worst popular infinite headcanon?

oh my. this one got long so im going to spare peoples dashes by putting this under a cut haha

anyways my answer is: making him out to be a little crybaby who is driven purely by revenge and sadness to make the world pay for shadow killing his squad mates, whom he loved in a normal way and saw them as family or whatever. it makes his character so goddamn flat and boring bc thats such a standard villain motivation, and it entirely strips away a lot of his personality even when theres already so little to work with LMAO

i know ive spoken about it at length in the dog&hog server but to me, infinites most notable trait is that hes selfish

in the prequel comic rise of infinite (yay, prequel comic talk. everyones favourite, i know) he deliberately ignores any protests from his gang against accepting eggmans deal of working with him, because eggy singles him out and offers him a place at his side to bring his fantasy of ruin into reality. not infinite and his crew, just infinite

(image has two comic panels. in the first one, eggman is reaching a hand out to infinite as he says "now you are an interesting guy. i like you. how about i hire you to lead my forces? together we'll take over the world!" in the second panel, one of the jackal squad members says "boss! dont be tempted by him. we'll be fine!")

and infinite says yes after briefly talking about how he personally feels bored and tired of how the world is right now

again, its a decision based off an entirely personal and individualistic opinion that only takes his own feelings into account. you would think that if he valued his squad to the extent that they were "like family" to him, he would have listened when they said he shouldnt make a deal with eggman. if he actually cared about them as much as he cared about himself, he would have trusted them enough to say no. instead he only thinks about what he wants and what he can get, not about what will happen to the others

ive always been of the opinion that infinite used his squad and position of authority as their leader to prop himself up and viewed them more like underlings or subjects that he could order around and be superior to, rather than equals whose opinions and input he valued. maybe he started out having more camaraderie with the other jackals, but it certainly doesnt show by the time we get to the events of the prequel comic, and even less so when we get to episode shadow/the main game

the idea that he saw his squad more like tools to make himself look better than people also makes more sense because when in episode shadow, eggman calls infinites squad "useless" directly to him and all infinite says is "yeah, yeah" in a very uncaring fashion. even when he then spots shadow and says "you.. you destroyed my squad!" its entirely unconvincing to me that he said it out of sorrow or sadness; to me it was more like simple anger that it happened. because now without his little group of followers that looked up to him and did whatever he told them to, he had nobody to feel superior to. he couldnt go on any more power trips by being The Boss bc there was nobody left to indulge him, no one to stoke his ego, nobody to be the boss of. so thats why he felt slighted by shadow in the first place; how dare this hedgehog take away what made him feel special and important. and then of course the ensuing humiliation that came afterward was just the icing on the shit cake haha

it also explains why infinite never brings up his squad in any of his monologues (besides the prequel comics and episode shadow being obvious afterthoughts to the main game loool); he just doesnt care. if anything, their loss was his gain bc it pushed him towards acquiring the phantom ruby and getting to go on the ultimate power trip of world domination and near total subjugation of the population. i think that also ties into his mindset that friends make you weak and you cant rely on anyone but yourself; in his case, thats literally true. if he hadnt lost his squad, if he had initially listened to them, the chain of events we know well would not have come to pass and he would not have gotten to become the powerhouse he did. he would have still been leading his monotonous life and following the same old script. from his perspective they really did hold him back, and only once they were gone was he able to become stronger. he reiterates this by thanking shadow in the dlc for doing what he did in mystic jungle (killing the jackal squad and kicking infinites ass) bc otherwise he wouldnt have gotten the incentive he needed to take on the mantle of becoming a super powered weapon

and if you want some more evidence thats admittedly a lot more of a stretch, you could also interpret infinite creating a posse of past sonic foes as him filling the void of using the jackal squad that was created after shadow had taken them down. he gets to control people again (even if theyre clones that had no choice but to obey him but nyeh i told you it was a stretch), he gets to be a leader again

idk, i just think that having a sob story as a main motivation is (funny joke here) weak. i have never once thought that infinite needs to have some kind of sympathetic or tragic backstory. and maybe thats just my own personal bias coming through bc i prefer villains that are evil for reasons like their moral philosophies or have some kind of goal that makes the audience go "maybe they do have a point tbh" and villains that are just evil for the sake of it over villains that say "my mom died" as if that is any kind of justifiable explanation. imo it almost always comes off as them making an excuse, and its lame. just own it, yknow?

so yeah if i could block one thing from the minds of infinite fans it would be the hc that infinite was tightly knit with the jackals and wanted what was best for them. bc with all the evidence ive seen, its not supported at all, and hes actually the exact opposite; he does what he wants and uses who he wants for his own purposes and gain

also yes i do think shadow straight up killed the other jackals and i do think thats in character for him but thats a conversation for another day

-the type to book an entire high-end restaurant -he spares no expense on the atmosphere of the date where he's gonna propose -the dim yellow lighting, tablecloths, candelabras, every possible type of dish you'd love, all your favorite desserts, everything (u can tell i love those kinda dates) -by the time you arrive at the restaurant, Childe is already waiting there for you with a bouquet of your favorite flowers. To say he looks gorgeous in his expensive suit is a freaking understatement. -he'd charmingly give you the bouquet, before proposing old style, the way royals did it and all- he'd go down on one knee, take out a small box from his front pocket which contains the most beautiful and elegent ring you could ever hope to receive from anyone -he want to make sure he isnt outshone by anyone else in your life -he wouldn't go into a long speech or smth, but he would clearly express the utter love and adoration he held for you before asking you to marry him, hope and uncertainty evident in his gaze. This man has a way with words I tell you -how the hell could you not accept -after that he's the happiest man alive as you two share your first dinner as an engaged couple

