antigone makes me go feral for very specific reasons such as:

loyalty to the dead, to the past, your beloved brothers are dead, your mother killed herself and your brother-father is blind and mad. There is truly no ground to grow a brother in for there is no fertile place, they’re barren and dead, cursed beyond measure and soon you will follow them

ismene rejects you, she is fearful and rightfully so, she can escape the curse, you see that now, it takes six it leaves one, there is an escape. she shows up at the last minute, it’s such joy to see her come for you, it is terror to see her come for you. your sister must live for there is no ground to grown another one of her either

your uncle is righteous, childish, he divides the worlds into heroes and villains, raises those he loves and casts down those he does not. he’s petty and mad and fears no god despite the stories. his son is in love with you and you take him to the grave with you in turn. your uncle cannot raise those he loves, he casts down everything for his foolishness.

the gods frighten you and give you solace, ‘but they agree with me’ and they let you die. zeus is your tormentor, the dead and those below your killer, your faith salvation. t

there are your people. those you should be queen of, the turn their backs on you without a second thought, blinded by reason instead of faith. the seer is the only one who knows how this will end besides you

caesar being so normal about brutus

#chapman's caesar and pompey #spam tag #*cordelia voice* i shall never marry to love my father whole *stabs him* #the handel-chapman concurrence was too sharp and now this play occupies a part of my brain #and also the surena posting made me think about caesar's clementia with regard to like. poisonous gifts of sorts #the second moment reminds me of a very specific hbo rome shot where caesar's looking at brutus accepting his offer of peace post-pharsalus #and there's a real saturn devouring his son vibe to me. which is funny given that brutus is the one to get the saturn ref in the show #brutus in this play is a little fascinating to be honest. there's something about his tone i just can't place #also in another play of chapman his name is mentioned alongside antigone's. sadly i don't intend to read it but ey! #OKAY going to bed now otherwise i'm going to try and reread the play
