star trek update time. last night we did the maquis parts 1 & 2 because i simply did not want to deal w tng.

standout moment for me in this entire two-parter was sisko's speech. ESPECIALLY good that in a fit of frustration he delivers it to kira and kira alone, whomst he maybe did shout a little bit at earlier because tensions were so high, and then he has the grace to look embarrassed and say he's glad someone understands. like it was the EXACT same thing she was yelling about earlier and he didn't take her as seriously as he might have, like, not in a delegitimizing way, but in a way that says he hasn't experienced that kind of helpless frustration for himself. and then he got to experience just the tiniest slice of what kira has and he Got It. you know?

ALSO SOOO TRUE THE PROBLEM IS EARTH!!!! it's easy to be a saint when you live in utopia. quark had a similar speech earlier in this series about how humans are friendly and wonderful when they have full bellies and working holosuites and they turn vicious without them. ds9 knows whats up

it's tempting to blame all this on picard but while picard did NOT act with honor the true villain is the nameless faceless politician that decided this would be a good boundary to draw and absolutely no one would have any problems with it. it's weird to me, in the age of constantly calling our government officials to make sure they don't cancel healthcare or tell them to stop bombing people, that no one would try to get to the bottom of this and figure out which person they're supposed to call to tell them it was a dumb idea and demand they change it. like, the border is drawn like this, it's an immutable fact of life and it's not gonna change. it feels so weird

but sisko is ALSO RIGHT because escalating the conflict into full-blown warfare is gonna get even MORE people killed and make things even MORE miserable for the colonies affected, who have already been through more than enough. the colonists can make life harder for the cardassians, just like the bajorans did, but they can't actually win a war, they can only drive themselves into the ground doing it. at BEST they will make some nameless faceless border-drawer think twice the next time they draw a border

like, that's why i'm so shocked nobody suggested calling the politicians to making them redraw it. it's the only third option?!?!

quark and the vulcan was so funny. shoot your shot, buddy, even though you lost the love of your life two episodes ago. i was a little insulted he managed to out-logic her, but also reluctantly impressed. quark is always entertaining, i just wish he had a LITTLE more depth.

gul dukat...i admit i never gave him a second thought before this episode. now i am reaffirmed in my belief that all cardassians are gay. he exhibits such an energy. i really liked the part where he put the fear of god into the weapons runner even though sisko was ready to sit on him to keep him from touching the torpedo controls. such a fun dynamic for him to be going "murder? :D?" and for sisko to be playing straight man and yanking him down by the scruff of his neck every 5 minutes. fun fun fun. i do think he should have kept his mouth shut when he and kira were in the same room though. like i think he should have just chosen to not speak unless prompted.

i like how twice odo's ability to maintain security at the station was called into question and both times sisko was like oh absolutely not. and even still, the tension was nearly enough to cause in-fighting in what has become a pretty friendly group. it's both surprising and unsurprising how quickly they drew the battle lines, but even the non-federation people, kira and odo, snapped at each other. LITERALLY CALL THE POLITICIANS. EARTH IS THE PROBLEM

my one real nitpick is that i don't think it should be possible to resist a mind meld with "discipline." like, it's more interesting if cardassians have a special immunity, or if this particular vulcan is bad at it. i just don't buy that gul dukat happens to be that cool, it's too convenient. why bring up the mind meld at all in that case

otherwise 10/10 i had a fantastic time

The next day, Cheetah aged up into an adult cat! That was quick!

The family took advantage of the last bit of Autumn warmth and spent most of the day in their pool playing Timla Tourneau.

Then, when Elliott went inside to shower and change for dinner, Monique and Jennifer hopped into the hot tub for some adult fun. They've been all over each other this round - I don't have ACR; they just keep rolling Woohoo wants!

And the round came to an end that night as the season changed. Just for fun, have a posed family picture for the first time ever! I think from Round 9 there are some photos around the houses as well!

Anyway, lots of progress this round! Monique's business reached Rank 5 so she will join the Business career at the start of next round and start working on her LTW. Jennifer reached the top of her career and unlocked the ability to finance a connection to Downtown. If and when the town has another §100k handy, we'll fund that so that we can finally visit hobby lots and open businesses selling things that haven't been handmade.

We also added another community lot, which unlocks one more CAS point bringing our total up to 7. I need to add another family soon!

Jen is now 54, Monique is 44 and Elliott is 10.

Ending 2023 with "The Color Purple"

No matter how bleak life seems, there's always hope for better times.

The new musical movie adaptation of The Color Purple reminds us of this, so maybe it's fitting that it was the movie that I wound up ending the year with.