-you know how pretty Chinju forest is at night, right? with all the glowing plants and stuff -well his would be a night date. firstly Ayato would make sure that every monster camp that could possibly disturb their date was sent into oblivion -then with Thoma's help, he'd find this cozy little grove of trees covered in those luminescent plants -he'd set it up like a small picnic/resting spot, with blankets and LOTS of cushions and pillows and delish food and whatnot -it would be the perfect spot to just bask in each other's presence -he'd obviously dress up to his best that night, and he'd escort you all the way to his special place to ensure your safety - as the night goes on, the plants around lighting up a light blue and the stars filling the sky and the glowbugs all around, as you both simply relish each other's warmth and presence, he suddenly turns to you -taking each of your hands in his, he stares into your eyes for a few moments before quietly speaking up, expressing how much he loves you, how you're the brightest light in his life and other romantic mushy stuff -it's not too long tho, and in the end he says, "So, my dearest, would you do me the honors of marrying me?" -as he says that, his hands leave yours to open a small ring box that was resting in his pocket till now. There is doubt in his eyes, that perhaps you'll refuse, but also hope that you'll accept -after you get over your shock, you give him a bright smile and ask him how could you possibly not accept his proposal. -with a smile that matches yours' brightness, he slips the ring onto your ring finger before cupping each of your cheeks with his hands and pressing a soft kiss onto your lips.

I’ve done a similar response to this before here and mentioned something else about it here but I’ll go over it again since those posts are both from a while ago. also bear in mind I haven’t seen aya recently bc I don’t like it. okay let’s get into it

[also im gonna preface this saying maybe i sound very pessimistic but im ranting and its just gonna sound like im complaining because i am. i mean no real malice by the way. im simply a person with a blog.]

first off. they don’t use the show don’t tell as well as they could. in the what might have been montage, sure, they showed potential scenarios and how phineas felt (very briefly) when isa stopped visiting his backyard but it just feels so rushed. I get that they only had like 11 minutes to show it but idk there has to be another way to write it. or just not have it at all idk its just from a writing point of view the whole episode feels rushed and out of place from everything else continuity-wise. why not use little easter eggs planted in the show beforehand? operation crumbcake? pharmacists? meapless in seattle? god theres so many episodes with evidence that phineas liked her back even if he didnt know. just. continuity!!!!

second. why did their friends not try something sooner. it’s not like they didn’t know. like phineas seems to be okay with saying “i wish! i am so in the friend zone there” in front of his friends (that quote alone makes me lose my shit but that’s a whole other point) so clearly they knew about phineas. and isabella also wasn’t quiet about it (source: pnf s1-4). they had like four years of high school to do something and they planned it the day isa left for college? nah its just the least realistic thing ever for me. also them being 18 is like yeah okay maybe the slow burn was worth it and theyre way more grown up (i love a good slowburn) but ohhhhhh my god SURELY their friends were getting sick of them dancing around each other. just me?

third. and I’m sorry to ash simpson but oh my god I hate the character designs like They Would Not Fucking Look Like That. it almost feels like it completely disregards their arcs during the original summer. like yeah child chub disappears over ur teen years but sometimes it stays a little longer! make phineas less twiggy!! make isa look more like her mother! (am i about to redesign them again? whoops)

four. and i know this is no fault of dan and swampy but the show was about to end anyways and yet the entire friend group was paired off into hetero ships?? get fucking real. none of those kids are straight. realistically, i know it was a different time and gay marriage wasnt even legal in the us yet so it wasnt all that common to have queer romance on screen let alone on disney channel but like i said, the show was about to end. what were the disney channel execs gonna do? cancel it? lmao

five. "I am so in the friend zone there." "we are guys. we do not talk about our feelings." WHAT!!! i cant believe this shit is real. these lines of dialogue are canon. what the hell. what kind of message does that even send to younger, impressionable viewers? if ur a 10 year old boy watching that (ok fine maybe that isnt gonna stick with you forever but listen) and you go 'oh its okay to just bottle everything up and not tell my friends about my feelings about anything ever' that is insane! thats not how things should go!! like i get the whole "im so in the friend zone" and yes, this also has to do with the era but like if they wanted to be a more progressive cartoon that kids look up to and enjoy maybe they just. shouldn't have put that whole conversation in.

i barely have any problems with the b plot. in fact id watch the episode just for the kazoo solo. because that plot lines up with the continuity. i can totally see heinz having bowling night with perry and carl and monogram every week! i can totally see perry and monogram retired! and carl running owca and getting payed for it! that all checks out! that one makes sense and works with the canon! if they got that plot so right how did they get the a plot so wrong?

