i genuinely think the only thing that compares to the ache beyond evil expresses is magnolia. magnolia is obviously a very different kind of work and it's high melodrama about parents and the children they're awful to and it's about love!!!!! beyond evil is more of a melodrama than it is a traditional dead girls crime thriller (though it occasionally flounders just like one)
