but! now with more speedrun run-on sentence speculationing because I have ✨A Problem™✨

hokay. so. here’s the earth. I don’t really go there, it’s not my jurisdiction, my dvd region or IP address but I know you gotta have your control group and experimental groups, so. do I know if splinter and the boys should actually be referred to the as the control group? hahahahha-- no, not at all. but no scientist is over my shoulder to check my work so moving on.

April’s dad probably tried to go an ethics board or OSHA or whatever for Sacks’ bullshit, didn’t get anywhere so took shit into his own hands ‘cuz I guess fuck them animals-- doesn’t matter April Hogosha O’Neil saves Splinter and the boys. Lab’s ruined, Sacks is out (supposedly) one big-ass container of ooze. now a person with their shit together would have gathered the information in order to proceed to the next point.

but.

ha! anyway. Sadsack kills April’s dad, and probably has a tiff and a half with Shredder about the lab destruction. Shredder probably got maaaad, like you’re his student and you got your whole shit destroyed in a fire? embarrassing. anyway, Shredder’s shrewd as fuck, keeps Sadsack on to do his little science things but now monitored. heavily. i’mma pretend the experimental groups were housed in a different building and thus spared the control group’s fiery “death”. Shredder’s a hoarder with a sunk-cost fallacy complex and probably kept those going under a different team. Sadsack wasn’t notified because a) Shredder can’t trust him with nothing apparently 2) if he did know, he’s the kind of arrogant prick to be all “do not sully my mind with subgrade projects wah wah, my dumbass likes to pretend I’m so calculating but a nerd with a lighter ruined like x years of research”

turns out those experimental groups became something, wow. I’d feel like in terms of testing out multiple variations of the formula, venus and jennika had the least, then slash, then tokka and rahzar. and just ‘cuz all this was started by being tagged in someone’s ask... I feel like maybe Mona and Leatherhead were an extra test group tacked onto the roster after seeing Venus and Jennika gain sentience and gorgeous cheekbones. ‘cuz if that happened, “wouldn’t it be dope if we got a komodo dragon (instead of a salamander, or maybe some Jurassic Park shit and splicing that salamander into a komodo dragon lol y not) and an alligator to do a backflip while throwing a knife?”

anyway, everyone’s gaining sentience like a tiktok dance trend, Venus and Jennika get carted away from the Foot scientists to train. for how long? until what age? i dunno, whatever’ll endear them most to the grandpa character I’d have them meet in Chinatown after they decide to go rogue. but backtracking, they get some training in before plot shenanigans and hey, they should go to nyc because “we have a branch of the Foot Clan there, USDA, FDA, NBA, CIA, FBI are too nosy so we’ll ship our more containment breachy subjects to japan or whereever we can keep thing until we can introduce them in later movies that’d happen in a brighter timeline.”

so like, first of all, you can’t tell kids nothing, and the Foot were the dumbasses who decided to teach teenage girls paramilitarized ninjutsu ig idk how the Foot was supposed to be in the bay movies. Sites say it’s a paramilitary group started by Sacks’n Shredder, Shredder talks as if it’s a reincarnation of the ninja Foot Clan so.... whatevs, my daughters learn ninjutsu. and they’re being shipped off to nyc. and because you can’t keep humanity down Venus and Jennika’s “trainers” didn’t depersonalize them like they were supposed to, and look, they’ve got personalities now. they have hobbies. you ruined a perfectly good killing machine is what you did.

and ‘cuz teenage girls are the most unstoppable force on this planet, they break out mid-shipment and enter nyc on their own terms. bright, shiny nyc to girls who can turn your guts into confetti. amazing, perfect. just gonna glide over unnecessary shit and just assume they slipped through NYC like Leo did in the Mutanimal base in the IDW run (which, I have to give that couple of pages its flowers, that was the most real life ninja shit I’ve ever seen in a TMNT comic in my accessible memory bravo) cue nyc tourist montage. my girls are not above swiping shit directly off of people, so they have a great time. they grab beef patties and chopped cheeses, like 20 little blue cups of nyc joe, they swipe I <3 NY shirts that they can kinda fit in (good luck fitting into that shit when you’re older babes)

they wind up in Chinatown (clikkit is2g) did a great job of flying under human radar and oops, not this one old man. lucky for my daughters they’re lucky (plotwise) and lucky (symbolically), that Old Man Chung offers them refuge, cue bonding montage, aww, an old man scuttling after rambunctious freshly adopted daughters. Grandpa Chung has a traditional medicine shop, let’s say Brooklyn’s Chinatown in Sunset Park just like in my tmnt au and Venus learns his trade and branches off from there, they hang out with the Tai Chi uncles and aunties on Sundays and then, oh no! purple dragons!

