Seven Birds:

they literally spent a hundred years becoming a family and lucretia tried her best to protect the but they could only save the world after all of them had been reunited and they LOVE each other they deserve to win this whole thing

Boys from the Dwarf:

Listen. These guys actually canonically have nobody else, the entire rest of the crew of this spaceship died in a nuclear incident which TECHNICALLY was Rimmer's fault. Forced family. Lister is the last human alive, Rimmer is technically a ghost kept alive by technology, Kryten is a robot and Cat is a cat. They live on this massive spaceship yet still choose to spend all their time together, it has been like 30 years at this point. I cannot stress to you how they had the option to leave and go elsewhere in this ship the size of a city at any given time yet chose to stick together after 30 years. Every opportunity any of them has had to get off this godforsaken ship, they have turned down. They would do anything for eachother but also would leave eachother on a random planet without hesitation (and actually have done). They are best buddies, they even have a handsign/handshake.

They’re an unlikely crew but ultimately they’re all each other has. Dave wakes up from stasis as the last human alive and to keep him sane the ship’s computer brought his dead bunk mate back as a hologram. They don’t usually get along but after being all each other has they ultimately need each other and do care about each other. They’re just hard assess about it. Also on board is a humanoid being called The Cat, who is from a species that evolved from a cat that was smuggled on board the ship before the accident that killed the crew. He’s usually self-centred but even after finding his own species again he ultimately decides his home is with the boys from the dwarf. And then there’s Kryten, a service mechanoid with an over-active guilt chip that they rescued from a crashed ship along the way. They’re dysfunctional and complete opposites to each other in many ways, but they are always together in every parallel universe they come across. And even when they do separate to try to do their own thing, ultimately they always come back to each other. They’ll act like they all dislike each other at times, but ultimately if trouble threatens one of them then the rest will band together. Also their dynamic together is just extremely funny.

I don't understand people's distaste towards the newer seasons of red dwarf

I love how unhinged they've all become

But I also love how Lister and rimmers friendship/relationship has evolved, I swear they give eachother heart eyes sometimes.

Kryten becomes absolutely feral

The cat is the cat (I love him, he's beautiful and always amazing)

I don't care how old they've become/look, they're all baby girls to me and the newer seasons deserve love too

I do however understand that the writing is a bit iffy?? Because of the whole lawsuit thing, but it still ✨feels✨like red dwarf

Today's dream

So I was for some reason Lister and I decided to play better than life with the crew. Well we joined and nothing special was really happening. Later, I was talking with rimmer and he said he has a date with someone so I was like "omgg no way woow", but here's the thing. That girl (idk how she looked like anymore) just INVITED me to their date. And I actually came. I was waiting for them to come, but only rimmer arrived. He was extremely mad it was really funny XD anyways we were sitting there together and for some reason...we started singing cotton eye Joe😭 Then cat and kryton came and started singing with us, and then I woke up from that dream in that dream and I went on Tumblr and started writing this down, after that I woke up for real and actually started to write this up😍

I’ve been seeing Rimmer outfit appreciation post lately and I wanted to add the OG JMC uniform, I mean…look at him. It doesn’t wash him out either which more muted colours can do.

He must have so proud when he put it on the first time, 16 years old on his first away mission (I’m assuming the JMC works like the UK military and you can join at 16) regulation boots polished to gleaming, tie done over and over until it sat just right, sewing over his arm patch again with meticulous precision just so he could be sure it wouldn’t come off. So full of hope, he was going to become an officer, he was going to make his family love him, he’d be successful just like his brothers, sure he hadn’t been able to get into the academy but school isn’t for everyone, plus he’d get a more hands on education in a real mining ship, no theoreticals here, just the unaltered experience, he was going to prove them all wrong, he was good enough, he wasn’t a failure, he wasn’t worthless, he was going to be one of the greats. He’d taken a grinning picture next to the Dwarf before he’d gotten on board the first time and sent it to his Mother, he’d never heard back about it.

Oh how naive he’d been, he’d think to himself years on, how childishly, ignorantly naive. How stupid, how worthless, suddenly the uniform he’d been so proud of caused him no amount of shame, he shamed it by never getting as far as he wanted, by the time that Lister comes around he’s fourteen years and two menial promotions in to a devastatingly pathetic career that his family (or at least his parents) enjoyed pointing out him immensely, his brothers were marginally kinder, Frank had even given him an awkward side hug and quoted a Bible verse about everything working itself together for good that he didn’t believe in, but at least he’d tried, Rimmer begrudgingly admitted to himself, John had showed his support by having his wife interrupt their Mother with wedding inquiries when they were engaged, then baby preparations when she’d degraded him for what he deemed too long, his wife was genuinely nice, their parents hadn’t liked him marrying her as pretty or as intelligent as she was, probably because she was nice, she baked and he was always the first to try a new recipe, she was the only one of the in laws who remembered to invite him to family celebrations and events, she even had coffee with him when he was shore leave on Io, her voice was soft and her hugs were warm, she would shoot him these commiserating looks over the table, and Howard, well he hadn’t said anything, which was better than joining in, Howard stayed mercifully silent and he was known for his sharp tongue.

Despite all this the uniform was a strange comfort, even though it was a constant reminder of his failures. It wasn’t that he didn’t have “normal people clothes” as he put it, or couldn’t fit in a pair of jeans, that had gotten a slap across the back of the head, it was that the clothes made him feel oddly vulnerable, he’d always imagined he’d ware them on shore leave or a weekend partying with friends, friends he’d never made, they made him insecure, so they sat in the bottom of the wardrobe locker untouched. He knew it was sad, but so was the rest of his life.

The song has very little to do with the post other than being something angsty I’m sure would listen to and Josh Groban deserves some appreciation for that performance.
