#beating mannimarcos ass up

Witnessing mannimarco fighting with the oblivion version of himself had to be the funniest thing that came out of tonight’s game, it was essentially the dm voicing two versions of the same character, the good manni who sounds like Tim curry, and the other with the oblivion elf voice.
The funniest part for me though was him blatantly dropping everything to do with our current objective after finding out there was an evil variant of himself on the loose like:
———
Mannimarco: hold on a minute, what year is this in the oblivion crisis?
Vivec: what?
Mannimarco: I mean, what are we talking here has the emperor just been murdered, have the gates only just started popping up, has Martin septum been located yet somebody fill me in-
Lucien: the emperor was murdered only a few days ago, a contract the brotherhood are sour they didn’t get to handle.
Vivec: regardless, that’s not important to us at the moment, well continue forth to the- wait where are you going?!
Mannimarco: *walking off* crisis hasn’t broken out yet and the time wound won’t open for another few days! Time to beat my own ass!!

🌾 for Lubomir and 🌲for Ari.
lmao u gonna make me write
Evil Lubomir...
You know, it's really hard for me to even imagine an evil Lubomir. (And I've tried, lol.) Oh, I've thought of the basic bloodthirsty and chaotic werewolf he could be, (he tries to limit his beastform runs to the wild and elk, but if a stray bandit tries him, he doesn't worry too much about it). But that always felt kind of... not really evil. It would just be a mix of him and Ariana at that point.
No, a truly evil Lubomir would be like a shitty frat boy. He would constantly lie and manipulate and gaslight. He would guilt people into sleeping with him. And if that didn't work, he would try to ruin their lives. Think of if the meanest mean girl and the shittiest, business major frat boy had an even shittier baby. That would be Evil!Lubomir. He would feel entitled to everyone and everything because he had a hard(ish) upbringing, and would absolutely refuse to work on himself.
I don't... lol, I don't like Evil!Lubomir.
I like the idea of a campy evil version of him, though. Like maybe an AU where his magicka reserves are a bit deeper and Vendhal teaches him a bunch of necromancy in the hopes of becoming the next Mannimarco. Or Lubomir becomes a vampire, and like... dramatically goth with it. Like wayyy too obsessed with maintaining a "look" to go with it.
In no universe do I see him aligning himself with the Thalmor though. (Spoiler: His dad worked/works with them.)
The Kindest Thing Ariana Has Ever Done For Someone...
I don't know if I can really say it's purely kind, considering how much fear was involved, and understandably selfish fear in the beginning.
It actually took Ariana a long time to leave Honorhall. She says she left at sixteen, since that seemed to be the standard age the orphans were kicked out. But she was actually seventeen, and in all honestly, she could have gotten away with leaving when she was maybe fourteen. No one would have made her go back at that age because she was more than capable of working/fending for herself.
Twelve was the approximate age Ariana started physically fighting Grelod back. It took Grelod no time to realize that Ariana could actually injure her at that point, and that the threat of a beating was no longer enough to control her. So she started to threaten to beat/punish the younger orphans. Naturally, the other kids did not take kindly to the thought of the headmistress's "favorite" ward being the reason they got beat, so they all quickly got on her ass about it. Ariana quickly found herself with absolutely no friends. Not only no friends, but it seemed like the rest of the children straight up hated her.
But this worked. Grelod threatening the others with punishment whenever Ariana displeased her/wouldn't immediately bend to her will worked. And Ariana felt more bound to her than ever. So she would tense and straightened whenever Grelod came near, ready to hear the tiniest mention of a chore, making sure she wasn't in a "lazy" looking position. Making sure Grelod didn't think she was having the tiniest amount of "fun".
It didn't take long for Grelod to start mentioning things that suggested Ariana's permanency at the orphanage. "I'm getting up in age, you know..." It became clear that Grelod had every intention of Ariana becoming her assistant, (this was before she hired Constance), and she would essentially be her little numb and broken slave.
Now, this kind of guilting that Grelod would periodically do no longer worked on Ariana, but she had already been conditioned to think that any suffering the other orphans received was her fault. So leaving, which would go against the headmistress's will, seemed a very dangerous thing to do.
The kindest thing she did for another* was take the brunt of the abuse (she thought), to spare the younger ones from it, (she THOUGHT). The kindest thing she did for herself was finally leave.
*YET
The Kindest Thing Someone Has Ever Done For Her...
