Thanks to @harper_wave and @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: What is your favorite story collection about women? I am intrigued by the concept of how certain stories, such as myths would be different if women were the ones telling them. I like that this book is a collection of essays that I don't have to take in all at once. I'm hoping to learn more about the ways that women's perspectives have been silenced in storytelling. 🌺🌻SYNOPSIS🌻🌺 What story would Eve have told about picking the apple? Why is Pandora blamed for opening the box? And what about the fate of Cassandra who was blessed with knowing the future but cursed so that no one believed her? What if women had been the storytellers? Elizabeth Lesser believes that if women’s voices had been equally heard and respected throughout history, humankind would have followed different hero myths and guiding stories—stories that value caretaking, champion compassion, and elevate communication over vengeance and violence. Cassandra Speaks is about the stories we tell and how those stories become the culture. It’s about the stories we still blindly cling to, and the ones that cling to us: the origin tales, the guiding myths, the religious parables, the literature and films and fairy tales passed down through the centuries about women and men, power and war, sex and love, and the values we live by. Stories written mostly by men with lessons and laws for all of humanity. We have outgrown so many of them, and still they endure. This book is about what happens when women are the storytellers too—when we speak from our authentic voices, when we flex our values, when we become protagonists in the tales we tell about what it means to be human. #CassandraSpeaks #Elizabeth Lesser #Bibliolifestyle #HarperWave #books #BookFeature #Bookstagram #gifted #Booktour #BookPhotos #bibliophile #BooksandPlants #BooksOutside #storycollections #WomenAuthors #pinkbooks #hardcovers #bookworm #BooksBooksBooks #bookishactivity #feminism #WomenStories #reading #bookdragon #myths #storytelling #prettycovers #newrelease #TBR (at Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO6Jwv0rBO2/?igshid=oyiznc1d88oz

"Friendship is the sweetest form of love. So when I say, I'll be your friend 'til the end, it's as good as saying I'll keep you in my heart 'til its' very last beat." I participated in @latinxreadtoo #galtinasbookswap and I was so happy to receive this sweet gift from Chantel @chanty224. I have been wanting to read this book for such a long time. You can never have enough bookmarks and sloths are just the cutest. If there is one thing I love about bookstagram is the genuine friendships I have made on this platform. I love and appreciate each and every one of you who has come into my life, entertained my nerdy conversations or just brightened up my day when I needed it the most. I never thought I would connect with such genuine loving, caring human beings. QOTD: What do you love about bookstagram friends? 🏝SYNOPSIS:🏝 Sought-after social media influencer Sara Vance, in recovery from an eating disorder, is coming into her own, with a potential career expansion on the horizon. Despite the good news, her successful siblings (and their perfect spouses) have a way of making her feel like the odd one out. So, when her unreliable boyfriend is a no-show for a Florida family vacation, Sara recruits Luis Navarro—a firefighter paramedic and dive captain willing to play the part of her smitten fiancé . . . Luis’s big Cuban familia has been in Key West for generations, and his quiet strength feeds off the island’s laidback style. Though guarded after a deep betrayal, he’ll always help someone in need—especially a spunky beauty with a surprising knowledge of Spanish curse words. Soon, he and Sara have memorized their “how we met” story and are immersed in family dinners, bike tours, private snorkeling trips . . . sharing secrets, and slow, melting kisses. #Latinxreadtoo #Galtinasbookswap #books #GalentinesDay #bookmark #romancebook #sloths #teainfuser #bookishactivities #bookstagram #bookdragon #LatinxRomance #PriscillaOliveras #IslandAffair #bookdragon #readLatinxbooks #bibliophile #booksaboutlove #bookaddict #ILovebooks #libros #bookswaps #bookish #booklover #BookFeature #LatinxFiction #read #KeyWest #BooksofIG #FloridaBooks (at Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLSzbD4Awlo/?igshid=5k8guuq5j1k3

