For World Book Day, here's a throwback to a year & a half ago, and a building that could just as well have come out of a novel, which is used as a public library, and located in a city that is itself the setting of one of the English language's greatest classics. Designed in the Tudor Revival style by A H Campbell and opening 2 years later, the building was primarily funded by Dr James George Beaney, an ordinary man of Canterbury birth who studied medicine before spending a prosperous professional life in Australia. On his death, he left money to the city of Canterbury for an institute to be established to provide amenities for the working class of the city, with the city council choosing to move the existing public museum and library into the new building from the start. Now Grade II listed, it was refurbished in 2009 as part of a wider project to transform the city centre into the vibrant cultural hub that it is today, with the quirky architecture of the Beaney building at once blending with the historic character of the street, while dropping a hint of modernity that almost has the colourful street decoration surrounding it seem a little less out of place than might be expected of a building of older, more formal design. To hell with my deathfamily refsheet. XD

1. "I want to make Tallulah Art"

=> controversy hits, and we all unanimously agree to drop the design. Ok. Time to work, design Phil, design Cayanne (wanted to do that anyway), design Tallulah. This is fine I do that all the time, I'm good.

2. "I just create a new design. We are taking Cayannes skull as a design choice, gonna do that with tallulah too, mushroom hat we love it, that's gonna be cute."

=> Tallulah shows up in Valentines day outfit. The flowers and color are just too adorable. I will use them! Redesigning I go...

3. "Good, I use the flowers and the colors to add them to her design. I STRUGGLE to get the outfit and make the colors look cute. Everything is fine."

=> Tallulah has now a completely new color sceam and hat design. I love the colors, I love her hat being striped, her hair matches beautifully to the beaney.

IM REDESIGNING AGAIN. TALLULAH I LOVE YOU.

My takeaways from the new art :

Fearne : Incredible, the bodice/armor looks wicked and I love it. The face has something a bit weird but I couldn't say what, and I'll get used to it anyway.

Chetney : Where is the beaney, is it safe, is it alright ? His pose looks like he is about to drop some bars, it's hilarious.

Wolf!Chetney : FINALLY ! Full wolf chetney art. Perfect.

Deanna : When Aabria said pixar mom, she meant Pixar Mom

FCG : They were already perfect, but Hannah succeeded, he is even more perfect. The gold sheen, the silver incrusted, the lower ponytail, the beautiful blue coat, THE SAPPHIRE WITH SYMBOL OF THE CHANGEBRINGER ON IT ! Perfect boy.

Südengland 2023 - Tag 7

Ladies and Gentlemen!    

Heute verlassen wir Canterbury und wir machen uns auf den Weg nach Windsor.

Canterbury hat uns ausnehmend gut gefallen und wir können sowohl die Stadt, als auch unsere Unterkunft guten Gewissens weiter empfehlen.

Eine Bleibe innerhalb des historischen Stadtkerns zu finden, die über einen eigenen Parkplatz für die Gäste verfügt, hat Seltenheitswert.

Wir konnten unser Auto stehen lassen und alle relevanten Sehenswürdigkeiten bequem fußläufig erreichen.

Unser Appartement verfügte über 2 Schlafzimmer. Das Vordere liegt zur sehr belebten Hauptstraße und hat ein Bad ensuite. Das Bad ist allerdings sehr eng und super schmal.

Das zweite Schlafzimmer liegt nach hinten zum Privatparkplatz und ist entsprechend ruhig, da hier ausschließlich Anwohner parken dürfen. Das Bad ist durch den kleinen Wirtschaftsraum (mit Waschmaschine, Wäschetrockner, Wäscheständer, Bügelbrett usw.) getrennt.

Die Parkplatzsituation wird noch durch ein supermodernes Pollersystem verschäft, der sich als Ring um die Altstadt zieht und gegen den Verkehr abriegelt.

Die Poller kommen jeden Vormittag automatisch aus dem Boden gefahren und gewähren nur bestimmten Autofahrern, darunter Anwohnern und Händlern, Zufahrt.

Die Poller wurden an 20 Stellen im gesamten Stadtzentrum installiert, um Angriffe „feindlicher Fahrzeuge“ zu verhindern. Damit sind natürlich diese bekloppten Amokfahrer gemeint, die sich immer wieder belebte Innenstädte aussuchen, um möglichst viele Opfer zu erwischen.

Nur bestimmte Gruppen – darunter Anwohner, Händler und Rettungskräfte – haben rund um die Uhr Zugang zum Stadtzentrum. Andere, wie Zustellfahrer und Postangestellte, dürfen die Poller nur nach 16:00 und vor 10:30 Uhr passieren.

