Il volume rende omaggio a un iconico “fashion duo”, Ossie Clark e Celia Birtwell due creativi inglesi il cui sodalizio artistico e personale, breve ma molto intenso, ha dato origine a uno stile inconfondibile che ha lasciato un segno nella Londra del periodo compreso tra la minigonna di Mary Quant e il movimento punk sovversivo di Malcolm MacLaren e Vivienne Westwood, dal 1965 al 1974.
Ossie e Celia è la storia di un’alchimia speciale, una delle prime coppie artistiche in cui uno stilista e una designer di tessuti hanno lavorato insieme completandosi in totale armonia fino alla loro separazione nel 1973. Celia era la creatrice delle meravigliose stampe ispirate alla natura e alle diverse correnti artistiche che Ossie, con la sua abilità nei tagli e nella modellistica, trasformava in abiti sensuali e femminili grazie alla leggerezza dei tessuti come crêpes, sete e chiffon che hanno conquistato il jet-set internazionale e la scena musicale dell’epoca. Da Brigitte Bardot a Liz Taylor, fino a Verushka, tutti erano affascinati dalla loro moda. Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix, Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Bianca Jagger e Marisa Berenson sono solo alcuni dei personaggi che Ossie Clark ha vestito.
Partendo da un primo importante nucleo di abiti provenienti dall’archivio di Massimo Cantini Parrini, arricchito di ulteriori prestiti provenienti dalla collezione americana di Lauren Lepire e dagli archivi londinesi della famiglia Clark e della stessa Celia Birtwell, il volume racconta il contesto e l’evoluzione dei due artisti tramite abiti, tessuti, disegni fino a oggi mai pubblicati, testimonianze video, foto ed editoriali d’epoca.

Submission Window: January 1st – January 7th, 2024

Theme: cosmic horror, Lovecraftian, and weird fiction and non-fiction essays that explore the state of horror as well as philosophies often found in cosmic horror
Cosmic Horror Monthly is a horror and weird fiction magazine edited by Charles Tyra.
Submission periods are twice yearly from January 1st – January 7th and July 1st – July 7th.
January stories accepted will appear in issues July – December
July stories accepted will appear in issues January – June
SUBMISSION PROCEDURES
We are now accepting non-fiction submissions as well as fiction. We would love to see non-fiction essays that explore the state of horror as well as philosophies often found in cosmic horror, i.e. pessimism, nihilism, existentialism, etc.
Instructions: All writing must be submitted via email to [email protected]. When submitting, include a little background information about yourself in the body and attach the story in the form of a Microsoft Word file. Please include a word count and a brief synopsis of the work.
For artwork, please put a link to the gallery/pieces in the body of the email along with any relevant background information. You may also attach example art.
Acceptable file formats for attachments are DOC and DOCX for fiction, JPG, and PNG for art.
The subject line of the email should read: “CHM Fiction Submission” for fiction, “CHM Non-Fiction Submission” for non-fiction, and “CHM Art Submission” for art.
Guidelines
Cosmic Horror Monthly is seeking cosmic horror, Lovecraftian, and weird fiction. If you aren’t sure if your work qualifies, submit it. No subject is off-limits and we do encourage writers to try and push the status quo. Please only submit a single story once and only submit one story per email. Multiple submissions are strongly discouraged. Every email will be checked!
We are interested in stories written by human beings only.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed.
At this time, we are strongly favoring stories with a contemporary narrative style. Lovecraftian themes and mythos works are welcomed but try to avoid Lovecraft pastiche and styles mimicking that of his writer circle from the early 20th century. In terms of style, we are fans of Laird Barron, John Langan, Mike Allen, Hailey Piper, Brian Evenson, Thomas Ligotti, Jon Padgett, Gemma Files, Nicole Cushing, and more.
Submit your manuscript in Shunn Standard Manuscript Format (Modern or Classic).
Word Count: We are open to stories of 1000-5000 words. Stories in the range of 2500-4000 words are preferred.
Art
If you are an artist, please submit pieces that you feel might be fitting to appear on the cover or in the interior of the magazine. If it is helpful, the magazine runs at a size of 5.5 x 8.5 inches. We do not publish art that utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its creation.