"It's not the happy of before- how could it be? But it's our kind of happy, and it's enough." Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Goodreads for the gifted copy. QOTD: Does a character's decision making ever affect the way you rate a book's content? I absolutely love domestic suspense/thrillers and this one did not disappoint. I was sucked in from the beginning and I could not wait for the secrets to be revealed. Each new clue about the secrets had my emotions on edge. By the time the big reveal happened, I was completely captivated. The last 50 pages had me sobbing and I did not expect to get so emotional. My emotions were all over the place throughout the story and I found myself literally talking to the pages at some parts. I loved that B.A. Paris showed how versatile her writing is with this one. She blended genres seamlessly without losing the emotional connection. The tension building was fantastic. I loved how realistic the family and social dynamics were depicted. The author did a great job of highlighting how complicated family and friendship relationships can be when they are so closely embedded. It was easy to see why everyone held on to their secret for so long. The story also highlighted not only how deep family love runs but also how deep the family hurts can be when not discussed openly. It makes you question if you should ever hide a secret from a loved one to protect them from pain. Although I didn't agree with some of the character's decisions, I could understand why they handled certain situations the way they did. Grief is complicated and marraiges and family relationships are difficult and only the people directly involved and affected by those situations can decide what is right for them. We all cope in different ways and it was interesting to live the story through the character's mindsets. BA Paris is easily becoming a favorite author. Happy Saturday everyone! It's a tour stop day for Fresh Brewed Murder by Emmeline Duncan that released 3/30. Thanks to @kensingtonbooks @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: What's your favorite coffee or drink order? Coffee and murder mystery...sign me up please. I'm so excited about this first installment of A Ground Mystery series. Having coffee in the morning while reading is one of my favorite things to do. I also enjoy trying seasonal coffee flavors at my favorite spots. Cozy mysteries are comfort reads for me and I can't wait to curl up with a nice warm blanket, a cup of joe and this new book. If you're a coffee lover, you don't want to miss this read. ☕🔪SYNOPSIS☕🔪 Portland is famous for its rain, hipsters, craft beers . . . and coffee. Sage Caplin has high hopes for her coffee cart, Ground Rules, which she runs with her business partner, Harley—a genius at roasting beans and devising new blends. That’s essential in a city where locals have intensely strong opinions about cappuccino versus macchiato—especially in the case of one of Sage’s very first customers. . . . Sage finds the man’s body in front of her cart, a fatal slash across his neck. There’s been plenty of anger in the air, from longtime vendors annoyed at Ground Rules taking a coveted spot in the food truck lot, to protesters demonstrating against a new high-rise. But who was mad enough to commit murder? Sage is already fending off trouble in the form of her estranged, con-artist mother, who’s trying to trickle back into her life. But when Sage’s very own box cutter is discovered to be the murder weapon, she needs to focus on finding the killer fast—before her business, and her life, come to a bitter end. . . . #FreshBrewedMurder #Bibliolifestyle #EmmelineDuncan #BookTour #book #KensingtonBooks #bookstagram #bookdragon #bookfeature #bookish #bookphoto #booksandfood #booksanddrinks #bibliophile #cozymystery #booksaboutcoffee #booklifestyle #booksbooksbooks #newrelease #murdermystery #bookstoread #Ilovebooks #reading #bookworm #bookishactivity #gifted #fiction #paperbacks #yellowbooks (at Dallas BBQ) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNOL0w9LLCq/?igshid=p1r8njw8q17g

Thanks to @harperperennial for the gifted copy. QOTD: What Black memoir do I need to read next? "Sure, I'll Be Your Black Friend" by Ben Philippe is a memoir told in essays about his personal experiences as the 'black friend' navigating white spaces. Philippe's writing style cuts right to the chase and he doesn't hold back what he feels. He provides history and context to important issues but at the same time makes you laugh out loud until tears are streaming down your face. I want to say he gives you doses of truth with a side of shenanigans and wry humor. Philippe is the king of black boy joy and it comes through in the way he he tells his story. I've never read a piece that made feel introspective and laugh hysterically at the same time. Ben Philippe is the friend you need in your life. I am definitely going to revisit this one a thousand more times because it is an absolute gem. I loved it and I highly recommend you pick this one up. This is a perfect book to read and gift to your friends and family. Here are some of my favorite quotes: 🖊 "If you don't know what your Blackness means yet, I highly recommend moving to the United States: they will tell you very quickly." 🖊 "Sometimes a smile is the safest way to briefly show fangs." 🖊 "His privilege isn't about the gates that are opened for you but the bags of sand he doesn't have to go through the world carrying." 🖊 "This world will never run put of ways of shrinking those on the margins to a pit they'll then have to carry in their own stomachs." #SureIllBeYourBlackFriend #Books #BenPhilippe #OliveInfluencer #Bookstagram #BookPhotos #BlackMemoir #ReadBlackBooks #BookdragonReviews #Bookworm #BookFeature #Bibliophile #essays #ownvoices #diversereads #read #bookrecommendation #bookish #HarperPerennial #BooksandFood #bookishactivity #BlackReads #paperbacks #new release #food #BooksandEats #BlackAuthorsofIG #BlackStories #BlackNonfiction (at Estrella del Mar) https://www.instagram.com/p/COv4a05LMwN/?igshid=eqtrqfgmbfx

