The Ultra Stage 3 English subtitles for DVD

Here are the English subtitles for the DVD of the third stage musical of My Hero Academia: "The “Ultra” Stage Symbol of Peace" and it covers the forest training arc and Kamino (chapter 70 to 95). The Japanese title is: 「僕のヒーローアカデミア」The “Ultra" Stage 平和の象徴.

The subtitles are in .ass formats and were synced using Aegisub.

Musical3_MP4 is for the main show in disc 1. Instead, Musical3_PanoramicMP4 is for the panoramic camera view of disc 2. (I am still syncing this version!)

These subtitles are synced with the officially released dvd but can be used only after transforming the dvd (which has multiple vobs files) into a video file. This is the main dvd (non panoramic) version, panoramic version will be added soon!

BnHA Episode 122, a.k.a. NOBUHIKO YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN

THEY CAN'T KEEP LETTING HIM GET AWAY WITH IT!

oh my god.

so first off, let's just get the one big major criticism out of the way: this episode was definitely not up to the same high quality standards as the first third of this season. and hey, I get it! you're doing 24 episodes in all, you're on a time crunch, and you've only got so many animators to go around. and the quality of some of these earlier season 6 eps (118 and 119 especially) was seriously some of the best this series has ever had. by contrast, chapters 284 and 285, while still easily ranking among my favorite chapters of all time, definitely do not go as hard with the visuals as some of the other War arc chapters (that very last 285 page being the one standout exception).

anyway so yeah, it was still a slight disappointment, but I'm fine with it. it does mean Deku vs Kacchan 2 will still retain its crown as my all time fave, but the real meat of this episode was never going to be about the flashy visuals -- it's all about that sweet, sweet character development.

two more very minor criticisms before I get to the OMG nonstop gushing part of this post! one, they did cut out this scene from ch 282 where Tomura originally had TWO quirk-be-gone bullets in his possession and Kacchan actually destroyed the second one.

YOU THOUGHT WE WOULDN'T REMEMBER, BONES. BUT WE DID. so for everyone who is giving Kacchan his well-earned love, praise, and admiration today, don't forget to also give him props for saving Aizawa's other leg, or whichever other appendage this doubtless would have hit. my boy out here lowkey saving his sensei from being ReDestro'd.

and then one final nitpicky little quibble, which is that the anime subtitlers declined to use the "Catch-A-Kacchan" translation, despite it being the single cleverest translation of all time, and by far Caleb Cook's biggest and most important contribution to the BnHA canon. alas, twas not meant to be. BUT ANYWAY NOW ON TO THE GUSHING.

okay so first off, we all know that Aizawa is an absolute badass and the most metal motherfucker in this entire series, and that Shouto has by this point all but perfected the art of swooping in to save the day at pivotal moments, and that the U.A. kids all need ALL OF THE THERAPY GODDAMMIT, and that Deku is a COMPLETE LUNATIC who thinks that HAVING FUNCTIONAL ARMS IS OVERRATED ANYWAYS. yes and yes and yes and yes. and if you wish, you can read all about my thoughts on these things and more, here and here and here and here.

but you already know what I actually came here to talk about today.

first of all, YOU GUYS. the music. THIS FUCKING MUSIC, THOUGH. they used the exact same OST track that was used for the "why was I the one who ended All Might?" speech all the way back in DvK2. THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE "TIME FOR NOBUHIKO TO FLEX HIS VOICE ACTING CHOPS" MUSIC. A TRADITION HAS BEEN BORN.

anyway so if anyone needs me I'll just be sitting here playing this scene on repeat until the end of time. no big deal though. I can quit at any time. not like I'm obsessed with it or anything. I definitely love this scene and this character a perfectly normal amount.

All Might talking about how Katsuki understood from the get-go about how OFA was a secret that could put other people at great risk really hits hard in hindsight. especially when you realize that Katsuki really did know right from the start, and he willingly accepted that risk with no hesitation, and he absolutely did suffer consequences for it (it was his knowledge of OFA that led to him following Deku and subsequently getting involved in this battle). and I don't doubt that he has absolutely zero regrets.

okay but can we seriously just talk for a sec about the way Kacchan's anxiety is practically boiling over when he starts to ask All Might about the Fourth's cause of death?? I feel like this is one thing that kind of got overlooked at the time in the manga because we were so completely distracted by EVERY SINGLE OTHER DAMN THING IN THAT CHAPTER lol. but hearing it again here, you feel how worried he actually is about Deku, and idk why but it all of a sudden just hit me so damn hard.