i can answer this question: fanservice. its an awful word, i know. act your age is a fanservicey episode which is why i think it crashed and burned. mml season 2 is rooted in the same issue: doof is very present and takes away from the original plot of the show. like, the one he wasnt even in until the last episode of s1. slightly getting off topic but it is the crux of the issue. fanservice doesnt make for good storytelling. even if it brings in the big bucks. at its core, telling the story the way it should be told is the best one. even if it pisses people off. a good portion of the viewers will still appreciate whatever ending the creators come up with. and no, im not saying phinbella shouldn't have become canon, in fact i really like the ship and all their dynamics, i just think they went about it the wrong way.

as someone who's written and published fic about them getting together in different universes (granted, they were from when i was younger so its mildly terrible. take them with a grain of salt) there are a lot of other ways to tell that story canonically. honestly, i think the best way of doing it was to keep it ambiguous. dont tell that story. let the viewers pick their own ending for phineas and isabella. maybe they dont get together after all. who knows!

i just read your bottom mike points and its the most sense ive ever read on that topic, considering im a top mike truther. not so much dom mike, cos i think theyre equals, but your thing about mike chiling and come down to wills level was interesting. it makes me wonder how these dynamics would have played out if there was never this supernatural threat... i got the sense that mike still always led, because of how he approached will on the swings, and their little bickers in the whole group even, outside of monster stuff (like the ghostbusters venkman thing). mike being the de facto leader, soft version when with will, seemed like something that had simply always been. he's soft with will, but usually when he thinks will needs caring for. when will isnt in danger, i dont think mike is soft or chill necessarily. so its interesting that you see a matured, grown-into-himself and secure mike as 'chilling'.

and lastly, if they both come down and meet on this equal level of softness, how is that still evidence of mike being a sub? surely that would make them both soft vers?

but your points did make sense and i like that there are some bottomsub mike people out there who dont just see him as a babygirl

i think it’s just the way i see it or prefer, i guess? i don’t think i ever claimed that theres evidence of mike being a sub, since i’m of the strong belief that there’s no evidence for their sexual dynamic at all.

it’s really just how i prefer to think about it if i had to pick my favorite dynamic or what i’d lean towards when i’m writing.. lmao i think we’re pretty much on the same page tho, since i’m also a top mike truther who thinks they’re equals. so, sure, soft vers is a great description - but my personal preference is that mike is perfectly fine submitting to whatever will says and (for the reasons i said) will is perfectly fine not only asking for what he wants but also taking care of mike bc he wants mike to feel so good (which there is huge evidence for in s4). i’m not forcing others to see it this way, it’s just what i like 🥲 (also i should note that this isn’t the only dynamic i like when thinking of byler concepts, i like it all 😮‍💨 but when talking about which part of their canon dynamic is most satisfying/realistic to me i guess?)

(but i’d rather not have more people come to my inbox saying ‘well what you’re describing is actually still dom mike,’ because to me it’s not. i don’t see him that way as a default/usual assumed dynamic for them.)

to address what you said about mike’s behaviors being more dominant-leaning even outside of supernatural stuff, i guess my stance is that you can’t really separate it? like the way he was in s2 from the start was bc he felt crazy about el being alive or not. and him being the softer version with will is yes bc he has a sense of feeling like he’s taking care of someone, ((((((which i could argue isn’t a traditionally masc role but i won’t)))))) but also because it’s a safe place for him. i agree with you that he is 1000% the de facto leader of their group. he also paralleled joyce a lot in s1 with his persistence in getting will back and getting the others on board, while also being the gentlest and most nurturing of the boys with eleven.

what i love about mike is that he isn’t a violent person, like, at all - and it’s shown in the times that he does try and defend himself/others - it’s unnatural. i love that he can be the leader who people look to for guidance but not because he demands it, he just is. he’s the quietest in the party when theyre at the arcade in s2. there’s a common theme of will trusting and confiding in him where he wouldn’t with others. themes of nurturing, safe haven, emotional intelligence, follow mike before the clear shift in s2-3 when things start to become unmanageable for him. there are a lot of things that set him apart from dustin and lucas in s1 as far as typical masc traits and how they treat el (especially noticeable with lucas, since he and mike have pretty similar motive to get will back).

as far as him not being soft or chill w will when he’s not in danger, i guess we’ll have to agree to disagree? i’m thinking about “another 90 miles, why” and the softness in his tone when theyre on the couch, before will discloses that 001 isn’t dead. demanding and aggressive isn’t his default in a comfort setting. it’s just something that’s easy to pick up on for me, something i enjoy exploring more of, and a cool thing about fanfiction is that ability to have different interpretations or see qualities in characters that you focus on more while others choose different ones to expound on.

i’ve always said i think it’s presumptuous to assume the mike we see, with his clear multitude of external pressures, is the one he’ll be years from now. (will too, but mike is the focus here). and it’s really not far fetched when you look at how he is in his earlier days that he’s softer than the typical boy and would likely level back to that when settled and regulated.

why are you so rude to ares i do not understand your beef with them. they’re not even messing with your business. Their blog is supposed to be their safe place where they discuss their thoughts and vent frustrations regarding their favs. why must you be so harsh on who they ship and whatnot. it’s not that deep

as i've said before, it's not really (or at least, primarily) about the ship. my own personal distaste aside, fandom by and large does not care about the fighting over it so my stance here is to block accounts i find that engage in it without interacting with them at all. if they had been upfront about it from the start that is what i would have done, like i have done with other blogs prior to this.

