#bts contract renewals

Note
this news is about them signing their group contracts not their solos contracts that's a whole different thing will likely come out later by next year when jhope and jin exit the military.
***
See what I mean about akgae assertions made entirely to soothe their anxieties whether or not it's based in fact?
Anon, the fact is you have no idea how their contracts are structured. You don't know if each member's contract includes clauses for both group and solo projects and management. You don't know if the contracts are structured collectively or not. You don't even know if another set of contract signings related only to solo careers will be announced when Jin and Hobi are discharged. In fact the only reference to 2Seok in the main press release, is in the signing of the same contract renewals that were announced today, those two singled out only because they cannot physically sign the document until they're out of the military.
And this is aside the fact that BigHit has a fiduciary responsibility to not misrepresent anything about the nature of these contract renewals to their investors. Meaning if they were aware the members are signing solo contracts with other companies, undercutting the exclusivity HYBE enjoys managing the artists that account for 60% of their topline, they could get sued to hell and back by their investors for it.
So, in response to news that the members have agreed to renew with Bighit, you're already filling in the blanks to create a scenario in which the member you want to leave and sign with another company can still do so. I mean, it's possible theoretically speaking, but the point is neither you nor me has any basis or evidence to support that assertion. The member you bias choosing to remain with BigHit to manage his solo career, is an anxiety you have, that you've now created a scenario to soothe yourself.
My little unsolicited advice: It's been a hellish six months. I get it. Many things happened and are still unexplained and people just want the absolute best for the members they love. But these guys are not rookies. The industry is ruthless and corporations have their agendas, but if their company was out to sabotage them, BTS as a group would've been dead in the water long before you ever heard about them (just look at the trainwreck k-pop has been in all year). The members are the only people who know what they want, they have significantly more information about the state of their careers than anybody telling you anything on Tumblr.com. Take a page from our resident muggle Jimin and step away from the internet for a bit.
Stream his music, buy his album for your niece or dad, introduce your friends to those Ethereal Beauty Jimin videos on Youtube.

I know I said PJMs can be a bit sensitive but damn. How can u not think foul play when u look at all these?
Tumblr media
First with him getting kicked out like 30 times when they were trainees, which btw they talk and joke about it but no one ever explains why Jimin wasn't given singing lessons like Taekook.
Now I'm thinking about this thing I noticed. I'm watching this live, yeah?
Tumblr media
And at some point members can ask for a song to be played or stopped. One time Jimin kept repeating for staff to play the song and they wouldn't do it. JK notices and tells them (once) to play the song and it gets played 👀 immediately. So they couldn't hear Jimin but they could hear JK? 🤔 This made me start to pay attention when watching and rewatching RUN episodes. Idk if u guys have ever paid attention but Jimin gets ignored... often. Sometimes when he raises his hand or shouts his name just like the others he gets ignored or they say another member did it first but it clearly wasn't the case. I have always wondered why that was.
We tagged YT and Spotify and BB and trended corrupt hashtags. Yet nothing changed, nothing was done. All these wrong things combined it does make u wonder if it wasn't the company all along, doesn't it??? Idk what to think guys. I'm fucking...