"I'm worried about him. you are, too." because that truly is what this whole conversation is really about. or at least that's the driving force behind it. behind this whole episode, in fact. it's simple, when you get right down to it: Kacchan is afraid that Deku is going to die. it's literally been the biggest fear on his mind ever since Deku unlocked SIXQUIRKS. right from the start, his mind was immediately going to the worst case scenarios. he immediately deduced that OFA might have a deeper connection to AFO than any of them realized (shoutout to Kacchan for being the original "Deku is a horcrux" truther lol. ONE DAY HORIKOSHI WILL FINALLY REVEAL THE TRUTH AND PROVE US RIGHT). he instantly zeroed in on the sobering fact that all of the previous OFA users died young. and as he reveals here, he took particular notice of the fact that All Might seems to be hiding something about OFA IV's death, and he is goddamn PRESSED about it.

and I absolutely LOVE the way that Nobu voiced this part of the conversation. when he starts to question All Might, his breathing starts to pick up a little, and his voice starts to get louder, and the words start to spill out faster and faster almost like he's in a rush to get it all out, and his voice starts to crack just a little, and he goes from not looking at All Might to hesitantly, almost fearfully glancing at him from the side, and then finally turning to face him head on with his eyes all wary and his teeth gritted like he's bracing himself for the very worst (because he is).

and then he finally just asks him, "was it because you realized something?" and then he takes in this achingly hesitant little breath before finishing with, "...about One for All?" and just. the whole scene is just SO well done. like, he's seriously so fucking scared about this, though. but at the same time he just needs to know, and just. oh my god. and Nobuhiko manages to emote all of this so clearly, and that is such a difficult line to walk when you're dealing with a character like Katsuki who's always so hesitant to show his vulnerability. he has to portray these two separate layers of Bakugou at the same time -- the part of him that is trying his hardest to be nonchalant and matter-of-fact in order to hide his fears and emotions; while at the same time also portraying said emotions which are clearly seeping through anyway, regardless of his efforts.

anyway so yeah. I could talk about this for eighty years and never get sick of it honestly but let's move on.

let me tell you guys, I've been bracing myself for this scene for two full years, and it still kicked my ass. THIS SCENE HAD NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE. literally RIGHT IN the feels. direct hit.

"he's always been that way." no, but guys. the regret when he says that. the way he states it with such simplicity and clarity. almost profound. this is just a truth of the world. this is just how Deku is. this is something that took him so long to understand, but now that he does, he can't fathom how he was never able to see it before. and then that ever-so-slight bitterness that creeps into his voice as he goes on to describe how he fucked it all up. ;_;

and then last but not least!!

"ijimeta." one word, in Japanese. it all comes down to that. and his voice gets so quiet. this whole last part of his speech is so quiet and so soft. but when he says this very last part, his voice wavers perfectly on that last word, and it just. sounds so resigned, somehow, but also just... almost faltering, for just a moment. you can hear the regret as clear as day, but you also hear the fear once again as he finally reveals this fact -- literally his biggest shame; the worst thing that he's ever done -- to All Might. his hero. just, damn.

anyway. so needless to say, despite my expectations being SKY HIGH, this scene absolutely met all of them and blew me away. as expected from the best fucking voice actor in Japan, according to me, a single lone person, whose subjective opinion is absolutely definitely not biased in any possible way.

back to the action! and Nobu getting to do his very best Deku impression lol.

can you believe this kid. one single nerdy analysis speech was all it took for him to start emitting such powerful Main Character Energy that even Endeavor got taken in and was just automatically following orders lol.

awesome choice of music here while Deku and Tomura continued to battle and Bakugou laid out his plan. you know it's good when they still manage to make you feel the tension even though this is basically just a generic action scene, and you additionally already know exactly what's going to happen.

