Big fan of the newest crop of Barbie mermaids!

Everybody is talking about the gorgeous Odile sculpt for good reason, but I wasn't truly desperate for these dolls until I noticed that they have the Belly Button body torso instead of the current standard Barbie torso like previous mermaids have! No idea how Angel Kent managed to bring this body back into rotation but I sure hope to see it on other dolls soon!

Initially I planned to just reroot her because her hair (while saran) was way too short and choppy for me, but I was too inspired by the beautiful sculpting of the tail and bra, which are so reminiscent of other iconic Barbie mermaid lines, to leave it at just that. Eventually I'll do all four of them like this, but I'm still waiting on the other Odile to ship and I have to find a replacement head for the green Millie because I hate the closed mouth Millie sculpt lol

Reroot was done with six different shades of saran hair mixed into multiple different blends in order to create a smooth gradient from purple to light pink

I hate the stiff, stubby pose of current standard Barbie arms so I dipped those in boiling water and reshaped them to have a more elegant pose lol

For her body I settled on painting over sections of her bra with watered down pearlescent acrylic to give them more of a shimmer effect, and drybrushed her tail with the same acrylic The sleeves are made from transparent vinyl in a similar style to the Barbie Mermaid Fantasy sleeves (moreso the prototypes) and lightly brushed with white pearlescent acrylic and ZM Shine Pearl to give them a more organic look- also made a fin extension with the same material just to make her look a little more 'deluxe' lol

I’m in my Barbie drawing era and had to draw some mermaids inspired by some of the mermaid Fairytopia dolls that came out with the first movie. They’re pastel color scheme is everything I wanted in mermaids. I didn’t want them to have 100% identical designs to each other like the dolls did. So I gave them the same base and added different crowns and accessories to them. As well as giving them slightly different hair curl patterns from each other too. I debated giving them different hair colors than the blonde that they all had but decided to stick with it. Just so when you first look at them they’re hopefully recognizable with their doll counterparts. ✨ I have this design in my S6 and I’m pretty sure I need to get a shirt or something with this drawing on it from there asap 🩷💛🩵

I'm glad that I was able to snag the purple haired odile mermaid when I did because omg those 2 have been like completely wiped on amazon. You can't even search for them anymore! It's extra weird since I NEVER saw the pink haired one go down for under $30 but got the purple haired one for $11 and I thought the she seemed way more popular.

Oh well, hopefully they'll be restocked in the summer and mattel will actually take note of the immense popularity of actually fun and pretty barbies.

hiii babesss !!!! a fewww very very exciting things happen since the last time we talked!!!! i have spontaneously had a sleepover with my cousins and it was one of the bestest nights of my life !!!! we slept in the TRAMPOLINE and i saw 6 SHOOTING STARS !!!!!! it was such a great night and i had looooots of fun . next … I GOT INTO MY DREAM HIGHSCHOOL , DREAM CLASS WITH MY BEST FRIEND !!!!!!!!!!!! they already made a groupchat even though school starts in SEPTEMBER…. they’re all quite terrifyingly annoying but im super grateful im in with my bff . aaaaaaaaaaaaaandddd IM DYEING MY HAIR RIGHT NOW !! im “trying” to put some pink highlights in my brunette hair …. might be a fail but worth trying!!!!!! going w mermaid barbie look ;))) alsosososos i got some cuuute bracelet charms and im gonna do a “prongs” bracelet so ill have MATCHING with my moony friend!!! life has been quite great these days , and it’s wednesday…fav day of the week :)) so , im wishing you aaaalll a super fantastic day , loooove everywhere!!!