cue the City At War arc which would’ve worked wonderfully with the bay movies (as a little entree before krang comes back “stronger”), worth at least two extra movies, Bay could blow up as many luxury brand cars as his widdle hearty-wearty desires with them. ....shit that would have been so fucking cool.

anyway, blah blah, City At War adaptation, everyone’s fighting, shit’s getting confusing-- bam! turtle on turtle violence then reconciliation then sick-ass group hero shot and bad guys just getting shellshocked left’n right. turtle chaos. Leo and Raph absolutely mandatorily must get dunked on. it’s in my contract. donnie and mikey are fine. Venus won’t even fight Donnie too much on the science/’magic’ shit because she figured out where he keeps the pop tarts and just ‘cuz bay Donnie seems too chill and level-headed to get worked up about the whole “wuh bUt mAgiC hAs No sCieNtiFiC bAaAaAsiS baa baa baa” but probably asks why Venus collects so many discarded crystal rocks, “.. sometimes rock shiny, rock nice! most important... rock projectile weapon, hhgkh!!”

Mirage Comics

Original source, black and white

Nice stories, fun visually

Iconic moments

62 issues were published before the og creators passed true series to a different team

TLDR truly entertaining classics for comic fans

1987 cartoon

10 seasons

Created more iconic characters like Bebop and Rocksteady

Gave the turtles their colored bandanas

So fun, so so ridiculously funny this one is a guaranteed laugh every time

Fun voice acting

TLDR such an amusing cartoon if you want something that’ll have you cackling

1990 movies

Darker than the cartoon, but still family-friendly

Fun action, funny comedy

The films slowly go down in quality but they’re all pretty fun

Three films

TLDR iconic part of the franchise that balances a dark and light tone

Urban Legends comics

The grittiest tmnt comic series

Characters lose limbs and turn into cyborgs, etc.

Series was discontinued, but IDW recently brought it back and the story was complete

TLDR good for comic fans who love gritty comics

Next Mutation show

One season, live action

Introduced Venus de Milo, the female turtle

The writing is meh but overall keeps you entertained

Has the famous Raph vs Leo scene

15-year old animation still holds up

TLDR very fun, has an iconic scene, good for Raph fans

Is currently on issue 136 at the time of this post, longest-running tmnt comic series

Covers a vast variety of characters, villains, and genres

Each turtle gets the spotlight

Standout arc has to be City Fall, with Dark Leo

Added Jennika to the roster a few years ago (she’s the female turtle with the yellow bandana)

TLDR excellent storyline, a lot of reading but honestly you can pick and choose where you want to jump in

A good compiling of all the tmnt media that came before

Has moments that are dark and serious, but also has a nice humor side

Has problematic ships

TLDR well-rounded action, drama, comedy and summation of tmnt lore with its own twists

Produced by Michael Bay, very Transformers-esque

Entertaining if you like action movies

Leo kinda sucks tho lol

Raph is the oldest and leader, instead of Leo

the hate on rottmnt really amuses me because this isn’t the first time a tmnt series has gotten hate from tmnt “purists” because it’s “too different”.

no really. the 2003 series had haters when it came out. especially because of the utrom shredder thing. people complained that it wasn’t the 1987 series.

the 2012 series had haters. people complained that it wasn’t the 2003 series. they didn’t like teenage april, how silly the boys are, maybe the animation looked uncanny to them or something idk.

(lol i remember being 11 and feeling so alienated by the 2003 fans for enjoying the 2012 series)

the idw comics had haters. gosh, especially with jennika’s mutation.

i haven’t seen a whole lot of 2007’s criticisms but they are there too.

the bay movies had haters. the boys were too tall, megan fox april, michael bay was involved, etc etc

and now the rise series has haters because it’s not the 2012 series. leo’s not leader, april’s too loud or something, they’re too nice to each other idk

it’s just so funny to me. like wow how dare this new tmnt continuity be ORIGINAL and DIFFERENT.

and now there are people complaining about the concept art for the 2023 movie, and it hasn’t even come out yet.

to be completely honest, why wouldn’t you want something new? every version of tmnt has a special charm to it that the others just don’t have, and i love that. so why can’t we lay down our biases and just enjoy something new?

and i’m not saying let go of your critical thinking. you’re allowed to have issues with something. but don’t take everything at face value when there’s so much more under the surface.

like to be completely honest, the 90s live action movies don’t look super great to me, but that doesn’t mean i won’t give it a chance. i’ve heard that the fight scenes are fun and that there are some funny gags, and once i get the chance to watch them, i’ll be looking out for that.

