Maddie looked in the mirror, attempting to gather her hair into a messy ponytail before heading downstairs to the kitchen.
Tonight, she was baking with Felix.
She spotted Lila in the reflection, laying on her bed and scrolling through her phone. The younger must’ve felt her gaze because she looked up, the girls smiling at each other with a small giggle.
“Hey, bestie…”
Lila sat up, looking thoughtful as Maddie started wrapping her hair into a hair tie.
“Yeah?”
“What exactly does the eye color mean… in incubi? Has Bam ever told you?”
Since they’d started their jobs as managers, Maddie had always ended up talking to BamBam a lot more than Lila; she wasn’t sure why, he just always seemed to call her first.
“You mean like the purple?” Maddie asked, feeling slightly confused, adjusting her hair a bit. “I mean, I think it just uh… means they're horny. Right? Or hungry? Is that the same for them-?”
“No, I mean-”
Lila laughed a little, and Maddie turned around, curious.
“I just noticed Chan’s eyes like… change color sometimes.”
“To what?”
“Blue and red.”
Maddie’s eyebrows rose in slight surprise, and she thought back to all the others, wondering if she’d ever seen anything like that.
“Weird,” she replied, Lila nodding in silent agreement. “When did you see it?”
“I’ve seen the blue off and on for a little bit,” Lila admitted, shifting on the bed. “It’s only for a second or two, sometimes it stays, but it’s this really bright blue. Like electric blue-”
“Cool,” Maddie remarked with a grin.
“Yeah,” Lila was nodding again before continuing. “And then the red…”
She hesitated.
“I only saw it once, and it was when Minho made that comment about scheduling some time for me to help him feed.”
Maddie cringed slightly; she remembered how tense the room had gotten, when Chan snapped like he had, she and Changbin even looking at one another with slightly raised eyebrows.
It was very out of character for the man to be snippy like that.
“Yikes.”
“I know,” Lila looked slightly worried. “But it’s weird because I think he’s angry or upset, but then he seems completely normal, like, five minutes later.”
“Yeah,” Maddie agreed. “You’re totally right.”
It was true, because even after that tense moment during their meeting last week, Chan had been fine just a few moments after, as if nothing had happened at all.
To be honest, the leader had always been very good at keeping his composure, so Maddie couldn’t say she was surprised, however she wondered…
What did the different eye colors mean?
She took out her phone, Lila watching her as she pulled up Google.
“Maybe we should look it up-”
But then her text tone went off- a meowing cat, making both girls jump- and she smiled automatically at the message that’d come in from Jeongin.

She giggled under her breath- he was so cute sometimes, with his inexperience- and Maddie looked up just in time to see Lila smirking, raising one inquisitive eyebrow.
“Who’s that?” she teased.
“Jeongin,” she admitted, feeling slightly embarrassed.
Lila looked as if she’d already known, just needed the confirmation.
“You guys have been spending a lot of alone time together,” she singsonged, still grinning.
Maddie sighed, unable to help the smile on her face, knowing this wasn’t the first time Lila was going to point this out and it wouldn’t be the last.
“He’s just… nice,” she replied with a semi-shrug. “And I like hanging out with him.”
She wasn’t lying- Jeongin was nice and she did like hanging out with him- but she knew that wasn’t what Lila was asking or implying-
“And you’ve been spending a lot of alone time with Hyunjin, too.”
Maddie sighed again, this time much more embarrassed, shaking her head quickly.
“It’s just good stress relief, okay?”
But even as she said this, she wondered if that was the only reason she found herself so very often alone with Hyunjin-
“Stress relief,” Lila repeated, nodding dramatically. “Uh huh-”
Maddie laughed loudly, knowing her best friend was totally messing with her, pointing an accusatory finger at the girl-
“What about you, huh?” she snapped back. “How are cozy times with Channie?”
But she realized quickly that if she was looking to embarrass Lila, that wasn’t going to work, because all the younger did was shrug, smiling pleasantly right back.
“They’ve been sexy and perfect, thanks for asking.”
The two girls snorted with laughter at that, and Maddie glanced at her phone again, jumping when she saw the time.
“Ah shit, I need to go downstairs and meet up with Felix.”
“Aww, I bet you guys are going to have so much fun,” Lila said brightly. “You’ll have to bring me lots of cookies, okay?”