What are your thoughts on BTS's future and TK's future with BTS? I have a gut feeling BTS aren't going to reconvene in 2025. Especially with Bang's uncertainty shown in the press conference.
Maybe TK aren't re-signing? Idk what to think
Ok this ask has been in my drafts for nearly a fortnight. Firstly, I wanted to apoligise to the original sender that it took me this long to get sorted. Last week was busy with work and I've also had to deal with a tonne of asks too. So apologies.
This post is also F.A.O. @nonalisa @lullaby-of-taekook @taekookgotjamz  who asked about my thoughts so to you and the rest of you...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, I'll give a bit of context and then my thoughts on what might be happening now and could happen in the future....
First, the context:
This will be broken up into 3 parts...
2018 & the 2020 contract
Fake Rumours about contracts and lack of support
What HYBE are saying
2018 & the New 2020 contract.
We can't talk about the future without looking back to the previous renegotiation.
In 2017, BTS were close to breaking point and in early 2018 contemplating disbandment. Under this cloud BigHit initiated negotiations with BTS, over several months the boys renegotitated there second phase contract, due to start in June 2020, and most likely an adjustment to the then current contract.
I have speculated that BTS, and in particular Taekook, used Dispatch to hint at them being a couple as form of contract negotiation.
Whatever happened BTS re-signed.
It should be noted that BH suggested that BTS use their own lawyers and even to consult with their parents about the contract proposals.
I feel the new contract afforded BTS a lot more autonomy and control over their futures, content and lives. First indications of this was the two-month break in 2019.
It's clear from June 2020 there is a stark change in how the boys are presented and how they interact both in front and behind the camera.
Most reports indicated that the new contract was until 2026
Major news outlets would not report that date unless it came directly from BH.
Then in 2020 during the IPO of BH on the Korean Stock Market, this came out...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So why the two dates? My initial thought was a 5 year contract with an option to extent for 2 years. However, I now think the answer is a lot simpler, BTS signed a 5 year deal which factored in 2 year time out for military enlistment, so there would be an automatic extension to 2026, hence why nearly all news outlets in 2018 mention this obvious press release date.
The Fake Rumour(s) about Contracts
Between June 2020 and now amongst some Taekookers and solo stans there is a perception that HYBE is sideling and not supporting Tae and JK.
Then, in Jan 2023, a Taekook twitter account started circulating a "blind item" claiming to be from October 2020 about how 5 members of BTS had re-signed/extended their contract, but 1 member hadn't, and another was supportive of them (despite there being not a single shred of evidence of such a blind item existing back in 2020)...
Then BANG! on 11th February, on the well-known blind item website CrazyDaysCrazyNights, the exact same blind item resurfaced but with 2023 twist that set out to villainise HYBE and Scooter Braun...
Tumblr media
My guess, because people can submit gossip to CDCN, someone did this recently for this blind.
Following it's posting, it was clear that some Taekookers and Solo JK/Tae Stans used this blind as justification for their fav's perceived lack of support from the company (despite that not exactly being the case) and ongoing assumption that Taekook were the only ones who hadn't re-signed, and will not enlist and would leave BH after 2024. Obviously forgetting that not a few days earlier they claimed this all happened back in 2020. Odd that isn't it....
These rumours were initially compounded by JK's Lives on Weverse, where he talks about not working on his album that he's not doing much. Then within days, we hear about Tae's work and promotion of it, as well as JK going to work and rumours of a BA with Calvin Klein.
HYBE, BigHit and Band PD....
As the speculation grew - within the fandom about how supposedly some of the members, particularly Taekook weren't getting the same level of support from the company - we suddenly start seeing statements and interviews, reiterating that the company supports all members in their solo projects.
In particular, Bang PD does an interview and conference where he talks about the future of K-Pop. He specifically mentioned BTS and that they are currently in contract renewal talks with BH. So unlike the blind all the members are currently negotiating their new contract, but it's likely nothing will resolve until BTS return from enlistment.
My thoughts...
I'll break this down into BTS as a whole and what might be the key points in the contract talks, then look briefly at Taekook.
BTS
BTS back in 2018 decided to renegotiate together as 1 and got a new contract as a collective. That contract I think gave them a lot more freedom, control and opportunities for solo activities until 2024/26 from June 2020.
During this new contract negotiation, which likely started last year, it's clear they're doing the same thing. We know this because RM stated it in his Live the other day. I think the catch up with Jin last week, whilst was about catching up with him it was also about the new contract. RM also stated it would be resolved until they all return from the military.
I think the new contract is about allowing BTS to create music and go on tours together every few years and in between allow them to grow as soloists too. As well as, giving them even more control over their time and music.
This is where a new BTS Label, separate from BigHit and HYBE, could come into play. It will be like what Apple Records was like for the Beatles. However, this may be the biggest sticking point for HYBE, it would be predominantly owned by BTS, with HYBE as a minority shareholder. I also wonder if BTS want their Masters, as this would increase their control. I think HYBE want to retain as much control/profit as the can from BTS, but obviously the boys want more of that for themselves too. So, I think a compromise will be reached.
I do think HYBE will give them most of the control and freedom they want and possibly more control/ownership over their Masters.
Taekook
There is a perception in certain quarters that Tae and JK are victims and are just riding out their contract until 2024. That doesn't tally with what they and the other members have said. I definitely think all 7 re-sign with BH/HYBE in some way. But I wonder if Taekook want some specific for them included too. I could see them asking for no "fanservice" moments, but that's small fry. Could they want a managed (sort of) coming out plan? That's possible. In light of recent events, could they want HYBE to support them officially moving in together as flatmates?
These are all interesting questions and thoughts I currently have.
Final thought:
What is clear though to me, is that BTS will be re-signing with HYBE in some way, and we'll possibly get that announcement shortly after the last members return from the military.

