the reason why bejeweled feels very calvin to me still is how it parallels high infidelity. in general, the 3am tracks seem to explore a darker, more explicit side of a storyline that’s already present, if only in the form of subtext (like we don’t have a direct parallel for wcs, but we do have two songs exploring formative past relationships vaguely sexually, and wcs is the darker example), on the main album, and bejeweled/high infidelity is perhaps the best example of this. its similarities to tolerate it, which is about something she felt ‘at one point in her life,’ back this up. HOWEVER, I do think it’s exploring a potential outcome of the then-current state of her relationship with joe. like, this is how things could go - I have forgotten that I have a man in the past, and I can do it again.

I'm honestly not too sure how to answer this bc it's such a vague question for someone who has so many OCs lol (/nm). But, I'll try...

If we're going with original OCs, there are a few, like, non-fandom based ones I've been thinking of. They're all from a plot bunny I've had for over a year, about two li'l southern USA kids from the 80s who summon a demon... fun! :D

In the original, Noah Anderson is a wee farmboy, but I'm not sure how that would translate into LWA. There probably is magical agriculture, ig. Maybe like magic cows that give rainbow milk or something lol. He does seem focused on the animals in his work though, so maybe he goes into that in this AU? Working with magical creatures and whatnot? Magical vetinary?

Ruth Black seems like the kinda girl who'd research deities or astrology (and totally is not secretly doing black magic and demonology what are you talking about lol—)

Isiah Woodlock is the class clown and entertainer of his high school as is. I can see him going down the road of Chariot and Akko and going into magic shows.

For Mark Halls, I was trying to figure out how him being into sports (AKA good ol' murican football) would translate, and then I remembered American football exists so... Yeah. That.

And finally, my girl Mary-Anne Briar might go into magical textiles/fashion or something like that. Magically enhanced clothing. There is no in-universe translation for it as a hobby, so that's what we're going with!

This response got a bit long, so...

Yeah, so, it's all a bit of tomfuckery because, well, I was born here. I was raised entirely by my mother (who is Nigerian) in all matters of speaking and my culture, particularly since my father (American) decided to enact his God-complex and get himself locked up when I was conceived, when I was like three, and finally when I was seven.

But, that matter aside, some of you all will have noticed that I mention the phenomenon 'Racial-Triangulation' quite a bit. For those who haven't, basically its the observed cultural phenomenon when non-white* people who live in America will begin exhibiting hostility to non-white people who have just moved to an area or reclassify them as something 'other' than their own race because they have the internalized notion that 'oh, these new people think they're so much better than us' or 'oh, white people treat them better'.

Neither of which are true and, in reality, its just crabs-in-a-bucket syndrome being acted out in real time.

(*I used the phrase non-white because this phenomenon has been observed in Asian-Americans towards Asian immigrants and black Americans to African immigrants or their African-American children)

Interesting story to tie this ask off. So one time when my mother and I were renting a room from an acquaintance, my mother was going to be late coming home from work so she asked said acquaintance to pick me up from the bus stop after school.

She did and, while we were driving into her road, a neighbor of hers walked over to the car. They were talking for a bit before the acquaintance asked 'Oh, I thought you were working at the hospital tonight?'

murican shows, especially ones that still run on the 45 minute 22 episodes per seasons are so interesting because firstly they have a hiatus, which I guess is to give the actors etc a break mid season? But also I think we're so used to watching seasons that contain no more than let say 10 episodes max (I am kind of watching the originals on and off and I've noticed that the last two seasons have only 13 episodes) nowadays that it's always unusual going into a TV show such as Big Sky wherein the seasons are around 16-18 episodes (okay maybe not THAT much of a difference but I still feel like there are still a lot of US tv shows that are going for that 22 episode format).

I think the hiatus is usually because they're trying to get more views for the second part of the season. I could be completely wrong but usually the hiatus comes when actors are either still filming or are already finished. And honestly for me? The streaming services have spoiled people big time (including me at times). To be honest, I really miss the 20-22 episode seasons where some episodes are just fun filler eps. Those ones are usually my favorites. Plus I feel like with nowadays 8-10 episodes you can't do shit. There's barely any character/story development or sometimes stuff doesn't even get resolved and if it does, it all feels really rushed and all over the place. And if I'm fully honest, i also really miss the week to week episodes (which is weird bc usually i hated that). But i swear sometimes a show comes out on netflix at midnight and by 4 am there's already spoilers all over internet. I kinda miss the weekly theories and trying to figure out what's coming up next. Wait, I'm rambling now dhjsa sorry!

In my Reg lives AU I’m at the start of OOtp and stuff between Reg and Sirius is just AWKWARD bc they haven’t had the time to hash stuff out but they collaborate well when there’s trouble afoot they both want to snuff out. Im mulling over the idea that Sirius get his ass nearly caught by DEs so he ends up in Grimmauld with Reg- but he’s willing to push boundaries a little more because the ministry has cleared him of charges, and that gets Sirius and Reg into a lot of rows. Harry learns to be like “I’m not touching this with a ten meter pole” (I’m “murican” but he’d say meters wouldn’t he lol). Reg and Sirius are like “Thank you,” and go back to bickering.

No but that's the sweet spot, imo. When they're so busy with safety concerns and saving the world and whatever tf that they have to momentarily set aside their differences, but the antagonism is always there in the background. And neither of them are ready to really unpack it but it's not like they're just going to let it go, you know?

All of Grimmauld should hopefully give them a wide berth if they don't want to be casualties 😂
