RoC! Ashfur post starting the fire on Thunder Order territory!
start blasting Vampire Reference in Minor Key by Will Wood, bec that's this man’s theme song!
he has big ol burns all along his left side, and he has claw mark scars on his right cheek from Squirrelflight!
I really like the symbolism of him being burnt, bec he has a vendetta against the Firestar family, and he feels that he has been “burnt” by them. And now he literally is bec Squillf knocked him into the fire.
this was so hard to design, burn scars are officially the hardest to draw. Idk how I feel about the colors I used on his scars, but it was the best I could come up with lol.
Non-scared design
RoC au Ashfur summary

Do you have a list of what characters names you changed for DoFC? For example, Does the Hawk swoop and Jackdaw's cry family tree change any?
I didn't! I made one for current reference. It's all still a big WIP, and I'm shuffling as we speak. If you notice a change from last time, you're probably correct.
Making families like this is helpful for giving a brief overview to the massive amount of players Bonefall DOTC is going to have from the get-go, and make the politics easier to understand by grouping them generally by family. You can usually expect cats to 'stick' with their relatives, except when that disagreement is something noteworthy.
Related families, by mateship or family bonds, are grouped by color.
Storm Family
Shadow Family
Flower Family
Sky/Wing/Peak Family
Cry Family
Swoop Family
Heart Family
Frost Family
Misc Tribe Cats I Haven't Sorted Yet
All below the cut!
Storm Family
A humble, close-knit family back at the tribe with few members. Known best for being reliable, generalist hunters and a family history of overcoming adversity. Often have tabby patterns with large white patches.
Members: Bright Storm, Thunder Storm (Name Changes: Bright Stream fused with Storm, Thunder)
Shadow Family
Disgraced by their ancestral association with a horrible tyrant who destroyed the Great Kinships of Tiger, Leopard, and Lion, Shadow cats are ferociously proud and dedicated to redeeming their family name. For generations they’d been pure black cats just like the tyrant, until Sun Shadow's forestborn litter.
Members: Tall Shadow, Moon Shadow, Sun Shadow, Silver Shadow, White Shadow (Name Changes: Silver Stripe, White Tail. Taken from Gray Wing.)
Flower Family
Known for leadership and carrying an air of nobility, the family is prosperous and well-established back at the mountain, but the weight of it has become a burden to its surviving Sun Trail pioneer... come in many colors and patterns, but usually have a dark marking that splashes across their eyes.
Members: Shaded Flower, Rainswept Flower, Black Flower (Name Changes: Shaded Moss, Black Ear. Taken from Gray Wing.)
Sky/Wing/Peak Family
An odd case; The Sky family’s final member is Clear Sky. They were a large, righteous family famously loyal to the old Lion Kinship, with a unique fur condition that could cause ‘clouds’ to appear on their pelt as they aged.
The Wing family is directly descended from the Tribe’s founder, Half Moon, given her old name in honor of her deceased twin Jay’s Wing and notably blue-tinged in color.
The Peak family is plain in contrast, but known for being good parents.
Members: Clear Sky, Gray Wing, Quiet Wing, Fluttering Wing, Jagged Peak, Stone Peak (Name changes: Quiet Rain, Fluttering Bird, Stone Song)
Cry Family
Observant and bold, known for making good sentries and having sharp eyes for hunting. They can be loyal and committed to a fault, throwing their dedication to a cause with their whole heart. Usually black and white, with broad foreheads and a colored 'lip blotch' of the contrasting color.
Members: Jackdaw Cry, Falling Cry, Lightning Cry (Name Changes: Falling Feather, Lightning Tail though it remains a nickname)
Swoop Family
Cats of action, heroes and dramatic hunters, with a reputation for arriving in the nick of time. If they have markings they tend to be faint, with smooth, brown-colored pelts and a slight overbite.
Members: Hawk Swoop, Acorn Swoop (Name Changes: Acorn Fur)
Heart Family
A stunningly beautiful and intelligent family, often finding a subject in their kittenhoods and becoming obsessed with it their whole lives. Displays three colors; usually white, black, and orange.
Members: Turtle Heart, Dappled Heart, Pebble Heart, Sparrow Heart, Owl Heart which will become Owl Eyes later, Bumble (because she has a concept of cat marriage). (Name changes: Turtle Tail, Dappled Pelt, Sparrow Fur)
Frost Family
Resourceful and innovative with grouchy streaks, known for tool use and problem-solving. Has no particular colors or patterns, but usually has a 'flinch' of dotted spots along the spine and up the belly.
Members: Silver Frost, Shattered Frost, Sunlit Frost, Jay Frost (Name changes: Shattered Ice, Frost)
Misc Cats
These are cats I haven't assigned to a family yet, but I am planning to make Tribe-Born. It is my intention for the vast majority of the cast to be introduced by the First Battle, or AT LEAST have their parents be associated with one of the 5 Clans.
So this does not include cats like Wind, Arc, and River Ripple, who are Park cats.
Cloud Spots
Quick Water
Milkweed
Pink Eyes
Fox
Petal
Nettle
Snake
Fircone

