In shades of red, black, and gray, this quilt began its journey as a Bargello design, but alas, fate had other plans. Faced with unexpected challenges along the way, I found myself unraveling the original pattern in a moment of frustration. However, from the ashes of disappointment emerged a new vision as I carefully cut the quilt into blocks and meticulously reassembled them.
And if you look closely, nestled in the lower left corner, you'll find a subtle homage to our storied voyages—a miniature depiction of the legendary USS Enterprise, a symbol of exploration and adventure in the boundless expanse of space. In this unexpected twist of creativity, the quilt not only tells a tale of perseverance but also serves as a reminder of the ever-present spirit of discovery that guides us on our cosmic odyssey.

Bargello quilt with over 1600 pieces. I love blues, purples, and pinks. I put a crushed velvet on the back, and it’s very soft and cuddly.

Dating to the mid 13th century, the Bargello housed the podesta, the highest magistrate of the Florence city council. In 1574, the Medici got rid of that position and put the police chief here. The building was used as a prison. The interior yard was even used to execute people until 1786, although the police didn't move out until 1859. Now it's a fantastic museum.

A teacher gift for the last year of elementary school. Our kiddo loved her teacher and her teacher loves rainbows.
Kiddo helped sew (it's a pretty simple strip-pieced pattern), which was important for her to do.

Giambologna (1529-1608) - Oceanus, marble
This is Giambologna's largest marble. It once crowned the fountain of the same name in the Boboli Gardens. In 1911 it was moved to the Bargello. The block for the figure arrived in Florence in 1571. It was carved in the following years in a workshop in the Palazzo Pitti.