its about the fact that they intentionally positioned themselves as someone who was not into it to get close to people who were very clearly uncomfortable with it, including children, when that wasnt true. if expressing that this is not acceptable behavior is rude then what does that make their own behavior? or the fact that they disrespected Indian Hindus who were uncomfortable with their behavior shipping other characters, portraying it as a simple 'disagreement over interpretation'? (the nature of fgo aside, it isnt appropriate to talk like that to someone from the actual religion like that if they're trying to tell you that you're making them uncomfortable)

If simply pointing out that lying about a very controversial subject they engage in to interact with people who dont like it is an inappropriate thing to do, then what does that make them? or is it ok that they decided to do that instead of finding a group of their peers? is it ok that theyre now posting asks saying that the person being sent death and rape threats for mentioning it on twitter is lying, or that being given evidence of what they did constitutes stalking on the end of the person who was given the evidence, or any of the various other things theyve been saying in an attempt to twist the people who were uncomfortable with their lie as enabling victims when we were very clearly only talking to our friend group about something that bothered us? is all of that ok?

i've gone out of my way not to name them despite their attitude because i know how people get about this, which isnt a service theyve shown me or others. you are not the victim because people you had talked to found out you were lying about writing nsfw incest fic and told their friends.

I am doing my best to be polite here despite everything, and im sorry if its not coming across that way, but i truly do not know what people expect of me. at the end of the day i am still a person and i don't like finding out i was lied to about something i was very clear was a boundary. it doesnt help that they were incredibly aggressive to me prior to this about unrelated matters when i'd been as clear as i could i was willing to listen to their concerns about that if they approached me, so i really dont know what else i could do. i do my best to treat other people with respect online but if you're going to interact in a public space i frequent, get angry when i respond to public posts, claim you dont do something when you do, and then say that you're the victim when people find out (after theyre already blocked, bc someone else told them) im not sure what to say except that that's wholly unnecessary.

it is really crazy to me how ignored linda is in fanworks when i personally think shes great. and u cant even blame it on the lack of information either bc we know maybe 2 more things abt rosemary than linda. also insane to me how ppl are devoted to jack/rose like god himself made it but don't even talk abt how sad felix and linda are. like. Make felix gay or whatever if you want this isnt really about that (altho i do think hes often simply made gay bc ppl dont wanna care abt women + see a struggling married couple in the 70s for reasons completely outside of sexuality with no children and assume everyone involved is gay. Anyway), but like can we stop pretending he didnt care abt his wife .......... yeah sure its funny to make jokes abt him being into men or being bicurious and shit but theres a lot of canonical evidence to support them loving each other very much, and tbh i find their broken little fucked up marriage interesting. he wrote a SONG about her man it's just as agonizing as learning rosemary wrote songs about her husband for showstoppers.

idk maybe im crazy but i simply think its good character writing that gets overshadowed for the sake of lgbt headcanons when, like, their marriage is failing because of felix's addiction. the walten files is largely a story about addiction and how explosive and damaging it can be to addicts and the people around them.

u guys don't know how happy i am to get this ask, man!! ive been ROOTING for good things to come with gg !! a little quietly at the beginning bcs i didn't want to add more pressure onto the lil guy, but man. im so glad things are going well for him!!! he's had a.. challenging start, to say, for a career in the NBA... at least regarding public opinion, anyways.

I'm a fan of UNC basketball, that's how I heard abt GG in the first place. For necessary background, UNC is a Big basketball school that hailed Michael Jordan, hence how i'm a fan bcs Chicago duh. GG isnt from North Carolina, but he IS from SOUTH carolina (remember this), so UNC was definitely trying to recruit him using homefield advantage and big name BCS GG was hyped to be a big FUTURE talent. Keyword being future. The main conflicts in GG's basketball journey were: going into college a year early.. and going into the NBA a year early. Basically, in his 'freshman' year of college.. he was actually (supposed to be) a HIGHSCHOOL senior. AND NOW.. in his first year in the nba.. he's actually supposed to be a FRESHMAN in COLLEGE. Going into things early isn't new in the nba.. but to do it twice? It can double the average challenges.

UNC was one of the mainstream stems from that 1st conflict. Short summary, GG originally committed to NORTH carolina for 79 days. Took the pictures, all that. UNC was stoked to have him as a player whose talents they could help mold. GG was projected, at one point in HIGHSCHOOL to be # 1! Which makes it sound silly for UNC to have work in PROGRESS plans for GG and not INSTANT stardom set up. But we have to keep in mind the FIRST CONFLICT: GG reclassified from highschool early. All these projections & hype are very preemptive. NOW IF HES A HIGHSCHOOL SENIOR who did FOUR years of lower school.. and the hype has CONTINUED throughout those 4 years.. then the narrative maybe wouldve been different in terms of training. Gg's skills would be more trusted than trained since he has the stability in years and evidence of backing claims. Projections would turn into points. But he didn't. And that's fine!! That's more than fine for UNC because they have basketball history! They have proven tools and methods to help turn the number 23 into the name MICHAEL JORDAN. UNC FANS and UNC itself were excited to have GG on as a future eventual sophomore star at the LEAST! They were excited to show GG how to sharpen his young skills using their own very skillful roster!

