I appreciate how he may appear frightening and rude, yet he has a really kind heart and he's simply so pure when he talks about his interests! The only thing that bothers me about him is that he almost never acts when someone is in danger unless he is personally involved in the situation, but I can't entirely blame him because he is most likely terrified, so he minds his own business. That may not be particularly heroic of him, but it doesn't make him a bad person anyway.

Aside from that, it’s not his fault here but I’m convinced the writers have something against him because his routes are all less entertaining compared to the rest. Don’t get me wrong, I loved him in HDB, he hit different there and I understand that he can’t suddenly start being confident with the power of love, however it’s such a turn off how all his main game routes revolve around him feeling unloved, insecure and thinking that everyone hates him when it was proved IN EVERY ROUTE that everyone actually CARES about him and IS there for him. It’s like everything starts all over again for what?

I feel bad for Subaru but I also feel bad for Yui for having to reassure him each and every time that he matters, he’s beautiful, he’s not like his father, everyone loves him and so on. He’s really likeable to me but they sometimes do him way too dirty. ;w;

And don’t even get me started on why Christa was even included in his DF route. She seemed more normal in MB, whereas in DF she was straight up crazy and it didn’t even give her a proper redemption arc like they did with Cordelia.

Moreover, whoever wrote LE had beef with Subaru and you can’t tell me otherwise. Not only did the writer make him try to romance Yui in Kou’s route, which resulted in him being slapped by her —I mean, I understand Yui’s reaction because she loved Kou there, but it's still a trashy situation— but on top of getting rejected, he also, as far as I recall, accidently ended off his own mother?? 😭😭

Last but not least, I’m pretty sure every time Seiji appeared in LE in his brothers’ routes, Yui was like “Idc father, I’m siding with my man” on the spot but when it came to Subaru’s route, she actually debated which one to choose between him and her dad——? It’s obvious that Subaru is extremely dependent on her and he got such a low self-esteem, so why would you pull that on him out of all characters? It’s even worse when you remember his brute ending… (ಢ_ಢ)

I tried to make this quite detailed, keeping in mind that you stated missing reading something about him. As for my final thoughts, I doubt they'll make a new game, but if they do, I truly hope they will develop his character and his relationships with Yui, Kou, and his brothers better. Nonetheless, his tsuntsun side is adorable, and he's generally chill (well… when not enraged, lol). Bonus points for liking animals; I recall him telling the MMV cat, "Don't leave my side," which may sound dramatic, but l found that sweet~! xD

Post-prison Blues - Robert deals with his PTSD badly which engages Aaron's redemption arc; he stays by Robert's side and helps him through it

Reunion 3.0 / Seb's return - Robert gets access to Seb (he comes to some sort of agreement with Rebecca or something happens to her offscreen whatever) and seeing Rob and Seb (their son!!) together in the village destroys any willpower Aaron still had to fight against his feelings for Robert

Wedding 3.0 - this needs no explanation

Surrogacy 2.0 - i dont actually mind them going there again if only to get them their Sugden-Dingle daughter

The Return of Andy Sugden - everything is going well for Robert and Aaron but Andy's return shakes things up; the farmboy that Jack Sugden caught Robert with back in the day is working with Andy now; so we get jealousy and misunderstandings and high drama in the Still-Madly-In-Love-Husband front (because that's Aaron innit) and Robert finally tells Vic and Andy about what happened with his dad when he was young.

Teen Seb Comes to Stay - Seb decides he wants to live with his dads at the village permanently (rewashed Liv plot i know but im making it easy for them!!) there are issues with his little sister at first but they get quickly resolved. Seb and his auntie Eve become thick as thieves and become the village nightmares

The Return of Adam Barton - because Aaron needs his mate back at some point and I doubt Vic will settle with anyone else ever

Robron vs Caleb - this just seems like it would be fun idk. it could have something to do with Seb because he is just like his dads and finds trouble everywhere which Robert and Aaron always have to solve in the end

Robert vs Kim&Andy - at this point in my AU Andy is with Kim (romantically or as business partners idc) because it serves the purpose of killing two birds with one stone so that Robert can finally FINALLY win back Home Farm

Robert Sugden's Regression - being in charge of Home Farm ofc changes Robert a bit and he starts to become the thing he fears most: his father. Cue him pushing his children and Aaron to the breaking point until, in true soap-fashion, they break up again. The kids split too. Aaron takes their daughter and Seb stays with Robert. And this ofc leads to:

The Parent Trap: Robron Edition - Seb and his sister plot to get their dads back together through a series of funny shenanigans, but then one of them gets seriously hurt in an accident (they should watch out for those evil farm animals amirite? or was it another drunk driver? only the soap gods know) so all the progress they made crumbles. Aaron and Robert blame each other and seem broken up for good

The Biggest Mugs In The World - Aaron and Robert try to prove to themselves and their kids that they dont want anything to do with each other but every time Aaron sends Robert his divorce papers Robert 'misplaces them' until Aaron finds out Robert has been ripping them apart and chucking them into his fancy fireplace. They fight about Robert being a control freak and Aaron a jealous queen, because every person Robert has flirted with since they separated has ended up fleeing the village with their tail tucked between their legs (Aaron made sure of it). This goes on until they have angry make up sex and then hate themselves for it.

Reunion 4.0 - *PROBLEMATIC PLOT ALERT* Seb and Eve become romantically involved and try to hide it from their families (aunt and nephew fits the Dingle lore somehow lmao). When they are found out Robert goes apeshit and casts Seb out of the village (like his dad did to him once) but he and Seb are at The Layby and before Robert can make the biggest mistake of his life, the love of his life arrives just in time to stop him. Robert realizes what he has become and decides to leave Emmerdale himself (after all, he was always the disaster, the one unable to make anybody happy, he should have never comeback etc) but Aaron won't have it. They can't live without each other, and that fact has never been clearer than at that very moment (shot to a teary-eyed Seb behind Aaron). Robert begs for forgiveness and Aaron just scoffs because forgiving Robert is the easiest thing in the world. They had promised each other messed up forever, had they not?

The ending was rushed, horribley paced, had the worst redemption """"""arc"""""""""" in the entire series(yes I say redemption arcs look me dead in the eye and tell me the diamonds weren't redeemed), hideous fusion designs that broke the pre-established logic of fusion, and was some the most insufferable case of millenial writing I've seen. The only postive of the ending was that 10 seconds of james baxtet animation. It compounds all the criticisms people have held for Steven universe for years into a singular 40 minute episode and I'm glad it's considered embarrassing to like this show now. And in case anyone thinks I'm just a bitter 30 year old who was expecting too much from a children's show: I was 15 when the finale aired I was literally the prime demographic I thought it was shit then and I think its shit now”

I know I like just said a few days ago I was going to step back from controversial posts for a bit but something has kind of came to my attention I'd like to address

I'm going to start of with the fact that this is not a hate post so don't get all pissed off at me for this. I'm fine with people expressing there opinions maturely but if you're just going to argue like a child I will delete the replies/reblogs and block you if needed, I don't want to deal with the drama and arguing.

Sometimes I really think people forget Barty Crouch Jr played a very big role in Goblet of Fire.

He locked a man in a trunk for weeks, turned a 14 year old into a ferret (yes he totally deserved it but the man still didn't deserve to get traumatized), is one of the main reasons Cedric died (he created the portkey-), he showed kids unforgivable curses which definitely was a bit traumatic for some of them (and seemed to trigger some ptsd for Neville), helped torture Alice and Frank Longbottom (two very wonderful people) to insanity and caused Neville so much pain by doing so.

Apparently people are defending him because his dad kind of sucked. I'd like to politely point out his mother loved him so much that she traded places with him so he could get out of Azkaban. And what does he do? Oh right, he goes right back to his old ways. I mean you'd figure most reasonable people would take that as a second chance and a reason to change, but nope not him.

... And yet people defend him and push aside the fact he's done some pretty bad things. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for redemption arcs and such, but what redeemable qualities has this man ever showed? and yes I get that he wasn't always a wizard nazi, but it's mentioned in the seventh books that a group of people who become such were doing really terrible things around Hogwarts, and one harmed Mary pretty badly. Just imagine what he did to people during his time at Hogwarts. People don't become evil over night. And unlike a lot of the des out there, he didn't have an entire family supporting Voldemorts actions that drove him to do it, he did it on his own accord.

now, before anyone goes "Oh that never happened!" or "He'd never do that!" he's some proof:

I'm not even going to bother finding the parts where he scars kids for life just because he can. I think this speaks for itself.

and someone pointed out that yes, his dad was a fucking bastard but most characterss had terrible families. I can name so many other characters that went through a lot and didn't do things like this over it. the man even had the audacity to lie about doing a lot of it. yes he was young then, but even years upon years later he made no effort to change for the better. I can almost guarantee that if he would've genuinely changed, Crouch sr would not have done half of this stuff. Like do you really think most parents would willingly do that to their children? he knew if he didn't then they'd both end up getting in trouble (not saying he should've done it, just that he didn't do it for nothing, his own reputation aside he was probably worried his son would end up hurting people again).