There have been many people who have done very kind things for her, but usually she had done something for them first, even if it was just something small. Except Marcurio shortly after they first met.
She hung around Riften for a day or two after storming out of Honorhall. She was unwilling to go back, despite her mind screaming at her to do so. She hadn't a septim to her name, and her only possessions were like two raggedy books and her raggedy little wool blanket in a small knapsack. She didn't even have proper shoes, because Grelod refused to give her a pair to replace her old, worn (to the point of being unbearable) ones until she "earned" it. She wore footwraps and a plain work dress.
Eventually she made her way to The Bee and Barb, figuring she would ask for work. She was willing to do anything from killing rats and skeevers to scrubbing piss buckets. Keerava was very kind about declining, but the rejection still made Ariana cry. Ariana breaking down and crying embarrassed her, sure, but it also filled her with IMMENSE anxiety. Crying in front of an adult was a dangerous thing after all.
After a moment of being frozen on a barstool, she forced her tears to dry (a nifty little survival skill she had to learn). She asked Keerava if she knew if anyone else in the city was hiring.
I'm not going into that whole conversation, but Talen-Jei basically ended up advising her to leave the city altogether, (and Keerava agreed), because in Riften, it was way too easy for someone young and desperate like her to get mixed up with the wrong people. This felt like, objectively, the best course of action, but Ariana had no clue how to start. Talen-Jei pointed her to Marcurio sitting on a bench by the entrance if she needed help.
Marcurio was firm on his price. 500g, not a septim less. "Sorry," he plainly said with a shrug.
Ariana wanted to cry again, she wanted to beg and plead and... guilt him. (Wonder where she learned that, lmao.) But she held it in for a little while longer, out of pride if nothing else.
She stepped out into the marketplace, and eventually found a merchant willing to buy her books. (The wool blanket, everyone seemed to agree, was completely worthless.) Despite the very worn condition, she managed to get a whopping 45g for one of them, as it turned out to be a first edition and uncommon.
She was 50 septims richer, and though that was only a tenth of Marcurio's price, it was better than nothing. She sat on a bench outside the tavern for a while, trying to think of something to do for the rest. She couldn't seem to come up with something she was comfortable with and was safe from being possibly murdered or arrested.
She went back into the tavern and tried to see if Marcurio would take 50 now, and the rest, plus maybe even more, whenever she got to her destination. (While outside, she decided on Winterhold on a whim. She heard apprentices at the college got a bed and meals, and she had always been interested in magic.)
As soon as Marcurio folded his arms and started to shake his head, she began sobbing. She was sure (or perhaps just overly hopeful) it would work. For whatever reason, this made Marcurio panic, and he started shushing her and waving his hands trying to get her to calm down. She couldn't stop just yet and he said, "Damn it, stop that!" Which was the wrooooong thing to say, because Ariana curled up into a little, but very conspicuous, ball on the wooden floor in front of his bench and sobbed harder. She was so overwhelmed with all of this, and she was considering just returning to Honorhall, if Grelod would still have her. At least it was familiar and she would be able to eat sometimes. She didn't know anything about anything, and she was beginning to understand that.
Marcurio continued to panic, though Ariana's face was too buried in her knees to see, and it was starting to gain... attention. He leaned down next to her head and eventually whispered, "FINE! FINE! I'll take you there just PLEASE STOP CRYING." It took a moment to register his words, but surprise and relief ended up flooding through her, and her tears slowed.
"Really?!" She said a little too loudly, only to be met with Marcurio shushing her once more, glancing about to the other patrons.
"Yes! We can leave immediately!" He projected his voice awkwardly. "Thank you for the 500 septims, and I'm terribly sorry about your sister!"
Outside of the gates, he took her by the elbow and said, "Don't ever let anyone know I did this. Gods... if people found out, they'd all be asking me for probono work or discounts. Can't give an inch in Riften... And I still expect the full 500 whenever we get there, I don't care how you get it."
"Why did you decide to help me?" Ariana eventually asked, a day or two later.
He merely shrugged and said, "You remind me too much of my little sister. She turns fourteen soon. She and our parents live in the Imperial City. It's been years..."
Ariana and Marcurio's trip to Winterhold ended up being filled with all sorts of mishaps and setbacks. They bonded over their journey, and though he did eventually collect the 500g that was promised, he gave her a few months to get it.
Damn, I went off the tracks there, where was I...? Ah, yes...
The Worst Thing She Did to Another Person...
You know, apart from straight up murder, uhh...