“I totally will,” Maddie assured her. “Do you want me to look up that eye color thing before I go-?”
“Nah,” Lila waved it off, like she was trying to be nonchalant. “We’ll find out about it later. Go bake with Felix.”
Maddie nodded, giving the girl a quick wave and adjusting her messy ponytail before leaving the room.
She walked quickly down the hallway towards the kitchen, opening the text conversation with Jeongin and typing back.
She locked her phone, looking up when-
“Boo!”
Maddie yelped, slapping her palm to her mouth as she felt two hands she knew very well grabbing her sides, making her jump.
“Holy-”
She whirled around, almost losing her balance and falling into the wall behind her as she glared up at the man.
“Hyunjin!”
He was laughing loudly, clearly pleased with himself, eyes disappearing as he pointed at her.
“Your face-”
She growled under her breath, but his laughter was too much, and she was giggling as well before she could stop it. Still, Maddie rolled her eyes with a shake of her head, stuffing her phone into her pocket and putting her hands on her hips.
“Is there a reason you snuck up on me like that, or-?”
Hyunjin was still chuckling, softly now as he raised an eyebrow at her fake exasperation.
“Did I scare you?”
His eyes flashed purple, smile turning into a smirk, and she swallowed hard, already feeling a little hot-
He took a couple steps forward, Maddie stepping back automatically, her body hitting the wall gently as she was reminded once again, how supernaturally beautiful Hyunjin really was.
“Pft-” she rolled her eyes again, dramatically so. “No-”
Hyunjin laughed at that, his hand suddenly coming to rest upon the wall right beside her, body even closer to her own.
Her heart was racing in her chest and she tried to convince herself it was from Hyunjin sneaking up on her and not just him, his head tilting slightly like it so often did-
“I know I make you nervous…” he said quietly, voice like butter.
He was trying to get to her- Hyunjin seemed to love the effect he had on Maddie- but she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction, even as she felt the tingly buzz that always lingered in the air when they were this close-
“No, you make me annoyed,” she snapped, trying her best to sound irritated. “What do you want?”
But the act wasn’t working, Hyunjin still grinning like he knew better; like he knew her heart was now pounding so loud, it was echoing in her ears, and her fingers were twitching against her sides, fighting this weird innate urge in her to touch him-
“I just…” he hesitated, looking around. “Had a rough day.”
A shock of heat ran through Maddie’s body at those words because she knew what that meant; what Hyunjin was about to ask for…
Not that she didn’t already suspect; why else would he show up unannounced like this?
“Is that all I’m good for anymore?”
She was teasing, watching him mess with the thin strappy necklace he was wearing, her eyes following the movement.
But his gaze met hers at the question.
“Yeah,” he said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Why else would I be talking to you?”
Maddie scoffed loudly, shoving his arm as he laughed again, ignoring the fluttery sensation beneath her fingertips when she touched his skin-
To be honest, she wasn’t sure if his answer was a joke or not, but she looked at him as his smile faded ever so slightly, like there was something on his mind.
“So…” Maddie began, eyes darting across his handsome face. “What happened?”
He shrugged, taking his hand from the wall only to lean his whole arm against it instead.
“I messed up this painting I was working on this morning, like I had to scrap the whole thing,” he ran a hand through his blonde hair, pushing it out of his eyes. “Then I had fried rice for lunch and they put veggies in, even when I asked for it without-”
“You should really eat vegetables, Hyunjin, they’re good for you-”
“-and at practice today-” he spoke a little louder, talking over her. “-I kept messing up that spin move I’ve been working on…”
Another dance move he couldn’t perfect in one four hour practice day.
Maddie almost wanted to tease him; to roll her eyes and ask if he thought he was being a little unrealistic with his expectations, thinking he could master a dance move in such a short amount of time.
But something told her not to.
She remembered just a couple days ago, when the two of them were laying in his bed together after yet another hook up.
It’d been longer than usual- more kissing and touching, Maddie too caught up in the moment to notice until after- and as they’d laid there in that all-too-familiar sated haze, Hyunjin had gotten out his phone, showing her a few videos of the exact spin move he was talking about.
He’d replayed it again and again, pointing out the footwork, the way the man’s arms twisted as he went up, talking more than he ever normally did about anything.