And then GG decommited for a college closer to where he's from (South Carolina). Now you would think UNC would be mad because they view it as 'betrayal' to their 'great rival south', but... they don't. Because south carolina is. Not their great rival. At least not as much anymore. It used to be, there's OLD history, but.. now it's just history because UNCs been creating NEW history. It's UNC versus DUKE now. It's UNC entering bigger basketball, and South? It's not really doing that.

UNC fans are mad not because of the name of the school, but the game of it. South Carolina simply does not have the same depth, training, resources, and stardom as UNC. That's why they're not really rivals anymore.. UNC's outgrown South in terms of basketball skill. The decommital wasn't exactly an insult of namebrand, but of pure, raw skill.

GG went to South because it wasn't as skilled. That's what all the UNC people who are hurt about it say. I don't personally share the same hurt, but i can see the reason. Kids can choose big schools that can nuture them into an eventual big name later on, which means you can risk your pick in the draft being lower from so many big fish sharing the same ocean, but it can help you seem more solid and safe as an option so you WILL eventually be picked (talking abt like maxey and keldon going to Kentucky. Didn't get picked too high, but still got picked anyways), or go to a small school with a smaller pool so you have all the room to show off your talent.. with the risk of showing off your weaknesses as well from the bigger burden of being the star backbone. Stand out more, get stung more. And GG got... he got stung pretty bad.

I don't care what future prospects do, tbh. Im not the kind of guy who's like 'LOOK AT THIS 9FT TALL 9 YEAR OLD!! IMAGINE HIM IN THE 20XX DRAFT!!!' like girl. i could be dead by the time he becomes a teen or smthin. Im not gonna worry abt some child bcs. Like. Im normal lol. They have their own worries, and i have my own worries. Sadly, not a lot of people think like that... especially people who like college sports. Idk if it's a variation of that one person who keeps visiting their old highschool 'stomping grounds' or What. But they feel like a certain entitlement to their college and who enters it. GG going to a smaller basketball 'pool' (talent terms) school was a lowblow to their 'UNC COLLEGE PRIDE' or whatever. 5 star talent is decommitting from a 5 star talent college to a . A 1 star. Oh my gosh, you woulda thought these grown men considered it a stabbing from their own son. Their wouldve been next Michael jordan just walked out to go to community college, in dramatized words.

' but GG IS from SOUTH carolina! He's not from North! It makes sense, at least, for him to want to stay at his hometown even though it's smaller! Like ant! ' but unlike ant.. he only did 3 years of highschool. Ant did 4, built up both SOLID and big hype, then denied big schools for his home team Straight Up. When GG wanted to stay closer to home, it showed less loyalty and more selfishness .. to the press anyways.. BECAUSE he's ONLY done 3 years! Only has 3 years of resume! To UNC, gg should be GRATEFUL to even be CONSIDERED by them RIGHT now. If he had 4 years and KEPT UP a STRONG hype, then it'd be reversed. But it's not. GG is too young, UNC is too stacked, and South is too desperate.

GG goes to South Carolina. He even filmed a little tiktok with his friends poking fun at his decommitment from big UNC to South. It was a little light thing that quickly got deleted, but on social media.. nothing is light and nothing is ever Really deleted. You can still find the video and you can still find the insulted UNC fans under it. It's just more evidence of how young he is and how naive he is to burdens regarding business. So anyways, he goes to South Carolina... and he doesn't do what he was hyped to do. It was too much pressure, too much scarcity of help. The coach, who's close to GG bcs hes the best thing they have to a 'star', despite how young he is.. They're that bare bones, sees how all these minutes are doing more harm to GG's stock than help like college minutes for any player is supposed to, and tries sitting him out more as a solution. Tries writing plays that'll set GG up for maybe an assist but not a point, definitely not points because he just hasn't been getting them and if the NBA didn't see it back then during smaller scale highschool.. they definitely see it in college. They definitely see it in a SMALL basketball college, when there isnt a lot of other teammates to stare at or depend on. Big Scale UNC fans CERTAINLY see it after GG politely then not-so politely turned down their 'token of kindness' for.. what's shaping up to be a big mistake.

GG does not take very well to that. ONE OF the ups on why he chose this school of namebrand UNC (im not saying it's the ONLY reason, like some angered Unc fans may, but im also not saying it Not one to be considered . Im just bringing general observations that are either heavily backed or confirmed by fact) is for those HEAVY minutes. He was hyped to be their star, but he's not getting those deep save the game minutes he expected. He was supposed to get all the plays, and now he's getting some. So he does what ANY kid does nowadays and rants his frustrations out on social media

that doesn't go well. He can't be a kid, not according to college, not when you set yourself up to be the leader of a team. When you take on big tasks, you take on big blame as well. That goes double in sports. It's a bit harsh, if you ask me, but no one's asking.

So now he has all this doubt in his head. And his dad isn't an athlete, he's a pastor, so he's telling GG to have faith and to have faith and faith and faith, but what if it's FAKE? what if UNC was right in telling him he can't shoulder this alone. What if everyone was right. What if he's selfish. So he enters the draft and it's SPECULATED that he didn't do well.