13 April 2022 - Queen’s incredible timeless classic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is selected for Induction into The National Recording Registry
Freddie Mercury’s penned epic masterpiece ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ are among the individual songs that have been selected for induction into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian, with advice from the Library's National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB), receives about 1,000 public nominations per year and annually selects 25 recordings that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and are at least 10 years old. The selections for the 2022 registry bring the total number of recordings on the registry to 600, only a minuscule portion of the Library's vast recorded-sound collection of nearly four million items.
In March 2021, "Bohemian Rhapsody" was officially certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing 10 million or more in sales and stream equivalents in the United States. QUEEN was the first British band in music history to earn the diamond song award.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" was QUEEN's first Top 10 hit in the U.S. In the U.K., it went to No. 1 for 9 consecutive weeks, a record at the time, before returning to the top of the charts again in 1991. It was named the most-streamed song of the 20th century and its companion video recently passed one billion views on YouTube, making history as the first pre-1990s video to reach one billion views on the platform. In 2004, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and Freddie Mercury's vocal performance was named by the readers of Rolling Stone magazine as the best in rock history.
We remember the struggle the band went through just to release this fabulous song as a single back in 1975! The executives wanted the song to be edited down to 3 minutes, taking away the operatic section. The band absolutely refused, especially Freddie, you release this song in it’s entirety or not at all !
Roger Taylor said, “They (Record Executives) said it was too long and wouldn’t work. We thought, ‘Well we could cut it, but it wouldn’t make any sense’, it doesn’t make much sense now and it would make even less sense then; you would miss all the different moods of the song. So we said no. It’ll either fly or it won’t.”
Brian May said, “This song was Freddie’s baby. He knew exactly what he was doing… We just helped him bring it to life.”
Freddie wrote the whole song – including the composite harmonies – on telephone books and scraps of paper, making it a little tricky for everyone else to get a handle on the thing.
After the crucial first radio play (thanks to DJ Kenny Everett who played it 14 X in 2 days!) the Capital switchboard went nuts and EMI realised they had a hit – however unusual – on their hands. That was the moment they agreed to release the full-length single.
Queen reigned the #1 slot in Britain for 9 impressive weeks and on 31 of January 1976, it was knocked off by ABBA’s hit ‘Mamma Mia’ and guitarist Björn Ulvaeus said: “I was green with envy when I heard ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. It was a piece of sheer originality that took rock and pop away from the normal path.”
Now, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has received many, many well deserved accolades.

