the downfall of steve harrington in s4

hi im back i forgot abt this acc. anyway i wanna rant about what the fuck the duffers turned steve into in season 4.

tl;dr - stancy doesnt make any sense, im genuinely upset it coming back is technically canon

literally what happened???? seasons 2 & 3 gave steve so much character development; he acknowledged that he was a terrible boyfriend towards nancy, and began to move on. then s4 fucked it all up and somehow he's in love with nancy still? like it frustrates me so much, sure nance is the one who got away but i dont think he really knew her.

ive seen a ton of people talk about this; if nance and steve were to get back together, she'd be running away from her dreams and becoming what she hated the most. her parents. jonathan is fully supportive of her aspirations to become a journalist, while i bet steve doesnt even know that shes interested in it so much.

lalala team jancy, team ronance... i just want what will be best for nance, or for everyone for that matter. BUT WE ALL HAVE ONE ENEMY: stancy.

there are just so many things WRONG with that ship. i am genuinely so frustrated that this shit is CANON. like im genuinely so upset over it...

the REAL nancy would not ever consider going back to steve. sure, with the strain her and jon have atm, she'd probably think abt it. but she's a smart girl! she knows why they didnt work out, i mean he hurt her!! completely disregarded her trauma!! even if thats in the past, their dreams are just way different!

they also dont KNOW EACH OTHER HELLO

RONANCE makes more fucking sense if the duffers wanted jancy gone. nancy being an independent woman works as well tho :3

ugh i just. its so disappointing. steve's character went completely backwards. i hate it so much.

i have to believe in a mike wheeler redemption arc at this point. there’s no other way. people in the ga/non bylers are seeing how phony mike’s confession was, and they ARE seeing the fact that it was entirely prompted by will and his painting. i have to believe with all my heart that this is all set up to redeem him in the end - i truly don’t think they will introduce another love interest for will, and if they did, i don’t think they’ll do it well. it feels like they’ve absolutely backed themselves into a corner with this one - will has obviously been shown to have more than a “puppy crush” on mike, and i can see them redeeming byler faster than them getting over that love for a new love interest

i’m still believing in the idea that internalized homophobia is still the reason for why he acted. the idea that his confession and monologue was all meant for WILL because it was all led there by will anyways. even if the duffer brothers aren’t smart enough on their own, there will be other writers in the room for s5’s episodes - i’m hoping with all my heart that if they could redeem steve, who literally called jonathan a slur, they can redeem mike in s5 at the end of the day

Is it tea time?? Okay, first off, I love so so much that you make Eddie such an authentic nerd with headbanging tendencies 😋 Like. People often see metalheads and think of them as total badasses who assert dominance at any given chance. But fact is, guys like Eddie are more often than not soft goofballs and I'm so happy you give him that. Hashtag Swagless. You don't gloss over his problems while still not reducing him to them, as unfortunately many people do with their faves. You're not afraid to make him act awkward when the situation warrants it, but don’t overdo it. That's what I mean by authentic. He has good and bad sides like everyone, you keep the balance. He's loveable as fuck, I never know if I could win in a fight behind a Denny's with him or not. It's a ✨️mystery✨️. I'm a fan. And even Michael finds him adorable even if he yet has to plunge into Eddie's dark side, but we'll be getting there 😉

Confession time that I actually didn't follow you before I did because I thought your blog was super cool, too cool. 🥺 But I'm super glad we are friends now! Authenticity is very important to me. Lots of people kinda try to paint Eddie as this super cool and badass dude, and I'm not saying he doesn't do cool things. But he's a complete nerdy loser who will run away....unless he sees no other option or those he loves are in danger. For me, Eddie is one of the most seemingly human characters on the show. He's not strong, incredibly smart or particularly brave, and that's okay despite what the Duffers think. Eddie didn't need to be anymore than what he was. He was already his own brand of brave and strong simply for being himself in small town America in the 80s, and didn't need to be a stereotypical goddamn hero, everything that happened with Chrissy was not his fault, Eddie had a perfectly normal reaction in that situation pls. He had the potential to be so much more complex, but all the Duffers care about is their period tropes. 🙄 The layers of Eddie are soooo important, so I'm most pleased those show through! Rpers gotta fix the Duffers mistakes.