People are saying the person who dropped it then dropped so low in the draft because of it is him. People in the nba and out of it. I'm not saying it's true or it's not, we don't know, but i do know that having a rumor like THIS on you? When you're so young?? Is not good. At all. Combine that with his less than positive living to the solo hype at South? And you get this.

GG crying at his own draft party because of how poorly he's doing.

Just looking at the photo alone just fuckin. Splits the heart for me. He's a KID!! he's a KID! i don't know if it just hits harder for me bcs ive BEEN to draft parties where the draft never happened, or maybe because we're like one year apart in youth, like im not that 'discontented nothing better to do in my life' adult yet like a lot of his long-term haters have been.. but like. That sucks. That's awful to see. His coach, the same person GG openly criticized on social media, being in his ear CONSOLING him.. keeping him from bawling in front of all these people.. telling him he could always come back to college and give it another year and GG doesn't even know if he should do that or not is.. it's painful!! GG set this party up BANKING off the Hope, the FAITH that the hype he had back in HIGHSCHOOL, those THREE years.. was STRONG enough to get him drafted not top 10 but at least first ROUND?? And that sounds stupid now, it sounds silly, it sounds grandiose, and it is. It has to be because he WAS the projected #1 pick at some point. He WAS a lottery pick. And now he doesn't even know if he's gonna be picked at all because of what? Because he had faith? Because he betted on himself? He listened to his dad?? He's a kid??????

That's what a Lot of people wanted for him. They CRAVED it. They WANTED him to fail BECAUSE he's young and because he's made mistakes and because it happens. It's unfair for other possibilities. Famous failure is different than mere familiar failure. It just tastes better.

I care about GG because I think some people, who have no business to, care about him Too much. I'm just happy he's managed to do what makes him happy because not everyone can, so it's a blessing that he can and I love that for him. I don't care about GG bcs he 'proved the haters wrong blahblah blah', because he really didn't. He went in young, took the harder option, and got his draft history hurt because of it. Shit happens. He's clearly learning, he's clearly improving, and he's clearly happy.

And i like when people are happy. Idk, maybe im just sick :)

this is random but what did you think about the mlvn r and j references? I personally think it's a case of Not That Deep (although if it is that deep, I don't think it's good for mlvn) but I was so irritated by everyone talking about it bc even if I think it was foreshadowing the end of mlvn in some way, I was still really bugged by people dumbing down r and j to being "a satirical critique of stupid teenagers" bc that's just. not what it is.

i dont think the romeo and juliet references are a stretch. i do see the connections and i’ll go into that in a sec but the thing that holds me back is that romeo and juliet really were in love. it was everyone else that were against them being together, not each other. star crossed lovers is defined as two lovers who cannot be together, again, implying that they really are in love but some external conflict is against them being together. these analogies honestly seem more applicable to a potential gay couple in the 80s. (also i read this years and years ago and did very basic google searches to jog my memory so plz let me know if you know the story better and disagree)

but the duffers do like to subvert plots so maybe theyre going deeper into it and that “external conflict” is mike being gay. the way mike explicitly said meeting el was “not fate its not destiny its just simple dumb luck” makes me think this is possible.

the script in s3 calls mlvn “star crossed lovers” after dustin was comparing him and suzie to romeo and juliet. thats kinda interesting but its just written in the script alone, which the main audience isnt even meant to see. the direct quote is “speaking of star crossed lovers, mike and el are purposefully lagging behind the rest of the group”. it could be possible though that dustins mention of star crossed lovers was also in reference to them.

argyle calling mike romeo at the pizza place doesnt seem that out of nowhere. that was pretty in character of him cuz he knew he was interrupting a moment.

the oven having “montague” written on it is interesting though. i just did some digging and there is an oven company called montague but their name plates dont look like how it looked in the show.

it still says montague but theres much more emphasis on the “hearth bake” so if they had kept the og name plate, i think it would be harder to pick up on the fact that it says montogue, which leads me to believe that they intentionally had that montague plate costume made.

another thing i found is that theres another big pizza oven company and their name plates look just like that montague plate. very similar font, all caps, and both with a red background. again, this makes me believe that they took inspiration from other vintage pizza ovens to costume make a company name for the oven that just says “montague” alone.

honestly i didnt really believe much about this theory until i looked into the ovens but now its suspicious knowing that they must have had to go through the effort of making a costume name plate. so now that im pretty sure its intentional im gonna try to figure out what it could mean.

also disclaimer, im fully aware that im indulging in confirmation bias right now. im choosing to see how it could represent/foreshadow the death of mlvn instead of how their love could be real simply because of all the other mountains of evidence for byler. if there was barely any evidence for byler i would look at this more from a mlvn point of view but i just cannot see how they would hint at endgame mlvn through a detail this tiny while theres blaringly obvious things for byler.

anyways so im thinking about romeo and juliet. romeo dies first after seeing juliet appear to be dead. he believes that shes really dead and poisons himself. juliet wakes up, sees that hes dead and then stabs herself.

i think that death scene in romeo and juliet is paralleled to mikes monologue because we see the montague name plate on the oven when theyre putting el on the table. mikes seeing el choking and not waking up and maybe thinking shes dying the same way romeo thought juliet was dead. the next part in r&j was romeo killing himself, but in st what happens next is mike telling el he loves her. i think him saying this essentially kills their relationship because he brought up her powers again and thats not what el wanted to hear. this is her face before and after he said “youre my super hero”. she looks mad.

next juliet wakes up and sees that romeos dead and kills herself. so i think this could foreshadow that el wakes up, realizes shes still unhappy, and kills their relationship or in other words, it foreshadows her breaking up with him.

idk though honesty. im kinda just spitballing here. another interpretation could be mike is killing his true self by saying he loves her when he is actually gay. which is very sad. idk let me know what you guys think of this.