Because of course I can’t focus on one hyperfixation at once, here’s a bit of planning I have for a TMNT work project I have going on

(Jen and Vee are Jennika and Venus)

Figuring out the basic premise and so far I’m taking factors from awesome fanart I find, ROTTMNT, 2007 TMNT and 2012/Nick Turts to expand upon.

Not sure if I’ll make anything of what I draw but I’ll update whatever I can

(Also just a little personal opinion note, I wasn’t that huge a fan of the Bay Turtles because of the off character types and somewhat even more off-putting moistness ((Mikey and April didn’t really help 💀)) but I’m warming up to those guys thanks to the fandom)

Leonardo(2007)-he was too high and mighty and just overall a poor leader and brother for the most part. Imagine having the nads to be leader of a vigilante group, friends with a former vigilante and telling another vigilante they dont have a right to do what they’re doing; seriously?

Rapheal(Bay films)-he’s genuinely unlikable and really just represents everything Michael Bay seems to think an action movie character should be; im a merciless, tough guy jerk but that’s all ok cause im still the “good guy”.

Donatello(Rise)-as much as I love rise as a series, this donetello, while creative in his over the top techie portrayal, is also the hardest version to sit through watching because he is portrayed just so consistently obnoxious, arrogant and close minded. I mean can u imagine any other version of the character actually inventing gadgets to nerf his own brothers.

Michalengelo(2012)-this just feels like the most annoyingly immature, naïve and childish version and could get annoying to watch for too long. Also, not as much an issue of the character himself but I think at this point im just kinda burnt out on Greg Cipes characters, cause they all just seem the same now.

Splinter(2012)-this version just felt too strict and detached for me to really like, and as i prefer the yoshi’s pet rat origin for splinter, I don’t feel much for the mutated Yoshi version.

April O’neil(2012)-nothing really bad other than I just simply didn’t really get much enjoyment from this version.

Casey Jones(2012)-I really hate this version, he doesn’t match the typical character and I just found him really annoying.

Shredder(80s)-he was good for the series and time he was out but as versions of shredder grew and developed more over the years, this one just became more of a joke, even clearer so when he crossed over into the 03 and 2012 series’. The 2012 version was close to getting this spot purely on the level of pettiness that defined the character.

Foot clan(1990)-originally was considering the 80’s cartoon version of junk robots but they went with the time/tone but this version just seemed like less a threat when u realized they were just a gang of impressionable runaway teens instead of an actual ninja clan.

Karai(Bay Films)-this was just a waste of her character who contributed nothing to either movie; she was jbetter off just being a generic goon

Baxter Stockman(rise)-again, as much as I love rise and the things it did different, baxter stockboy just did not land or come out great. There might have been hope if we’d seen him more to be built up more but as of now, yeah he is the weakest version.

Jennika(IDW)-I just really don’t like this character, her role and especially her becoming a new member of the turtles. Unfortunately my dislike is exacerbated by how much she is overhyped many in the fandom.

No clue what’s going on in the Big TMNT Crossover Thing, but I’d like to suggest that somewhere, Mei/Venus and Jennika are hanging out in some interdimensional Chinese restaurant, drinking tea and pointedly avoiding whatever the heck is going on with the boys. No real reason, I just think it’s neat.

Eventually the RP will get copied and put on AO3 and it's possible we'll just keep going. It's gone from Michelangelo Therapy Shenanigans that were consulted to help with a plotline to whatever the heck we've been doing. Bay Mikey is riding Rise Nubbins The Giant Cat into the Bay Lair and he convinced her with a telepathic connection that he only just figured out. There's very little planning. Interdimensional Restaurants that feature interdimensional televisions are now a thing.