Maddie remembered thinking he was kind of adorable, charmed by his talkativeness and the way he’d explain to her what he’d have to do- how they could use it in their next choreography, and how he was thinking about showing it to Minho-
So, she knew it probably was a rough day for him, being that excited only to not pull it off as quickly as he’d been expecting, and for now, Maddie thought she’d keep her teasing to a minimum.
“I just thought, maybe…”
Hyunjin interrupted her train of thought when he started reaching forward, fingers dusting across her face to tuck her hair behind her ear. Maddie’s eyelids fluttered automatically at the feel of it, and she watched as the dark brown of his irises flashed purple once more-
“...if I got a little more energy…”
His hands left her face, palm now sliding down her side, stopping at the waistband of her leggings before his fingers were slipping just beneath her shirt, teasing the bare skin of her stomach-
“...I could take a car back up to the studio and keep practicing…”
Maddie didn’t have any control it seemed, her body lifting slightly off the wall and into his touch, Hyunjin’s fingers moving higher, the man swooping down to start kissing a line down her jaw.
She was sinking fast, sliding a bit on the wall, the incubus powers strong as always- hot and unforgiving in her veins- her head falling back as she inhaled sharply.
“Hyunjin-”
Her voice was embarrassingly weak as he took a step closer, fingers holding her waist now, pleasure curling like a tight knot in her lower stomach-
“-I can’t.”
He paused, and she didn’t realize her eyes were squeezed shut until she was prying them open, exhaling in a rush.
“Why not?”
Hyunjin’s voice was low, still teasing, a shiver running down her spine at the sound of it-
“Because, I-”
She struggled to speak, feeling another strong dose of incubus powers pass through her, knowing Hyunjin was totally doing that on purpose just to mess with her.
“-I’m supposed to be- baking. With Felix. Remember?”
Hyunjin stopped again, but this time, he loosened his grip, pulling back to look at her again, the purple in his eyes slowly flickering back to brown.
“Oh yeah,” he smiled softly, chuckling a little. “I forgot about that…”
His hand on her like that still left a certain flush to her skin, but Maddie could feel her body relaxing a bit as Hyunjin’s powers subsided.
“Yeah, so you know…” her voice was back to normal again, Maddie letting her head fall back against the wall as she looked at him. “I’m a little busy.”
Hyunjin’s hand slipped from underneath her shirt, and no matter how much she wished she didn’t miss it, she did, almost feeling cold-
“What are you guys making?” he asked, absentmindedly fixing the hem of her shirt, straightening the fabric before pulling away completely. “Brownies?”
“Snickerdoodles,” she replied. “My favorite.”
“Ha!” Hyunjin smiled- the genuine one she loved the most. “Mine, too.”
She chuckled, taking another deep breath, wondering why her heartbeat wasn’t getting any slower-
“You should take the night off, anyway,” she reasoned, raising her eyebrows at him. “Resting would probably be good for you.”
“Tch,” Hyunjin rolled his eyes. “I can practice as much as I want.”
“I never said you couldn’t,” she argued. “I’m just saying, rest is important-”
“Yeah, yeah,” Hyunjin was waving her words away. “Says the girl who sleeps four hours a night-”
“That is not true-”
“You’ve spent enough nights in my bed for me to know-”
“Ugh-”
Maddie was annoyed again- Hyunjin just always had to be right didn’t he?- watching that genuine smile go right back to his stupid, sexy, trademark smirk.
She looked away, trying not to grin because he was annoying her, but it was kind of funny for some reason, and the way his eyes shined with obvious amusement was making it hard for her to stay irritated-
Hyunjin surprised her when he swooped down, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek, leaving a burning sensation behind before speaking once more.
“Maybe, when you’re done…”
He trailed off, leaning forward to speak close to her ear, Maddie’s eyes slipping closed before she could help it.
“...you could bring me a cookie?”
And while his words were innocent, Hyunjin knew exactly what he was doing, back to his incubus self as goosebumps raced down her neck, her breath catching in her throat-
“Yeah, maybe-”
Her words were strained, but she kept her composure, swallowing around the need in her throat.
“-if I feel like it.”
And before she did anything stupid- like grab Hyunjin by his strappy necklace and kiss him full on the mouth- she pushed herself off the wall.
Walking away, she didn’t trust herself to even look over her shoulder, hearing Hyunjin’s soft chuckles behind her.
Heading down to the kitchen, Maddie fixed some pieces of her falling ponytail, trying to shake the lingering Hyunjin effects beneath her skin.