ALSO HI IM BACK so ok so. I read some of your posts and I’ve been thinking about it, and it really does bother me how easily casual ableism finds its way into any discussion of Tyrion as a character with the wider fandom. Especially because it’s disguised as “he’s such a terrible person” meanwhile a lot of these same people will love Jaime, a character who did just as many (if not more) horrible things, but who is easier to forgive and to love because he’s physically beautiful, and described as beautiful over and over again in the text. Jaime is pretty, and dumb (not really but he’s portrayed that way many times) and not very ambitious - all things that make it easier for people to like him, and want him redeemed. Also, because Brienne (who is almost overwhelmingly pure and good) decides he’s worth saving and genuinely likes him, it’s easier for readers to care about him. Their desire to see good things happen to pretty people is affirmed by Brienne being in love with him. (None of this to say people shouldn’t like Jaime - I like Jaime!!! A lot! I just don’t pretend his looks make him worth more than any other character.)

Meanwhile Tyrion is described as ugly, misshapen, deformed, stunted, frightening - by almost every character he ever interacts with, over and over and over again. His eyes are clever and sneaky, mismatched and filled with frightening ambition. He is feared and hated by so many people, and when he isn’t feared or hated he is disdained, rejected, reviled or dismissed. All of that is influencing people when they read the books, because most of them have little to no experience with critical analysis of physically disabled characters, and because if I’m being honest a lot of people just don’t read things critically in the first place.

Idek where I was going with this lol I’m just sort of rambling at this point, but anyways all this to say that Tyrion is no better or worse than a lot of the other asoiaf characters. Labelling him as evil in part bc of him being described as demonic, ugly, or misshapen isnt interesting or cute, it’s simply ableist. Any reading of his character that doesn’t include an understanding / analysis of him as a disabled man is an incorrect and incomplete reading of his character. Ableists stfu challenge

oh your ramblings are always welcome here! to be honest, now that you mentioned, i'm thinking about this thing, like - brienne is like a window into jaime. (i love jaime too, so i get what you're saying). through her eyes we see him in a different light; we genuinely like him and root for him. (a very hard thing to do before brienne, honestly, or before jaime becomes a POV character. jaime as POV character is simply one of the best things of the series, i think, but even in his own POV he is not very likable. he is interesting! those are different things.)

we don't have a similar character yet, a sort of reader-insert, to make us sympathetic about tyrion, at least not a POV character. maybe because i am biased (i have already decided to devote my life to love this character) i think there's A LOT OF EVIDENCE that we, as readers, are supposed to have empathy for tyrion right there in the text. but in the world of the characters, i think george made this really interesting thing of... i don't know, almost spreading the sympathy people have for tyrion? it comes in small, homeopathic doses. it's thin. and the only person who truly loves tyrion in that world is jaime, but jaime is partially responsible for tyrion's greatest pain and trauma, like, ever. (sometimes i want to scream when i think about this, lol) and then tyrion finds out about this and he literally becomes the actual worst. this is how important jaime is to him.

anyway, what i'm trying to say is: i think when tyrion and dany meet in the books, this might change. i think dany will be, for tyrion, and in many things, what brienne is to jaime - not a romantic interest necessarily, but a POV character that sees him in a different light. (or maybe she won't! maybe they'll destroy each other. but i have so much hope for them lol like you don't have any idea.)

Anyways regarding mr grizz, i had a theory way back that i knew from the start was a bit outlandish, so dont take this too seriously now. Obviously this is all pre splat 3.

After octo expansion as well as the relationship chart, i studied mr grizz a bit more closely and came to the conclusion that there was a possibility of him being an ai similar to tartar.

Put under readmore bc of spoilers and also its just a long post that i rambled and trailed off like 4 times

My evidence for this was primarily started by the relationship chart. Mr grizz, despite how he speaks about the salmonids in game, only had "..." to say about the salmonids. And the salmonids have no arrow pointing back to him, implying that they dont even know he exists. They know the players exist, calling them "intruders", but they arent actually aware of mr grizz. Mr grizz says that he is relying on you. Obviously, to collect golden eggs, right?

But what reason did he have to collect golden eggs? Its implied that power eggs are commonly used as an energy source, and while its never directly stated what the golden eggs were used for (pre splat 3, of course), it would be a safe assumption that golden eggs are simply a superior energy source, just harder to come by.

Going back to the relationship chart, i found it interesting that mr grizz seemed to have nothing more to say about the salmonids, especially considering the way he talks about them. He seems to hate them a lot, almost if they had done something to personally offend him, but its also somewhat comparable to the way marie talks about octarians. And yet, he has nothing else to say towards the salmonids when we see what his relation is with them. I took this as meaning that he doesnt actually hate the salmonids at all. As if he only talks bad about them to get the workers riled up. Maybe he didnt actually ever hate them, he just needs everyone else to have no way to get attached to them. The "..." could even imply that he may even doubt what he's doing. It really does just seem like an act. And the training manual/salmonid field guide is also never worded overly negative towards the salmonids either.