I have no idea why, but that part with Deku's "Kacchan... my 'Deku' means 'you can do it!'" speech juxtaposed against the image of him going all out against Tomura with such fierce determination hit me like 100x harder than it did in the manga. I was NOT expecting that to be as powerful as it was. damn near gave me chills.

literally the only time I've ever been on board with the whole "FUCK YEAH, I'LL JUST BREAK ALL MY BONES AT YOU!!" deal lol. it literally makes no goddamn sense but this scene is just so raw.

THEN WE YEET THE ENDEAVOR!!!!

SO ON-BRAND. NO DEKU-INSPIRED PLAN IS EVER TRULY COMPLETE WITHOUT A GOOD YEETING.

and then the next few moments are some of the most legitimately unsettling of the entire series, as we have Tomura screaming at the top of his lungs while being burnt to cinders (and I mean, I love Tomura dearly, but I get it; he literally just Thanos'd tens of thousands of innocent people), followed by AFO's creepy fucking ghost hand reaching out all "LEND ME YOUR BODY~~~" which is a scene that absolutely NO ONE ASKED FOR but okay.

but then right afterwards though! when AFO finally did take over, and you hear that "TV shutting down" sound effect all of a sudden? and then the next few scenes with all the BKDK flashbacks are also weirdly TV-themed? I could not for the life of me figure this out at first, but now I'm actually thinking it could be a reference to the chapter 306 color page?

OR MAYBE NOT? I actually have no idea. anyway though it may have been random af but it worked for me, what can I say.

AND THEN THE MOMENT OF TRUTH AT LONG LAST.

THIS ACTUALLY IS SO PRETTY THOUGH?? LIKE I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT COLOR COMBINATION AT ALL?

AND IT HAPPENS SO QUICKLY!!!!??? YOU BARELY EVEN HAVE TIME TO BLINK?!?!!

oh. my. god.

THE WAY THE MUSIC SUDDENLY GOT QUIET. THE WAY HIS NARRATING VOICE CAME ON AND, PRAISE EVERYTHING, IT REALLY WAS DEEPER. THAT REALLY WAS THE ADULT HIM. SAME AS DEKU. MY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS ARE SO FUCKING MUCH RIGHT NOW.

AND THEN THE FLASHBACKS!! THE SCENES OF THEM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL!! AND GROUND ZERO!! AND THEN CUTTING TO THE TWO OF THEM AS LITTLE BABIES, AND THE TV SCREEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SWITCHING TO COLOR??? AND THE HANDS??? THE REACHING?!?!

AND THEN?!?!?!

"HEY MAKESTE, IF WE GO AHEAD AND ACTUALLY MAKE THE VOLUME 29 COVER CANON, WILL YOU FINALLY FORGIVE US FOR ALL OF THE HALF-BAKED PAINFULLY OOC FILLER EPISODES AND OVAS?" WELL, STUDIO BONES, YOU DRIVE A HARD BARGAIN, BUT HOW CAN I POSSIBLY REFUSE.

AND THEN THEY FULL ON MURDERED ME!!!!!

that's right bitches. DREAD IT. RUN FROM IT. THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ARRIVES ALL THE SAME.

holy shit. and then THE END CREDITS oh my freaking heart. words can't even describe.

Studio Bones out here not resting until they've succeeded in making EVERY SINGLE PERSON feel the MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF SADNESS THAT A HUMAN BEING CAN SUSTAIN. their callousness truly knows no bounds.

anyway so there we have it! part one of the spectacular season 6 Bakugou Katsuki Redemption Saga. I laughed, I cried, I cried, I cried, I cried a little bit more, and then I cried a little bit more after that. final verdict: yeah, it was pretty good.

BIG BNHA STAGE PLAY NEWS

okay hi 👋 if you've been enjoying my BNHA Ultra Stage gifsets and you want to know where you can watch the show, this post is for you.

There's going to be an online event called JAPAN 2.5D STAGE PLAY WORLD 2021 happening althroughout August, with the intent of "Bringing Japan's 2.5D stage performances to the world." It's the first time they're doing it and they're rolling out the gate with their big guns.

