her mother constantly traveling, Elena was able to befriend Colby/Astrid Frey Galatea and Miklan Anschutz Gautier. She was able to train in axe and tactics under Matthias and reason magic under his wife, Raven. She would also travel with Amelia and Glenn to the Alliance Territory, where Elena was able meet Balthus and Holst.
With her friendship with Glenn and the Fraldarius family, she grew close to the Blaiddyd family. She learned how to hunt, ride a pegasus, and light magic because of the Queen Consort, Seraphina. Once Seraphina passed away, Lambert gifted Elena with his wife's pegasus because he knew no one would be able to ride her and Elena would be able to take care of her.
Growing up with Glenn, she fell in love with him. He was always so kind, so gentle with her, and he gave her all of his trust. They always confided in each other. As they grew, it always pained her that he would end up with Ingrid to the point where she debated leaving the Fraldarius family. She stayed anyways with the family, coming to the conclusion that she was content being with Glenn even if he was going to marry Ingrid.
Much to her delight, Glenn decided that after his travels to Duscur, he would end his betrothal to Ingrid and truly start his relationship with Elena.
Day 4: Tragedy
Elena was cleaning some rooms in Castle Fraldarius for when Lambert, Matthias, and a few other visitors came for some business. While she did that, she found a notebook that belonged to Lambert's first wife. While she read through it, she thought it would be best if he saw it because it had some incriminating info about Rufus and what his plans were for the throne. When she went up to Fhridiad to discuss negotiations with Duscur, she forgot the notebook and Lambert, Glenn, and the small army to wait a couple days. If she wasn't back from Fraldarius with the notebook, to go ahead and leave without her.
When she was on her way back to Fhridiad, she was ambushed by the TWISTED. She fought off as many as she could, but she wasn't able to survive the attack. She ultimately died along with her pegasus. In her last moments, she wished Glenn all the happiness in the world and hopefully he loves someone as much as he loved her. Her body was taken back to Fraldarius Castle where she had a proper funeral. Her pegasus was taken back to Fhridiad to have a proper send off of her own.
Day 5: Joy
In another world, she gets to Fhridiad in time and saves her life and the life of many, including Glenn's and Lambert's. Because of this, Glenn was able to call of his betrothal to Ingrid and they began to date, eventually getting married. They ended up having two children, Akari and Hotaru. They had Akari when Felix went to the academy, right around the time he receives the Aegis shield. Then they had Hotaru during the five year war.
Day 7: Endings
She will only have one canon ending and that will be with Glenn.
"After the war had ended, Elena went back to House Fraldarius with her beloved husband. Both Glenn and Elena rebuilt and restored Fraldarius Territory to its former glory, even making it better than the previous Duke and Duchess. It was often said that the Duke and Duchess spent much time in the kitchen with their children, filling the castle with laughter and celebrations. The recipes that they had, were passed down from generation to generation and became pillars of what food that started a culinary revolution, setting a new trend in the culinary world."

The difference between Felix's AM and non-AM endings really drives home the fact that Felix isn't meant to be the "lone wolf swordsman" archetype typical in FE. When he leans into the archetype after being recruited from the Blue Lions his endings are very lonely and miserable or at best kinda bittersweet. But on AM he's happy and satisfied and grows. Coupled with the fact that the Fraldarius Hero Relix is a shield instead of a weapon, it really drives home that Felix is meant to be a defender.
Felix is very interesting when discussing how he relates to past FE archetypes.
I think, outside of AM, what you actually get is a "lone-swordsman" origin story. And inside it, he subverts the trope.
In White Clouds, Felix is, like most people that age, still figuring things out (with a hefty dose of trauma and poor emotional intelligence piled on top). At this point, he's someone who honestly enjoys time by himself and fighting and is a bit tsundere. He's still fighting and training to protect his friends and regardless of the route worries incessantly about Dimitri.
Then the time skip happens. In SS/VW/CF Felix develops into the lone-swordsman. He's now just about fighting, not protecting, because there's no one left to protect after Dimitri's dead (and likely Rodrigue). Sylvain and Ingrid can't really factor into his growth outside of AM because the game has no idea if you recruited them or not or if you're a bad player and they died or not. Felix isn't good with complex emotions, so he deals with Dimitri's death poorly and becomes a sad, bloodthirsty swordsman, doubling down on the only thing he knows he's good at - fighting. Because how can he claim he's protecting his friends anymore? They all could be dead. Hell, if it's CF, he could've killed every one of them himself - really forcing him to double down on a new belief, but with nothing left to believe in but his ability with a weapon.
Most lone swordsmen in FE are actually pretty angsty. A rare one, like Navarre, seem well adjusted. But Navarre wasn't really alone. He's part of a mercenary group - he's just likes his alone time. The truly alone ones like Rutger or Karel are miserable or kinda evil, respectively. That's why I think CF/SS/VW Felix is showing how someone becomes Rutger or Karel. In AM, he doesn't, though. He's given the chance to grow into someone healthier.
In AM, obviously, Dimitri's death never happens. Felix is noticeably more mature in the time skip compared to WC and CF/SS/VW. He's no longer just concerned with his sword, but shows outward concern for others - namely the people of his territory. He also speaks out against Dimitri's behavior, but is mature enough to make amends once Dimitri's honestly trying to do better. His ending cards show him having something to live for outside of a sword, and that's because in AM, he found something worth protecting, whereas outside of it, he lost what he wanted to protect - Dimitri (since Ingrid and Sylvain cannot possible get factored in due to the confines of the game).
So, yeah, Felix is very interesting to me in how he's both a carbon copy of a classic Fire Emblem trope, but also subverts it and ends up growing in a way you didn't expect. It's also why I love him so much. He gets different development depending on the route, something I wish happened with all the characters.