I really don't understand how people can defend and love this character...

but whatever. idc. i dont like him but if you do then it's whatever. I'm not going to be directly rude to you if I don't like the same characters or ships as you so don't go thinking this is me being rude to people who do like him, that's not the case. I'm just explaining my thoughts on the subject.

I gotta be honest I was rooting for an Izzy redemption arc. as fun and funny as a villain breakdown would've been, I always leaned towards "Izzy gets better." I think the best show of all time is The Good Place, of course that's how I feel. the thesis of that show is: “people improve when they get external love and support. how can we hold it against them, when they don’t?” Izzy finding himself and community should be great.

The problem is they didn't fucking bother to write the damn thing.

Idc about how dinghies are portals in this show. or why Anne and Mary were on this random island Ed was dropped off at. or how Buttons knows what country a "wee black dot" is from. or how Ed and Stede have magical healing abilities. because none of those things fuck with the internal logic of the characters. but Izzy's sudden behavior does fuck with the character writing!!! they fucking replaced him!!! they replaced my little garbage rat man with a new guy and thought I wouldn't notice!! I feel like my dog died while I was off at sleep-away camp and my parents got me a new dog and thought I wouldn't be able to tell!! this isn't my scrungy little bastard! it's a different guy!!!

And it's not like I'm opposed to s2 Izzy, just, in general. I'd be fine if he logically got here! Izzy crying when receiving a gift from the crew should be a big deal but it isn't because I still don't know why they bothered to make it. I've literally read fics where Izzy getting gifts gave me a bigger emotional reaction because the writer bothered to write how Izzy softened up a bit. Izzy confessing his love for Ed should be a big deal but I don't fucking know how he realized it!!!

Part of me is hoping/wishing for some kind of flashback later on. We've all caught that there's a shot in the trailer from the kraken era that hasn't happened yet. But I really don't think we will. I think the writers were happy to just give us this imperfect Izzy clone that's similar enough to feel like the same guy, more or less, but is very clearly different.

Our Flag feels like fanfic in a lot of ways. The anachronisms, several of the plot points, the way characters speak with 21st century slang. And that's fine! It's funny! It's whatever! But I don't want it to feel like fanfic, when "feeling like fanfic" means "replacing a character with a different guy."

It didn't bother me one ounce when they gave up on explaining how Stede got everyone to the republic of pirates. That's not character writing. But when you give up on character writing? Man, that hurts. It's not good. You can't make giving up on character writing good.

Ted Lasso 3x07 Thoughts and Feelings

The episodes just keep getting better, like the emotions people, the emotions.

I do truly believe that Keeley is making a poor decision in her romantic life atm.

Jack is great and all but... this isn’t going to end well I can feel it.

I mean... I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard at anything else this show has ever done.

But they really didn’t ask any questions until they were all on the pitch with their dicks tied together?

Anyways, it was hilarious, idc.

All the total football was tbh. Yes, the puke did make me almost stop watching the episode. But I got through it. (I know, I must be the strongest person on planet earth for that.)

First off, Simi is amazing, and I love her

Second, if I ever have to see Sam Obisanya cry like that ever again, I will pause time, halt the earth's rotation, and kill whoever made him feel like that. And it will hurt.

I have a lot of thoughts about Sam’s storyline this episode but I’m hardly a good enough writer to put them into words.

Trent Crimm would combust instantly if he walked through a door without dramatically catching it first.

Ironically, the episode that turned me into even more of a Ted/Trent liker is the episode where Ted states out loud that he is a straight man.   (i don’t believe that big guy)

In my bullet points on the episode, I have lovingly called Nate’s arc, “Nate the Great gets a Date” and that’s beautiful, I think.