This is a mild fic spoiler, so I'll keep it vague. She convinced a Talos... stan... to leave a relatively safe Hold with a very convincing tale about a new underground resistance that needed their own priest, or someone like it. She buttered him up with lots of praise and admiration, and a hint of desperation, as if his knowledge, his word, was greatly needed.
And then she delivered him straight to a Thalmor Justiciar in an Empire-controlled Hold where the Jarl would be more willing to permit an arrest. All because... she thought it would be fun. (And he annoyed her sooooo baaaaad.)

Friend was talking about how it was disappointing that the Empire didn’t have a problem with necromancy in Morrowind and faced backlash from Dunmer and yet by the time of Oblivion it was banned in the Mages Guild and caused a schism.  I share their disappointment, which stems from the idea that Necromancy could be seen as a neutral form of magic that often gets a bad rep otherwise, but there’s also that it makes me think of all the missed potential of Oblivion’s Mages Guild questline.
Like tbh Hannibal Necrophobe Traven deciding that Necromancy Bad and alienating half of the council and a large portion of the guild could have gone many, MANY more interesting places than Necromancy Bad Go Beat Up Mannymarkers.
We could have seen how necromancy--which was canonically accepted and legal in the Empire to the point where corpses were provided for practitioners in the guild to study--was perceived and how it flourished in the guild after Galerion’s death.  We have records of people using bodies of the deceased for farmwork, presumably with consent given that it was a whole village doing this.  I’m curious as to what other ways the school was used outside of Evil Wizard Conqueror stuff we usually see.
Then there’s all the mages lame-ass Traven put out of the guild.  Sure, a lot of them flocked to Mannimarco’s side, but I imagine not everyone was ready to throw in their lot with someone who is unambiguously evil.  There have only been a handful of “good” necromancers in the series, but they do exist.  Considering the PC was gonna end up as the Archmage at the end, it would have been neat to have some of those necromancers be part of the questline and probably lead you to deciding whether or not to reinstate the study of Necromancy in the guild.  (The damage has already been done, so it would still lead to the founding of the Synod and College of Whispers after the guild disbands.)
Anyways, this just kinda leads me to the same conclusion that the series has a LOT of wasted potential and even though Oblivion is my favorite in the series and has better questlines as a whole, it’s still vanilla as hell and is the least lore-compliant in the franchise lmao

Cresseida al-Bergama
im starting to make oc posts so i can make an official oc page starting with cresseida using this template by tumblr user jessaryss with some tweaks here and there. They said anyone can use it and personalize it for themselves so if y’all want to use this feel free to!
BASICS
Name: Cresseida al-Bergama
Nicknames: She doesn’t like to go by any nicknames, just Cresseida, though close friends can call her Cress. Do grand titles count as nicknames? If so then Vestige, Champion, etc. etc.
Race: Redguard, demiprince of Clavicus Vile, though it’s lowkey, she’s human-passing
Age: 24 in the base game, 28 in Summerset, 30 right now (2020)
Pronouns: She/Her
Eyes: Dull gray without her soul, silver with her soul back
Hair: Curly and poofy, dark reddish brown
Skin: Brown with a lot of random freckles and moles
Height: 5′2 (tiny baby uwu)
General Physique: Very muscular especially arms and thighs and back. i wouldn’t say she’s skinny more sculpted really
Tattoos, War paints, Scars?: has a large gray scar right in the middle of her chest. the magic on mannimarco’s dagger was so corrupted it left a deep mark on her new body in addition to the old one, as if it was some dark and traumatic memory imprinted on her skin. she also has a dark daedric mark on her back that reveals her daedric background but her mom lied and told her it was just a birthmark lmao
About
Werewolf/Vampire?: none
Occupation: savior of tamriel
Guild Associations: mages guild, undaunted enclave, psijic order
Favored Weapon Class/Type: her whole life cresseida was trained in the art of sword and shield but as she started to not fear her magic and train and hone it she switched to a lightning staff. now she uses it exclusively but she still trains with the sword and has also trained to fight nonmagically with her staff
Favored School of Magic/Type: Dark magic, conjuration, destruction, specifically storm and lightning. she has persuasion abilities from clavicus vile: people tend to immediately trust her, feel calmer in her presence. she’s good at bargaining and persuading people to make a choice over the other. also like vile she has her own daedric companion, her clannifear
Heavy/Light/Medium Armor? Clothes?: despite being a mage ingame with light armor in reality she prefers heavy armor, though she slowly starts to wear some light armor as she trusts people more and gets less closed off
Place of Birth: Bergama
Place Where they were Raised: with a group of nomads led by her aunt and mother who travelled all over Hammerfell in caravans
Current Location: her current home is in Wayrest though she is getting slowly used to her plane of oblivion (ingame its the psijic manor on artaeum)
Education/Place of Study: was mostly educated by her mother and books, then after her family was killed she was raised by throne keeper  Farvad at Tu’whacca’s temple then trained for a bit with the sword masters at Leki’s Blade
Personal
Patron Deity (if any): Meridia, Sheogorath, Clavicus Vile (not really a patron but more of just a pain in the ass cause he’s her father)
Political Alliance (if any): Daggerfall Covenant
Strongest Skills: beating up daedric princes, fighting, magic
Strengths: very protective, will go to hell and back for the people she loves. kind despite her initial reluctance to help out, she’s not one to turn people away who need help. persuasive and she easily wins people over through her actions. levelheaded most of the time.