Happy Pub Day to Maybe, Maybe Marisol Rainey! Thank you to @harperkids and @theshelfstuff for the gifted copy. QOTD: What book from your childhood reminds you of your adventures as a kid? Children's and middle grade reads bring me so much joy. I am so excited to read this one because Marisol reminds me so much of myself as a child. I also have a mother who was born somewhere else. I lived for backyard adventures so much so that I would dig up the backyard looking for dinosaur bones. I always wanted to climb trees and build a tree house so I could be alone with my books. I had a big imagination and wanted to grow up and be the girl version of Indiana Jones. If you're looking for a fun, adventurous read please pick this one up and be sure to share with the young ones in your life. It is also a perfect read for API Heritage Month and if you're looking for books with Filipino representation. 🌳SYNOPSIS🌳 Marisol Rainey's mother was born in the Philippines. Marisol's father works and lives part-time on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. And Marisol, who has a big imagination and likes to name inanimate objects, has a tree in her backyard she calls Peppina . . . but she's way too scared to climb it. This all makes Marisol the only girl in her small Louisiana town with a mother who was born elsewhere and a father who lives elsewhere (most of the time)--the only girl who's fearful of adventure and fun. Will Marisol be able to salvage her summer and have fun with Jada, her best friend? Maybe. Will Marisol figure out how to get annoying Evie Smythe to leave her alone? Maybe. Will Marisol ever get to spend enough real time with her father? Maybe. Will Marisol find the courage to climb Peppina? Maybe. #MaybeMaybeMarisolRainey #bookfeature #ErinEntradaKelly #HarperKids #TheShelfStuff #BIPOCbookstagram #bookphotos #middlegradebooks #Filipinobooks #bookish #bibliophile #bookworm #APIHeritageMonth #Asianauthors #bookstagram #booksoutside #booksandtrees #bookdinnature #bookrecs #HarperInfluencer #APIBookstagramtour #Asianbooks #bookdragon #ownvoices #Louisiana #bookstagrammer #bookishactivities #weneeddiversebooks #readingislife #readingiscool (at McCarren Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/COedpoRrBwc/?igshid=czu623cpkzl4

It's a tour date! Thanks for my gifted copy to @bibliolifestyle and @kensingtonbooks. QOTD: What female character from a book do you really love? I am excited to read this one because it features a badass female detective who wears many hats. She loves to read, helps to run her parents cafe after they passed, as well as helps to raise her five siblings who work there. She is also in the middle of planning her wedding. I love stories where women get to have it all. 📚SYNOPSIS📚 Between training the new town garda and trying to set a wedding date with her fiancé, Macdara Flannery, Siobhán O’Sullivan is feeling a bit overwhelmed. She’s looking forward to visiting the new bookshop and curling up with an exciting novel—only to discover the shelves contain nothing but Literature with a capital L. The owner not only refuses to stock romances, mysteries, and science fiction, but won’t even let customers enter his store unless they can quote James Joyce or Sean Hennessey. Despite the owner deliberately limiting his clientele, he’s hosting a reading and autographing event featuring up and coming Irish writers who will be taking up residency in Kilbane for a month. Among them is indie author Deirdre Walsh, who spends more time complaining about the unfairness of the publishing industry and megastar bestsellers instead of her own creative works, causing a heated debate among the writers. She seems to have a particular distaste for the novels of Nessa Lamb. Then Deirdre’s body is found the next day in the back of the store—with pages torn from Nessa’s books stuffed in her mouth. Now, Siobhán must uncover which of Kilbane’s literary guests took Deirdre’s criticisms so personally they’d engage in foul play . . . #bibliolifestyle #kensingtonbooks #MurderInAnIrishBookshop #book #CarleneOConnor #cozymystery #IrishVillageMystery #bookstagram #bookdragon #bookphotos #bookish #booksoutside #reading #booktour #bookfeature #bookstorebooks #bibliophile #bookseries #gifted #booksaboutbooks #neighborhood #WomensHistoryMonth #fiction #murdermystery #Femaleauthors #Hardcovers #booksbooksbooks #booksinBrooklyn #bookishactivity (at Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMA-lX2AT-u/?igshid=wdhdlqrmruwv

I've decided to do something new going forward so Fridays are for guides. I have so many ideas for themes within Afro-Latinx, Puerto Rican, and Latinx spectrum.I really enjoyed putting the last guide together and it helped me organize book themes and recommendations in one place.