The event will showcase three of the most popular 2.5D stage plays from the last handful of years - LIVE SPECTACLE: NARUTO from 2016, Boku No Hero Academia: The Ultra Stage from 2019, and Sailormoon: The Musical Nogizaki46 version from. 2019. each show will be available for streaming WITH OFFICIAL ENGLISH SUBTITLES for about a week each, starting with Naruto in the first week of August.

Each viewing is only 15USD and WILL NOT REQUIRE A VPN. you just need to choose which country/timezone and date you want to watch, and if you miss the live broadcast on your schedule, the VOD will be available within 24 hours of your chosen timeslot.

This is a pretty big opportunity coz 2.5D shows have been slowly gaining popularity outside of Japan, but also because in Japan, the 2.5D industry isnt entirely lucrative despite its popularity with local anime fans. It's been said that the cast and staff dont get paid during rehearsals, and really only start getting anything from ticket and merch sales, so sometimes some actors and crew members would do more than one show at once or back-to-back, which is tough considering these shows tour major cities across the country for an average of 30 performances. And then of course the pandemic caused ALL active shows in March 2020 to shut down, as expected, and because times were hard, some shows began performing again by August or September last year, despite the pandemic continuing to rage on in most of big cities in Japan where 2.5D shows tour, meaning cast and crew were all basically risking their lives to make money and entertain fans - in fact, some shows had to either recast, reschedule or cancel when anyone in their cast or staff caught the virus (i know Haikyuu had to recast for their October 2020 show coz two people caught COVID, and the 2nd BNHA stage play, which only got to play 4 performances before the lockdowns, got pushed back even further into 2021 because at least two people in the staff caught COVID). 2.5D shows dont usually stream outside the country, and DVDs/blu rays and merch are only sold in Japan, so international fans have had to pay more than an extra pretty penny or two to support the shows and to help spread the word internationally. The fact that 2.5D shows like BNHA, Naruto, HAIKYUU, etc. started being available to stream online in Japan is a big enough deal on its own, and the reason some of them became available to stream internationally during the pandemic is kind of a sign of how the industry needed a boost, financially and otherwise. So this paid event is a FANTASTIC opportunity to support the industry and the people who work in it while also spreading the word to more fans, in the hopes that 2.5D shows will become as much of a tenet in international anime fandom as it is in Japan's anime fandom. If this does well, it might mean that future shows will become more accessible to international fans as well.

So if you're a fan of BNHA or any of these other anime, PLEASE spread the word and support this event! I've obviously seen the BNHA musical (my sister bought a DVD in 2019) and it is a LOT of fun, i can promise that much. i know the Naruto musical was also BIG BIG HYPE when it came out in 2016, and i think the Sailormoon musical already had a beloved legacy and history on stage before the 2019 version came out. It's gonna be really good if this got a LOT of international support, so please tell your friends and fellow anime fans 😁

are you staying home from work/school?

Yup I am. My classes have moved online and I’m working remotely from home as well. It took a while for us to figure out what kind of things we could still do remotely for work.

My parents, my sister, and our cat Hobbes.

Are you a homebody?

Ha yeah mostly. So it’s not too bad. I still don’t like the feeling of “shouldn’t go out” tho. I can’t imagine the toll this may be taking on extroverts tbh. 

what movies have you watched recently? what shows are you watching?

Well to be honest I haven’t really watched anything lately, save for BNHA & KNY with my sister. I plan on watching Beastars and Brand New Animal (BNA) when I have less homework and more free time. Oh yes and I did start Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun (weird name, I know) like last month or so, but I’m pretty much caught up so I’m just waiting for it to get ahead with the episodes.

There’s this one kdrama that I was watching with my sister a while ago that we still need to finish, it’s called Touch Your Heart. I also started other kdramas called Love Alarm, Rookie Historian Goo Raye Ryung (both are on Netflix), and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo a while ago. I like kdramas but why must their episodes be long. 😭

I also really want to watch a couple of donghua (Chinese animation) movies called White Snake and NezHa: Birth of the Demon Child. I’m looking for a site where I can watch White Snake with English subtitles, and I can’t seem to find NezHa anywhere probably because it already had a Western release with official English subtitles. :( I’ve seen some people say that the official subtitles were really bad though. P.s. I recommend The Legend of Hei movie, another Chinese donghua!