Silly au: d-tent boys all go to the same college with Hector and Stanley in already established relationships. Stanley studying to be an archaeologist, Hector a mathematician( I headcanon that Hector is a genius especially in Mathematics and I'm just imagining him filling in chalkboards with difficult equations. Think good will hunting the movie)
Not silly at all.
A college AU with the Holes characters would be pretty interesting actually.
I couldn't see all of them going to college, but definately the majority of them after counciling should be ready for it.
Can easily see Stanley and Hector both going to college. Always saw Stanley trying to give back to under-served kids and communities through teaching, counseling, or therapy. So he could study psychology or education. The thing about Hector is he has a natural affinity for numbers, but has to do a lot of catching up from his early years of homelessness. Mathematics is a specialized degree, though. He'd likely have to go to a college that specializes in that. I can't see any of them moving far from Austin for too long. After so long apart from his mom, Hector won't move away for college. No recruitor would sway him on that. Then there is Stanley. They are definitely together by their 20s. And Stanley studying something more generalized would also keep Hector local. Eventually he may have to consider moving to continue his education if he seeks a bachelor's, but Stanley is coming with him. By then they might even be married.
Also going to college I could see X-Ray and Squid. In the Sequel Small Steps, X-Ray shows his familiarity with the law and a detective recommends he become a lawyer. And with his personality, critical thinking, and oratory skills he would be a great lawyer. Oppertunities would be there for him and he would take every chance he got. Then in Stanley Yelnats' Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake we learn why Squid had a rubber Squid at camp. He loved marine life and aspired to be a marine biologist. And while this is possible, it is expensive I could see him working as a line cook to pay his way through school. And he can continue this seasonal work between field research if he had to. His knowledge of ocean life could relate back to his cooking if he specialized in seafood.
Magnet would study to be a vet or animal caretaker at a santuary because he loves animals. Can't see him ever condoning cages or small enclosures considering he stole a designer puppy that was caged up. He could see him as a veterinary assistant with just a high school diploma. If he gets an Associates he could be a vet tech (which is more interesting). A cool job he could do without any schooling is working with an ethical breeder. I could see Jose doing it all and hopping job to job.
Not sure what Armpit or Zig-zag would study while at college. These two are still figuring themselves out. Armpit in the sequel, Small Steps Armpit continues digging holes for a landscaping service. Gets wrapped up in an assassination attempt that makes him take things slow. But he's going to college for something even if it is a general major.
With Zig-zag, he definitely applies for the military. And since he was convicted for arson he will likely get rejected. At camp he had the TV guide memorized and knew the time of day without a clock based entirely on showtimes and could tell you what would be on and which channel. After being released he didn't care for TV anymore because there was nothing good on TV anymore. Why not get into making TV shows. He's creatuve enough to be a writer. This could give him a lot of time to learn a new skill. Maybe he learns video editing and gets into production somewhere. School wouldn't be needed for something like that. Or using his unique point of view as a comedian.
For whose definately not going to college, probably Twitch. According to Stanley Yelnats' Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake, Brian started a band. With a successful music career I can't see him continuing his education unless it's something he can finish quickly related to his other interests like a trade or 2 year degree. Likely becomes an online personality before that. Using his indie fame to market himself would be right up his alley.

Various WWF Wrestlers x Fem Reader- "Double Slammy"
At the World Wrestling Federation's Slammy Awards in 1997, there was a bikini contest held involving their women's division competing for Miss Slammy, and of course you competed in that bikini contest since you were a part of the women's division.
After your name was announced, you slowly sauntered next to the ring and towards it wearing a towel that covered your torso and open toed stiletto heels.
While looking into the camera, you puckered your lips to the camera to blow a kiss at it as you walked to the stairs leading up to the ring.
Some men seated at this award show watching this even whistled at you and cheered you.
Since you were wearing a towel and you didn't have bikini straps exposed around your neck, Jerry Lawler stated he thought you might be naked under that towel.
There were many men in the audience thinking you might be naked under that towel.
You walked up the red carpeted stairs that lead to the ring, and when you stood in the middle of the ring, you stood with your back turned in front of the audience, where your hands took the bottom of your towel and lifted it up, exposing your ass in a thong, which did get a light cheer from the audience.
You then turned your body around and your hands let go of the bottom of your towel, where your hands unfolded the top of your towel, where your hands separated your towel away from each other and exposed your bare torso but your hands still held the top of your towel to cover your naked breasts.
Under that towel you were just wearing these thong bikini bottoms.
When you revealed what was under your towel, this really got a pop.
Many male wrestlers in the WWF at the time were in the audience: Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Shawn Michaels, Brian Pillman, Ahmed Johnson, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Bret Hart, Goldust, etc.
Some of those men are sexy AF, some of them are not.
They were showing some male wrestler's reactions and filming them above their shoulders.
Hunter was sitting down watching you, Shawn Michaels looked at you with a smile on his face.
Your hands still held on to the top of your towel that covered your breasts as you slowly walked in the ring to show yourself off, walking to the ropes and showing yourself off to an audience full of people.
After that, your hands folded and brought your towel back to cover your torso and you carefully walked down the stairs.
You could've worn a strapless bikini top with matching bikini bottoms---which is what I thought of writing in this fanfiction and may do that if I edit it.
For a long time, I've wondered what my female wrestling OC could wear when she competes in the 1997 Slammy Awards, but since I'm obsessed with "Three's Company"---which was a show that showcased women often walking around wearing nothing but towels---now I know!

