I've seen people say that the new AI art has lost the charm that its early first-gen incarnations had...
That the "seeing the pure madness of the machine" had gone. But to that I say:

The Secret Origin of Wally ManMoth
Scans from TyrannoMax #26
Cocytus was one of the better-performing comic companies outside the big 2 in the 1970s before the whole company was bought out by Buzby-Spurlock Animation in the early 80s.
TyrannoMax was its biggest title, so almost everyone in the character stable teamed up with the Dinoids eventually.
Process under the fold.
TyrannMax is created via use of Dall-E 3 and Midjourney as pencilers, and me doing essentially everything else (writing, editing, inking, lettering, layout, etc.) DE is on most of the character art, MJ on backgrounds and select characters.
Each panel utilizes anywhere from one gen/prompt (for a handful of very simple head-shots) to around 20 for stuff like the DinoHydra action shot or the hero/villain showcase panels.
Once I know what I want for a page I lay out the rough dialog and panels, then start generating pics. Basic prompt format and a few examples:
, , , , comic panel by 1968, in the style of 1968
A portly 50 year old man, resembles Alan Hale Jr, jolly smile, wearing a tweed jacket, slacks, sandals, a fedora, sweatervest and a loosened ascot, full body character design, comic panel by Jack Kirby and Alex Toth 1968, in the style of 1968 Marvel comics
a mad scientist mid-transformation into a green anthro-tyrannosaurus, asymmetrical transformation, boils and growths, screaming/roaring, bald, portly, with round glasses. wearing a tattered lab coat, vest, slacks, tie. Comic panel by jack kirby and alex toth, 1968, in the style of vintage horror comics
Then I take the pics into PS, arrange and composite them, and then remove all the color. I don't tend to prompt for my final colors on characters and instead choose light tones I can easily extract. Why not just do B&W prompts? Style impact.
Then I start to re-ink over errors and details that don't match the mood I want, match line thicknesses over various elements, etc. Through this process I adjust dialog placement and panel arrangements, and do generally the things and editor and letterer would be up to.
Once I have the inks, flat colors, and the text on various layers, I do the weathering and compositing to simulate scans of a 1970s comic book. This is also where the deliberate flaws in coloring and print alignment are added for authenticity.

I was able to use the Bing Image Generator to create a series of AI scenes that illustrate a wrestling story. Here we have an aging Hollywood star who believes he can remain famous by transitioning to a career in pro wrestling. After all, it's all fake anyway and his fans will go wild over his costume: white trunks with tall cowboy boots.
He soon learns that his sleazy manager added a clause in his contract requiring him to take on a veteran Heel who reigns supreme in the ring and wants to show this pretty-boy that the sport isn't "fake."
It doesn't end well for the movie star as the trained fighter works him over without mercy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ever since I used to sketch pro wrestling drawings in my Science notebook while bored in school (hoping none of my classmates would peek over my shoulder and bust me as a gay pervert), I've always wanted to create wrestling-themed comic strips. I could indulge my fantasies, depict my favorite holds, cause handsome actors and other famous studs to suffer in the ring. (You should've seen what happened to our buff young assistant football coach in my drawings when I fantasized him in Tag Team action against the Road Warriors!)
Tumblr media
Anyway, I'm glad I've lived long enough to witness the birth of AI because now it's possible to quickly generate in under a minute the kinds of drawings that would've taken me hours to produce. All for free. And my limited artistic skills could never achieve this quality of lighting, shading, skin tone, facial expressions, and musculature.
Plus, the AI machine seems to have a homo-erotic kink (or at least grasps the importance of sex appeal in pro wrestling imagery), because the drawings it spits out often surprise me with a very queer sexual overtone.

The Secret Origin of Mrs. Nautilus / "If The Goo's Alight, It's Not Alright!"
Originally printed in TyrannoMax #25, October 1977.
Updated from this, details under the fold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I already have mostly-unmodded versions of the images on the first version, but even those involved minor color fixes and cleanup of major flaws.
For a full comic page, though, I wanted passable consistency. The original colors had to be removed and converted into "inks", those inks then modified to keep clothing, hair length, and other features relatively consistent, areas outside the frame have to be drawn in, the image recolored, and then given aging and halftoning.
Each pic used a different prompt around the basic format of:
Secretary with a bob-haircut, redhead, green blouse and pearls,(action),(emotion descriptors), comic panel by Jack Kirby and Alex Toth, 1968, in the style of 60s Marvel
a secretary with lavender skin, tentacles for hair, (action),(emotion descriptors) comic panel by jack kirby and alex toth, 1968, in the style of 60s marvel

I read somewhere that the Microsoft Bing search engine now provides a free image generator. It uses Artificial Intelligence to create an image of whatever you ask it to draw. It's available at: https://www.bing.com/images/create.
So I decided to try generating some pro wrestling images to test out the new technology and see how homo-erotic it was willing to go. I started out simply with "two pro wrestlers standing in a wrestling ring" and within a minute, it generated four such images. The best of the bunch is posted above -- two remarkably swole hotties with powerful physiques and tall white boots that I didn't even ask for!
Now I want to see more! So I tried "pro wrestler holding his anguished opponent in a body scissor hold." The three resulting images were very enticing and sexy, but the AI machine obviously does not know what a Body Scissor is...

So I'm impressed with the output even if these are not technically Body Scissors! The lighting and coloring are intense and severe. The guys are super attractive and handsome -- not cartoonish fat brutes. Their arms are swole and veiny too, which I like. Their bodies are placed in various sexually-suggestive positions with the attacker mounting his victim.
And including the adjective "anguished" in my request resulted in these incredible Orgasm Faces, not only on the victim but also the attacker. Especially in the final image above, the dude on top definitely looks like he's in the process of busting one out.
So I just had to ask the bot to show me a Sleeper Hold. But this one was a bridge too far for some reason. The AI machine was intelligent enough to realize that this was porn for me and it refused to draw me a Sleeper:
Tumblr media
Oh well, there are limits to the utility of this new technology if you're hoping to use it for pornographic purposes. But I suspect the day is coming when AI will generate animations, long videos, even entire movies based on a written script -- I can't wait! It will be cheaper and faster to have the Video Generator create you a custom wrestling match with all your favorite moves rather than paying actors/models to perform it for you. (Someone needs to teach the Bot what a Scissor is.)
Meanwhile, I'm going to keep playing around with the Bing Image Generator -- maybe ask it for some Tag Team images which I love.