I must digress that when he dropped the box I did say out loud “damn, this guy can’t win can he?”

Hello Denise, I read your tags and I want to ask you what do you think about how they ended Jaime’s arc in GOT? 👀

dude....... it was SO disappointing. i literally don't know how they could just disrespect their own work like that. so much build up... actors that genuinely love their characters, have fantastic chemistry with each other, and want to explore that storyline.... and for what? to throw it all in the trash? what was it all for then? why did they waste all that time? his relationships and character are both so endlessly fascinating, and they just... made them so superficial.

and it's like. yeah. abusive relationships are like that. you say no, fuck you, i'm through with this, and then you find yourself going back and paying the price for that. i get that. and the show certainly was never going to live up to the books, i definitely know that, too, but. but. :( it's just... brienne is jaime's turning point. meeting her is what creates him. he's no longer cersei's mirror image, a man of her own creation, someone that she only likes so long as he resembles her, but... jaime. a person. someone capable of doing what's right. someone with a voice. someone with the strength to say no when cersei calls.

and they just.. they let him do that for a bit. and then!! they just!! took it away!! they made him go back!!! FOR WHAT!!!!!!! THE CREATION OF JAIME FOR WHAT!!!!!! WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR!!!!! TO DIE?! FOR WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT NARRATIVE PURPOSE DID IT HAVE? DID HE NOT WANT TO FIGHT FOR THE LIVING?! sigh. jaime's story could be one of failed redemption. or it could not be. and while they may have intended for it to be the former in the show, it just didn't land. it didn't feel right or earned—it just felt cheap and disappointing. especially with that line about the people. like. i just. even ignoring the blatant jaime n brienne soulmateisms that they disregarded i jsut. no. no!!!!!! i'm plucking my hair out one by one jus remembering this i just . I Did Not Like What They Did To My Boy...... I Did Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they spent so much time on his redemption and if they wanted to end it in tragedy, then they should've allotted the same amount of care for that plot point, too. preferably without taking a big fat shit on everything that makes jaime jaime.

Drag me down definitely is Coach's perspective towars their relationship, while Tongues and Teeth could be Loboto's one!

i'm kind of obsessed with how the dynamic is weird bc theyre at such different places at the beginnning of PN2...it could set up suuuuch a good arc idc and what u said breaks it down perfectly. like morry was at a point where he wants to move on to bigger and better things after healing from the things that were holding him down in the past. but the things he connected with cal through, and the lyrics are expressing not wanting to be around somebody anymore... which like i can see that morry's whole big next arc is moving on from the ways he used to keep himself down with those self-fulfilling prophecies about something being wrong with him. but he can't deny that he felt a real connection during his time doing evil things with caligosto....for the sake of evil love!!!!! he is reformed but he isn't like the most morally good person of all time either. but he just doesn't know mentally where loboto is anymore...

and where he is is in a state of accepting a lot of weird things about himself. like the encounter in the rhombus with raz helped him work through his past, at the very least get out of the state of lucidity and remember the things that happened to him. and now being free from the shackles of his boss, he is realizing that he doesn't want to hurt other people the way that people hurt him. again, also not the most morally good person still but not an evil guy anymore he wants to be love now. but like the lyrics of that song seem to cover a lot, he knows there are so many things that he's done wrong that people would have to get past to see him as worthy of love. really, both of them want similar things, but have been set about on very different types of redemption arcs.

listen i hate the irminsul plot line and how everybody forgot scara too,, i was desperate for ei and miko to reunite with scara and also to see childe and kazuha interacting with him

completely ignoring the knowledge tree bullshit, scara was a good person. before his third betrayal, scaramouche was a kind guy. i don't blame neither ei nor scara but he had every right to feel betrayed by ei after she let him go without any explanation.

yes i would have preffered scara to have his redemption arc after at least talking to ei and learning her thought process but thats besides the point

scara found out how the other two betrayals were dottore's doing and his defeat was pretty harsh so no wonder the guy started rethinking his life and decisions.

no it was not sudden or rushed bc lemme say it again: scara was a good person. he was not born evil, he turned evil after all the shitty stuff that happened to him.

and he's still not a good person lmao he's still an ass but less dangerous and evil

after i finished the 3.3 archon quest, i audibly said "this was the best archon quest ever made" and i still stand by what i said