X-men Apocalypse is a movie that feels like it should be better than it is. It certainly has some killer actors and its characters and their relationships should be able to set up a great emotional payoff. It gets most of the way there, but there are some real issues that mean it doesn't land like other ensemble films.
First, there's Apocalypse himself. Moving the X-Men franchise away from the sepcific marginalisation-persecution angle that the earlier films used and towards a more generic superhero doomsday villain is a mixed bag of an idea. On the one hand, that metaphor is one of the really compelling things about the X-Men as a concept and it really does work, whatever issues I may personally have with that particular metaphor. WIthout it, you've got a... well, kind of generic doomsday villain with aspirations of godhood, which we've seen a lot and a lot better excecuted.
On the other, it means you don't end up having to contrive another thing to do with Magneto, who is the obvious villain or co-villain choice for that, and you don't keep circling the same central theme - there are only so many ways to slice it within a superhero film, after all, and by this point they've done most of them.
But Apocalypse is, yeah kinda generic. Oscar Isaac does his best, but the juxtaposition of Magneto's horrific real-world backstory with Apocalypse's cod-darwinian superhero villain monologue feels rather uncomfortable, and there's not much personal stake that anyone really feels in beating him.
The character arcs were also... not all there. Sure, there are 12 major characters and that's a lot to deal with in a 2-hour film, but Age of Ultron, for all its flaws, managed a smilar number, with better-put-together arcs and more planting and payoff. Sure, some characters are going to be basically static in an ensemble film, but several just feel like they're here to be plot devices. That's fine for Angel and Psylocke, who are henchmen, and we've seen Hank's arc across several films.
But Quicksilver's arc never quite reaches a resolution - why not just have him tell Magneto he's his son, especially as that makes Magneto's turn back to the light work much better? Scott has much less of an arc than he probably should, even taking into account that Mystique's taken his role as leader. Kurt's is done well, although again it feels like there could've been more movement to it. There's no real "decide to be a hero" moment for anyone, and while that's not the only culmination you can have to an arc, it's a good one and would've fit many of these characters.
The middle section of the film feels flabby - the whole Stryker's base bit is an excuse for a Wolverine cameo but having him be the one who deals with all the guards robs Scott, Jean and Kurt of what could be a great hero moment and just feels like treading water to get the X-Men back together after breaking them apart.
Jean's arc should be central and I'll never complain about seeing Sophie Turner but again there's not quite enough time devoted to her character, largely because she spends the middle section of the film running around concrete corridors rather than actually having character beats.
Overall, a basically decent blockbuster flick, but one that could have been great with a bit more care in writing and editing. But then the director was Brian Singer, so maybe that's too much to hope for.

well it’s been a busy year, but i’ve tried to create a bit. my top 5 isn’t that bad, even if the First one hardly gets over 100 notes.

FREDDIE MERCURY CONCERT FOR AIDS AWARENESS

STEERING away from the serious and more emotive issues at stake here, the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert was arguably the most auspicious gathering of music stars since the Live Aid concert of 1985. Furthermore, the remaining members of Queen were pleased to acknowledge the heavier end of the rock market and recognise the enormous influence the band had on a generation of metal acts. And its an amazing what can be achieved when you're asked to play a show with your childhood heroes. Perhaps Brian May can organise the bill for this year's Castle Donington; after all, who else could get Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard, Metallica, Extreme and Robert Plant on the same bill without any argument over who goes on first?
This double video release features edited highlights from the show, directed by David Mallet, the man responsible for AC/DC's latest celluloid venture. And as well as the aforementioned metal acts, this includes performances from Elton John, Paul Young, Seal, George Michael and David Bowie with Annie Lennox, lan Hunter and Mick Ronson. Although, interestingly enough, the artists have been allowed to remix their musical offerings, which must have come as a relief to Def Leppard's Joe Elliot, who croaked his way embarrassingly through Queen's 'Now I'm Here' on the day itself.
For hardrock fans everywhere, the finest moment still came at the very start of the show when Metallica took to the stage. Anyone doubting their validity on the bill should take a look at James Hetfield and (…) pounding their way through 'Enter Sandman' in (…) afternoon sunshine and (…) again.
