**"Rivers of Reflection: A Sunday Devotional"**

In the quiet embrace of a flowing stream, we find solace and wisdom echoing through the prophet Jeremiah's words:

> "Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by the water, sending out its roots by the stream."

As you sit beside this tranquil stream, let the scriptures from the past week guide your reflections:

> "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." - Luke 6:36

> "Come now, let us argue it out, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow." - Isaiah 1:18

> "The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Mark 10:45

> "By the Lord, test the mind and search the heart." - Jeremiah 17:10

Recovery echoes the transformative promise that, through the Lord's grace, the scarlet sins of our past can be washed white as snow.

The Psalm 69 is the prayer of a righteous man persecuted by his enemies, a prayer addressed to God who in his infinite perseverance and wisdom provides those who love him with prosperity and wellness. Very probably the person who dedicates his song to God is Nehemiah, an official of Jewish origin appointed by the persian King Artaxerxes for the reconstruction of the city of Jerusalem, after the deportation and captivity of the jewish people in Babylon, this psalm was surely written during the reconstruction of the second temple. In a world where sin and error prevail, it is logical that those who fear God and practice mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) with their neighbor suffer oppression; righteousness ("Do to no one what you yourself hate" Tobit 4:15) and sin are paths that are completely opposed to each other. Nehemiah had many enemies, but above all things he put his trust in God, and so the Psalm tells us how this righteous man invoked the help of the Lord: "Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother's children" Psalm 69:6-8 But in front of the difficulties the gift of hope is never lost, that is why the Psalmist continued the request for the love and mercy of God in his song: "Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes" Psalm 69:16-18. Because God made a promise to the patriarch Abraham, reminds to us the Psalm; God does not forget mankind, and his love does not take long to manifest himself to his people: "For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there" Psalm 69:35-36.