Endeavor: Ugly man. Disgusting. Almost worse in my mind than Cassius Sencen. Worse than him. You treat your kids like crap??? You treat your children like weapons in front of me??? Then I will never forgive you, and your kids whose lives you ruined after you gave them intense psychological trauma shouldn't have to either. Screw off, and screw yourself, idiot. I mean *cough* I don't much care for him. I also hate the "redemption" arc he's getting. Like, firstly, why did it take so long for him to have this change of heart. Why did it take like, his wife going insane, his son going insane, his other son being abused for years, the rest of his children being neglected for years, and then being faced with his insane eldest son who he high-key thought was dead to start this redemption arc? Like, i get that sometimes people are thick-headed, but this felt wrong. Moreover, I don't mind a redemption arc when it's done well, but Endeavor's has happened too quickly, and it's too forced to feel real. His change of heart feels shoved in there like a "Time for Shoto to feel bad about hating his father!!!" kind of thing, which is always bad. Like, seriously. His dad verbally, emotionally, and physically abused him for years, very actively, and made him have major trauma from that, and now that Endeavor's like "uwu im sowwy" Shoto feels awful because for a long time, the only way he's been able to deal with Endeavor's crap is to pretend like his father doesn't care about him, doesn't want what's best for him, doesn't want his approval or forgiveness. And when Endeavor wants approval and forgiveness(like a lil' bish), Shoto feels awful because, what's he supposed to do? He's built up this persona in his head of who his father is out of self preservation, and his father wrecks that, and acts all wounded and hurt whenever someone insults or hurts him. It's just... shady. And gross, imho. Like, idc. Maybe other people have different opinions on the whole arc. I just really do not vibe. Like, sir. Leave your children alone. If you feel bad for what you did, give them time, space, actual apologies, and freedom. Don't. Force them. To be around you. Like. Come on. I don't care that you're having feelings about not being around them. But guess what they don't want to be around you anymore. Ok, except for maybe Fuyumi, but she can deal with it. Your children who you've excessively traumatized are not validators for your emotions. Get out of here. Goodbye.

Rei: I don't like her all that much as a character. But I know she's been through a lot, and I can understand her actions. She's fine. Not the best mom, not the worst. Nyeh.

Touya: Oh man. Oh man. Oh man. Oldest child is a golden child-to-invisible child pipeline. Oldest child starts out as a perfect and powerful creation. Oldest child finds out his power isn't what his dad wants. Oldest child trains and tries and tries and tries to make himself into what his dad wants. Oldest child ruins himself for parental approval. Oldest child puts entire life in the hands of someone who doesn't care about him. Oldest child realizes he will never be as "loved" as his littlest brother. Oldest child stops getting noticed, except in bad things. Oldest child realizes that he never meant anything, he's never going to be anything, and he will never be loved by his family. Oldest child is in severe mental and emotional distress. Oldest child fakes his death and runs away. Oldest child spends the rest of his life trying to make his father suffer for the way he was treated. Oldest child... has a point. Oldest child murders tons of people violently. Oldest child needs therapy. And possibly some jail time.

Fuyumi: Older sister trauma but is coping by making other kids' lives better than hers was. Just wants everyone to be okay. Aaah. Stop being relatable. Also, just. Side with your siblings, love. It'll make you feel better about your choices in the long run.

Natsuo: LET. THE KID. BE ANGRY. He was cheated out of a happy childhood, watched his siblings get emotionally and physically abused, and he's angry now. And that's completely valid. Like, this character is just completely valid. Heck yeah, insult your dad to his face. Your father hasn't earned your respect and he sure as heck cannot expect it. Moreover, I feel like Natsuo is just generally annoyed with everyone. He's annoyed because Shoto doesn't know how to use slang, he's annoyed because Fuyumi's too nice, he's annoyed because his mom went insane, he's annoyed because Toya's sort of kind of dead, he's annoyed. Let the kid be angry. He needs therapy, but he's doing okay.

