Hi everyone!! I just wanted to hop onto the main today and make a little post saying thank you to all of our members past and present for being a part of this group and helping us make it to the major milestone of being open for one whole year!! That's right today is Gods and Monsters' 1 year mark of being open! A major, major milestone for any group! As of right now, the group at its 1st birthday is sitting at 20 members and 57 characters! We are seeing whole families get filled out, and tons of wonderful connections between our characters forming, something that at this major milestone could not make me happier!! We also have A LOT of fun things coming everyone's way! Including engagements, weddings, betrayals, more secret romances, and a MAJOR MAJOR plot update that is going to shake up our story! If any of this sounds interesting or fun to you, PLEASE send in an app as soon as possible! We would love to have you and any character you can think of! dance of dragons is taking applications!

below are the key wanted connections from the kingdom of the north, as well as some plot context and ideas applicants could build from. keep an eye out for similar posts about the vale, dorne, the riverlands and the crownlands/occupied stormlands.

THE KINGDOM OF THE NORTH.

open prince and princesses of house stark, two of each role is up for grabs. do they agree with owen’s drastic decisions in shaping the north, such as dismissing the maesters and forcing the night’s watch to bend the knee to him?

open lords and ladies of house bolton, including a position of master of whispers upon the council of king owen stark. in terms of background, these guys have had it rough - domeric was recently revealed as a bastard using the bolton name all along, and their border wars with the manderlys have resulted in house manderly obtaining the title of ‘dukes’ making them a step above the boltons socially. one word? revenge.

open lord karstark of karhold; younger brother of lord brandon karstark. he would have recently dealt with the death of his little sister sarra at the hands of wildlings, as well as returning from an internal war when ironborn pirates and thenns that attempted to take northern land. house karstark has also become dukes.

open lord and lady of house manderly of white harbor: siblings to lord nasir and lady manal manderly. their house has had the social improvement recently, though they are in charge of protecting the faith of the seven in the north. do they agree with nasir’s decision to remain loyal to the starry sept of oldtown, or do they believe tyland lannister has a point in centralising the faith? (note: it is expected this character would have a name of arabic/islamic origin and be a black fc)

open lords and ladies of house mormont of bear isle: their ruling lord rhydian mormont recently died as a result of a wildling attack. they also would have been involved in the war against the ironborn and the thenns. it is a great opportunity to explore a character trying to step into a responsibility they never thought they would have to, admist dealing with grief.

In the land of Gods and Monsters...

The realm has lived in relative peace for 60 years after the War in the North, but not all is what is seems. Many will be tested as a new foe threatens to shake up the seven kingdoms.

In 305 AC, Cersei Lannister yielded to Queen Daenerys Targaryen, who reclaimed her rightful throne and banished the lion queen back to Casterly Rock. Taking Gendry Baratheon as her King Consort, some would say they ruled harmoniously, while others would disagree. Jon Snow went to live with the wildlings, where he died without leaving any heirs, perhaps finding his true place.

The North regained its independence with the agreement of the dragon queen, and thus Sansa Stark, the Queen in the North, ruled the realm for many years. Dorne, with all its unique customs, remained completely independent and isolated. However, things have now changed as the memory of uniting to fight a greater enemy has faded. With the death of the dragon queen, Daenerys Targaryen, tensions have escalated.

Kingdoms that once pledged loyalty to the dragons now crave their own independence or wish to join the Starks, who are determined to maintain their autonomy from the Iron Throne, despite rumors suggesting that the new Targaryen rulers would have a different vision.

Which side will you find yourself on?

CURRENT PLOT:

In the aftermath of Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen's death, Westeros finds itself grappling with the consequences and uncertainties of succession and power. With tensions rising and memories of past rulers resurfacing, a coronation and Treaty of Peace are planned to bring unity between the North and the Iron Throne. However, beneath the surface of celebration, whispers of dissent and treachery circulate among the guests.

As the feast unfolds, a shadow looms, and the true game of politics and power begins. King Rhaegar, charismatic and beloved, meets a sudden demise during a toast, sparking panic and chaos in the Red Keep. The search for the culprit ensues, casting suspicion on the Stark household. Amidst the turmoil, a betrothal between the two kingdoms are announced as a fragile hope to bridge the divide. As the realm holds its breath, the upcoming coronation of King Daeron hangs in the balance, overshadowed by the lingering shadow of betrayal.

In a united effort, the North and the Iron Throne are collaborating to uncover the truth behind King Rhaegar's untimely demise and unravel the motives behind those who oppose peace. The two kingdoms have set aside their differences to pursue justice and delve into the mystery surrounding the tragedy. As they navigate the intricate web of alliances and rivalries, they strive to expose the culprits and shed light on the hidden forces working against their pursuit of harmony. Together, they aim to bring stability to Westeros by uncovering the secrets that threaten to undermine their unity.

Gods & Monsters is a semi-appless RPG with an AU retelling of the events after the end of the Game of Thrones television series and beyond.

What has made this group stay open for so long? (I'd love to hear from muns too) I checked the archive and saw you guys have been running since November 2020, with what looks like no breaks?

truthfully, i think there is a huge variety of reasons. i'l list some of the main ones i personally think, and then our muns could possibly comment their own thoughts too? sorry for the ramble, i wanted to ensure to get my thoughts down carefully!

the general atmosphere of the roleplay. people aren't cliquey, and the admins are more for organisational purpose rather than a 'point of authority.' we've come across far too many roleplays where people forget that. the muns in the group are genuinely very kind and approachable. there are nights where a bunch of muns partiicpate in 'quickfire truth serums' in the discord, quizzing characters ic responses, and even ooc we have jackbox game night where lots of people play by just using their phones.

plot stuff: heads of state genuinely try to make plots for their regions that involve lots of muns, and not only their own. i know as head of state for the reach, i'll often think of something and then delegate it to various other characters. it is rare to have to reject plot ideas. i know all the other heads of state think in that way too.

the activity rules. we only require an ic post at least once a month, but because we have no strict activity rules, it appears the effect is people are very active.

the dash does move daily, especially with a new style of roleplaying a bunch of us are using (essentially doing quickfire conversations between characters in discord dms then copying and pasting to tumblr. here is an example of a spicy one me and jd done, entirely over discord dms.

lore and conseuquences! my god the world actually feels really interactive, people have different beliefs and it actually matters. like right now, the northerners (aside from the manderlys) are not feeling entirely comfortable being in the reach considering the new high septon is definitely a zealot. furthermore, the westerlanders (who have recently broke away from the high septon as the source of authority for faith) are bracing themselves for issues.

in addition to lore, culture! being poc actually means something here, beyond visually. there are cultural and religious practices, loosely inspired by muns own religious beliefs, that make groups of people different. for example, dorne believes in seven reincarnated lives, whilst no other realm does. it is fascinating.