Woke up to this.
I see everyone celebrating, but do you remember last time the members sold a portion of their stock? Yup, we got the hiatus announcement. I have a lot of things going through my mind..
Maybe it has to do with enlistment? But then it makes me question why not wait until after Tae and Jungkook's solo. We know the members solos really boosted hybes stocks, especially jimins, so why not wait..
I'm also thinking of contract renewal. Contrary to popular belief, bts contract ends in 2024. With everything going on with SM, I'm a bit concerned with bts. Maybe some member/s aren't coming into agreement with their contracts. Bang pd even said in his interview that 2025 isn't certain anymore. Before anyone comes for me, this doesn't mean bts won't be bts anymore. If any member decides to leave hybe, they can still be bts just like got7 did. I trust the boys and I know they will always be 7, but if the company is playing them, then I 100% hope they get out and continue bts with a different company. Bts has built hybe from the ground up and some moves hybe has been making lately hasn't sat well with me.
All I wanna say is be strong and trust the boys. Like they've said, there's a lot of stuff they can't talk openly about yet, so we just have to wait and see what happens.

Outro: Tear is really such an insane song. You read the lyrics and you're like oh okay, this is about a particularly bad breakup. And then you watch the Break the Silence documentary and learn BTS wrote it about each other.

Excited to see what will come prior to and post-military service!

"The contract renewal talks state one thing nothing will be decided until enlistment has been finished, so that suggests. And for Bang PD to talk about it so openly would suggest he is quite confident they all will resign, otherwise like last time he wouldn't have said a thing."
Ok so let's say they all do re-sign, so when do you expect jungkook to enlist? I think that's where the issue is. It was a ridiculous decision for the company to put a comeback date in the first place. This not only made army have expectations but also probably put alot of pressure on the members themselves.
I suspect there might be a few members and possibly jungkook who might not want to enlist, and I think that's totally valid. It's not fair for a 25 year old to enlist in his prime age of his career and self-discovery, while 2 other members had the luxury to push it back until they turned 30. I won't be surprised if some don't enlist this year as planned.
In all the recent mentions what BTS/BigHit/the HYBE CEO/Bang PD have stated recently when talking about the reunion - which is most likely to occur in 2025 (though any music releases could take longer) - they will be bsck when all members have completed their enlistment.
So that would suggest that for JK to complete the minimum 19 months enlistment for the ARMY and return to BTS in 2025, he'd have to enlisted and be undergoing basic training by no later than May 2024, but I think he and Tae will be the last to enlist, probably in early 2024 (Jan to Mar).
As for age, most Korean men enlist in their early twenties, usually after university. JK is not in his musical career prime. Most artists of BTS's calibre will grow once they're in their 30s.
My guess is that Jimin, RM and Suga will have to enlist before the end of the year. Regardless, of this people also seem to have forgotten maths... Tae and Jimin have to enlist by December 2025 and RM by December next year and with Suga has to enlist by late this year, post posting their enlistment would seriously fuck up the reunion that they have promised to fans and have continued to highlight to us, as have the company too.
The only person with any luxury in all of this is JK he could push his back to 2027 and still participate in a reunion, but he isn't gonna do it, he's too honourable.