Actually it's even more awesome to think about because the franchise has one of the largest multiverses around anyway.

ok so i’m a normal amount of normal about this. absolutely.

i am also unattended and so my actions will prove why that is probably not great.

anyway, i love monikers, nom de plumes, sobriquets, y’know, pseudonyms if you will, code names even. 8D y’wanna know how I came up with them??????//?

okay okay okay, so! I will (until someone comes for me, but no one will ‘cuz y’all are cowards, I say, knowing my childhood nostalgia is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in my affection for Next Mutation but also i love camp) acknowledge and self-impose the title of Next Mutation trash lover as a disclaimer for why I’m gonna do another quick run down of Venus’ origin again. but a quick skim because a bitch is losing against her insomnia demon rn.

now, a lot of the kids know that Venus = magic, in general. however, at least to me, intentionally or not Venus was more portrayed like a daoist... ‘magician’ of sorts, but less in a real world daoist sense and more of a cultivator in the xianxia genre sort of way. granted she wears the taijitu (yin yang symbol) and literally showed the boys her box of herbal medicine (and one dessicated vampire heart lololol). and now that I mentioned all of that, I can segue into why I gave her “White Snake” as a code name-- in that I chose it after Bai Suzhen/Bai Shejing which now that my insomnia riddled mind is typing it out... my reasoning is actually pretty shallow, they both cultivate technically speaking, both work with herbal medicine and they just wanna help people. also just ‘cuz IDW has Venus wearing white now.

then just asked tychou for what they’d think Mona Lisa’s code name’d be for as much as Venus and Jennika are my girls, Mona Lisa’s tychou’s.

Following 2007 and Rise Splinter’s example, Bay Splinter absolutely watches soaps, teleseryes, telenovelas, and dramas and Venus watches some with him

Casey taught them how to make their own skates, so now the entire sewer is an impromptu skating rink

... I forgot that Leo, Donnie and Mikey’s shoes actually match (as much as they could make their custom frankenshoes match-- Mikey’s is like 98% duct tape and bandage wraps tbh; “But they’re still chucks underneath...!”) I just subconsciously went Punky Brewster on her shoewear. problem is I like both. so. nyeh.

have I settled on the size of her tesse--- hahahahhahahhahhahhha no.

in a brighter timeline, if they did a 3rd movie or just put both scrotes in and pumped out TMNT movies like they have Transformers movies I’d guess Venus, Jennika, Slash, Tokka, Rahzar, whoever were probably whatchamacallit, experimental groups to Splinter & Co.’s ....control group? subjects from different experiments with the ooze before April’s dad went whistleblower. or maybe experiments from the 15 year interval trying to recreate the first lab’s results ‘cuz Sacks would’ve had the resources to recommence pretty fast after the disaster

although to explain Venus and Jennika... since Sacks had ties to the Foot Clan, and Shredder pulled that double cross with Baxter in OotS. what I would guess is that Sacks pulled whatever weight he had left with the Foot Clan (maybe with Karai at the helm in Shredder’s absence) to use their resources for any gaps with his own and as a cover to reconvene his experiments. blah blah Karai studied under Shredder obvi and so probably thought to have the scientists report to her before they report to Sacks. Sacks was kept in the dark, not told they were more or less able to recreate the original lab results on the turtles who’d become Venus’n Jennika. “oh oops they died sacks, sux 4 u try again maybe, here’s some more animals for you.”

Venus and Jennika are taken in under the Foot once they exhibit the same potential the boys showed; Sacks just goes a little apeshit on the science, as a treat, hence Slash, and then Tokka’n Rahzar and again told they failed. Sacks fully thinks he couldn’t recreate the first lab’s results womp womp u bitch

....how would any of them break out from under the Foot? lol i dunno. uh. mmmmmaybe black market “weapons” dealing-- Venus and Jennika break out (willingly or opportunistically) during shipment to... where? nyc why thefuck not, oh look they end up in chinatown *eyebrow waggle* oh now they’ve stumbled upon a grandpa, maybe his name is Grandpa Chung in the community, I don’t know, and he adopts them surprise! is he blind and therefore just thinks they’re lost kids? blech, does he see two turtles and see an auspicious omen? ehhh hmmm..... I guuuuesssss? or is he just gonna be an example of people doing good things with no prompting because it’s the right fuckin’ thing to do, they’re obviously kids with no guardians, and goddamn we know it’s for the plot but also people are just out here being good to each other guys, it’s real, it happens.