Weaknesses: prone to angry outbursts. sometimes she can lose control of her storms. reckless, she thinks she can’t be killed (again) and it causes her to rush headfirst into danger. always insists on handling things on her own. thinks too black and white, she is always learning how it’s not always this or that
Spouses? Flings? Lovers?: cresseida was never interested in love as she was too hellbent on getting revenge on those who killed her home and family, and later on stopping molag bal and mannimarco, and most of her life she refused to open up to anyone, secretly afraid of them getting taken from her. darien was one of her first friends, and the way she came to care so much about him caught her by surprise
Most difficult quest they’ve been on: taking on nocturnal after watching darien die right in front of her
Jail Time: none she’s a good noodle (unless you count coldharbour...?)
Largest Bounty Held: none. crime is wrong and she’ll kill you if she sees you doing it
How do they get gold?: selling random loot off her dead enemies and doing things for people
Are werebeings and vampires Vile Creatures or Simply Misunderstood?: she used to loath vampires until she met Verandis and was proved how such creatures can choose to do good and be trusted. she has yet to meet a good werewolf though
Goals in Life: protect tamriel and its inhabitants *thumbs up*
Deepest Regret: not trying hard enough to hunt down her family’s killers (despite being like 12 at the time lol), not trying hard enough to look for anyone who survived like her cousin Rafiyah who turned out to have been alive this whole time, not telling Darien how she felt sooner
Greatest Hope: despite all the hell she has gone through, looking back, so much good has happened. she has traveled to so many beautiful and astonishing places and met so many wonderful people that would not have happened had she stayed in Hammerfell
Flaws: oh i accidentally put these under weaknesses lol oh well they’re kinda similar
Fears: losing. letting evil win. although she’s super confident in her abilities there is always that one shred of doubt that she won’t win this time. also she’s afraid of losing the friends she’s made, especially her cousin
What makes them happy: being with Rafiyah, petting her clannfear, her cooked food, seeing a daedric prince lose miserably at her hands, running into her old friends in new places unexpectedly
Hobbies: Despite her cold outwards appearance and her reputation as a powerful hero, cresseida loves to cook and sew. her mother was a seamstress and cress learned a lot from her
Favorite Locations: daggerfall, bergama, all of summerset, ARTAEUM
Eating Habits: the standard three meals a day, though she tends to forget to eat when she’s busy on quests. she does bring a lot of snacks tho for when she’s on the road or in a plane of oblivion, ya know, the usual
Can they cook?: Yes and she’s amazing at it. too bad almost no one knows...
Favorite Food: idk ive never thought about that. most likely something that reminds her of eating around the campfires with the other caravaneers when she was young
Favorite Drink: Tea. She hates alcohol btw
First thing they do at a tavern?: Get a room so she can unpack and wind down in private
Sleeping habits: On her side, back towards the wall if there is one, sword/staff close by. her clannfear sleeps at her feet on alert the whole time
Cities or the Wilds?: cities. through her many adventures cresseida has developed a fondness for the people she has reluctantly sworn to protect, and seeing civilians stumble about their lives reminds her of what she has to do.
Pet Peeves: people who waste her time, liars, cowards, people who talk a lot and very loudly
Describe their bedroom or home: pretty bare, she has always been a minimalist who packs lightly cause she never stays in one place
Opinions on daedra: very easy to hate them once coldharbour happened, though after she found out she was a demiprince while she was in the alik’r it really turned her world upside down.