She swore; he had to be stronger than the others…
Right?
Maddie shook her head, smiling automatically when she saw Felix already in the kitchen, ingredients spread out across the counter.
“Hi Maddie!”
His smile was bright as he waved at her, before bending down to reach into some cabinets.
“Just getting all the supplies ready.”
“Hey!” she grinned right back, watching him straighten up with three mixing bowls as she stopped at the counter. “Ready to make a shit ton of Snickerdoodles?”
He laughed at that, motioning around at the eggs, sugar, flour, and other various items.
“We definitely have enough stuff…”
She giggled, moving past him to the fridge.
“I don’t have the aprons today like I wanted,” Felix said as if confessing something, sounding apologetic. “I washed them so they’d be ready for us, but Changbin never switched over the laundry-”
“Of course he didn’t.”
Maddie rolled her eyes with a small laugh as she opened the fridge; Changbin was the worst about laundry.
Felix chuckled, not commenting- she knew he had a soft spot for the man- and she could hear him opening one of the kitchen drawers.
“So we’ll have to go without.”
“It’ll be fine-” Maddie looked over her shoulder, eyes darting up and down his body. “Unless you’re really attached to your outfit.”
“These?”
Felix put the rubber spatula in his hand next to the measuring cups, pulling on his shirt.
“Nah - these are my baking clothes. They’re made for stains.”
They both laughed at that, Felix turning back to the drawer, Maddie looking at him for a moment.
He was a lot more handsome nowadays.
Not that Felix wasn’t handsome before- Maddie and Lila completely understood why so many of their fans went absolutely nuts for the man. He was good-looking, charming, sweet as could be, and one of those people you knew was just a good person.
But lately, Maddie had noticed Felix just seemed a little more… mature.
His hair was slightly damp from a shower, floppy on his forehead, so 90s boy band looking that Maddie felt slightly nostalgic. His no make-up skin was always the best to her- dark brown eyes, tons of freckles, a cute nose…
It was less shocking to Maddie that Felix was an incubus, when he was concentrated like this, eyebrows slightly furrowed, reading over the recipe he had sitting upon the counter. His jaw was more defined than it had been when she met him- when did that happen?- and he seemed just slightly… bigger.
The t-shirt he was wearing was white, old, and even ripped in some places, but it sat well on his shoulders, the slight tan of his skin more emphasized by the bright color. His sweatpants were simple- black and a little long on his legs- but they sat low on his hips, and when he would reach across the counter for something, she would notice his shirt riding up, showing just a sliver of skin-
What am I doing?!
Maddie quickly turned back to the fridge, squeezing her eyes shut before digging around on the shelves.
Hyunjin’s stupid incubus powers must still be lingering in her veins.
Finally finding what she was looking for, she grinned, taking out two, identical green bottles and quickly pulling back from the fridge.
When the door slammed, Felix turned around to look at her, eyes immediately jumping to her hands.
“Soju?” he asked with a grin.
“Yep!” Maddie replied cheerily, making her way back to the counter. “The only thing more fun than baking, is baking tipsy.”
Just yesterday when she and Lila had gone shopping for the week, she’d decided to pick up some drinks for their Snickerdoodle night. She knew the purpose of this was to help him cheer up a bit- maybe get him to open up about Lila or just his feelings in general.
Felix liked to lock everything inside, and was an overthinker to the max. Maddie thought- maybe if he had a few drinks and loosened up- even if he didn’t talk to her about anything at all, at least he was a little more relaxed.
And he could let go a bit.
She handed a bottle over to Felix, the man still smiling as he took it.
“Well…” he raised his eyebrows, rolling the drink in his hands. “I guess you’re not wrong.”
Maddie almost asked him if he was okay with it, but before she could, he was twisting the cap off his bottle, then nodding towards hers.
“Do you want me to open it for you?”
She chuckled- so chivalrous- keeping eye contact as she twisted the cap with a loud click.
“I think I can handle it.”
That made him laugh out loud, shaking his head as he raised the Soju above their mixing bowls.
“Okay then,” he said happily. “Cheers?”
Maddie giggled again, raising her glass and clinking it against his own.
“Cheers!”
She giggled under her breath- he was so cute sometimes, with his inexperience- and Maddie looked up just in time to see Lila smirking, raising one inquisitive eyebrow.
“Who’s that?” she teased.

“Cheers!”