Shoto: Oh. This kid has been really hurt. But hey, he's gonna be a hero, and he's doing his best. Like, honestly, I don't think there's much more that we can ask of this kid, just like I don't think there's much more we can ask of Izuku before both of them become vigilantes and join the LOV out of spite and pain. Like, yeah. Todoroki Shoto is a piece of work, but he is doing his gosh diddly darn best. And it's very inspiring, honestly, if an anime character can be inspiring. Like all the crap he's been through? Being pushed to be a hero since the day he ws born? Decides to be a hero anyways, but decides to be the kind of hero that makes people feel safe. Told he's going to be more powerful than All Might? Works at it crazy hard, isn't afraid to have(mostly) healthy rivalries with his classmates. Neglected and never had any real friends or contact with actual humans? Has a ton of friends now, whether he wants them or not, and is a king at cracking deadpan jokes, whether he thinks they're funny or not. Like, this boy. He's doing so much. I'm so proud of him, honestly. Like, I think he's got some internalized trauma, especially about how much of what he went through can be blamed on him, but like, really, this 15 year old super hero trainee is doing really well for what he's had to go through. I'm honestly like so proud of this kid.

BLACK DRAGONS CHRISTMAS MURDER ARC

i think ive talked abt this b4 but it just has so much stuff i like in it. its my favorite in terms of storytelling i'm not deep i like easily recognizable gimmicks for babies idc. theres a bunch of reasons i like it so:

the kisaki-hanma-chifuyu-takemichi teamup i love their begrudging cooperation and their hostility...i miss them every day... when will C4U/KillemAll/The Hanmas come back from the war... i see them in every group of 4... the wiggles, teletubbies, tmnt... it was a team born to die but what a beautiful birth...

i think the tenuous dynamics between the gangs at the time was fun the suspense was good. baji just died, kisaki and hanma still in toman, black dragons about to go warring with everyone, no one likes each other it was a great spawning ground for drama

yuzuha was one of my favorite main characters of the arc... no one else understands this... her sigma philosphy of killing taiju. i talked about this more in an older ask but in summary: i like the “inescapable violence” theme in the christmas arc. yuzuha kills taiju to protect hakkai, hakkai takes the blame to protect yuzuha and becomes BD leader to end up just as corrupt as taiju, cycle of doom. neither yuzuha and hakkai had any bad intention they had the same ‘desire to protect, to do good’ that got pushed to the point of doing bad things. even taiju seems to have his version of good will but theres just something up with that guy dawg.

i really wish they’d say smth abt yuzuha in the future of the manga bcz what is she even doing while her little brothers in the middle of the chaos but also the plot has expanded so much by now that unfortunately she probably won’t make another major appearance -_-

on the other side, taiju was my favorite antagonist, i never draw him but he has one of my favorite designs in the series even though every panel of his jumpscares you. takemichi saw him once and immediately started getting night terrors

going off on a tangent though, i'm... iffy about the 'redemption'. i like taiju but this is on the level of him being an imaginary dude with a big role in a story. the point of the story is that you dont like him, hes still a huge douchewagon... i don’t think the main cast (including hakkai) would still be cool with him even though its been 2 years it’s not something that just ‘gets better with time’. taiju didn’t even really say he was gonna be a better person (im pretty sure he said smth the opposite lmfao but i don;t remember well). in the timeskip, it could be interpreted that he did make an effort to improve given how seriously he took grieving hakkais death, but thats 10+ years after the affair, and even then it’s only an implication! that sketch of taiju with mana and luna never sat right with me why does mitsuya trust him sm all of a sudden...in my opinion they really didnt need him to return?? there are better candidates to nearly castrate sanzu for threatening takemichi, fight the living legends, etc. (what happened to the rest of toman, or just ask anyone here they’ll nominate their little boyfriend ran haitani or smth) i could talk about this a lot but TLDR i think it’d be fine if he just went away lol you dont need to have them make up it doesnt make sense

honorable mention! tenjiku arc was fun i liked getting to see the stories of the side cast (esp kawata brothers, mucho, emma)

also. sorry second message, because i thought of something else. i’m personally tied into this reading of the end of the originals because i’ve started my great Legacies ReWrite, but also tomorrow is the last episode of legacies and we can finally put all of this to rest but i’ve been perpetually two episodes behind, but i am going to figure this out ie break down exactly the Differences we have when we approach the end of the originals but it will probably be AFTER i watch the finale (klaus will be there so idc about ANYTHING else, which i think is our main point of difference which is that i am entirely klaus focused, which weirdly IS an outlier, like i don’t really care about elijah at all). anyway, so maybe next week but i think it will be good, for me at least, like we’ll finally be speaking the same language when we talk about the originals.

fwiw i was shocked and appalled when klaus and elijah died and i think that i believed solely in elijah’s death and not klaus’ and it kinda ticks me off that he’s dead still but after some time i don’t believe in any timeline where either of them make it out but not because there’s a story that makes sense for both of them to die.