Telly I see you talk about your kitties often and I was wondering if you have a designated kitty reference post? I wanna know more about your lil creatures c:
Tumblr media
@thebardisabird Ahh I don’t have a reference post, but I definitely want to make one now! With pictures and everything. Maybe even a sideblog only for pictures of them, since there’s no shortage of animals around here, heh (for people who don’t know it yet, my parents run an animal shelter out of our family home since I was a kid!)
But I can list them all and some basic info about them so you guys can know who’s who for now:
Cats who live in my room + the catio area:
Cobalto (blue lynx point tabby, male)
Turquesa (blue and white, female)
Royal (blue and white tabby, female)
Celeste (colorpoint and white, female)
Safira (black and white, female)
Petróleo (black, male)
⬆️ These six are siblings!
Soufflé (long haired black and white, male)
Quiche (tabby and white, male)
⬆️ Those two are brothers!
Pistache (long haired tortoiseshell, female)
Pretzel (black, female)
Napoleon AKA Leon (tabby and white, male)
Ganache (long haired black smoke and white, female)
Bombom (long haired black smoke, male)
⬆️ Those two are mother and son!
Cats who live in the kitchen area + my mom’s room:
Chaves (black, male)
Susuwatari AKA Susu (long haired black, male)
⬆️ Susu is Chaves’ father and Chaves is Pretzel’s father!
Sirena (tabby and white, female)
Nemo (tabby and white, male)
⬆️ Those two are mother and son as well!
Saga (tabby and white, male)
Frodo (tabby and white, male)
Savannah (blotched tabby, female)
Tiffany (blue, female)
Domino (calico, female)
Lollipop (colorpoint and white, female)
Francine (colorpoint, female)
⬆️ She’s Leon’s mother!
And that’s all of them! There’s the dogs as well and my two rats but if I were to list them all here this post would be a mile long.

(Writing practice for my sonas)
The Overseer was all-seeing, all-knowing. It knew of everything from the screens it had in the universes. Seeing the events and documenting them, making sure that everything was in order.
It was always covered in a cloak made of abyss black code, lined with acid green trimming. Its eyes were a bright white, typically changing shape depending on its emotions. None of its limbs had even been seen, the length of its cloak hiding all.
It was solitary.
Well, it would be, if not for-
"Overseer! I'm ba~ack!"
"Ugh.." Overseer grumbles, eyes going to half circles. "Why must you return?"
"Oh, don't be like that. You knew you missed me."
The being turns around, gazing upon its 'friend' as the other claimed.
Its friend was an anthropomorphic tabby cat, though some parts of its friend were not aligned with their species. A large fluff of white fur was around their neck, and they had splotches of white fur, like someone had tossed paint onto them. They wore a brown jacket, halfway zipped up to show the white shirt below, and it was matched with blue jeans. Overseer tried to get its friend to wear shoes, but they always refused.
"Unfortunately, I did find myself missing your company," Overseer confesses, turning back to the dozens of windows opened around it. "But why do you return? Surely you must have some other duties."
"Eh, I didn't want to barter with anyone." Blotch shrugs before walking up the stairs that formed. They walked up to Overseer and stood beside the other, gazing over its shoulder. "What're you doing?"
"Observing." it glances at them. "One universe.. has been interesting."
"Oh, the SMG4 universe?" Blotch smiles. "Yeah, it's strange. They have a lot going on."
"You seem blunt to that." Overseer tilts its head.
"I witnessed some stuff." Blotch looks at it.
".. I will not push." It shakes its head before going back to sorting through the windows, using its abilities to write down on others.
The cat watches its friend in silence for several minutes before speaking up. "How do you feel? About everything?"
"Tired, sometimes." Overseer confesses. "But.. you are here. So I find that I am okay."
Blotch nods before resting their head on its shoulder. The silence was comfortable.
"Ever figure out who the first Administrator, Virus, and Program was?"
The shout of rage shook several spaces.

