I know I’m laying in bed and I could literally walk to your bedroom right now but

I had a thought that turned into a concept that I need to share with you before I forget it and I type better than I talk

Other Moustead AU where Mouse is still dealing with the emotional demons that Thelma and Gregory left him with. Logically, he knows that Jay and Will are his family. Jay has been his best friend since Afghanistan and his relationship with Will is taking steps that he’s never taken in relationships before (real dates, staying the night and then staying for breakfast, etc), and everything is going great. But that’s exactly why he panics.

Last time things were going great was when he was 26 and living with his parents. So the idea of Jay as family plays into the trauma he got from Thelma when he came out - conditional love, something he’ll lose eventually and is always careful to tiptoe around so he doesn’t lose it any sooner than he’s already going to. This relationship with Will plays with the trauma that he got from Gregory - watching someone who is publicly in love with his wife and has this perfect family life, but behind closed doors it’s all lies and fighting and infidelity and impossible standards.

And it’s just kind of this… night where Mouse breaks? And he’s internalizing all of his panic because why would he scare off the Halsteads when he can have them and their love for just a few more minutes?

Idk the mental image of Will saying something to Mouse about how Jay still worries about him sometimes (because he cares, not because he expects Mouse to slip up and make a mistake), and Mouse being reassured that real, unconditional love and that deep rooted idea of family really is out there for him, even if he hasn’t necessarily felt it before.

Just Mouse being terrified to be happy because he only knows love that gets taken away as soon as he feels safe in it.

This was a trip to get in the middle of the night by the way, but I do love this image. It's a good one, good job bby. <3