One of the best days for ARMY
[NEWS] According to Hybe, @BTS_twt has signed a second contract renewal with them.
"We have completed the board of directors' resolution to renew the exclusive contract for 7 members of BTS."
"With all members signing a second contract renewal, the group will be able to continue even after 2025 when they complete their military service."
There’s no information about contract period but.. it doesn’t mind! These are such a good news!
Today is an amazing day for Ot7 army indeed and Namjoonie knows

Also.. we should feel so proud too!

I know I've said this before, but you know what annoys me about the documentary? It doesn't provide new insights into the guys' careers. Yes, we get more of their opinions now, but it's not much different from what they've said in lives, concerts, posts, etc.
We've already discussed how disappointing it was that they didn't focus more on the early years of the band. However, I thought there would be a bit more about everything that happened during COVID. The fact that they not only had a huge tour planned but also planned to enlist after that. It's a shame they didn't address a bit more of their feelings and how they reacted to it all, especially since they kept working during those two years. Even though there are DVDs of those moments, like the online concert, they never really delved into what it meant to them as artists.
Something else that I think they should have included, and that would have been interesting to see, is how the agency planned everything. How they looked for a way to make many of the things that the group could do in 2020 and 2021, in particular, possible. Obviously, not everything in detail, but some of it.
Now the documentary is about to end, and I feel like I haven't learned anything new about them. Nothing we didn't already know, at least. The documentary looks like it was made by a fan who could only cut and paste clips, commentary, and parts of the original content together to make a video out of it all. HYBE and Disney+ missed a valuable opportunity to show something more… real. Raw.
The documentary also reminded me why I don't usually like interviews with the guys in magazines or publications. Not just because the interviewers ask superficial or repetitive questions, but because they are very guarded in what they say. Sometimes too much. That's why I really appreciated the interview Namjoon gave for a Spanish newspaper. Although I must admit that their interviews with Weverse Magazine are usually good as well.
The documentary is not bad, although my complaints might say otherwise; I just expected more, especially after reading the book. I really enjoyed hearing the guys' opinions on a lot of things, and that they themselves told us how they were feeling at X moment and so on. Something I also found interesting is how, especially in the last two episodes, they talked with a lot of uncertainty about their future as a group. I'd love to see them really talk about why they decided to renew their contracts as a group at the end, particularly. Because that uncertainty about their future as a group went on for a while, especially for some of the members. And that uncertainty ended, I think, in September? At least, that's when I noticed it.
Having said all that, in the last few days, I have particularly remembered that their culture is different, not only the culture of their country but also the culture of the industry they mainly belong to or grew up in. And that, although BTS, in many ways, disassociated themselves from it, at their core, they are still part of it. They and their agency/company. And I guess that's something that won't change.

Mafia-ish AU Idea
@ghost-postables asked an important question! lol
Tumblr media
I'm not a writer, but I like sharing fun ideas for fandoms. I had fun writing this mafia-ish AU for DP. (was heavily inspired by TV show "Law & Order" and Asian Movies/dramas.) I hope it's good. It's not much, but it's a start. I'd love to read and share ideas with everyone!!!
Vlad Masters is the founder and CEO of VladCo, an agency for assassins. (It's like the K-pop industry, but with Hitmans.) To become an assassin, one must sign with an agency like VladCo. Then, they become trainees. They wake up early, eat right, practice their moves, and go to sleep. One day, they'll debut. That's what they call it: their "debut." It means their first kill is their first show. There's a ranking in hitman. Anyone can hire a D-rank hitman, who’s probably going to leave a lot of blood and fingerprints. The client can hire an A-rank hitman, who is like the BTS and Blackpink of the hitman. The VladCo agency is in control. They get paid by the company. The company has to renew their contracts. Vlad Master isn't the mafia, but they work with them and anyone with money.
Of course there are rules: the company doesn't kill innocent people and children, however there are some exceptions. For example: After detectives find a child's body, fingers point towards the child's friend who is a Sociopath and would most likely reoffend. The father seeks revenge, the father would go to VladCo to put a hit on the killer child. the company would approve the hit. if it means putting an end to an upcoming serial killer.
maybe in this AU Danny is the son and heir of VladCo…that's pretty much all I got. Plus there are a lot of the ghost characters that would make great "Hitman".