Hi again love 🥰 so Legacies has now officially ended and of course they had Klaus come back and cry (because of course he did, bless him) and the tvdu has come to an end. (Let’s keep it that way. No prequels, sequels, or spin-offs, you hear me? We can’t all be Star Wars. But why would you want to be Star Wars is another question.)

Anyway. My relationship with the ending of TO is a weird one, because there is so much I don’t like about it, and yet we still got the best case scenario finale. I even use that as a talking point when I try to lure people into the show. (hey, do you like brothers who die in each others’ arms? Somehow I’ve only ensnared one person. 🤔)

I remember very clearly thinking about the ending the day before the finale dropped. There were three possible endings in my mind—Klaus dying, just like the trailer indicated, Elijah dying in his place, or both of them dying.

I figured the second scenario was most likely. The trailers telling us exactly what would happen (Klaus says goodbye then dies) seemed anticlimactic, and we were in 2018, peak Subverting Expectations era.

Now, it was a bit weird that Elijah had offered to take his place in the previous ep and was rejected—you’d think that should be a surprise for the finale, if that’s what they were planning—but I still thought it was the most likely “solution” to the dumb problem they’d set up.

Personally, I hated the idea that one brother would die and the other would live—they’d be eternally separated, and I’m not about that life. That’s why I hoped for the third and most distant possibility: they both die. So I was pleasantly surprised that I actually got the dream ending.

Now, I say “dream ending” but it is very much not that. Given the way the rest of the final season played out, I got the best ending I could have. Since I have no control over anything the writers did, I am simply happy with the cards I was dealt.

If you asked me what my ideal ending for TO would be, I would back the story up at least two seasons and start from there.

You have to understand, my taste has less to do with character arcs and narrative payoff than, like…characters existing together. It’s why I don’t care to examine whether or not Sam Winchester actually wanted to live a normal life after losing Dean. I’ll gladly read discussions in both directions, but the only thing I really care about was that he was reunited with his brother in the end (and the car, how can I forget the car? Sampala endgame…) At the end of it all, I am a woman of shallow tastes.

But considering that the entire show was about Klaus and his “redemption,” it’s counterintuitive for him to die at the end, especially when he’s still been Pretty Awful up to and including this final season. Having him die and Elijah be like “nah you’re good, bro” right before is a pretty weak cap to the show About Klaus’s Redemption.

I don’t see an ending where Klaus dies organically and satisfies the rest of the story. I’m of the opinion that the reasons for killing him were exclusively Doylist.

As for Elijah, his character development took a cliff dive after season 3, where it was already on shaky ground with the Marcel business. Given how they were driving him into the ground, I can’t see an ending where he makes it out alive—not unless we, again, back his character up a few seasons and do some rewrites. (I’m not saying nix the atrocities, because I love murder Elijah. I’m just saying…treat the atrocities with more care.)

I expected TO to do a tvd-esque ending where Elijah sacrifices himself for Klaus because to the unenlightened mind there is no difference between the Salvatores and the Mikaelsons. Not because that’s what I wanted—just, I couldn’t expect anything better. The signs were there: Elijah commits evil and has a Depression about it, Klaus commits evil but has a symbol of hope that things will get better for him.

Typically anyway “has a child” is shorthand for “is/can be a good person” which is like…what they were doing with Klaus the whole time. (Although no matter what, they were planning to send Hope off to boarding school again, so really what does it matter what they do with Klaus.)

Then there’s the weird morality trip the show went on starting in season 3, in which we posit the Mikaelsons Don’t Deserve To Live Because They Are Evil but like…we knew that. We know that. That’s never been what the show is about. It’s always been about these people who can’t be killed, so they can do whatever they want because regardless of whether they deserve it, they’re gonna live forever—but then everything changes because Hope.

Wait where was I going with this?

…this got weird. The short version: I’m not happy with the ending on any level except “otp.” These idiots died in each other’s arms and they can find peace with the other dead people they love. My monkey brain is happy. However, it’s not supported by the narrative unless we look at it from the lens of “spin-off coming to the CW this fall.”