Let's get this out of the way: it is NOT a remake. It's a movie adaptation out of the Broadway musical that was indeed made out of the movie, no different from Hairspray and the upcoming Mean Girls. Do not dismiss it as a cash grab when director Blitz Bazawule clearly puts his heart and soul into this film, and so did the cast.

Although in fairness, it is hard not to compare it to the original 1985 movie when it had such brilliant work from the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah, and Danny Glover. The fact that it lost out on the Oscars remains a travesty to this day that I neither forgive nor forget.

Yet this cast is just as spectacular. Fantasia Barrino's Celie more than lives up to Whoopi Goldberg's legacy while making the role her own. Her emotionally charged performance reminds us all why she won American Idol, and while she hasn't had the best of luck since then, I hope this film helps turn that luck around.

Taraji P Henson wows as Shug Avery, Celie's lover -- and yes, this version makes it crystal clear that they ARE lovers while the original movie just alluded it to it. I have to admit, part of me would have liked it if Jennifer Hudson reprised her Broadway role just so that we could have seen her and fellow American Idol alumni Barrino play a couple, but oh well. Danielle Brooks fearlessly takes on Sofia -- the role Oprah originated, and she couldn't have done a better job.

A special shout out goes to Halle Bailey, who plays Celie's sister Nettie (the teenage version, anyway) and proves that her Little Mermaid was no fluke. I can't wait for more from her.

Despite the horrific and heartbreaking events Celie and other characters goes through, the movie manages to be a pretty uplifting musical, with vibrant visuals and songs. It pulls this off in a way that feels genuine without being corny.

My only problem with the movie concerns the resolution between Celie and her abusive husband Albert (Coleman Domingo). For those that never read the novel or saw the Broadway musical, Celie winds up becoming friends with her abusive ex-husband. With all due respect to Alice Walker, I just can't get behind that. Not after everything he did to her. I preferred how the 1985 version ended it: with Danny Glover's Albert discretely doing right by Celie and nobody except Shug knowing. That, I felt, was believable: it didn't make up for everything he did to her, and he didn't expect it to. True redemption is doing the right thing without getting anything out of it.

But that's my opinion.

All that aside, The Color Purple deserves all the awards and acclaim that original deserved and never got. Your move, Oscars.

Making you hear about my spiderverse ship kid because i love her actually she’s a punknoir kid (spider noir and hobie (and BEFORE i hear a WORD about any of it they’re both 19-20, Noir’s just voiced by Nick Cage and has a deep voice, that’s IT!! This is a young kid punching fascists!!)) and her name is Jennifer solely because of a Eurythmics song named Jennifer that describes a girl in a purple dress (this is all about the purple) named Jennifer. She does the colour changing with emotions thing that Hobie does, but her’s have very minute shade differences, and with her colour changing comes music. Only have two figured out but an olive army green means she’s kinda pissed off, probably a little injured, and not having it, and when she’s that colour she’s also followed around by Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz. Purple for her is her colour of pure love, not pink, and a deep royal purple is like her feeling her purest form of love and care and adoration, and with it comes Golden Slumber/Carry That Weight by Jennifer Hudson (the Sing version because it fucking slaps) and yeah Jenny is a bitch who smokes and if you’re a friend you’ve only got to point at someone for her to go kick their asses for you (her morals are a bit not spidery) and like she got bit by a spider covered in paint that crawled out of a radio ig sjdhjs anyway i love Jenny

You've probably heard this by now but DWTS has been postponed or at least announced postponement plans in place. Which I think means the show has been postponed they just haven't officially announced it yet (I really don't know and I'm confused) anyway regardless Matt Walsh has 'taken a pause from the show' he also said that he was under the impression that the show was not a WGA show and that it fell under a different agreement which is believable because I think a lot of people have been under that impression. So his 'pause' according to Kristyn Burtt means the show can't move forward.