The Fascinating World of Cat Coat Patterns: A Look at What Makes Each One Unique
Tumblr media
Introduction
Welcome to our exploration of the diverse and enchanting world of cat coat patterns! Cats capture our hearts and imaginations with their myriad colours and patterns. But have you ever wondered which cat coat pattern is the most popular or sought-after? In this journey, we'll delve into the beauty and uniqueness of various cat coat patterns, from the sleek solid black to the intricate tabby and everything in between.
Whether you're a cat lover, a curious reader, or considering adopting a feline friend, join us as we uncover the charm and popularity of these feline coat patterns, piecing together what makes each one special in the eyes of cat enthusiasts worldwide.
Common Cat Coat Patterns and Colors
Determining the most popular cat coat pattern involves different factors, including commonality, adoption rates, and people's preferences. Cats' various coat patterns and colours are uniquely appealing, influenced by cultural perceptions, breed characteristics, and individual preferences.
Solid Black: These cats are quite common but face a challenge in adoption due to superstitions. Nonetheless, their sleek and sophisticated look is appealing to many.
Solid White: Known for their bright, eye-catching coats and often having green or blue eyes, solid white cats are visually striking. However, many white cats, especially those with blue eyes, maybe deaf.
Tabby: is the most recognisable pattern, seen in various colors and featuring stripes or swirls. The primary tabby patterns include orange and grey, with additional sub-patterns based on stripe location.
Tortoiseshell: Featuring a mix of black, orange, and white patches, tortoiseshell cats are mostly female due to the genetics of their colouration.
Tumblr media
Calico: Similar to tortoiseshells, calico cats display a combination of black, orange, and white but with more distinct blotches and a predominantly white background.
Reverse Calico: These have the same colours as regular calicos but with reversed dark and light patches.
Blue: Cats with a blue (slate grey) coat are often found in breeds like the Russian Blue, British Shorthair, and Chartreux.
Red: A rarer colouration ranging from light orange to deep red-brown, often seen in tabby patterns rather than as a solid colour.
Smoked: These cats have fur that is white at the roots but darkens toward the tips, commonly seen in long-haired breeds like the Maine Coon.
Bi-Colour: Typically consisting of two colours, black and white, these cats often include tuxedo cats and can be found in various other colour combinations.
Popularity and Preferences
A survey by the University of California, Davis, showed that people attribute different personality traits to cats based on colour, indicating that colour can influence adoption and preference. For instance, orange cats were perceived as friendly, while tri-coloured cats were considered more intolerant.
The Discerning Cat website also lists tabbies, tortoiseshells, calicos, and colours as some of the cats' most common colour patterns, further highlighting the prevalence and likely popularity.
According to a survey by The Catnip Times, people's preferences for cat breeds (and potentially their coat patterns) may also correlate with their personality types, as defined by the Myers-Briggs framework. However, the survey noted a general preference for domestic shorthair cats, indicating a shift towards favouring mixed-breed cats over purebreds for reasons beyond just coat patterns.
Conclusion
While it's challenging to pinpoint a single most popular cat coat pattern, tabby, calico, tortoiseshell, and bicolour patterns are among the most common and widely recognised. These patterns are cherished for their aesthetic appeal and diversity in the feline world. Individual preferences for cat coat patterns may vary greatly based on personal experiences, cultural backgrounds, and even personality types, making every cat coat unique and appealing in its own right.