(2/Jan/2023: bakuhatsufallinlove went through more proofreading and fixed some mistakes! This was done for the main disc file, not yet for the panoramic version file)

The subtitles are in .ass formats and were synced using Aegisub.

Musical2_MP4 is for the main show in disc 1. Instead, Musical2_PanoramicMP4 is for the panoramic camera view of disc 2.

These subtitles are synced with the officially released dvd but can be used only after transforming the dvd (which has multiple vobs files) into a video file.

In order, this is what you need to do to fully enjoy the musical with subtitles:

Last movie I saw: All the way through? ………….. I think it was Little Nemo on YouTube. But random clips I’ve seen more recently? Pieces of the BNHA movie with Spanish subtitles…

Last thing I googled: Zodiac. Because I forgot which things were the Zodiac. 8);;; Before that, I think it was the first line of a police station’s address ‘cause I needed the full address to Uber there for some paperwork. BY THE WAY…. Uber has NO IDEA where that address is and kept sending the poor Uber drivers in circles. I had to use Google Maps to direct them.

Favourite musician: WAIT, DO GROUPS COUNT? ………………………. I don’t have a favorite single person. :C

Song stuck in my head: Nothing. I’m listening to 10 Minute Power Hours and thus NO MUSIC CAN HURT ME… But a few days ago it was Pentagon’s song Humph! ‘cause y’know. YouTube told me it exists and there is orange eye shadow and I had to process that.

Other blogs: I only have one Tumblr. I get asked if I have an adult one for adult art and I’M SORRY TO SAY THAT I JUST DON’T MAKE ADULT ART… Are Twitters blogs? I have one, but I forget about it every other day ‘cause I don’t follow a lot of people and the way it chooses the posts I see and their order confuses me.

Do I get asks: Not normally since I haven’t been doing anything Dragon Age related, but some Lindrel stuff is going around again and someone told me Lindrel is sexy.

Amount of sleep: I usually get about six hours and then wake up feeling sick. I’m not good at sleeping. xD;;

Lucky number: Numbers don’t give me luck, but I like 4, 2, and their multiples. EXCEPT FOR 36. ‘Cause I don’t like 3 and I also don’t like 9. (36 is 9x4.) ‘CAUSE 9 IS 3 TIMES 3 AND YOU CAN’T DO THAT.

What I’m wearing: Long-sleeved, black shirt by Carhartt ‘cause it has a SHIRT POCKET. Also black pants that are probably for yoga. Spoilers: This is what I always wear at home. I literally have eight sets of the same clothes. Then for work it’s Armachillo shirts and Lee’s blue jeans (jeans I bought from SEARS). I’m simple and can’t handle thinking about fashion. If I like it, I buy a week’s worth and that’s that for two years and then I try to rebuy the same stuff as my wardrobe disintegrates around me. Next step is for my next set of Armachillo shirts to all be blue… Currently, Monday and Thursday are blue, Tuesday and Friday are red, and Wednesday is green. I can’t go to Publix on Wednesdays or else people think I work there ‘cause it’s almost the exact same green and looks like the manager attire.

Dream job: I just want to be comfortable. I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

Dream trip: I don’t like traveling. Dream trip is to not take a trip. >->

Play any instruments: Not anymore. I used to play a little piano and I was good at French horn and eventually got a double horn (plays French horn and B flat horn- you use the thumb key to switch the set of pipes you’re using), but this was back in middle school. I’m turning 30 this year. xD;;;; OH. I learned a tiny bit of guitar in college, but it hurts my hands, so I have NOT pursued that.

Languages: English. I used to be okay with Spanish, I just had too low of a vocabulary in the topics I was interested in. I’ve also taken a TINY BIT of French and I’ve had a semester of Russian, German, Latin, Modern Greek, Chinese, and Japanese. I’ve derped with Norwegian Bokmål on Duolingo, but I stopped using Duolingo. I tested too high in its Spanish course, so I still didn’t know the darn vocab. xD;;;;;; I want to learn a little Korean and ASL. Haven’t practiced anything, though. I barely speak freakin’ English now. >8V

Favourite songs: I don’t know. I’m not sure I have any favorites, and it’d be weird to say them given that I pay more attention to the sound/feeling of a song than the words. Usually when I say I like something someone will either say they think it’s dumb or try to discuss the meaning and I’m there like, “I can’t even hear the words clearly and I don’t understand poetry and then half of what I listen to isn’t English so I don’t know what you want from me.”