Ganz clevere Zeitgenossen versuchen gerne einmal das Hochfahren der Poller zu verhindern indem sie ihr Fahrzeug darüber stellen. Das klappt aber nur so mittelmäßig ...

Gerne empfehlen wir auch unsere Stadtführerin, Kirsten, weiter. Für gerade einmal 30 Pfund, hatten wir hier ein unschlagbares Preis/Leistungsverhältnis.

Aber auch ein Spaziergang in Eigenregie durch die bezaubernden Straßen mit ihren Fachwerkhäusern und altmodischen Kneipen ist fast wie eine Reise in eine längst vergangene Zeit und man entdeckt so manches Kleinod.

Die malerische Stadt lockt seit dem Mittelalter als Wallfahrtsort Besucher an und dorthin reisten die Pilger aus London in Chaucers Canterbury Tales, um die Kathedrale zu besuchen.

Geoffrey Chaucer war ein mittelalterlicher englischer Dichter, Schriftsteller und Philosoph und einer der besten englischen Dichter aller Zeiten. Er gilt als Vater der englischen Sprache und Literatur. Ihm wurde auf der Kreuzung High Street und Best Lane eine Statue gewidmet.

Der Sockel dieser Statue stellt die Figuren aus Chaucers Prolog zu den Canterbury Tales dar. In den Canterbury Tales werden 29 Pilger erwähnt. Der Gag: ihre Gesichter werden von neuzeitlichen Einheimischen mit Verbindungen zu Canterbury dargestellt.

Der in Canterbury geborene Schauspieler Orlando Bloom ist, zusammen mit anderen, vorne auf dem Sockel als „Junger Knappe“ abgebildet. Allerdings hätten wir ihm im Leben nicht erkannt, wenn wir es nicht gewusst hätten. 

Canterburys zentrales Museum, Bibliothek und Kunstgalerie sind in einem wunderschönen Haus im Tudor-Stil an der High Street untergebracht. Es wurde im späten 19. Jahrhundert erbaut und ist nach dem in Canterbury geborenen Chirurgen James George Beaney benannt, der nach Australien auswanderte und nach seinem Tod 10.000 Pfund in Canterbury hinterließ, um ein Museum zu bauen.

Es wurde kürzlich modernisiert und ist voller Antiquitäten sowie griechischer und ägyptischer Artefakte, darunter eine mumifizierte Katze und ein Raum mit Gemälden lokaler Künstler wie Thomas Sidney Cooper.

Die kleinen Parks und Grünflächen in der Stadt laden überall zum verweilen, schlendern und entdecken ein. 

Uns hat es gut gefallen und wir können uns durchaus vorstellen diese schöne Stadt noch einmal zu besuchen. 

Mit unserem knappen Zeitbudget konnten wir nur ein bisschen an der Oberfläche kratzen.

Wir starten heute Morgen um 11 Uhr von unserem Parkplatz, nachdem wir unserem ganzen Krempel wieder im Auto verstaut haben.

Südlich umschiffen bzw. umfahren wir London und treffen, viele Verkehrsstaus später, in Windsor an unserem Appartement ein. 

Für morgen haben wir eine Fahrt mit dem “Duckmobil” gebucht. Was das ist und worum es dabei geht, das verrate ich dann morgen Abend.

IN NEED OF FUNDS

Hi, this feels so shitty to do, but I'm out of options. I'm a queer, disabled person who is completely out of money. I have no groceries left, cant pay my bills, and am worried about not making July rent.

I recently took emergency mental health leave from my 1 job because my manager and coworker were bullying me so badly that I seriously thought about suicide. I wanted 1 week off, the doctor I consulted gave me 2 weeks off, and my manager would not let me return for a whopping 4 weeks. Now she has refused to schedule me, although I am not fired. She is not returning my calls or messages.

I got a second job but it's only 10-12 hours a week so pay cheques are less than $200 every two weeks. I keep applying everywhere but either I dont get contacted or, and this really bites, the people contacting me only want me to work weekends, which I already work. I am available monday-thursday but I cannot find work.

I also cannot borrow money from friends, since I already have.

I am estranged from my abusive parents and only sibling.

I cannot apply for disability since I made just a bit over the cut off by working last year.

I cannot apply for E.I. because I am still working weekends.

I have no savings because I've been so sick this past winter, mostly from a coworker coming in sick all the time.

I am looking into my local food banks but they require applications and only give 15 meals/month.

I am running out of my medications that keep me mentally stable.

I have nothing of value to sell. Everything I own is second hand.

I am even trying sex work again but I cannot find clients where I am.

I don't know what to do, I'm hungry and confused and feel so broken.