So why keep it up? There was never an inplication of any energy shortage in inkopolis. We get very little information about the trade between salmonids and octarians, so its unlikely that grizzco has anything to do with octarians. Not to mention, the way he trash talks the salmonids is very different from how he talks to the player. He doesnt necessarily get angry, just disappointed. He seems more patient than one might assume just from a first impression.

An interesting detail that i noticed regarding this is the fact that he never encourages you to go after as many salmonids as you can. If he really did want every salmonid dead, power eggs would be worth more to your score. But he never says that you should kill every single salmonid, just that golden eggs are the priority and the lesser salmonids will get in the way and to take care of those when you need to.

An extremely interesting fact about mr grizz that we actually get from an interview is that mr grizz doesnt actually seem to be there, that hes just pre recorded messages. Which gives even more reason to put up an act of hating salmonids just to get everyone else to agree with you. So where is the real mr grizz then?

I dont know. But what i did want to figure out is, what real motive did mr grizz have to keep grizzco open for so long? Why did it close sometimes? Surely if he wanted every salmonid dead, it wouldve been open all the time (splat 3 really ruined everything about mr grizz for me im not even remotely joking) but it isnt.

There is a sunken scroll as well as something from the salmonid field guide regarding the very destructive nature of the salmonids. We all know of the "seven rings" (which continues to be unexplained) and how the salmonids rise from the ocean and destroy everything, and the salmonid field guide regarding the glowflies event (known as "rush") says how, in the past, many unprepared cities fell victim to the salmonid rush. Clearly, the salmonids are capable of destruction on a mass scale. Maybe mr grizz is just trying to protect inkopolis (god i hate splatoon 3 story mode plot) in an indirect way.

But even with that knowledge, how long has grizzco been open? How old is mr grizz? Has anyone else ever tried to reduce the salmonid population to a point where they wouldnt be such an immediate threat? And even if they could never be reduced to that point, if he really wanted to permanently protect inkopolis, then he would have motive to wipe out every salmonid. But that clearly isnt what he wants. But WHY?

Think back to the ruins of ark polaris. Its, well, an ark. Like, for animals. Like noahs ark. And in the story of noahs ark, the earth is completely flooded. In splatoon, its implied that whatever killed the humans happened suddenly. And we know that there is a lot less land in splatoon than there was in the human era. Almost as if... it were a mass flood. So we could assume ark polaris was supposed to take the role of noahs ark (this was confirmed in splatoon 3). Now, you wouldnt really need to put fish on the ark if theres plenty of water for them to be in. Salmonids happen to be one of those fish that evolved, not exactly the way cephalopods and some other sea creatures did, but they certainly evolved. Its also interesting to note that low tide ark polaris has signs surrounding the area that have a logo similar to grizzcos. As if mr grizz took inspiration from these signs to make it.

Now think back to tartar. Tartar had a prime directive to pass on the humans knowledge to the next dominant species but decided to go its own way about it, finding the evolved sea creatures to be unworthy. Tartar had been observing for over 12,000 years, watching as they all evolved, and came to that conclusion on its own.

This is a stretch, but i thought to myself, what if mr grizz was like tartar initially? With a different prime directive? What if mr grizz was supposed to be connected to ark polaris, but then was given instruction to make sure nobody ever dies of a natural disaster again like the humans did? Or at least to help them prepare?

Combining an initial role of preserving the many lives of various animals with this new responsibility, watching as the salmonids destroy entire cities time and time again, what if mr grizz simply marked salmonids as the "natural disaster" that people need protection from, while simultaneously recognizing that they are still a living species and should still be preserved somewhat? Through grizzco, he would be reducing the salmonid population, but never completely wiping them out, and by doing so, this would protect inkopolis and other smaller cities and towns while still preserving the salmonids lives as well.

To me, this explained why his messages are pre recorded and why he acts like he hates salmonids and why he never encourages you to kill as much as you can. And then, splatoon 3 was revealed.

I had so foolishly assumed that mr grizz being involved would mean that the salmonids would be involved too, considering how he built his entire identity around harvesting their eggs. The smallfry reveal made me think that, if mr grizz was truly another ai with that preservation/protection directive, then perhaps the story will be that he is.. domesticating the salmonids somewhat. As an attempt to keep them alive while also stamping out their destructive nature. This would cause issues as salmonids have their own culture, they arent mindless violent creatures. Doing this would erase what salmonids are as a society. And that would be an issue, because thats just a messed up thing to do, but clearly he doesnt see anything wrong with what hes doing, because to him hes killing two birds with one stone. This would explain the whole "save our salmonids" thing (I REALLY REALLY HATE SPLATOON 3 STORY MODE PLOT).

And then we got the actual splatoon 3 story mode and everything sucked and was terrible forever and ruined any and all character that mr grizz had and could have possibly had. Look, i wasnt expecting ny theory/headcanon to be true, i was just expecting a little bit of literally ANYTHING, but no. We got THAT. Not even a hint of salmonid. Like what was the point of it all then. Nothing. Most disappointing thing ever. It genuinely pains me. I hate it so much.