Random fact: I’ve barely been drawing these past two years ‘cause of work and mental health, but I’m trying. >8I…!! I feel super guilty that people want to see more Lindrel, though, ‘cause I’ve been focusing on other characters who aren’t in the DA universe. I’m sorry. ;o;

So the My Hero Academia musical was uploaded to youtube a few days ago with subtitles and the songs are a bop... because they're high school musical songs with the lyrics changed for BNHA and I think that's beautiful. Look at this masterpiece.

Advantage to watching subbed anime: you don't need to hear everything to understand what's happening, you can just read the text on the screen. Especially useful when you're watching late at night, somebody is trying to sleep nearby, and headphones get uncomfortable when you have them on for a while.

Disadvantage to watching subbed anime: because you don't need to have the volume turned up to know what's going on, you don't always hear everything that isn't subtitled, such as music.

In related news, I just recently discovered that BNHA has a freaking AWESOME soundtrack.

We're actually making subs for the second musical!!

If you can translate by ear (as in listening to a sentence or a song in Japanese and translate it, I will put it in subs and time it) and would like to help... please contact me!!

How it would work: I would send you a clip of 2 minutes or less for a script to be written, sometimes it is just a couple of sentences repeated in a musical number. Then I will use the script to subtitle the clip in the full musical.

I am using the DVD version of the musical, so if you purchase the DVD you will be able to use these subtitles.

bakuhatsufallinlove is doing most of the translation, I am simply listening to each MHA episode and the musical at the same time and using the same subs or manga translations :'D

How to add the Ultra Stage subtitles to your video

HOW TO WATCH THE MUSICAL WITH SUBTITLES

When you insert the dvd you will see this menu. (Translations of DVD menus will also be shared with the subtitles, and they have been done by frenchlizardbrainfullofktdk here on tumblr).

Click on the first option ("Main film") to watch the musical!

Subtitles unfortunately do not work directly on the dvd files because dvds videos are divided in small files called VOBS. So the first step is transforming your dvd into a video file. This process should work for blu ray too.

There are two ways to do it, with VLC or with MakeMKV.

MAKEMKV PROCESS

You can find MakeMkv here: https://www.makemkv.com

It does confirm that it works for both dvds and blu rays, also make sure to use an antivirus because my first time downloading this last year, my pc kept giving me warnings. But this new version (now in October 2023) seems to be working without problems.

Download and install the program.

VLC PROCESS

You will need: your dvd (in our case we are using dvd 1, which is the one with the main musical), VLC (a program used to watch movies and open video files) and a dvd reader for your pc (I used HP USB External DVDRW Drive GP70N).

1) First put the dvd in your dvd reader (attached to your pc), then open VLC. Click on "Media" (top menu, first option) and select "Convert/Save". If you don't have VLC you can download it here (it's free).

2) Now, select "Disc" and check that DVD (if you have the dvd and not the blu-ray) is selected. Your disc device should automatically appear. Then click "Convert/Save" (if the saving does't start automatically you will need to click play, and you will see the blue vlc bar quickly moving, showing you the progress, it might take an hour!).

Keep in mind that this might lower your dvd quality!!

If you want to look at alternative methods (that I have tried myself so they should work) for better dvd quality - I WILL LOOK FOR MORE POSSIBLE OPTIONS.

3a) (VLC) If VLC is the program you use to watch movies/open video files, then you will have your musical starting automaticall in VLC.

Click on the menu option "Subtitles" and select "Add subtitles File"

(You can also right click on the video, and select "Subtitles" -> "Add subtitles file")

Now you can search the folder where you saved the subtitles and select the file, before clicking open.

And this is it! When you click on play, the subtitles will be automatically added and synced! If they don't start immediately, allow a couple of seconds.

If you don't have VLC you can download it here (it's free).

3b) If you use Windows Media Player, you might have to install an extension. There are also other programs, but I always recommend VLC as it is the easiest one for subtitles.