Kittens - a true story
My mom never let me take the outdoors cats in. If they came in by their own volition, she was fine by that, but I couldn't force them in the house. And we always left out food for one cat in particular, a pregnant cat we call Mama cat, or sometimes Calie.
Ever since she showed up on our front porch, she's had two litters per year, a spring and fall litter. last years fall litter was bad. I remember when in November the first kitten died. it was blind, and got lost, and the temperature went below freezing. He froze to death that night; I remember that being the omen of a bad winter. And slowly all but one kitten disappeared. She is a black cat with deep yellow eyes we call midnight. Or at least I call her midnight. And I thought the spring litter would be different. Last spring litter was great. Four little kittens, and all of them lived over a year. The first that came in was Hobbels. then Floof, following was Oreo, and last was Murder Mittens. All of them were really really good cats. But Oreo got outside one day and stayed. He loved the rain and always bathed in the sun. And while I was on a trip to Dollywood with the Orchestra, a dog got to him, where he hid under the shed at night, and broke his back. And while I was away they had to put him down and bury him. I wouldn't know how much pain he had to be in for the hours it took for him to be found and eventually put to rest. We buried him next to my old cat Jeff, who died from sickness 2 years prior.
I thought this litter of kittens would be different. I remember going outside to dump spoiled leftovers, my dad was walking the dog and we got to talking. When I turned around I found a small orange kitten behind me, it had deep blue eye and was REALLY fuzzy; I never saw it again after that. Murder Mittens and Mama cat both had three kittens each. out of all six kittens, four were black, one was gray, and the last was white with gray tabby blotches all over her. And for a while they did great. The kittens were all living their best lives. The indoor kittens were raised in the dog's kennel because we didn't have anywhere else to keep them until they were strong enough to move on their own. By now, they are two months old. The indoor cats are doing great. Sure, they need to be litter trained, but otherwise great. The outdoor kittens, not so much. In the past 12 hours two kittens had died. It's been raining hard. And it's been cold. My dad buried the first one last night. It took residence under the car to hide from the storm. I think anyone can know was happened next. I never saw what happened, but I heard from my dad. But lastly this morning. I woke up, brushed my teeth and was living my life as normal. When I looked out the window I saw a kitten laying in the mud still. I put on my sandals and ran out to the cat and I put my hand on it's back. It wasn't breathing, and it felt cold. so so cold. As I write this I have buried the kitten. I tried to get the last kitten indoors, but it won't go in. It's too scared of me. I fear that soon too, he shall die. I hope not, I but I still fear. My mom won't let me take it in. But I will do what I can to help it. The rain is light now. And I wish him the best.
I wish I could've done more sooner. I am so sorry. May they all rest in peace.

New Ashfur design! It was bothering me that I gave him stripes instead of spots in my old design, plus I always imagined him having supper spikey long cheek fur like this. I imagine that before he went full evil his fur was less spikey and laid more normally.
He’s a main villain in RoC so I also wanted to update his design bec of that! I'm also working on a different version of this design for RoC Ash post fire bec he gets some gnarly burn scars from that.. (im having so much trouble coming up with a good design for that tho T-T)
I've decided that instead putting RoC character ideas/ summaries under my character designs, I'm going to post them separately! and link the summary post to my designs once they are posted!
Roc Ashfur Summary post !

Finally got my OC's reference sheet done! Took a while, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. My handwriting is awful, so I'll write everything below the image.
Tumblr media
Resident of The Place of No Stars - Darkfrost
Black tabby tom with deep grey belly fur and vitiligo. Former ShadowClan warrior-turned-medicine cat.
Notable markings - Diamond-shaped markings on chest and forehead. White tail-tip, ear tufts, front left paw, and blotch on hind leg. Stripes only visible in direct sunlight.
Dark Forest characteristics - Right eye is gouged out, and the skull is exposed. His pupils take on the color of his irises when he was alive, an ice-blue. His sclera take on a deep blue. The wound that killed him is the icicle embedded in his chest, and it still oozes blood.
Other notes - He uses holly leaves and berries as accessories, if he's able to find them.