I hate to say it but I'm not surprised. After Drew Barrymore got backlash for planning to return and then she decided to not return, along with Jennifer Hudson and The Talk not returning I was kinda waiting for DWTS to announce the same

ideal sonic voice cast

(disclaimer: i have not seen prime so i will not be considering those voices)

sonic: this is the only one i really have to think about for an extended period of time. it really comes down to how you write the character. sonic is pretty flexible outside of some core traits. i like max mittelman and i also like ryan drummond. jason griffith eventually became great imo but i would probably not ask for him back (not as sonic, anyway...)

tails: colleen o'shaughnessy. every tails voice actor has improved on the last imo, colleen is great

knuckles: dan green. i get the scott drier love but he plays knux a bit too flatly for my tastes. dan green is quintessential knuckles to me. travis willingham was always perfectly fine though not quite to dan green's standard for me, and while i do really respect dave b. mitchell's attempt i just don't think he sounds quite right. he'd be a good pick for boom knuckles though... they really need to merge the boom stuff that worked into the mainline series

shadow: jason griffith. again, respect to david humphrey, but he's not for me. my issue is that his line reads just sound kinda weird a lot of the time? he has a pretty good shadow voice, but jason's always been pretty great as shadow even back in ShTH. kirk thornton is... fine, but you can tell he's an older guy and he speaks a little slowly for my liking. (though if we're fancasting, mr. chongoblog doesn't do too bad a job either... 😳)

rouge: kathleen delaney, hands down. lani manella was alright but i feel like her rouge voice is a bit basic? karen strassman just sounds awful, I'm sorry. she's the embodiment of post-Gens rouge where they made her sex appeal her only trait and cut out everything else. and that's basically the voice strassman does. if they restored her character in future titles she would not be a good pick.

omega: i have no idea? i feel like almost anyone could do a good omega voice given good direction and a proper voice filter. even maddie blaustien's 06 performance sounds pretty good after being sped up and filtered like in p-06. john st. john is my favorite but i could go with anyone here

amy: i like the performances of jennifer duliard and lisa ortiz in the games about equal. lisa ortiz seems to have lost the voice however? she came back for sonic and tails r and she sounds pretty different in that, in a worse way. cindy robinson is another miscast like roger craig smith, though a good pick for boom amy. modern amy has very little character because i guess they figured the sonic crush wouldn't go over well these days?

cream: 🤷‍♀️

big: please can we get john st john back 😭 whoever voices him in frontiers just does not do a good job

eggman: i love mike pollock just as much as the rest of you but... god, i miss deem bristow. that dude had RANGE. and i LOVE his eggman performances. they're so good. he sounds so threatening in one breath and maniacal in the next, i love it. eggman doesn't really have that kind of writing lately which isn't a problem but it is something i miss

silver: pete capella. quinton flynn sounds perfectly okay, though a bit softer which i don't feel really fits silver. whoever the current voice is, bryce... something? i've heard clips of him and i REALLY do not like those. capella is peak silver imo.

blaze: bella hudson. her modern actress doesn't sound quite right

That movie has a great soundtrack and I’ve been so excited to see who they would cast as the muses.// it should be destiny’s child, Lizzo or Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson. My friends and I have debated about this for years if there was ever a live action. The only other option is Kirk franklin’s choir.

I feel like the muses casting is going to be key. More so that the other roles 😂 The songs are already so good and I hope they pick people who can do it justice. Beyoncé, Lizzo, Amber Riley, Jennifer Hudson, any of the Braxton sisters, Alicia Keys, Hailey Kilgore, Anika Noni Rose, Mary J. Blige. Honestly there’s so many good options out there for these casting directors to chose from! Wouldn’t it be fun to see Janet Jackson show up? And ughhhh I wish Whitney Houston was still alive 😩 anyway, I could go on and on. They better not mess this up because I feel like expectations aren’t high! 🦎

Briana DeJesus is Bummed Because She No Longer Has a Boo

Briana DeJesus is going through it, guys…in her car…while admittedly wearing a shirt she stole from her kid.

The ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ star took to TikTok this week to vent about the fact that she is currently without a man, following her recent breakup.

“I’m literally going through the worst— I wouldn’t say the worst heartbreak— but close to it,” Briana revealed in her TikTok video.

“Why is life so hard– for me,” she asked followers while sitting in her car and tearing up. “I don’t even want to say that because I sound so selfish, because I’m f**king blessed. There’s a lot of things I have that other people don’t have … .”

One of the things Briana doesn’t have, however, is a boyfriend, and the mom of two isn’t happy about it. Briana told fans this week that the last year has been “so hard” for her and emotionally, she is “not well.”

“Breakups are hard,” she stated. “I think for me the hardest part is like, I’m about to be 30 years old and I have everything I ever wanted, except for a partner. And that’s like, the one thing that I want. Like, I would trade everything else for like, my person, my partner.”

While Briana was tweeting about a mystery man earlier this year, she revealed on social media February 8 that the short-lived relationship had come to an end.

“My heart broke into a million pieces and I just have to pick them all up and try to put it back together,” she wrote.

Briana, whose dating history includes men who have worked in front of AND behind the camera on ‘Teen Mom,’ also assured fans that her soulmate isn’t her baby daddy–- or at least not the first one, anyway.

“I really think you and Devoin [Austin] are meant to be 2gether but ur too scared to let him all the way in so ur looking elsewhere,” one person commented on Briana’s TikTok. “It will all workout!”

“No ma’am we are not meant to be lol,” Briana replied.

Chelsea Houska Reflects on Her Time on ‘Teen Mom 2’; Says It “Doesn’t Even Feel Like That Was My Life”

It’s been over three years since Chelsea jumped ship from the sinking vessel that is the ‘Teen Mom’ franchise, but it appears that the former ‘Teen Mom 2’ star has made amends with that period of her life. Chelsea even reflected back on it with gratitude during a recent interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Jennifer asked Chelsea about her time on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ and Chelsea responded that the person people saw on the MTV show is very different from who she is today. (Chelsea and her husband Cole DeBoer were on Jennifer Hudson’s talk show recently to promote the second season of their HGTV show Down Home Fab.)

“I feel like it’s so interesting. When I look back, it doesn’t even feel like that was my life,” Chelsea said of her ‘Teen Mom’ days. “I don’t know; it just feels like it was forever ago.”

“But, truly, I’m able to look back and just be so appreciative to watch the journey. It’s very rare that you’re able to revisit all the things that made you who you are,” Chelsea said. “I think it just helps me appreciate where I am now, and everything that I’ve gone through.

“So I feel like it’s cool.”

“You made it cool, that’s why,” Jennifer told Chelsea.

Last year, in an interview with The Ashley, Chelsea made it clear that she has put her ‘Teen Mom’ days far behind her, stating that she and Cole are unlikely to return to the MTV franchise—not even for a guest appearance.

“I feel like that chapter to me is sohard closed that I don’t think I would even want to open up that door, even the smallest bit at this point,”Chelsea told The Ashley. “Not that there’s bad feelings, I just feel like I’ve moved on past that.

“…It’s just something that is over,” Chelsea added, stating that she isn’t even open to making a one-off appearance on one of the franchise’s current shows.

“That is something we just closed and moved on from. There was nothing bad, it was just time to move on,” Cole said.

Leah Messer Finally Gets a Job As a Real Estate Agent

Leah’s road to becoming a real estate agent has been bumpy, but the West Virginia native proudly announced on Instagram on Wednesday that she has been officially hired by a real estate firm and is now selling houses.

Leah— who passed her real estate agent exams back in September and was hired but quickly fired by an agency a month later— is now a realtor with eXP Realty. She also launched her new website, which featured a giant, hologram-looking photo of Leah, next to an intro about the mom of three.

“Leah Messer, a television personality, real estate professional, and author born and raised in West Virginia,” the site’s homepage reads. “Millions watched her navigate motherhood at a young age and overcome the trials she faced on the MTV series, 16 and Pregnant and ‘Teen Mom 2.’

On the “real estate” section of her website, Leah explains why you should hire her for all your house sellin’ and buyin’ needs.

“Hi! I am Leah Messer,” Leah’s personal message on her site states. “Bringing 14 years of experience in media and relationship building into my new venture as a trusted REALTOR | Salesperson. I’m best known for sharing my story on television and my memoir Hope, Grace & Faith. My passion extends way beyond entertainment! – I’m an advocate for special needs children and their parents as well as an inspiration to young girls and women around the world.

“I am dedicated to channeling that commitment into my real estate career. My goal as a trusted REALTOR is to serve communities with unwavering integrity and respect,” she continued. “While striving for excellence in both my career and family life, I find fulfillment in the balance of career ambition and motherhood. I look forward to learning more about you and fulfilling all of your real estate needs.”

Leah already has a variety of homes she’s listed as the seller on.

As The Ashley previously reported, Leah took to Instagram in October to reveal that her previous sponsoring agency had unceremoniously dropped her, just weeks after they hired her. (West Virginia law states that a real estate salesperson must work under a sponsoring broker. Leah was unable to work as a salesperson until she found a broker to sponsor her.)

“I wasn’t prepared when I walked into my current sponsoring broker’s office a couple of weeks ago that I would be told that because of unforeseen circumstances, it wouldn’t be a great fit for me at their company,” Leah wrote on Instagram Stories at the time. “So I redirected and started this interview journey with new potential sponsoring brokers.”

Leah isn’t the only ‘Teen Mom’ star to get into real estate. Her ‘Next Chapter’ co-star, Jade Cline, recently began selling real estate in Indiana.