My Pokémon Part Two
Aquakit, Sealine and Reserval, a Water-type cat Pokémon line.
The first stage is Aquakit (‘aqua’/‘aquatic’ and ‘kitten’), the Fishing Pokémon. It’s a medium blue tabby cat with light blue and white stripes, creating a coat that resembles a still image of waves rolling up to the shore as seen from above. A protruding tuft of white fluff on the top of its head is shaped like the foam crest of a wave. It has amber eyes and webbed paws. Its tail ends tapering to a point at half the length of a usual cat tail; but enveloping and extending beyond it is a long, prehensile, undulating tail of water that thickens toward the tip. Aquakit can control any body of water the liquid tail connects to. Though its raw power is limited, so the more water there is, the less of it it can move, or its power its spread thin and the movements become sloppy. Wild Aquakit lives on and swimming just offshore of beaches. It has an incredible sense of smell and uses its tail to catch fish, grabbing them and pulling them back to shore where it eats without spilling blood that would attract rivals. It can even add more force to waves to wash several fish up onto the beach. While it eats, its tail lashes fiercely behind it to defend its meal from bird Pokémon. These successful hunting strategies do not stop it begging humans for food like it hasn’t eaten a day in its life. Fishers commonly employ it. It’ll happily agree to the food, shelter and care provided by an owner, but maintain an independent spirit.
There are two divergent second stages: Sealine, the Immersed Pokémon, and Reserval, the Landlocked Pokémon. Both have amber eyes with round pupils. Sealine (‘sea’ and ‘feline’, also sounds close to ‘sea lion’) evolves when Aquakit reaches level 25 in the sea or on a beach. In the wild, this form is nomadic and solitary. It spends most of its life travelling the ocean and only leaves to mate and raise its children to self-sufficiency. It’s about the size of a leopard with very graceful, streamlined proportions suited to swimming frequently and for long periods of time. It has a sleek coat similar to a clouded leopard’s, rippling light blue blotches on a mostly obscured white background mimicking the pattern of light on the surface of water. Its paws are bigger relative to its body with white socks and more pronounced webbing. The white fluff has transitioned to a buoyant mane around its upper neck, helping to keep the head above water when Sealine is tired or asleep. When it does dive underwater, this mane traps air that can be breathed in. Notably, Sealine’s biological tail has grown to be the ordinary length and strong and supple to better swim with. It no longer needs a water appendage because it can telekinetically manipulate any water in its vicinity with much greater power and precision. It is wary and distrustful of humans, chance sightings rare.
Reserval (‘reserve’/reservoir’ and ‘serval’, also ‘reversal’ with just the S and T swapped much like how it’s the inverse of Sealine) evolves on any dry ground further from the ocean than the beach, as the name implies. This means it can’t rely on external water like Sealine and has lost the ability to control it. Instead it specializes in using water appendages. It doesn’t need to be an efficient swimmer but rather walks and climbs, so its build is larger and stockier. It’s white with medium blue tiger stripes, only they bend at random points as if refracted by water. The lower legs are plain beige like wet sand or earth is stuck to them. Aquakit’s crest persists in this form turned blue, thinner, longer and continuing down the back of its neck. Tufts of the same blue fluff are on the outside of its ears. Its biological tail is now a mere stub, while its water tail doubles in size. It additionally has sheaths of water covering its legs down to the ankles that can be extended to contain the non-webbed feet too, allowing Reserval to move faster and more creatively and hit harder with sharp, intense water strikes. In nature, Sealine is preferred and Reserval less common and born out of necessity in undesirable circumstances; but since people of course mostly live on land, the latter is the form the majority of tame Aquakits evolve into. It is therefore bolder and more sociable toward humans.

hi! i've been following your blog for a bit now and i love your posts about cat genetics. i was wondering if you could help me figure out the colors/patterns of these two pretty girlies.
for penny i was wondering if she could possibly be a diluted bengal since her spotted tabby markings look a bit rosetted.
for trix im not sure if she's a) a chocolate silver classic tabby/torbie or b) a fawn classic torbie. im leaning towards chocolate.
also here are the links to their profiles in case any of your followers are interested:

Penny is a beautiful red-spotted tabby with white, like this guy below!
Tumblr media
from the photo you've sent, I'm not seeing anything that would indicate Bengal. I do see where you got confused because there are spot/stripes that are adjacent to each other in a way that could look connected, but that’s just how one copy of the spotted tabby gene + one copy of the mackerel tabby gene presents! rosettes have a dark outer outline and a light inner filling that is different from a cat’s ‘background’ colour
Tumblr media
now onto Trix! fawn is a very rare colour, so unless the kitten is a purebred from a colour-oriented breed like Oriental Shorthairs, I wouldn’t consider that.
I don’t think she’s a chocolate silver torbie (chocolate + silver/inhibitor gene + tortoishell + tabby), because those tend to look darker and more.....well, chocolate!
Tumblr media
she could be a blue silver torbie (dilute of black + silver/inhibitor gene + tortoishell + classic tabby), but her face looks quite light compared to the blue silver torbie below. it may just be the lighting in the photos, but none of the grey areas look particularly dark.
Tumblr media
she’s pretty ambiguous, but I’m thinking lilac silver torbie? (dilute of chocolate + silver/inhibitor gene + tortoiseshell + classic tabby).
I wasn't actually able to find an example of this colouration online, but I did find a lilac silver tabby! if you pretend it has random blotches of cream areas, it does match up to Trix fairly well.
Tumblr media
so you were very close with your chocolate silver torbie guess, just missing the dilution!
